For Back Pain "I would take indomethacin when I would get a gout attack, and within hours, I would get instant relief. I only took 1-2 pills, 50 mg, and then quit. So I've been experiencing lower back pain for at least 6-8 months. I have been to a chiropractor numerous times with some relief, but muscle tension is still present after alignments. Yesterday, I started taking indomethacin, and one day later, for the first time, I feel the muscles relax in my back. Feels great to walk and stand without the tension and stiffness that I was experiencing. This med works wonders!!"

For Ankylosing Spondylitis "I took indomethacin for my AS for years. Nobody told me this drug was toxic to the kidneys. At my regular clinics, blood tests indicated declining kidney function. My doctors did what they could, but my kidneys had been destroyed. I have since had a kidney transplant. This failed after 7 months, so I am waiting for another transplant now. If you are taking this drug regularly, I would suggest you have regular blood tests to check your kidney function."

For Gout, Acute "Have had several bouts of gout and the pain is terrible. I get it in the big and second toe with joint swelling, hot and red. Within 2 hrs of my first dose of indomethacin, the pain was almost gone. One 50 mg tablet so far, no side effects, unlike other drugs I have been prescribed, which are very hard on the stomach and cause diarrhea. I will have to see what happens after a few more doses."

For Gout, Acute "The generic drug is not working so well this time. I took INDOCIN 4 years ago, and the gout went away in less than 4 days. I've learned that not wearing properly fitted shoes with arch and foot support can cause bunions leading to gout. Yes, uric acid is the root of gout, but not wearing proper shoes can make gout worse and flare up. Drink tons of water, as this reduced the swelling by 80% alone in 2 days without meds! I'm on the fence because I wake up and it's gone down a lot. Five hours or so later, it's swelling up again despite eating little sugar, drinking lots of water, and not putting too much pressure on the foot. Maybe the generic or this version is not as effective as the main brand - INDOCIN. Does anyone care to share their thoughts?"

For Gout, Acute "Miracle relief. Take stomach issues over the gout pain. I find it better than colchicine. No running to the bathroom, just a little pain in my stomach and gassy. I used one script for two years. When an attack would come on, I would take it immediately and the pain was much less than letting it get severe and then take it. If you have had recurrent gout, you can sort of feel it coming on and you know what's coming if you don't get it controlled quickly."

Indomethacin for Pain "I would like to say that I went to the E.R., and they couldn't find out why I was having the chest pains, also, PE (pulmonary embolism) had been ruled out. Every time I took a breath, it was so painful. They were giving me morphine every hour, the pain would not subside. So, I went to my primary care physician, and he diagnosed me with pleurisy, which is an inflammation of the lining of your lungs. So, he prescribed Indocin for me, and after one day, I started getting serious relief."

For Osteoarthritis "I'm taking a total of 150 mg/day for moderate-severe OA. This medication has been a blessing. It takes about 2 hours to reach its peak pain relief and lasts about 7-9 hours. Prior to taking indomethacin, my quality of life was kind of in the gutter...the things I enjoy doing hurt too much to do. This is when I felt the potential risks of indomethacin (notably, rare but serious GI and cardiovascular risks) were justified by the potential benefits. With the amount of pain relief this provided me, I feel good about this decision as I can now live my life on my own terms, for the most part. I have experienced side effects - insomnia and occasional dizziness. The severity of both has decreased with time. Taking the medication with a moderately sized meal reduces this. I also take this with a few ounces of purified aloe vera juice (there is some, although not conclusive, evidence to suggest that this may provide a protective effect against the tendency of NSAIDs to cause GI inflammation.)"

For Pain "Indomethacin is the only drug to relieve my 35+ years of chronic pain caused by undetermined types of headaches. Multiple tests and scans have not found any causes for the chronic pain/headaches. I have tried anti-seizure drugs and other pain relievers to no avail. I have been taking indomethacin for only a few years now and wish I had gotten it when I was 13."

For Gout, Acute "Fairly good pain-relieving medicine, it works within hours. Side effects are bad but temporary (sleepy, nauseated, felt very lethargic). Gout attack repeats, after a few days, pain shifts from one part to the other part of the foot, redness hot from toe to the sole of the foot. Doctor is going to prescribe a maintenance medicine after seeing the results of blood work."

For Cluster Headaches "Terrible daily headaches with nausea, brain fog, pressure, and extreme fatigue. All I can do is lie on the couch all day with no energy to do anything. Truly crippled. Even though I don't feel like it's cluster, diagnosed as cluster/TAC. The first time I took a 25 mg indomethacin, I was up and building a chest of drawers within 30 mins. Absolutely unreal! Could not believe it. Still had a headache, but a 'normal' headache. Fatigue gone. Absolutely impossible to do that without this miracle med - just 25 mg as well. Have to say, some scary side effects on occasion though - shuffling - cannot walk, spaced out when I take it sometimes, and eyesight focus problems, uncoordinated occurs the day after. HAVE to take it with lansoprazole or it destroys the GI tract. Also now diagnosed with prolonged QT syndrome - which is definitely due to the tablet's effects."

For Gout, Acute "I unfortunately have been having gout attacks every other week for the past 4 years. I'm on a daily dose of Allopurinol 25 mg, but when I can feel a gout attack coming on, I pop an indomethacin 50 mg and usually I take 2 pills every 2 hours, then it's gone. 2 weeks later, same routine. I thank my doctor every month I see her for her script."

For Back Pain "Forty years ago, I took a course of Indocin for degenerative spinal arthritis. I have been trying to get someone to listen to what happened, but no one seems interested. Okay. The arthritis disappeared and has not recurred. I am 81 now. Also, at the time, I had been having monthly recurring cold sores-had even developed scar tissue on my lip. After the Indocin, no cold sores for 40 years. It can't be a coincidence!"

For Gout, Acute "I get a gout flare-up once or twice a year, and usually one or two pills knock it out. This time around, one 50 mg pill is not working so well... I am on my 5th and 6th pill (took 2 or 100 mg) about an hour ago, and I am currently feeling the pain subside. Anyone else here use dosages above 50 mg... any side effects?"

For Gout, Acute "I am one to accidentally drill through my thumb and wrap it in electrical tape and call it good, but after two days with my first case of gout, I was unable to put on pants by myself without screaming. Was given a shot of Toradol and prescribed indomethacin, and I must say it really helps but hasn't taken the pain away fully. A 10 down to a dull 3. Makes me feel tired constantly and also have to use the restroom constantly along with dry mouth. It's worth it... Trade the pain for the tiredness any day."

For Gout, Acute "I've often had gout. At first, I didn't even know what it was. I've had it mostly in my feet, but once in my elbow. My forearm looked like Popeye. It usually lasts for a week or so. Lately, my doctor has prescribed indomethacin, 50 mg capsules. The first time, I took one, and it didn't do much. I reverted to Advil. The second time, I popped two. The pain was gone in an hour, and the redness was gone the next morning!"

For Gout, Acute "I used to eat spicy foods and very rich foods that caused my gout to act up. I couldn't even walk up the stairs. I woke up one morning and called my doctor. She recommended indomethacin to me, and in less than a week, the pain was gone, and I could move my knee with no pain. It really works."

For Gout, Acute "I've had gout in my foot twice. Last night, my knee began to hurt. Intense pain when trying to walk. My doctor prescribed indomethacin 50 mg three times a day. I could walk easily after the first dose of medicine. Good stuff."

For Gout, Acute "Medicine highly effective, but you must make lifestyle changes - no soda pop, beer, cigarettes, meat, bread. I must watch my consumption of preserved foods, canned foods, sugar and salt, as well as some smoked meats and vegetables. Gout is teaching me to be responsible with my health. Indomethacin is a miracle drug for gout sufferers."

For Gout, Acute "It works fast. Take it as directed. It does not completely cure but gets you to the point where you can manage the pain. I had a very severe gout attack, could not walk. Two hours later I was limping. Two days later I'm walking and limping. It should be over soon. Thank God for this little green pill."

For Gout, Acute "My mates told me about the tablets, and wow, had an attack for 5 days in my knee. I could not walk or get out of the chair, my mate gave me some. I know I should not take somebody else's tablets, but when in pain, you will do anything. The next day after taking indomethacin, I could get out of the chair and walk. I'm still sore, but after 3 days, back to normal."

For Gout, Acute "I get gout several times a year. I play a lot of tennis, and I seem to get the gout in my toes, knees, and wrist. I try to take this medicine as early as possible, and usually, I can get relief within 2 days. 50 mg, 2-3 times a day. I do get lightheaded, and I notice my blood pressure goes up about 10 points."

For Gout, Acute "I have had acute attacks of gout in my right foot. So painful a sheet laying on my foot would be intolerable. If taken at the first sign of pain, and not letting it get full-blown, I can cut the cycle off quickly (1 day). I also have shoulder pain in both shoulders. If I take Indomethacin every 3-4 days or so (1 75 mg capsule), I can eliminate this pain as well. Light-headedness for about 8 hours is sometimes a side effect, but nothing more."

For Ankylosing Spondylitis "This is the NSAID of choice for ankylosing spondylitis. The mechanism of action is suited to how AS affects our body. When I take indomethacin, my pain and inflammation go away 100%. This is the only drug you need for AS, in my opinion. Most doctors suggest continuous use over on-demand use in order to stop the disease from progressing, but I believe this NSAID is particularly strong and should not be used for more than 10 days at a time to avoid any side effects. In order to limit use, it is hypothesized that AS is caused by a bacteria called Klebsiella pneumoniae, and this feeds off of undigested starch. Find this article on the internet: 'The Link between Ankylosing Spondylitis, Crohn's Disease, Klebsiella, and Starch Consumption.' Therefore, a starch-free diet should provide relief if followed religiously. Sometimes I will have cheat days, so always keep indomethacin in the cupboard for those days. So to summarize, a great medication for AS, and the only one you will need to take occasionally if following a starch-free diet."

For Gout, Acute "I am 61 years old, and never had an attack of gout until this past week. After 2 days, the pain was so bad I went to the doctor and was prescribed indomethacin. I take 3 50 mg a day with food, and pain has somewhat subsided. I still limp and cannot put on my shoes. At least I can sleep. No bad side effects. I think I waited too long before taking this medication. I hope I never need it again, but I am happy I now know about it."
