For Birth Control "I have been on Kyleena for about 4 months, and I can say it has had me all over the place. I have 4 kids, which has definitely helped my cramping in a positive way. I decided to get on birth control after giving birth to my last son because I didn’t want to get my tubes tied based on what I have heard from women that have had their tubes tied. I heard that the cramps are really bad and blood flow will increase tremendously. I have tried several pills, and they would all make me sick. So my doctor wanted me to try the IUD, and she recommended the Kyleena. Insertion was okay, just cramping and spotting. Now I am having bad mood swings, I am depressed all the time, my anxiety is through the roof, I cry for no reason, I get really bad headaches, I have experienced dizziness, weight gain of 10 pounds, and spotting. I am trying to give it a year because I have to be on some form of birth control, but this IUD is giving me the blues."

For Birth Control "After the insertion, I began to cramp really badly, and I put a heating pad on and was in bed all day. I had to call into work. Two weeks later, I made an appointment to get it out, my anxiety and depression were crazy high."

For Birth Control "I've had Kyleena inserted for only two months, and I've experienced a lot of the bad side effects, including fatigue (feeling sleepy constantly and lack of energy), weight gain, cravings, anxiety, and depression. Before Kyleena, I was very healthy and mostly emotionally grounded. I am in my early 30s, and I have previously used pills before, but they did not work well for me due to the level of hormones. When I went in for a consultation, I was told that the level of hormone in Kyleena is significantly less. I have been getting acne as well as depressive thoughts. Not recommended."

For Birth Control "I am in the health care profession and would consider myself knowledgeable about IUDs. My doctor told me I couldn’t get the copper IUD because I hadn’t had kids yet. I wanted the Paragard because it has no hormone. With the Kyleena, I was hesitant because of the hormone levels, although low, still hormone. Soooo... It ended up being the scariest experience of my life. I began feeling very depressed, worsening anxiety, and began having feelings of fear. I expressed this to my doctor and it was blamed on my underlying anxiety. This is and was different... I know how to manage my underlying anxiety, but this feeling was bigger than me. I got it taken out after multiple consults and ultrasounds. I developed cysts, terrible left-sided abdominal pain, constant bloating, and discomfort. I decided to get it removed, and it was the best decision. I know it works for others, so if it does, awesome. But if not, and your doctor or anyone is trying to persuade you to keep it in... follow your gut!"

For Birth Control "Prior to getting Kyleena, I had a Skyla IUD for 3 years and had no issues. I got the Kyleena one because the time duration was longer, and it was what my gyno recommended. Last month, after being on this IUD for 1.5 years, I began to feel off. My period was super light, and then I had continued heavier bleeding in the week after. I was worried and made an appointment with my gyno, and decided to take a pregnancy test just to be safe. Well, you can imagine my surprise when my test came back positive! Along with several other positive tests after that. I went to the doctor, and she was surprised as well since my IUD was fully in place and nothing appeared wrong with it. This has caused me an immense amount of stress and anxiety, and I will no longer be using an IUD due to my experience. It is a shame because I had an IUD for over 4 years, and I loved having one, but I am not risking getting pregnant again at this stage of life."

For Birth Control "I'm 20 years old and I got Kyleena inserted about 1 month ago. Insertion was super easy, I drove myself to and from it. The worst part felt like a bad cramp. About a week after insertion, I got my period for 4ish days, now I have been spotting ever since, 20+ days. I've had horrible mood swings and anxiety, and I’m always hungry. I feel so out of touch with my body, and I’m very aware that it’s inside of me. I’m getting it taken out next week. Seriously, such a waste of money for myself at least. I guess it works well as birth control, though. I really wanted to love it, but I can’t."

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena inserted towards the end of September and have had it now for 6 months. The insertion was painful, but definitely bearable. I bled/spotted lightly for about 3 months straight, and although long periods of bleeding, it was an extremely light flow. The concept of Kyleena is amazing, and you can't even tell it's there. Fast forward to now, I am now developing severe anxiety, brain fog, and intense feelings of worry/paranoia, which is interfering with my daily life. I experienced my first panic attack one month after insertion, with increased anxiety, but it was manageable, and I expected things to get better with time. Now, this has become a daily struggle, and I feel like I've lost my sense of self. Luckily, I've never had any pain or cysts, no increase in acne, no dryness, and my libido has stayed the same. I'm sad I have to get it removed, but it is not worth the mental side effects."

For Birth Control "I was on Kyleena birth control for one month. I’m 18 and have been on the pill, and I also have been on Nexplanon. I switched from Nexplanon to Kyleena because I gained 40 pounds with Nexplanon and thought, since Kyleena has lower hormones, it would be a better option. I was so, so, so wrong. About 3 weeks after insertion, I started getting severe panic attacks, anxiety, and depression, which I’ve never had. Spiraling irrational thoughts, extreme fear of literally anything and everything. I had it removed 3 days ago and feel a lot better but not completely myself again. I’m praying that soon all the hormones will be out of my body and I will be back to normal again. I’d much rather be pregnant than ever have the symptoms that I had again."

For Birth Control "I'm finally gaining the courage to take it out. I've had it for a little over a year now, cervical shock when I had it put in. Passed out in the elevators leaving the appointment. Really rough six months afterwards. Cramping, suddenly I had ovulation pain that I'd never had before, acne, crazy painful breasts... but the reason I'm having it removed is the anxiety. My anxiety has been astronomical since getting this thing. Had my first panic attack after having it placed. Was told by several doctors it shouldn't have that effect, but here we are."

For Birth Control "This drug is awful... Side effects began 2 days after insertion. Before Kyleena, I was only using condoms, so it was not a transition off of the pill. A week prior, I had clear, even skin. After Kyleena, my skin became so red and irritated that clothing brushing against my chest was painful. This was compounded with uncontrollable anger and irritation. I would fly off the handle for no reason and then burst into tears. I felt like I was going crazy. The anxiety kept me up every night. The headaches couldn't be stopped, even doubling up on Advil. I was sweating, hot, and oily, and I am normally a cold person with dry skin. My blood pressure was raised from normal. My sex drive completely dropped off, and having sex became mentally impossible. I went to have it removed twice, and my doctor talked me out of it. Finally, after a month of torture, a walk-in clinic agreed to remove it for me. It's only been a few days, but the headaches have already stopped, and my mood is returning to normal. Buyer beware."

For Birth Control "So I have had the Kyleena in for about a year now. I’m 23 years old, never had kids, and this was the first birth control I’ve ever been on. Before I got the IUD, I had the most awful cramps. While the IUD has helped tremendously with my cramps and periods, I have an appointment to get it taken out this afternoon. About 6 months in, I started feeling depressed all the time without an explanation. I’ve been having scary thoughts and strong feelings of fear. I have always been known to be so positive and happy all the time. I also would get anxiety at random times, which I have NEVER had before the IUD. I just haven’t felt like myself in a long time, and at first, I didn’t know why, but I strongly believe it’s the IUD, after other reviews I’ve read of girls feeling the exact same way. This is not for everyone! I tried justifying the way I was feeling for so long but have come to the conclusion that the IUD is not worth the complete change of personality I have experienced."

For Birth Control "I had the Kyleena inserted on 10/4/18. Soon after insertion, the blood clots began... almost every day. In fact, my periods were primarily blood clots and horrible cramping/weight gain. These symptoms were manageable. But, the constant migraines, no sex drive ever, severe; debilitating anxiety/racing thoughts, explosive anger, insomnia (5-7 days without sleeping) during my PMS/period; were not manageable. My OBGYN prescribed me Xanax to combat the negative symptoms; I took the Xanax for only two days and realized the IUD was just not for me. On 2/14/19 I had the IUD taken out and replaced with Paragard. Within several hours of the switch, I felt significantly better - the world lifted off my shoulders, I felt myself becoming more calm, even the splitting headache was gone within 24 hours. Now it's 2/19/19 and I'm back to my calm, level-headed, happy, positive self. The past 4 months have been a hideous rollercoaster."

For Birth Control "5/10. I still have the Kyleena in, and it’s been a little over 3 years. The pros are it works for not getting pregnant, as well as mostly getting rid of periods. I had light to moderate bleeding not very often. The cons or negative symptoms I’ve had are worsened cramps (no previous cramps), negative headspace/anxiety (no previous anxiety), insertion pain was like contractions, mood swings (irrational emotions, never experienced before), and weight gain in the last 6/10 months with no change in diet. I’ve been 125-130 lbs for over 10 years and just recently shot up to around 150 lbs, with the majority of the weight concentrated around my stomach, breasts, and hips. Overall, it does what it is intended, but with all the additional side effects, it comes at a cost. I would not recommend the IUD, and when the 5-year mark comes, I will not be getting a new one. Personal note: I am still also quite frequently worried about migration or getting pregnant, so peace of mind is minimal."

For Birth Control "I had Kyleena for almost 4 years after giving birth to my 2nd child. After relatively easy insertion and a good first year, things got worse. The only positive was the prevention from pregnancy. It took me until I linked my issues to Kyleena. My libido was non-existent, I had to be on a diet and exercising 3x a week not to gain more weight. After 2.5 years, I’ve started experiencing anxiety like never before, with mood swings worse than during pregnancies. I’ve read some of the reviews here and decided to remove Kyleena. Unfortunately, threads were not visible, and the NHS nurse was not able to remove it. I was sent for a scan (waiting for 3 months) and referred to a gynecologist. After 9 months of waiting, I went privately, and it was the best decision ever. Just after several days, I’m starting to feel like my normal self. For me, the whole experience was very stressful, expensive, and almost cost me my sanity."

For Birth Control "I've had Kyleena for about 4 years now. At first, it was all great, but the past 2 years it's been spiraling! Recovery isn't all that terrible, but it's made my anxiety 10x worse, and my hair is thinning out! Cramps are terrible, mood swings, random waves of sadness, always emotional, constantly bloated and tired. Not to mention I got a huge hemorrhagic cyst from Kyleena that is insanely painful. I am getting mine out ASAP. Birth control is terrible for us, the doctors don't tell us, but it really is…"

For Birth Control "Infections, anxiety, acne, and pain in my extremities. Hair loss that has caused awful breakage. Super disappointing, especially since coming off the pill felt amazing. It was great at first, but I’m coming up on a year and thinking about getting it removed this week."

For Birth Control "I have had Kyleena for about 6 months now. I loved the concept of something I didn’t have to remember to take once a day. BUT I developed severe anxiety and depression. So unlike me and came out of nowhere with no life changes. Cramping increased, and I had 2 periods a month! It was a pain in the butt. I had it removed today and hope things go back to normal!"

For Birth Control "I got the Kyleena IUD inserted in June 2018. It’s been about a year and my periods are still all over the place, and I get two periods a month. When I got it inserted, it was painful but not terrible. I bled for 2-3 months straight after that (light). I started to experience hair loss in August, and my hair is not the same since, but I’m using different hair products to grow my hair now. I have increased anxiety, more mood swings, and oilier skin from Kyleena. I also experienced such a terrible smell down there a few weeks after, and I took medicine prescribed by the doctor and it went away. I do notice I get BV more, but I insert boric acid to balance my pH when my vagina feels different."

For Birth Control "Two years ago after my second pregnancy, I got the Kyleena, and honestly, the process of putting it in was horrible. But more horrible are the side effects that I have had to experience: anxiety, constant tachycardia, depression, nervousness, tiredness, little desire to do things. I felt so bad that I made an appointment with my primary doctor. I asked him about what I was feeling, and he sent some studies, including the thyroid, and everything went well. He sent me to the gynecologist because, after investigation, we came to the conclusion that it was Kyleena. I went to the gynecologist and I talked to her about my side effects, and she very relaxed told me that they were NORMAL! And I told her, depression, anxiety, urge to cry, fatigue, were they normal? When I went the first day, you did not tell me about those side effects. I have lived almost two horrible years, and it is normal? On Thursday, May 13, 2021, I got it taken out, and from that first day I felt calmer. I did not feel that it accelerated in a more relaxed."

For Birth Control "So I’ve had the Kyleena for 4 months now. I am still spotting almost every day, but my periods are like my spotting. Haven’t had heavy bleeding. The insertion wasn’t painful at all either. It’s like a deep cramp for a second, and it’s gone. My biggest issue was the first two months. I had severe anxiety and panic attacks. It was truly scary. I sat in the hospital parking lot multiple times debating on going inside. If you have bad anxiety or depression, I would not get this. Other than that, I love my IUD. Hope the spotting stops soon."

For Birth Control "I got my Kyleena on 23rd April 2018, so almost exactly 6 months ago. The pill for me: depression, weight gain, migraines made worse, low sex drive, emotional, paranoid, anxious. The Kyleena first 5 months all becoming less frequent with time: cramps, headaches, emotional, bad skin for about 2 weeks. Now: occasional cramping, possibly period related. Period is just very light spotting now. Mood, weight, and sex drive have been unaffected. The Kyleena IUD is quite an investment, but so far it's been worth it. I had a few months of mild discomfort and now don't have to worry about contraception for 4 and a half more years! I'd recommend anyone who has it to wait 6 or 7 months for symptoms to calm down."

For Birth Control "Ok, I purposely waited to type my opinion because I wanted to give things a try, but I'm gonna be honest and not sugarcoat anything. The procedure itself hurt like hell, but it was really quick. I felt a pinch and then a huge cramp, and it was over. Later on, I went home that night, and I had cramps so bad that I thought I was gonna have to go to the ER. I usually do well with pain, but this pain was a different kind of pain. Fast forward 2 months, and I'm still randomly cramping some days. These cramps are sharp and painful. I still spot. My periods last more than a week, which is annoying, and now I'm starting to feel migraines, random depression, anxiety, and weight gain is the biggest for me, I have put on 15 pounds in a month. I usually exercise 5 days a week and eat very healthy. I'm about to make an appointment to take this thing out, I can't take it. I hope you ladies have better luck than I did."
