"I used gabapentin before I had fusion in my neck. The pain had radiated down my left side of my arm, shoulder, elbow, clear down to my hand. I started using gabapentin and eventually got up to 2700 mg per day for 4 1/2 months until surgery. Solved the problem. Gradually got off the gabapentin but had hot flashes and chills for days and days. Still having them after being off of gabapentin for a week. Medication worked well for pain, but it has terrible side effects to get off of it. Don’t let anyone tell you there are no withdrawal symptoms because there are, at least for me. Just so you know, I am a very healthy 70-year-old female with no other medical problems and no problems getting around!"

"I heard a lot of great things about how gabapentin can really help reduce hot flashes/ night sweats. I have been suffering with horrible night sweats for 5 years. My doctor prescribed 300 mg before bedtime to start. It did help with the night sweats quite a bit - but still have one or two during the night, so the doctor said to increase the dosage to 600 mg per night. That helped a lot, but I started to experience horrible anxiety and terrible nightmares/ waking with anxiety. Plus, my vision was starting to become blurred, and after about three months of taking this drug, I developed a bald patch in the back of my hair. My doctor said that I could be in the 1% of people who experience these side effects. So, I am starting to wean off this medication altogether. But it makes me sad because it did actually work quite well for the night sweats. But the other side effects are just too risky."

"I have been taking gabapentin for a few years now for hot flashes, and it works great. But for the past month, I have been getting welts all over and swollen lips and around my eyes, wondering if it is due to gabapentin?"

"I've been taking 900 mg. Today, it seems to be helping. I've been hot flash-free for almost a month now, and I was having severe hot flashes. I would recommend trying it for allergies first and gradually working your way up because it does make you very tired. I only take 300 mg at a time."

"I'm glad this works for some people, but this drug put me in a real dark place, and I nearly died as a result. Withdrawal symptoms from stopping this medication without tapering off were terrible."
