Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I have tried pill after pill, and each time I am left feeling depressed, anxious, and not myself. The last pill I took left me feeling out of whack for 3 months after stopping. After that, I decided it was time to look for a different form of birth control. I was recommended the Mirena IUD. I was absolutely terrified and worried that I would feel out of body again. Hate to break it to you, the insertion was pretty painful, but let me tell you, so worth it. I have now had my IUD for about a month. I feel perfectly fine, nothing painful or odd. My first period with the IUD was completely manageable, minor cramps at most. I feel protected, comfortable, and most importantly, myself. Again, EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. But I would seriously recommend the Mirena."

Levonorgestrel for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I got the Mirena three weeks ago. Was worried after what I had read here, so I took two Advil an hour before. Insertion had a few painful moments, but it was over quickly. No pain or bleeding since. So far, so good."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I wanted to leave a review because your reviews meant so much to me when I was scared and freaking out: I had unprotected sex Sunday morning, and he didn't pull out in time. I was not on birth control. I got/took Aftera almost exactly 24 hours later because they were out of Plan B. I experienced some slight pain and headaches, but I started my period 5 days later. This absolutely works, even if you can't take it immediately after unprotected sex. I was so scared that because I had waited 24 hours, it was too late, but it wasn't. And just because this is the more generic version, it does work, just remember we've all got different circumstances going on. Happy New Year :)"

For Emergency Contraception "I luckily found this page to comfort me. I had every single early pregnancy symptom in the book, like “implantation bleeding” and pain, headache, tired, sore breast, frequently using the toilet, VERY tired, etc., and a delayed period of 8 days! While on Google, I was so stressed and already called the doctor and clinic. I tested every day since 4 days before my expected period (I know a bit much, but yeah..) It’s just the morning-after pill that changed my cycle and gave me these side effects + lots of stress. Don’t worry, you will be fine. I never had a late period in my life, and now due to this pill, it is late. It’s worth the result to use it, but never the stress. Please be careful and don’t do this to yourself if you don’t need to. I used this pill before with no side effects. But the stress/side effects and thinking that it didn’t work was way too much."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I first decided on Mirena because I was terrible with taking my pills on time. I was in nursing school, and with my schedule all over the place, I was non-compliant. I finally decided on Mirena, even though I had read some horrifying reviews. On the day of insertion, I had mild pain, similar to PMS. I took 800 mg of ibuprofen and felt just fine. I had light spotting for 2-3 days after. Just enough for a liner, not a pad. It has been 2 years now, and I absolutely love it. My boyfriend has never complained of feeling the strings. I have had some 'pressure' during intercourse, but nothing unbearable. I definitely recommend this, just remember, there is no protection against STIs, so get tested! Hope this helps!"

Levonorgestrel for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have always controlled my periods and the heaviness of them with the pill. When the pill no longer worked to control my heavy bleeding and huge clots, the Mirena was suggested to try, otherwise, I would need a hysterectomy. I have to say the Mirena is the best thing I have ever done. I wish I had done it years earlier. Once inserted, I had a light period every second week for about 6 weeks. Then nothing, no period at all. I do get slight spotting maybe every 3 months. Honestly, this is the best thing for my health. I feel so much better, no more pain, heavy bleeding, clots, or anemia, and I have much more energy."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I hate this pill due to all the horrible side effects I experienced. I had unprotected sex with my husband when we got married on May 28th. My period happened the week prior to us having sex. I took the pill a few hours after we had sex. Everything was fine up until two weeks after I consumed the pill. I was feeling sore, tender breasts that I couldn't even wear a bra since it hurt so much, horrible cramps, I was bloated like a cow, I had to take organic teas to help me, horrible headaches, mood swings, dizziness, and nausea. I had no period for the month of June and I started to worry. Today is July 11th and I just started my period! Praise the Lord! Pill works, horrible side effects. Six-week late period."

Levonorgestrel for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "It’s been 14 months since I had the Mirena inserted under anesthetic to help with heavy bleeding and severe pain. Two weeks following insertion, I had the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I got off the bus and almost collapsed to the ground. All normally, apparently. I bled consistently and quite a bit for about six months. Now it switches from very light to just a bit lighter than a period. I stayed on the pill until just recently to help with cramps and bleeding. I use a liner every day, there is enough discharge that I couldn’t not wear one. If you don’t mind light to moderate bleeding/pain almost all the time, then I would recommend it. At least keep it in for twelve months. The first six months or so are pretty bad, but it does ease up. Don’t get discouraged at first."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I had my IUD inserted in November 2017, and it was super painful for me (I was 23 w/ no children). I had terrible cramping for about 2 weeks afterwards, and my cervix continued to be sensitive for about 3 months after insertion, making me unable to have sex without severe discomfort. After this, I didn't have much issue for a few months and was happy with the IUD other than occasional cramping when I was supposed to have my usual period. I had minor spotting but never had an actual period after having my IUD inserted. About 4 months ago, I began having severe pain almost constantly on the left side of my body (lower back, pelvis, leg, ankle, etc.). When talking to my gyno about it, he sent me for internal and external ultrasounds, which came out normal. My doctor put me on antibiotics and two anti-inflammatory medications for 3 weeks and hoped it would clear up. After that round of meds, my pain wasn't as constant, and I was able to have sex with only minor discomfort. Now my chronic pain is back and in full force. Some days I can barely walk, and I am essentially living in anticipation of taking my next dose of pain relief because it barely works anymore. My gyno still doesn't have any idea what it could be, except for my IUD not reacting well with my body (which he claims he's never heard of), so he suggested I have it removed. After further research, it seems that younger women without children are prone to pains such as this, which had never been mentioned to me. My doctor continues to tell me that my pain and experience are very rare and that he isn't sure why it's happening, but with a little more research, I've heard about many people having an experience typical to this but being told it 'wasn't the IUD.' I'm hoping that once it's removed (my doctor has scheduled me to get it removed a month and a half from now, ugh), that this chronic pain will go away, and I will be able to function normally again. I'll update this when I do!"

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "So I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend on the 19th. We did it, and he pulled out, but he's not very experienced with doing that, so I was scared that he did get some in me. Less than an hour later, we went to Target and bought the pill, and I took it about 30 minutes later. I felt fine the first couple of days, then on the 27th, I began feeling really sick, like I was going to throw up anything I ate. I also began having slight cramps and pain in my right ovary. I was freaking out mostly because I needed to pee more often, even though I was drinking anything really, and I heard that was a sign of early pregnancy. But yesterday (30th), I started having period-like cramps, and behold, I got my period today. It's about a week early, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I got my Mirena placed today, and while time will tell what happens, my insertion experience was nothing like the majority of reviews I've read. I am 31 years old and have 2 daughters, the youngest being 19 months. I had absolutely no problem with insertion. I share because I saw so many posts about pain and cramps, and while everyone is different, it's not that scary. I will follow up, but I will say this was nothing more than a pap to me. Moms, I feel great, happy, and I'm not gushing like I've heard happens. It's been most of the day, and I'm barely spotting. Much luck, be safe, but don't be turned off by everything you read ☺"

Levonorgestrel "Well, I'm the first one reviewing this... I got my Kyleena IUD placed on Dec. 2nd, 2016. It was painful, but no more so than other IUDs I've read about. The issues I'm having are constant spotting. I've been bleeding lightly (where I have to wear a light pad so I don't ruin my underwear every day) for two months now. The office told me about a month ago that my spotting is normal and most likely means once I stop spotting, I'll be done with my period for the five years Kyleena is good for. But I'm starting to get a bit worried... two months of bleeding seems excessive. Anyone else have experience with this?"

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "22, no kids. LOVE. The insertion was painful, I took two ibuprofen 30 minutes prior, like my gyno directed. Thanks to the most supportive nurse and nurse aide, insertion went smoothly. I was in and out in an hour. After a week of discomfort and 2 months of getting an irregular period, I now no longer have a period. This is a miracle device-no kids and no aunts for 5 years."

Levonorgestrel for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had a copper IUD for 5 years, no issues other than heavy bleeding for the first 3 months after getting my IUD. I had the Mirena IUD for 6 days, always felt pressure (to the point it was causing pain and could barely walk), so I had to have it removed, bleeding, and severe moodiness. From what I've researched, the side effects of Mirena are extreme compared to the copper."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I had Mirena twice. The first time I was thinking on getting it out because it hurt when I had sex, and when it fell out, I decided to get another one put in. It's been in since Dec. 11, and I don't feel it anymore, little to no period, and no more pain during sex. My breakouts are clearing up little by little, and sex drive has NOT been affected."

Levonorgestrel for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Due to a blood clot history in my family, I can't take hormones... thus, the Mirena IUD was recommended to help deal with my heavy, nonstop bleeding. I had it put in 2 months ago. The bleeding is not gushing anymore, but I am still bleeding every single day, nonstop. Such a drag. I still have cramps. I am moody and sore and feel like crap. I hate it! I want to take it out tomorrow, but then what if the hemorrhaging comes back? Stuck between a rock and a hard place. It all sucks."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I had Mirena for a little over 2 years now, and I love it. I got it after my 2nd child. I did not feel any pain or cramping when the doctor inserted Mirena. I have been on the patch, the pill, Depo-Provera way before I got Mirena. I am 28 years old, and in a few more years, I am going to get this one again. I would definitely recommend it to anyone."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I understand every woman is different, but Mirena has been wonderful for me. I have struggled for 25 years with painful cramps and excessive bleeding, and Mirena is the only thing that has worked for me. I never have had children, so there was some pretty nasty pain when it was put in. I am on my second one, and it was much less painful the second time around. Both my husband and I could feel my strings at first, but that faded with time. As I said, it isn't for everyone."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "Kyleena insertion was extremely painful for me (I screamed and swore). This BC was convenient in theory, that is, until you get the unpleasant side effects: random panic attacks, anxiety about everything and nothing at the same time, lol. The anxiety became more frequent and intense over time. It also felt like a dark cloud was looming over me, I didn't feel like my happy self. I also had vivid and sometimes frightening dreams. This all greatly interfered with my daily functioning. I finally requested removal after only 2 months because I couldn't tolerate the experience. I was not willing to wait a few more months to see if I felt better-'IF' being the operative word here, lol. Removal was far less painful. I am now 2.5 weeks post-removal, and my anxiety has been dissipating, and I am slowly but surely starting to feel like myself again and at peace. I think the IUD is a convenient method of birth control if it works for you. It just did not work out for me, and I am okay with that."

Levonorgestrel "So far, so good with Mirena. I do not really have pains. I did sort of stop having regular periods. The first month was so bad though...bleeding every day and spotting every time I thought it was finally over. So far, it's my second month, and I do not have a period, but I have like brown-colored blood, which I am assuming is just my uterus getting rid of old blood. Pain was moderate at first, but not so much now. Honestly, it did feel as if the bleeding would never end, but it did stop. Just have a little patience and monitor yourself to make sure that there is nothing abnormal from how your body is changing. Keep in mind that the body has to adjust to the higher hormonal dose that this IUD provides. Just hang in there and be positive!"

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I had the Mirena placed about 4 years ago. From day 1, it has been complete misery. It is painful, it is disrupting my hormones, I have gained 30 lbs, I have brain fog, fatigue, severe myalgia. It worked its main purpose of ensuring no unwanted pregnancies, but in my opinion, it was a high price to pay. My quality of life was affected, and I would not recommend it to anyone, ever."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I had the Mirena inserted after my child was born. He was six weeks old at the time, and I was 36. Since then (a year ago), I have gained 12 kg (no change to my diet, etc.), have back and pelvic pains and inflammations all the time, and no sex drive. My marriage is struggling, and my moods are absolutely horrible. The gynecologist does not want to remove it as he swears by the Mirena and thinks I am overindulging and just full of nonsense. I feel horrible, bloated, and moody 100% of the time. I need some help, please."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I just had my Mirena put in yesterday. I work in an OBGYN office, and I had one of our doctors put it in. I searched reviews and saw a lot of negatives on the pain during insertion. I just wanted to share my experience for those out there looking for a positive review. My doctor prescribed misoprostol (dilates the cervix) to insert vaginally 24 hours and 12 hours before the insertion because I haven't had children. I would strongly recommend doing this if you haven't had kids. The doctor used lidocaine when measuring my cervix, which helped. My uterus is retroverted, and she had no issues placing it. It's uncomfortable, but not unbearable. Just take deep breaths and focus on something else, and you'll be done! Make sure you have a heating pad and Aleve."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I decided to write a review because I wish someone told me this on one. Most people who are unhappy with anything will write a review, but the people who are happy don't think to write reviews. Thus, I want to share how I am so happy with my experience. I only just got it in today, but so far so good. It's been about 6 hours, and I am having mild cramping. The insertion process was a bit painful, but doable. I recommend taking ibuprofen before. But if you are hesitant because of the bad reviews, then take a minute and realize that everyone is different, and most people don't share the good reviews! I say go for it and see how it works with your body!"

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I just want to say before I start this that I have a very low pain tolerance. I am 18, with 1 kid, and I would just like to say that I thought this would be a terrible experience because of some very bad reviews. I think everyone reviews when something goes bad and not enough people review the good things. I was pleasantly surprised to not feel any pain at all. When they measure your cervix, it is uncomfortable. When they clean your cervix, it feels like a pap smear. And I have read a lot of reviews where people say they feel a pinch, but I didn't even feel it. All I felt was the cramps afterward. But this is only the day after I got it, as I am writing this, and I feel just like normal. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!!!!!"
