For Birth Control "I'm 19 years old, 105 lbs, and I've never been pregnant. I had Skyla inserted about 4 days ago, and so far, it's absolutely amazing and worth it. I was looking for a birth control that was long-term, easily reversible, effective, and something that I didn't have to worry about every single day. After lots of research, an IUD fit all of the requirements. My doctor recommended Skyla because it was a smaller IUD with hormones. The insertion was kind of painful and uncomfortable, but not anything that I couldn't handle. The pain just felt like intense menstrual cramps. The symptoms I experienced after were mild cramping a few hours after insertion, light bleeding for about a day, and nausea a couple of days later. Overall, I am so glad I chose Skyla!"

For Birth Control "I had Skyla inserted 2 weeks ago. I had been on the pill on and off for 16 years and hated it. It was making me nauseous, depressed, and anxious. My gyno recommended the IUD. I've had no kids and have a small cervix. As everyone has mentioned, insertion is painful but short. I took 2 aspirin and a relaxant beforehand, and it still really hurt. Probably the worst part of recovery for me is that I've been spotting and on and off cramping for 2 weeks now. However, I haven't spotted in 2 days, so I'm hoping that's the end of it. Besides that, I am very happy with it -- I don't feel any changes in mood, appetite (if anything, appetite is less), sex drive, and no nausea! I would say give yourself 4-5 days to heal (I didn't and regret it)."

For Birth Control "I am 23 years old with no children. I originally had the Skyla IUD inserted in October 2013. The insertion was not the worst part for me, like many other reviews are stating, having my uterus measured was horrible, especially when the measuring device reaches the walls of your uterus, it is instant horrible cramps. After the insertion, I had to sit in the lobby and wait for an ultrasound. It hurt to sit, I was sweating horribly and nauseous. Eventually, the cramping stopped, but I was left with very abnormal periods. Second time, October 2017. The pain was still just as bad, but not as much cramping, so that's a plus. I have somewhat noticed a lower sex drive and horrible mood swings, my fiancé can feel the strings sometimes during intercourse, also, sex has become very painful for me. Around November, I started getting very sharp abdominal pain, nausea, lower back pain, and couldn't go #2. I've seen my gyno a week ago, an ultrasound revealed ovarian cysts caused by Skyla, so I may have Skyla removed."

For Birth Control "I had the Skyla put in four months ago. My OB said it went in perfectly, shook my hand, and left the room. The nurse who was in the room noticed all the color drained from my face. Immediately, I felt nauseous, dizzy, and had to have the nurses walk me to the bathroom where I got diarrhea. I was so sick my mother had to come get me. The doctor asked me if I wanted him to take it out. At that point, I didn't want him to touch me again. Getting home, the cramping had me doubled over in pain. After a month, my OB looked at it. Said it was fine. The cramping continued randomly. I had pain and pressure in my vagina. After four months, I got it taken out, and immediately the cramping went away."

For Birth Control "I have now had my Skyla for over a month. I was on the pill before and had to switch due to migraines caused by too much estrogen. Insertion wasn't bad - if anything, just a little cramp added to your normal pelvic exam. After insertion, I was very dizzy and super nauseous. I laid there for about 25 minutes feeling sick and having terrible cramping. Soon after, I was fine! Mild cramping for the first few days and then for the next week (lessened over time). I bled for about three weeks after insertion - different every day. Sometimes more than others. Just had my first cycle while on Skyla. Very light, but lasting about 7 days. I had a few breakouts but may be stress-related too. Feeling great so far!"

For Birth Control "I got Skyla inserted two years ago. I still had periods on Skyla, but they were much heavier, and I had awful cramps. Skyla also caused me to have terrible acne. It wasn’t until recently that I started to have more issues. My periods began lasting more than a week and a half and were only two weeks apart. I’ve been suffering from headaches daily, no energy, dizziness, and nausea. I just don’t feel like myself. I called my doctor, and he seemed to think removing Skyla would solve the problems. I went this morning to have it removed (which is pain-free!!!), so hopefully things will get better!"

For Birth Control "I'm typing this in TEARS! I developed endometriosis after this birth control. When this BC was placed, I started having cramps like contractions. The pain was so bad I would vomit. I kept going to the doctor, and they would tell me it was normal. I DEMANDED they do an ultrasound, and they did and found a cyst on my left ovary they needed to remove. This was nearly 2 years ago, and I still feel pain on that side... unusual pain, not the dull pain or the sharp pain, but it's very unusual. I even had a miscarriage. I didn’t want this, but at the time I was living with my mom, I ended up having to be on it. Idk what's going on in my body because I haven’t been to the doctor... doctors don't help! They make everything worse. I’ve been trying to take pills to get rid of the extra estrogen in my body. I still suffer from cramps, but they’re not as bad as they were. I just want to be normal again. Don't get this if you care about your reproductive health. I’m 24 with no kids and suffering!"

For Birth Control "So I just got my Skyla in today. I'm not one for heavy periods usually, nor do I ever get cramps. I tolerate pain quite well. I had my Pap before the insertion, and that was its usual pain, but I will say the cramping from 'the pinch' killed me. It hurt pretty bad, but as soon as she was done, it wasn't as bad, but I could not get up for quite some time. When I did, I was dizzy and went to the bathroom and threw up. It took about 3 hours for me not to be in excruciating pain due to cramps, but like I said, I'm not used to them at all. Feeling better now, and hopefully this thing works out. I've looked up a lot about it and see very few negative comments."

For Birth Control "I got the Skyla inserted a week ago, and it was pretty rough. The actual process of getting it in did not bother me, but after I had awful cramps, felt nauseous and lightheaded. The cramps have not gone away but have lightened a little bit. The doctor said I was feeling pain because I have a 'sensitive uterus' and have never had kids. Haven't bled at all though, which is nice."

For Birth Control "I went to the doctor's 5 days ago. I did it to feel in control of my body. My receptionist told me to take Tylenol before the procedure. Okay, sure. It didn't do anything. I was truly ignorant about the pain I was about to experience. When I told her I took children's Tylenol, she gave me that look of 'you're gonna have a bad time.' I took 8 pills of the low dosage aspirin in hopes I would be numb enough to feel only a pinch. Nope. WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. When she was inserting the IUD, the cramps were absolutely awful. I was literally screaming in pain. After she finished, my body was trembling. I almost passed out twice, threw up twice, and had the meanest poops. I had to lay on a bed for an hour before I could even move."

For Birth Control "Having the Skyla inserted was one of the worst pains I have felt. For about an hour after, I was super nauseated and faint. I would definitely recommend taking painkillers before. I have now had it in for a little over a year, and I love it, however, I have struggled with my weight this whole time. I have gained about 8 lbs. I am a person who constantly works out and eats pretty healthy most of the time. Because of this, I am thinking of getting it removed and getting the copper IUD. I also have pretty bad bloating, however, my periods are great and light."

For Birth Control "I've had Skyla for almost 3 months now. The first month was bad, with pain and cramping, constipation and diarrhea alternating, and constant nausea and fatigue. The second month, my period barely showed up, but I was stuck with all the cramping and spotting randomly. My sleeping has gotten much worse. I've been on Ambien and Lunesta and Doxepin, nothing really keeps me asleep. I find that when anything goes wrong, I slip into a prolonged depressive state that includes me being on the verge of tears all day, every day. The cystic acne comes at all times of the month. I'm getting this thing taken out. Not worth it."

For Birth Control "I got Skyla about two weeks ago. I read reviews the night before and was horrified but prepared. The insertion was horribly painful! I had horrible cramps, sick to my stomach, and dizzy for a few hours after. The pill was making me sick and emotional, but not so far with Skyla. The only negative things I experience now from Skyla are horrible random cramps daily, and I've been spotting ever since. But I'm not pregnant, still, that's a plus."

For Birth Control "I just got my Skyla in. Now I'm a 15-year-old girl. It hurt getting put in. But the side effects of constant nausea and cramping are the worst. But my mom said it'll get better, just give it time. I need tips for how to get rid of the cramping because I'm having trouble sleeping now, and nothing is working."

For Birth Control "'I am 20, with no kids, and have never been pregnant before. I was on birth control pills for 4 years before deciding on trying something stronger, plus I couldn't remember to take it daily. I had Skyla inserted on Oct 16, so I am on day 4. I'm not going to lie, having it inserted hurt. It was a combination of uncomfortable mixed with pain. Day 1, I had horrible cramps all day and some nausea. Day 2, I felt amazing, no cramps, no sickness, nothing. Day 3, I found the lovely side effect of extreme emotion. I was a roller coaster of emotion all day with some random cramps throughout the day. Day 4, I have had some cramps off and on, but the emotions are in check today. So far, so good, no major complaints, except hoping the cramps and spotting subside soon."

For Birth Control "I am 27 years old, average height and weight, never had kids, and have been taking the pill for about 10 years. After talking with my doctor, she decided Skyla was right for me. The insertion was pretty painful. I have a decent tolerance for pain. I think I hurt more after than during. It's like really, REALLY bad period cramps. And they are intense and last about an hour. I took two 500 mg Tylenol extra strength before, and that did not help at all. Once the IUD was inserted, I got weak all over and felt like I could throw up. I drove myself home very carefully (at times wanted to pass out) and took four 200 mg ibuprofen and took about an hour-long nap. Once I woke up, I felt like a million bucks. Not sure of how it will affect me and my body yet."

For Birth Control "I have taken birth control for 5 years now, and I have tried everything. The pill (horrible experience for me, my body just doesn't like it... always super sick, puking), which I took for 2 years, then the Depo, the NuvaRing, etc. I figured I wanted to try the IUD. My doctor and I discussed Skyla would be best because of its size (I'm super tiny and petite). The procedure was not the best. I took a uterus dilator medication 6 hours prior, took 800 mg of ibuprofen, and ate breakfast before I went. It felt like a super sharp pain, I was almost in tears. However, it goes quick, and the pain turns into small period cramps. After a week, I noticed a difference in my body. No nausea, no dizziness. Only symptom is occasional cramp and spotting."

For Birth Control "Very painful procedure, took days to feel okay to move around properly without pain (have not had children prior). Effective birth control. Periods were lighter/barely there after 2 months. Cramping was terrible, nausea, and sharp pains throughout the 3 years during regular cycle. Removal was the worst pain I’ve experienced."

For Birth Control "I had Skyla inserted about 8 hours ago. After reading other reviews, I did not want to scare myself or go off of what other people said. It was probably the most painful thing I've ever experienced 'down there' but I also have not had any children yet (which I know would hurt worse). I am still cramping very badly. Immediately after insertion, I had severe cramps, felt nauseous, and lightheaded. I did not take any medication before insertion, I've read that taking Tylenol helped but did not have a chance to take it. I took some a couple of hours ago and have laid down, but still am not getting relief. On the bright side, I will not have to worry about birth control methods for 3 years :)"

For Birth Control "So, I was really excited about getting birth control because I wanted to wait until my next pregnancy. I got Skyla in June 2015. The insertion wasn't bad, but the side effects were. First, I got a really bad pelvic infection caused by Skyla. I was bleeding for a month straight with harsh cramps. Sex has been very uncomfortable and also decreased my sex drive. I get horrible cramps even if I'm not on my period, the pain makes me really nauseous. I also experienced weight gain. I get a normal 3-4 day period still. It's been a year and a half, and I'm tired of this birth control. The only good thing is that I haven't gotten pregnant for these past 2 years."
