For Emergency Contraception "Dear ladies, it's my turn to report on my experience as this page kept me sane. Firstly - NO protection, NO connection!!! Secondly - Don't wait on a man to get you Plan B. Do it yourself ASAP. I had UPS with a pub guy, yes due to alcohol making it easy. Sex on 5th May, fully came inside me and had no shame to admit it. The next day I took it upon myself to get the pill and take it within less than 24 hours. I began reading and got freaked out because of the weight limit. I am 38 years old, obese as in 120 kg. Before the 72 hours, I purchased a 2nd Plan B just in case of my weight not making it work. Symptoms weren't too bad for me, just weird stomach cramps. 1 week later, spotting for 3-4 days. At some point, I had bad lower back and pelvic pain. The stress was all too real the closer you get to your period date. I read it all and naturally you do but shouldn't. TODAY I am happy to see real blood and it's 5 days past my period date of last month. I don't recommend the ordeal for the stress but I do recommend Plan B!"

For Birth Control "I love my IUD for many reasons. A lot of these reviews are just based off of the initial side effects and insertion. While I admit it was mildly painful for the first 24 hours and the spotting lasted 1-2 months, I am now 3 years in, and couldn't be happier. My period is 95% lighter and lasts only an hour, I never get cramps anymore, and I am comforted by the fact that it is so reliable! No weight gain or mood changes, and my skin is still clear. Some people say these cause infertility, but that is not true. IUDs have undergone many, many clinical studies which show that is not the case! Don't let people on here scare you :) If you want the facts, go to a credible source."

For Birth Control "It was the most pain I have ever felt when I got it put in. I just laid on the table after the insertion because I wasn't sure if I was going to pass out or not. I bled for 4 months straight after getting it put in. I feel like I woke up one day and gained 20 lbs. I am an active person and stay on a healthy diet, but it didn't matter because I still gained weight. I just feel bloated ALL THE TIME. I also got put on prescription acne medicine because I break out around my mouth constantly. My periods are super irregular. Sometimes I don't have a period for a couple of months and then I have a period twice a month. I will say that my periods are significantly lighter! The cramping is one of the main reasons I am going to get it taken out because they are AWFUL. I know that the IUD works for some people, it just did not work for me. The only good thing about it is not having to worry about getting pregnant, but I don't think it is worth it."

For Birth Control "I got the IUD put in on 01/24/2020 and had little to no bleeding. I had a lot of cramping and pain. My OBGYN, whom placed it, checked it and ensured its placement. The whole time, I had uncomfortable pain and cramping to the point of tears. On 02/08/2020, my boyfriend finally took me to get checked at the urgent care. They stated that I had PID and BV due to getting my IUD. I was put on two antibiotics and further tests were put on order. After taking the meds for one week, I still had pain and cramping at the same level when I first got it. However, I had developed a fever and nausea. The urgent care doctor told me to go to the ER. At the ER, they could not find my IUD imaging. They told me to follow up with my OBGYN, and I still had PID and BV. I went to see my OBGYN the next day to find my IUD still inside me. When pulled out, it had bacterial growth on it. Right after being taken out, I felt better, and the cramping stopped. Please do not put this in your body!!!"

For Birth Control "I had the Kyleena IUD inserted nearly 7 months ago. The insertion process was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I nearly passed out and threw up. Thankfully, it has done the bare minimum of preventing pregnancy (thus far). Other than that, the only other pro is not having to remember to take the pill daily and the added stress that comes along with that. As for the pain... I don't know where to start. Absolutely unbearable. I double over in pain for the first few days of my period every month. Oftentimes it is so painful that I get nauseous and lightheaded. I have seen a decrease in my flow, but I would say double or triple the amount of pain (cramps) I had prior to the IUD. I don't typically have super acne-prone skin. I haven't seen an increase or decrease in this. My boobs have shrunk from a D to a B cup and I have lost about 20 lbs. I get constant yeast infections... haven't seen much written about this. Does anyone else know anything about this? Overall, do not recommend."

For Birth Control "I believe myself to be very pain tolerant. I got one of these inserted, and it caused me so much pain I nearly passed out. Keep in mind, however, that I have never been pregnant before. If you have not been pregnant, your uterus does not have as much elasticity. Also, my uterus was set back in a position that made for a difficult time for my gynecologist to get to it. (This happens when you have not been pregnant sometimes.) The nurse said she had never seen the gynecologist actually have to utilize the ultrasound to insert it. One day after insertion, and now I am completely cramp-free. Don't let the horror stories scare you. The ease of use, cost (completely free), and effectiveness of this product are phenomenal."

For Emergency Contraception "I had unprotected sex and immediately looked on my period tracker app to see when I was ovulating. It happened to be that day. I panicked and went out the very next morning and took Plan B. Right after I took it, I had side pain on my left side and lower back pain along with feeling very tired. After that, the waiting began. I took two pregnancy tests because my boobs were starting to feel sore. Both were negative. I have stressed like crazy and started my period today. A day earlier than what I was supposed to start! Plan B works, don't read the bad reviews, they will just cause more anxiety. Keep calm and wait."

For Birth Control "I highly recommend not getting this IUD, as I have had an incredibly horrible experience. I took 2 Advil prior to the insertion, and the pain was bearable. I bled for about a month straight after, which is what I expected. Exactly one month after getting my IUD was when everything went downhill. One month in, I developed severe anxiety and depression. I couldn’t go a day without having an anxiety or panic attack. It got so bad to the point that I couldn’t drive my car or go out to eat. Not only was I struggling with anxiety, but I didn’t feel myself. I had horrible brain fog and felt mentally off. I am convinced that my IUD caused this. I got it removed about 2 months ago after having it in for only 4 months. I am finally starting to feel more and more like myself. Please, please do your research before getting this put in your body."

For Birth Control "Had it for years and love it. Changed it out after not having a period for years, and boy it was painful. My first Mirena was nearly painless - just a little tuck. This time it stabbed me hard a few times (quite painful), but each time it was over in seconds. I had menstrual cramps for an hour, and that was it. I didn't even get my bleeding back (just a little right afterwards). Yeah! My advice: if you choose the Mirena, be patient - the first year I constantly bled off and on, but then my period disappeared. Find a doctor who has done this a lot - I believe experience is the key! Also - have it done when your cervix is dilated during your period. I took Misoprostol for that the night before, but that did not help."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've had Mirena since April of 2016. I will finally be getting it removed next week. Benefits: *I haven't gotten pregnant in 3 and a half years on my Mirena. Consequences: *I bled for 11 months after having it inserted. *I gained back 60 pounds that I had worked two years to lose. *Lifestyle/diet changes, intense exercising with a class, and drinking only water for over a year has helped me to lose 2 of those 60+ pounds. *I have extremely irregular periods now. Sometimes 2 in one month (lasting 1-2 full weeks), and sometimes no period for 6-10 weeks at a time. *For two years, I have dealt with fairly constant/daily 'cramps' and pain I used to associate with PMS. *For a year now, I have dealt with breast tenderness and pain. *For the last six months, when I lay on my stomach, it feels like I am being stabbed just below my abdomen. My OBGYN says every single one of my symptoms is normal. I am miserable."

For Birth Control "I received Skyla 24 hours ago. I was super anxious about the pain because of how badly my experience was with the Copper IUD. I must tell you, DO NOT read dozens of reviews and allow them to implant fear into you. We are women, we are designed to withstand pain. You CAN do it! It's literally 30 seconds of OH CRAP, then done. I'm not downplaying anyone else's experience by any means. However, if you go in strong-minded and you are sure it's what you want, you will be fine. I do recommend taking Tylenol at least 20 minutes before insertion (it will help). B.C. pills were terrible on my mind and body, so I'm glad I chose to go back to the IUD. Remember, if you don't end up liking it, it can always be removed. You got this!"

For Birth Control "This amazing device has well and truly changed my life. I used to suffer from extremely heavy periods with cramps and sickness that meant I had to take a minimum of half a day off work a month. I now barely have periods and no longer have to plan my life around those few days each month. I have only given it a 9 because it was pretty painful to insert, otherwise, I would have definitely given it a 10."

For Birth Control "Today is day 3 after IUD insertion. So far - LOVING IT. Day of insertion: did not take any pain medication before the appointment, had a light meal and lots of water. The appointment was fast and smooth, and the worst of the pain was about an 8/10. But it only lasted for about 10 seconds. Afterward, I had a little bit of spotting, nothing a panty liner couldn’t handle. About 2 hours later, I had a bit heavier spotting, but still, the panty liner did the trick. At that 2 hours post-procedure mark, I had a bit of cramping. It was like my regular period cramps that ceased with a naproxen. Day 2: no cramping whatsoever, a little bit of light brown spotting. Loving it. Day 3: no cramping or spotting at all! So glad I made the decision to get the Kyleena - and very glad I didn’t let all the scary reviews stop me from testing it out. To the people with Kyleena that have had good experiences - SHARE YOUR STORY."

For Birth Control "I have had Kyleena for 6 months now. At first, I thought it was great aside from the terrible pain at insertion. The pain was breathtaking, and I thought I might faint. The severe pain lasted a few minutes, with minor cramping for days after. I decided to get Kyleena due to heavy periods and terrible cramps. My iron levels stayed low, and I would feel very faint at times. Kyleena has really helped the pain and bleeding. My periods are very light, with mild cramps. I plan to have Kyleena removed due to mood swings, weight gain, and vaginal infections, which I've never had before. I feel depressed and angry most days, which is not normal for me at all. The Kyleena IUD might be great for some women, but it's just not working out for me. I hope this helps someone."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had the Mirena inserted in early November. It is now a week from January, and I have had daily bleeding since insertion. I came to the forum because I was concerned. I know that the bleeding timeline varies per person, but who wants a light period for about 8 weeks?! My period has been light, which is the main reason I chose Mirena. I've had extremely heavy periods where I would have to wear an ultra tampon and overnight pad, changing both out in about 2 hours because they were both saturated for years. I am not in pain, although the insertion was very uncomfortable/painful but was a short procedure. Cramps afterward were horrific but passed. Tylenol helped. I have an amazing gyno, and when I called about the duration of my period, he did show concern, asking if I had an odor or pain, which was a no. I will go in for a check-up but am a bit nervous. I don't want to remove it unless absolutely necessary, especially if I am close to my body adjusting to the Mirena."

For Birth Control "I had the Mirena IUD for 2 years, and I LOVED IT! Yes, getting in was a tad painful, had cramping the rest of the day to where I just wanted a hot pad and to lay down, but after that, I was happy that it was in, never had to remember to take a pill. I did feel like it upped my sex drive, my husband never felt the strings at all. I'm not sure if this was part of it, but I felt like I lost weight easily, my periods were sometimes nonexistent, and when I did have them, they were never heavy at all. A pantiliner was all I needed, and my period seemed to last a couple of days vs. 5 days to a full week. Cramping when it did appear was a little painful at times, but nothing a hot pad couldn't fix. After having a baby, I'm going for it again!"

For Birth Control "Alright, I got Liletta in December of 2016, about 5 months after I had my son. After reading some reviews, I was terrified. But let me tell you, the insertion wasn't terrible. Yes, it hurt. But I'm sure the placing of anything in your uterus isn't exactly pleasant. I had cramping for about 24 hours and also had a bit of leg pain, which I thought was odd, but that too subsided within 24 hours. Very mild spotting for about 48 hours after insertion. Then, nothing. Haven't had a period since (7 months), no cramping, no crazy breakouts or weight gain or anything like that. If anything, I lost weight and increased my sex drive. Now, that being said, I do occasionally have an increase in vaginal discharge. Which isn't a big deal."

For Birth Control "Had Kyleena inserted a year ago, and it was incredibly painful. Even a week after, still got cramps as bad as when it was first inserted. The cramps were horrible. No pain medication or heating pad could help. I was moody, getting acne, constant cramps, discharge, and spotting. I had it removed yesterday, and as soon as it was removed, I instantly felt better. My boyfriend even said I instantly seemed like my regular self prior to getting the coil. I can't take the pill because it reacts badly with my epilepsy medication, so thought this was a better choice, but honestly, it was not worth it at all!"

For Birth Control "If you are here to gauge how painful an IUD insertion is, I beg you not to read any reviews on it. Pain is subjective. It really varies from person to person. I say this because I was on here the week before my appointment reading every bit of information. This made my process a thousand times worse. I was so nervous when I went in because reviews said it would be the worst pain I would ever experience. So far from the truth. The doctor will tell you everything you're about to feel; take their word for it. They won't deceive you. I cried a ton because I was so nervous. Relax. Take deep breaths, you'll feel a pinch, it'll hurt some, but not a lot. You'll feel a sudden cramp. It'll hurt because it's sharp, but that's it. Quick and easy! :)"

For Birth Control "Having read all the reviews here, I nearly canceled my appointment to have Mirena fitted. I was terrified not having a high pain threshold. Anyway, I decided to go and have a chat with the doctor first. I took 500 mg of naproxen an hour before my appointment. My description of it is this: to start with, it feels just like a smear, then slight stomach cramps (not as bad as my usual period pains), then another bit of cramping, then done. I was so shocked at how quick it took and how little it hurt. I really was expecting to be in a lot of pain. Now, 2-3 hours later, I've got no bleeding and a bit of a dull ache like period pain. I'm really glad I plucked up the courage to go, it was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "The Mirena was a really good decision that I made. But getting it inserted was the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life. The pain was so bad when the doctor was inserting it I thought I was going to pass out. I bled for a few days after it was in, minor spotting but very intense cramps. I got it almost a month ago, and I am just starting to spot a little again now, so assuming this is my period that is normally very extreme due to my blood disease I have and not being able to clot, the Mirena is working well for me."

For Emergency Contraception "So I promised myself if this works, I have to write a review to put someone out of their worrying misery, because believe me, I was scared for 2 weeks straight. So I had sex with my s/o on August 1st, with no condom or form of birth control (yes, I know, dumb, but hey, I'm human, ya know) and he came in me, completely. On this day, my period tracker app said I was fertile, so this was completely worst-case scenario to me. I took the Plan B 3 hours after the incident, but boy, let me tell you! I was nauseous for the whole week! In my head, I was like, 'yup, I'm done for. I'm pregnant.' Fast forward to August 17th, I got my period a day early and it is heavy and painful. Plan B works. Relax, please!"

I was super tired the day I took it and slept most of the day. I then received bad cramps, I thought I was 'implanting'! A few days later, I started getting nauseous and back pains, I thought I was pregnant! That continued for almost a week. And I got really sick. My boobs hurt, and I had awful pain in my back. At that point, I was terrified! Now, 2 days late, I received my period!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Lots to say about this one. I have focal adenomyosis of the uterus, so it really hurt to get Mirena inserted. I was physically sick immediately after, and I'd like to think my pain threshold is pretty decent considering I live with adeno pains every day. The aim of using Mirena was to try and suppress my pains. Nothing changed in that area, unfortunately, and I ended up with more complications to add to it. My symptoms were constant headaches, brain fog, constant fatigue, moody, weird pains in my legs even though I'm not doing exercise at the moment, always feeling hot and sweaty, night sweats, unable to sleep properly, dry, itchy area down there, constant spotting every single day. The only positive for me was that my periods were lighter, which was outweighed by the fact that I was spotting every day for 5 months. Gave it a good try, and it was not for me! Trying Kyleena next."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 40. I had to change my birth control pills when I got 40. They weren't strong enough for me because I bled really heavy and for 7 days and every other week. So I decided to let my OB/GYN insert the Mirena, which she had tried to get me to get before trying those lighter birth control pills. It's only been a week, but I love not having to think about taking the pill. Also, I was on my period when it was inserted, my period became light the same day and was for three days. For me, the placement was a 3 on a scale of 1-10 with pain. But my cervix is pushed far back and to the side, and they had to pull it towards them to place it, and that pain was a 7. So far, no regrets, only wish I had done it sooner."
