Fluoxetine for Major Depressive Disorder "I have been taking Prozac now for 4 years. I started out on 20 mg. After a few months, the doctor upped it to 40 mg. A few days ago, the Prozac was upped to 60 mg. Since being on the 60 mg, I have been feeling slightly nauseated. I'm hoping it will subside soon. Not sure why I never had difficulties on the 40 or 20 mg. Did I gain weight? Yes, but it was pretty much my fault as I ate all the wrong foods and never moved around much. I changed to whole foods, ditched the sugars and carbs, and have lost 40 pounds from July until now. I see people say don't take Prozac. My thoughts are that their experiences are not my experiences. Before the Prozac and Sertraline, I had very bad mood swings and lashed out at people. I also have major depression as well as PTSD. The Prozac has been keeping me from lashing out at others. I would much rather keep myself calmer than to attack others."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I have lived with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder for almost 3 decades. I was prescribed this wonderful pill to help me, and I adore it! My flow is now moderate to light for the first time since I started my cycle. I no longer have nausea-inducing back cramps, and my cycle has shortened from 6.5 days to 4.5 - 5 days. Even better, my irritability has decreased, and the Hulk no longer screams and runs from me in terror when I have my period. It is a relief to be free of uncontrollable irritability, awful cramps, heavy flow, and depression."

Fluoxetine for Anxiety and Stress "I only took 10 mg of Prozac for 2 weeks, and I had to get off. I was crying non-stop (literally for 16 hours straight), I was nauseous, disassociating, and dizzy. I was only on it for 2 weeks, and I still had withdrawals when I got off. I couldn’t stop shaking and had intense brain zaps. I’m surprised how many good reviews this medication has, but I guess it affects everyone differently. Just please be extremely careful and don’t be afraid to switch medications if you’re not feeling too right. Your body has to adjust to medication, but it’s not normal to feel that out of whack."

Fluoxetine for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I am taking Prozac to treat OCD and the anxiety that results from it. A little background: I took 50 mg Sertraline (Zoloft) five years ago for anxiety. It was a difficult ramp-up period. I had dry heaves, drenching night sweats, and no appetite. After about a month, they subsided, and I went up to 75 mg. Zoloft did fix my anxiety, but it left me 'flat.' I wasn’t anxious or sad, but I also never had any joy. It turned me into Mr. Spock. Oddly though, and contrary to so many reviews, my libido went through the roof. I came off Zoloft after about a year and was fine for about 4 years. Now, I’ve been diagnosed with OCD that the prior doc didn’t recognize. Prozac this time. I was nervous for the side effects, but they’ve been minor. Very mild nausea and some insomnia. And, just like Zoloft, increased libido. My OCD and anxiety are lessening. Don’t let negative reviews dissuade you from trying Prozac. Everyone reacts differently."

For Hot Flashes "I'm in menopause, so was having hot flushes, low mood, etc. I've tried four lots of HRT, all made me have heavy prolonged bleeding, so Prozac was my last hope. It works. Hot flushes not nearly as bad, low mood gone. The other symptoms of menopause are still there but a lot easier to cope with now. I do have nausea in the morning after taking the pill, and it makes my IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) worse, but I can cope with that. Feel so, so much better."

Fluoxetine for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I recently started on Prozac for Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, OCD, and insomnia after cycling through a number of medications for several disorders. I tried trazodone at first for anxiety and insomnia, then added quetiapine when the trazodone didn’t work. Then I started using Imovane, which made me feel awful. My psychiatrist started me on 20 mg Prozac to improve anxious and obsessive thoughts and depression. It has significantly improved those, and I no longer feel the physical effects of anxiety or depression. It has also significantly improved sleep, as I do not stress about not being able to sleep. Finally, it did cause a few side effects like headache and nausea for the first few days, but it is now gone."

Fluoxetine for Panic Disorder "I was on Paxil 40mg for 13 years and gained 100 lbs! Thought I was better, so got off the Paxil. Three months later, had bad panic and anxiety. Dr. put me on Effexor 75mg...not good! Felt spacey, couldn't eat, lost 40 lbs in 3 months, went back to the Dr., and he had me switch right over to Fluoxetine 20mg. I am on my 5th day and already feel clear-headed! A little nausea throughout the day, but doing great! Really hope this med works."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I was prescribed fluoxetine for premenstrual dysphoric disorder. For the last 5 years, I took Remeron for depression, which did nothing to help with PMDD. I gained 60 lbs within a 3-month period of being on it. Well, 2 months ago, my doctor switched me to 10 mg fluoxetine. The side effects were a nightmare for the first two weeks: excessive drowsiness, nausea, increased anxiety, especially in the morning, diarrhea, completely lost my appetite. Well, I'm glad I hung in there because the side effects went away, my mood improved tremendously, and on top of that, I lost 20 lbs in the first 1.5 months. My appetite has improved. Very happy about the weight loss, but I feel that 20 mg would be a little more effective in treating PMDD symptoms. Overall, it's great."

Fluoxetine for Depression "Went on Prozac for anxiety. I had horrible side effects, couldn’t eat, I was so nauseous, headachy, tired. It wasn’t doing much for me, so I missed a day or two, then would take one, and that was a big mistake. It completely sent me downhill. Out of absolutely nowhere, I was crying every second of the day, having suicidal thoughts. It took 2 weeks to be somewhat back to normal, but after that, I never got any better. Prozac made me feel suicidal and gave me depression that I didn’t have before. 2 months off of it, I still feel the same. It seriously messed up my head. My brother took it and also became suicidal out of nowhere. DO NOT TAKE."

For Anxiety and Stress "Suffered from anxiety for many years, mostly social anxiety that resulted in panic attacks. Tried therapy, breathing techniques, relaxing workouts, eating healthy. I really wanted to avoid medication at all costs. I was repeatedly missing work due to the fatigue of stress and decided to take my doctor's advice. At this time, my immune system was poor, my skin was horrible, and my whole body ached. I started Prozac 20 mg once a day and have been taking it for 60 days. I did not have any bad reactions or nausea. My mood is significantly better, my skin is better, I am performing well at work, I feel happy to communicate with others, and I do not have panic attacks anymore (a daily happening before). I feel so much better!"

For Anxiety and Stress "I am now 5 weeks and 3 days into Prozac. The first 2 weeks were fine. I actually started feeling a little happier by the end of week 2. Now weeks 3-4 were absolutely terrible. I went to the ER thrice. Headaches, horrible night sweats, shaking, weakness, nausea, bloating, insomnia, obsessive thoughts, ruminating, and feeling unwell. Excruciating anxiety, and I'm used to having anxiety on a daily basis. I would have panic attacks repeatedly. I called my doctor many times. She reassured me it would get better and to take hydroxyzine HCl. I had to take at least 25 mg every 4 hours, otherwise, I would start to get chest tightness, hot, sweating, pounding heart, etc. As soon as week 5 began, I feel better every day. Today was the first day I didn't stay on hydroxyzine HCl. I feel happier, motivated, not as irritable, loving, patient. I still have random headaches, shaking, weird dreams. From someone who had ALL the crappy side effects, keeeeep goinggg! Best of luck!"

For Anxiety and Stress "I avoided taking these drugs for 7 months. I really hoped I could fix my anxiety and constant stress by myself. I tried everything from herbal relaxation tea to meditation and talking to the best psychologist. I wish I had tried Prozac (20mg) earlier because it has helped me get rid of the anxiety. I feel energetic and happy again. I didn't gain any weight, I just felt a little nauseous in the first week."

Fluoxetine for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I have been on 20 mg of Prozac for about 3 months now. It has really worked for me. I don't have suicidal thoughts anymore and overall feel more functional. I was very anti-psychiatric drugs before taking them myself, but it has really worked in a way that nothing else has. I took 5-HTP, GABA, and tryptophan before the Prozac, and these all helped a lot, but I still felt extremely depressed around my menstrual cycle. Prozac has stopped that. Side effects are that I get hot more easily, sometimes have nausea, and trouble staying asleep through the whole night, but they are completely worth it to me."

Fluoxetine for Anxiety and Stress "So I have always suffered from anxiety, and I went to therapy for a while, and my therapist suggested seeing a mental health nurse practitioner who can maybe set me up with something. She referred me to the doctor who prescribed me Prozac, and it's been working great! I've been on it for about a month now. The first two weeks were a little rough, I was feeling more depressed and experienced a loss of appetite and even threw up a couple of times (though I'm not sure if that was the medicine or if I caught a stomach bug). However, at about the third week, I started feeling great! I was much happier and more engaged at work. I've been feeling so good, I'm starting to think I may have had depression. My only complaint is my sex drive is totally gone."

Fluoxetine for Anxiety and Stress "Been on Prozac for nearly a month now. Anxiety is worse, nausea, and I generally feel like rubbish. We will see, I suppose, in a few weeks if there is a difference in my anxiety. But you better be prepared for side effects when starting this drug."

Fluoxetine for Anxiety and Stress "This medicine really seems to help me a bit, I don't much have an appetite (but I never did anyway). It calmed me down enough to think. I've been on it for almost a week, and for a few days, my terrible nightmares stopped, but now my dreams are back, but they're just weird now. I had nausea for the first 4 days, now that's gone. This medicine has some good qualities, but for me, 4 days after starting to take it, I developed a rash on my neck in reaction to the medicine. Don't let that scare you, though. Only 7% of people will have this effect, according to a couple of articles I've read about it. Anti-itch cream keeps it from bothering me, but I'm planning to switch to Celexa soon."

For Anxiety and Stress "I recently started feeling what exactly anxiety means. I went to see my GP 3 days ago, and that day was the worst day of my life in terms of anxiety level. I was thinking that I would die. I've been prescribed 20 mg fluoxetine. Today is my 3rd day of taking it. The last 2 days were a total hell for me. The level of anxiety went very high. I experienced all side effects like insomnia, negative thoughts, nausea, lightheadedness, so far. Thanks to all these comments, I stay hopeful."

Fluoxetine for Major Depressive Disorder "I have anxious depression, this came on suddenly earlier this year following a surgery. No one was sure why it hit me so badly. I was having very intense intrusive thoughts and feeling so low and hopeless. The first week, I took 10 mg and had mild nausea and a bad tummy. I then went up to 20 mg, and the nausea increased a lot, and I became very agitated and restless. My thoughts became worse for 3-4 days, and I didn’t feel safe to be on my own. I decided to power through, knowing that I needed to keep trying to feel better for my family. I am now on my 3rd week of taking the Prozac. I’m not better, but the side effects are easing off, and my thoughts have been a lot clearer the last 2-3 days. Yesterday, I even felt quite happy! I’m not sure what the future holds, and I can come back and report more, but for now, I’m pleased I’ve stuck on them and am hopeful they are already starting to help me."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I have been on this medication, fluoxetine, for a little over a month. I should’ve been on it sooner, but it sat in my kitchen cabinet for weeks after reading all of the bad reviews and side effects online. I wish I hadn’t done that and wish I had just started it because it has helped me so much. I started on 10 mg and increased my dosage to 20 mg after 3 weeks. I honestly started to feel better after a week and a half of taking it. Yes, the side effects suck. I had panic attacks, nausea, night sweats, headaches, but most of the side effects went away within 2 weeks. My psychiatrist put me on this medication because I have OCD, GAD, mild depression, and some phobias. I was terrified to take this medication because of the side effects, but I’m so glad I started taking it. It’s improved my life more than I ever thought it could!"

Fluoxetine for Panic Disorder "I took 10 mg of Prozac for 12 days. Days 1-9 were pretty good. I was nauseous and threw up a few times, but I expected that. Day 10, the first of the panic attacks hit. It lasted for 6 hours. 6 hours of uncontrollable crying, shaking, and vomiting. My doctor took me off the Prozac 2 days later. Today is 1 week without the Prozac, and I am still having intense panic attacks and vomiting almost all day, every day. I have no idea how long this will last, but it's ruining my life. I can't drive or take care of my children. My husband has had to take time off of work, and I've lost almost 10 pounds. Worst thing I ever did."

Fluoxetine for Anxiety and Stress "My daughter took 5 mg of Prozac for four days before deciding to stop using it due to horrific side effects. Day 1 was wonderful, no anxiety with just a slight headache. Day 2 brought on severe nausea so bad it was painful and the dark feelings of depression and crying uncontrollably (she previously had zero depression), along with a “static” feeling in her brain. The morning of Day 3, she woke feeling as if she was on fire, nausea, and nightmares (again, she had never previously had nightmares). Day 4 included all of the above topped with a panic attack. She stopped taking it. The last 5 mg dose she took was a Saturday night at 6 pm. We ended up in the ER on Monday due to waking up Monday morning with such an extreme panic attack that she was inconsolable and almost passing out. After 5 hours straight of this, we ended in the ER where they gave her a shot of Ativan to calm her. We were told the half-life is 1-3 days since she had only taken 4, so praying tomorrow is better."

Fluoxetine for Depression "I've tried a few antidepressants. Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Remeron... I've been on Prozac for nearly three months. I was prescribed 20 mg a day for the first month and told the doctor I didn't notice anything. She still kept me on 20 mg a day for the second month. Still nothing, but drowsiness was a problem (gone now). I've been on 30 mg a day for the past three weeks, and in the past week or so, I think something about me is different. I rarely have the suicidal thoughts I did before (I still do, though). I'm also normally really awkward, but now I feel natural when I say something, no shaky voice. I don't know how to explain what I'm feeling. The past week, I've been pretty nauseous, though. I usually eat a LOT, though, so I don't mind it."

For Anxiety and Stress "I have been on Fluoxetine for about 2 weeks. I directly switched from Citalopram as it wasn't working after more than 1 year. The first 3 days on Fluoxetine were quite brutal, but I'm not sure if this was side effects of the new drug or withdrawals from the old drug. EXTREME tiredness and nausea, no appetite. I never felt so tired that I couldn't do anything. After 3 days, I decided to take Fluoxetine in the evening and take it every other day instead of every day... and wow!! I feel great and so energetic. No further symptoms and no worrying. So far, so good!"

Fluoxetine for Anxiety and Stress "I've been on Prozac 20 mg for 3 months now and feel agitated, like a knot in my stomach. I did have dizziness, lightheadedness, and nausea, but I found a way to cope till they went away. Overall, I'd rather have a knot in my stomach than the anxiety."

Fluoxetine for Depression "Started this medication on Thursday last week, it is now Tuesday. Have been feeling myself again, really happy, and actually laughing at little things that I hadn’t been weeks ago. Also suffer from anxiety and have felt that I have felt really calm over the past few days and haven’t been worried. Have been finding it a little hard to switch off at night, but the pharmacist said it could interfere with sleep, that will pass. Also, today (day 5) I have been feeling quite nauseous and that I don’t have much of an appetite when usually I eat a lot and always feel hungry. I can only put it down to the tablets. I was warned these could be some symptoms, so I will push through and hopefully, they stay working well for me and the sickness and sleeping improves."
