For Anesthesia "I was given ketamine for a nerve ablation in my lumbar spine and had horrific hallucinations, not sure if I felt pain and screamed out or was dreaming, but I remember the Dr. saying that's not supposed to happen and could hear the nurses talking. It took me forever to 'wake up.' The nurse felt I was given too much as I was so dizzy and numb, my eyeballs felt like balloons about to pop out of my head, my head felt like a heavy balloon my neck couldn't support, and could barely talk an hour later. I spent over an hour and a half in recovery when they had to finally let me go. My husband had to support me, I was so dizzy and my legs were like noodles. It has been days now, and I feel like crud. Can't concentrate, my entire body aches so bad, and the dreams, no, the nightmares - planes crashing around the house, house being burned down, being hunted by a gang or some sort of bad people. Then I'm so freaked out I can't sleep and depression. I feel so depressed, and I have never felt like this before."

For Anesthesia "I had a severe reaction to ketamine, which included horrifying hallucinations, and instead of knocking me out, I tried to move during the procedure and didn't stop talking throughout the entire procedure."

For Anesthesia "Ketamine was used as an anesthetic a few times whilst I was having surgery, and I had very bad hallucinations afterwards. Each time, I'd have sworn these were real. I don't think it should be used as an anesthetic."

For Depression "I started ketamine oral and nasal sprays around 5 years ago. It was a lifesaver for my depression, but it also worked with my pain medications, and combining the two, I finally got some decent relief from my CRPS, which is in both legs and both feet. Unfortunately, it has been over a year since I have had it due to my two doctors going to ketamine infusions, and being on disability, it's not an option as it costs too much. Still hoping to find someone to write the ketamine nasal spray, as $150 a month is better than $800 a week."

"After decades of being on oral antidepressants, I tried the 6 Ketamine infusions for depression. This was after reading about them and talking with a medical professional. I figured it was worth a try. I was very hopeful that these would work, but unfortunately they did not. They say it helps 70% of people, and I wish I were one of those statistics. It was definitely worth the try, but the cost was $2,850. Good luck. Hope it helps you if you give it a try."

"I had opted for Ketamine infusions after years of antidepressants no longer helping. I have treatment-resistant depression and had high hopes to finally get relief for my immense suffering. Every single treatment was terrifying. I could barely walk and was extremely dizzy and took forever to snap out of it. I should have had 6 treatments in total, but after my 5th and no relief, I wondered if I should continue. Did show up for my 6th and last treatment, however, I had so much anxiety I couldn’t go through with it. I ended up spending so much money for treatments that didn’t help me at all. It actually made me worse. As a teen, I had crippling panic attacks that eventually went away on their own until immediately after my second infusion, I almost ended up at the ER with a terrifying panic attack. And now I am again plagued with panic attacks. So I’m terribly disappointed that Ketamine infusions didn’t help me at all. It was my last hope of at least taking the edge off my depression."

For Pain "I had a total knee replacement, and the surgeon used ketamine in the hospital. I don't know where so many quacks think it works to the point of getting up and walking immediately afterward. This is a horrible pain reliever for such severe pain. On top of that, because I was in such pain, I received no therapy in the 5 days I was in the hospital. 2 months out and still in extreme pain."

For Anesthesia "Worst experience ever. I was flagged for propofol incorrectly, so they used ketamine. It was used to put me to sleep while removing a kidney stone through my male part. When I woke up, it was as if I was in a scene from the Matrix, all digitized. I never felt so horrified and dreaded, but I do not know why. The nurses said I was hallucinating badly. When I did become conscious and recognized someone, I apparently said, 'you're real. Don't leave me,' and kept repeating it. I still remember the recovery as terrifying, but why, I cannot recall."

"This was one of the most intense and depleting experiences I have ever had with IM ketamine. It was one nightmare of a trip, but really I gained very little from it. I was completely aware of the therapist with me, and I saw a lot of colors and kaleidoscopes that people are describing. The therapist I barely knew, and she talked me into doing it and wanted me to do more, but no way. I feel so down and drained and not better or relieved at all. I cried and felt vibrations in my body, but I wasn't able to really get to anything deeper that I was hoping for. I see people say do it more times, but I am scared. Also, does anyone know if this can cause changes in the brain? I hope I feel better soon because I did not feel bad until I took this medicine. Do not take it lightly, it is a hallucinogen and an anesthetic, and I have never felt good after anesthesia. It's the same bad depression you get after a procedure. I was on it for anxiety and depression."

For Depression "I recently started getting 100mg IM injections of ketamine for my treatment-resistant bipolar, treatment-resistant PTSD, and ADHD. It is a jarring experience, but has helped more than any other med on the market. The clinic took a risk since I have a psychotic past, but the treatments ended up stopping the commands in my head completely. I don't think it's amazing for my PTSD, but for the depression and suicidal ideation, it's the best available."

For Pain "I have only had one treatment so far. The experience was engulfing but okay. I felt like it was a video game that swooshed me from one changing room to another. I remember thinking if you did not know to expect it, it would be horrifying. I was able to think still but every thought seems slowed down. When it ended, I was amazed. As trippy as the experience was, even more strange was feeling like I had two normal legs again. Since 2009, I have tried multiple pain-relieving options and therapy. Some reduce it, but this took it away completely! After one week, I started to feel a little offness in my leg. I also have plantar fasciitis in the foot, so I thought it was probably that I was sensing. A week later, and the stiffness started to come back. 17 days after the treatment, my pain is starting to return. I called today to go in next week. The cost for me so far is $250 per hour treatment. The first was an hour. The second will also be that. Going to try the cream also. Worth it to be pain-free."

For Anesthesia "I was having a lot of anxiety prior to having a c-section. I had already been given an epidural. The anesthesiologist gave me something that he said would “calm my nerves,” and everything instantly went black. I remember it all. It felt like I was falling down a pitch-black hole, and I can remember fighting to get back to my c-section. I thought I had died. I remember having stopped breathing and fighting to get a breath. When I finally came to, I was being stitched up from my tubal and c-section, so I have no idea how long I was actually out. I kept trying to ask the nurse if I was alive and okay and where my baby was, but I kept going right back out. My fiancé said my eyes were open the whole time, but I was unresponsive and just kept saying ahh. He said the baby came out blue and had to be put on oxygen. It was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced. It’s 16 months later and I’m just now finding out that that’s what I was put on because it’s in my child’s doctor notes."

"I recently had my first dose of IV ketamine for MDD. I was very hesitant, but nothing has helped. I was expecting to be kind of sedated and not aware of things. I was aware of what was going on. I had bad dissociation and thought I was dying. I thought I was going to be trapped in this state of dissociation forever. I was even becoming paranoid of the doctor and RN. I asked for my girlfriend to reorient. I suggest having a trusted person with you. The nurse slowed down the infusion, and I began to return to reality. I was told later by the nurse that ketamine reacts differently with each person. She said it helps to be relaxed before transfusion. I’m going to try another treatment today at a lower dose. If I have a bad “trip,” I’m not going back. I can’t believe anyone would enjoy ketamine recreationally. I’m a retired RN and gave ketamine to a child once. I apologize to that child."

For Pain "I had experienced a terrible headache and anxiety and went to the emergency room. The doctor ordered this drug and gave it to me through an IV. It was the most terrible experience of my life. The hallucinations were so scary I thought I was going to die. It was horrible and lasted 20 minutes, everything in the room was moving. I was flying in the air and then went down into a deep black hole. The hallucinations were really so scary. It didn't do me any good except to scare me to death. I thought I was actually dying."

For Anesthesia "I was psychotic and aggressive and restrained and given ketamine IM in each leg. I went into deep relaxation and lost sense of time, self. I don't remember it all, but it was a positive experience, and it resulted in me going home instead of a psych ward."

For Pain "I went to the hospital with a headache, and they gave me ketamine. I had the most frightening experience of my life. The hallucinating and out-of-body experience was terrible. I had no control, and I thought I was going to die. I am home and can't stop thinking about what I went through. It was a horrible, horrible experience that I ever had, and I had no control."

For Anesthesia "Cardioversion. Dr. said this was the only drug they could give me because my blood pressure was low! When administered, immediately went out. There was a loud siren to begin with, no wailing. Then there was siren wailing. I saw pictures, like a TV screen, the picture would begin at the bottom and explode at the top, and I would begin again at the bottom. I felt as if I died with the explosion (the end of the picture) and was born at the beginning of the new photo. The screen/photo and the sound would crescendo at the explosion. The explosion was a bright light. Screen after screen, sometimes a plant or building or person, siren after siren, life to death, over and over. I tried to stop myself from waking up! Depressed for 3 weeks now. The worst experience of my life!"

For Anesthesia "Went to the ER for a rectal abscess. Was given ketamine 50 mg as anesthesia. My wife was wearing glasses and a mask, and all of a sudden, she looked cartoon-like. Like a picture, one dimensional. The room was white with a beautiful mural of a lake and forest. It bled out to white. Intense white. My wife staring at me with a mask was so intense. Couldn't tell any facial features because of the mask. Felt helpless and dramatic and so intense. Feeling of gloom and doom. I knew I was dying. Was waiting for the moment of severe pain and then death. Came down ok. But have PTSD now, been 6 days. Can't get rid of thoughts. Will not ever take this drug again."

"I am about to take my 3rd 'journey', I suffer from depression, PTSD, and ADHD and overwhelming guilt. Been taking up to 5 SSRIs for 10 years and desperately want some relief. Can't work, have no interests in anything, and only 2 friends left. Also, no car so my world is very small. I cannot spend the next 30 years (I'm 50) wasting my life and not contributing to the world in general. Which is EXACTLY what my mother is doing. I feel like a waste of space and of no use to anyone. Because of my extensive 'pharmacy,' I was prescribed 300mg in the first instance which I found quite pleasurable, although I didn't have any visions or see Baby Jesus, I felt as though I were flying, which was pretty cool...but that was it. So, my dose has been augmented to 1400mg, and I am VERY excited to see what happens. Just waiting for the meds to arrive. I'll report back. Thanks for these reviews, super helpful and I am optimistic!"

For Depression "I’ve tried ketamine intravenously and in powder form for depression. You definitely want to be lying down and warm. I felt connected to the world and made me feel not afraid of death. A very positive experience. When taking intravenously, I was also suffering from Lyme disease, which affected me mentally and physically; and I’m not sure if it helped my depression or not. But it was absolutely a peak experience in a positive way."

"It changed my life! I’ve had depression since I was 12. I’ve tried so many antidepressants, etc., amphetamines, only ketamine has changed my thinking. I started with IV and now take 200 mg of sublingual every three days! I understand everyone doesn’t do great, but I do believe it should be tried."

For Anesthesia "I had an emergency C-section at 29 weeks of pregnancy. My spinal failed. I screamed and cried when the surgeon cut me. I was not given general anesthesia because a nurse who knew my son was not moving/kicking anymore thought making me eat something right before my emergency ultrasound was a good idea. My water had been broken for a few days, and I had been on hospital bed rest. They gave me ketamine. I still felt them burning my flesh, and at one point, it felt like the surgeon grabbed my organs right under my lower ribs and was trying to yank them out of my body. I felt like I was being disemboweled, and my baby was being stolen from my body. I tried to scream a lot. I heard whooshing sounds in my ears. I believe I felt the entire surgery while paralyzed, thinking I was dying from the extreme pain. I was told by family that my eyes were open, and I was drooling. As my pain got more intense, I began to forget my name, who I am, and what I am. I suffered tremendously. My postpartum pain was severe."

For Anesthesia "This is for Shabby_chick. I also was administered ketamine as an anesthetic with the same results. You described what I went through to a capital T. Problem is I had another surgery on my foot with a different anesthetic and experienced the same horror. I was awake and aware of everything going on in the O.R. I even tried concentrating on moving one finger to let them know I wasn't 'under.' The worst thing for me both times is being intubated and having a respirator breathing for me when I probably would have been hyperventilating. During that surgery, I finally passed out from fright when the surgeon called for the bone saw and I heard it whirring. Yes, haunted for life, you bet."

"Terrible experience with ketamine infusions for depression. I had three infusions, and not only did they not work on the depression, I was left with insomnia, numbness in my extremities, and increased anxiety. Beyond that, it is very expensive. I do not recommend these infusions, and I think all these ketamine clinics should be shut down. There is no evidence of any long-term help for depression with these infusions."
