For Asthma, Maintenance "Newly diagnosed with allergic asthma; I have no other meds to compare this to. That being said, I can safely say Wixela sucked. I only used it 3 times and quit. I got a strange tight sensation in my forehead after using it, but didn't link it to the med. The 3rd time I used the med, I started to get a burning sensation in my face that wouldn't go away, and I felt woozy and anxious. I woke up the next day with tingling skin and a couple of welts on my legs and ankles. I decided to never take the med again and stick to albuterol until the symptoms went away. I noticed the same sensations would come back every time I used a prescription fluticasone nasal spray, which I used to tolerate before this. I can't really recommend Wixela, even for someone who doesn't have Advair to compare it to. The way you breathe it in makes it hard to tell if you're getting a full dose or not. The powder seems too thick. The only pro is that I didn't use albuterol for those two days."

For Asthma, Maintenance "First of all, let me advise that if you are a young person, please be cautious of letting yourself be put on corticosteroid inhalers such as Symbicort and Advair. Once you have been on those inhalers, getting off of them is life-threatening. I never really believed that I had severe asthma but had been put on Advair many years ago. Recently, I was switched from Advair to Wixela as a generic replacement. After only two puffs of this, I began coughing. I researched Mylan Pharmaceuticals, and the reviews were very poor. I also read the reviews of people who had been switched to this generic, and people were really suffering. I told my doctor I would not take it. Her mistake was not looking into it to see why I was switched. If your doctor does not put on your prescription to give you only your name brand, the pharmacy will automatically switch you to the generic. But know that you do have the choice to ask not to be given a generic. People are suffering with this garbage medication."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Not any difference from Advair. The price for Wixela is almost the same as Advair-not enough to make a big difference. They both say they have generic versions, however, I do not know what the generic name is."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I was on Symbicort for years. Worked well, no problems. The VA switched me to Wixela. Horrible. My voice is so hoarse no one can understand me when I talk. Talked to VA when I saw other reviews from Vets saying how bad this medication is. The VA said that's what they are giving me. So I took it for a while, now I cannot talk. My wife messaged them again, they are putting me back on Symbicort. Bad medication."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Awful! Doesn't belong on the market. I am new to this condition of COPD maintenance, and I am short of breath. Symbicort wasn't quite enough. This was the replacement to give me an extra boost. I was back on the emergency inhaler 4-6 times a day within 36 hours. This instrument is a 30-supply, not! I started this on Oct 5 with 60 puffs; a dose of 2 puffs daily. October 19th, the counter reflected 17! 2 times 14 equals 28; 28 from 60 equals 32. What happened to the remaining 15 doses? Am I getting the correct dose, or is the counter defective? Also, the medication comes out in the form of small pellets that cause you to choke when they hit the back of your throat! Not for me!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "I was prescribed the Wixela Inhub for my asthma cough. After three uses, it has already stopped dispensing the medication. The doctor prescribed this particular one because of the lesser cost, but when it does not work, it is just wasted money, time, and I still have a cough that won't go away."

"Been using Symbicort for several years, VA in Columbia, MO. Replaced it with Wixela 250/50, noticed I would get short of breath a lot quicker, and didn't seem to help, been using my rescue inhaler more. Maybe if VA gets enough complaints, they will go back to Symbicort."

For Asthma, Maintenance "My husband has adult asthma. He’s been on Symbicort for a few years, Breo worked best for him, but the VA does not pay for Breo because it’s very expensive. Symbicort worked fine. Now the VA has switched to Wixela, and my husband can’t do any activities without getting so short of breath. He has mucus draining all the time and that dry, hacking cough all day, and his sleep apnea is worse. His doctor contacted the VA to switch him back to Symbicort, but the VA would not because they said it was stronger than Symbicort. Wixela is worse than taking nothing at all. We are now getting his better inhaler through Kroger pharmacy and paying out of pocket, and he is doing better even after just a few days."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Well, I have had asthma for 30 years, and these desk jockeys at the insurance companies keep switching me. The Advair commercial says never switch without a doctor's permission, and they just switch me. Went to an online Canadian pharmacy, but shipping takes a month, so I guess I'll contemplate the greatness of the USA while I slowly suffocate. Thank you, Health Plan of Nevada. Thank you, Wixela. I was enjoying a normal existence when I was on Advair. Now I'm a little dizzy, please excuse me."

For Asthma, Maintenance "VA put me on the Wixela Inhub, and just like many other people's reports, it does not work well. Part of the problem may be that you have to inhale hard, likely causing a Venturi effect in which the powder flows through an open to constricted pipe, in this case, my lungs. Please remove this product. It is not effective. I used Symbicort for many years with no problems. Now I am taking 5 - 10 mg of Prednisone, which I don't like. I typically lead an active life to the degree that I can, and using the Wixela Hub has hindered my well-being."

"Was using Symbicort as prescribed by VA for COPD, and it worked great. When that ran out, I reordered and received Wixela. It does not work as I would like it to. In fact, I question if it is working at all. Wixela relies on your lung function to draw the powder into your lungs. Most times, I can feel the powder on the back of my tongue. Not sure how much gets to where it should be. After use, I sit and wait to breathe easy. With Symbicort, I could feel the results right away. Going to talk to my PCP and request to change back."

For Asthma, Maintenance "VA took me off of Symbicort, put me on Wixela. Immediately, breathing went bad. Gave it a month, it got worse. Now, three weeks later, I’m in the hospital, still in the hospital. I am mad at the VA, as it is not a good replacement for Symbicort. Do not do it."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I was switched by the VA from Symbicort to this Wixela. Within hours of taking it, I could feel a negative change in my breathing. It went from easy, smooth breaths to some feeling of labored breathing. Followed with becoming easily winded, couldn't work in my yard without multiple breaks. My heart rate would also increase, contributing to the need for a break. Sore throat and tongue sensitivity, also, I brush my teeth and rinse after each use. Why would you change something that works? I'm so frustrated with this."

For Asthma, Maintenance "VA is my health provider, and I have lung fibrosis, COPD, and emphysema. I was on Symbicort for many years. Then I placed a refill on the prescription, and it was Wixela. Had no idea VA discontinued Symbicort. Well, I used it one time and had the worst experience with it. My throat and tongue became very dry for 2 days. My chest became very tight and painful. A few days later, I began coughing nonstop, my ribs got sore. Now all I use is my rescue inhaler."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have severe emphysema and VA replaced Advair 500/50 with Wixela Inhub. After using it for 2 months, I got pneumonia and fungus. Breathing worsened. Admitted to the hospital for 5 days. Sustained more damage to my lungs. Now I require a wheelchair after 2 to 3 minutes of exertion."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Creek Nation quit carrying Dulera, so they switched me to Wixela. I really don't like this medication. I've never had thrush until I started taking this medication. It doesn't matter how many times or how well I wash my mouth/throat out because I get thrush at least once every single month. At one point, I had thrush so bad that I couldn't even swallow water without immense pain. I'd rather be off this medication and take my risks than deal with thrush every month. Even trying to inhale the powder is difficult; I have to hold my nose and take a sharp breath in to feel as though I get medication into my lungs."

For Asthma, Maintenance "My asthma was well controlled when I was using ADVAIR, now my health insurance company will only pay for the generic equivalent, WIXELA, and it is not working for me. I get raised blood pressure, headaches, congestion, tightness, and need to use my immediate action inhaler more often. I see comments where I'm not alone on this. There should be a law against insurance companies dictating to doctors what meds will and will not be used for patient care, they are not doctors!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "The VA has replaced Symbicort with Wixela. I had plenty of Symbicort on hand, so I did not open the Wixela until this morning. I'm going to see how things go for a week, especially after reading the reviews of Wixela on this site. I did call the VA and speak with a pharmacy tech to find out if they had any report of Wixela not controlling asthma; she denied hearing any issues with this medication. According to the patient instructions, you are to allow one week for Wixela to work, so I'll report back here in a week."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I am covered by VA at 90% disability. I've been using Symbicort for 2 years with no or little side effects or conflicts with other medications. Then - surprise! - the VA changes me over to Wixela Inhub. It is gritty and takes more than one mouth rinse to get it out of your mouth. Within 2 weeks, my BP is up to 190/95 average, headaches, diarrhea, and problems with my eyesight getting blurry. I went online and learned that Wixela should not be used by folks with hypertension, cardiovascular issues, and thyroid problems. I have all three, having had a heart attack two years ago, and my meds were keeping me stable until I started the Wixela. My COPD is worse than ever, and my rescue inhaler has been resurrected and in my pocket, along with my nitro. I've contacted my PCP at the VA, and he was unaware of the change by the 'bean counters' at VA Pharmacy Services. Symbicort is still being produced. It is readily apparent that the VA is out to save money at the expense of patients."

"I had a chronic phlegmy cough for 1 year and a half. I tried everything and went to two different lung specialists. I do not have asthma or any other respiratory illness, and no allergies after doing an allergy test. After a month of using once a day, my cough is completely gone! No side effects for me."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have always been on Advair with no problems. All of a sudden, my pharmacy has been dispensing Wixela in replacement of Advair. Wixela does not work for me. I have been hospitalized 2 times since beginning Wixela. I can't breathe easily, and what little bit it does do for me, it only lasts about 6 hours, whereas the Advair lasts me 12 full hours! I am very disappointed that my pharmacy will not change it back to Advair, even with a no substitution on the script. So here I struggle breathing while the pharmacy makes money off garbage like Wixela!"
