For GERD "Took one chewable tablet of Pepcid Complete for my GERD. It helped with the stomach acid, but about two hours later, I had strong intestinal cramping and diarrhea, which thankfully lasted only about a half hour afterward."

For Stomach Ulcer "I also have other digestive problems like I can't burp or pass wind on my own. I produce a lot of gas, have heartburn, sour stomach, and bloating. This medicine was not the first, but it works for all these and more. Better than the name brands. I take 20 mg per day and have for over 25 years, and it hasn't stopped doing the job."

For GERD "I was prescribed famotidine to help with my GERD and excess acid. The first day was fine, but the next day was horrible. I had anxiety, cough, muscle spasms in my legs and foot, and my blood pressure went through the roof. It shot up to 188/108! I stopped taking it and will go back to Protonix until I can see my GI doc. Really disappointing because it did help my GERD."

For Stomach Ulcer "This med really aggravated my IBS, and I certainly wouldn't recommend that anyone with this condition take it. I experienced terrible bloating and severe gas pains (like IBS on steroids) and eventually diarrhea. Was told by doc to use this for a suspected large ulcer and possible herniation, and ultimately, it didn't help much at all with that. Can't get in to see a gastroenterologist until September, but in the meantime, no way will I use this again! Also, since I have had issues with diverticulitis as well, can't chance this awful drug again."

For Urticaria "I have been diagnosed with chronic hives since 2011. I was prescribed a slew of different meds, from prednisone to chemo drugs. Prednisone helped, but is dangerous to be on long term. My allergist tried a combo of Pepcid (famotidine) and Xyzal (levocetirizine), and it has made all the difference. I have been hive-free for 8 years. I have no side effects or other issues from being on the famotidine long term. My insurance covers it, and I get it from Walmart for $1.97 for a 30-day supply."

For Peptic Ulcer "Reading these reviews is almost hard to believe. Could famotidine really be that bad? I'm a doubter and a contrarian, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Wow. It really is that bad. My stomach problem only got worse. And the biggest concern were the mental changes it undoubtedly caused. I'm generally very positive and somewhat carefree, and that changed within three days of starting famotidine. I'm 54 years old and have never felt so down. Into the toilet the rest of the pills went, and I was back to normal the next day. Be very cautious with this drug."

For Peptic Ulcer "Started taking this for a month, 40 mg twice a day for gastritis. Noticed a lot of anxiety after taking it. Plus hallucinations, dizziness, feeling tired. Plus shoulder joints and back hurts. Had heart palpitations. Having hot flashes also. I've cut it down to when I need it. I pretty much feel back to normal again. Med works, just not worth the side effects. PPIs mess with your absorption of food. You don't get all your nutrients. I think it's messed up my gut. Diarrhea more than usual. Wish I never started it."

For Indigestion "Famotidine is not the most effective thing I've taken for heartburn (Prevacid is awesome but gives me headaches), but it's helpful for cases where Rolaids and Pepto-Bismol don't give me relief. I feel just a bit off when I take it, but I'd rather feel out of it for a few hours instead of suffering through wicked heartburn."

For GERD "I used to take famotidine 20 mg 2 x daily, and it did the job. Now I need it every 5 to 6 hrs for relief. So I decided to use Pepto-Bismol yesterday morning at 8, and it worked very well and lasted until about 9 pm. Then I took a Pepcid that night, but it doesn't work for me like it used to."

For GERD "Please do not take this drug. My son was on ranitidine for years with no side effects, but when they took it off the market, they prescribed famotidine. Right away, I noticed my son was not sleeping at night, it was like he was wired for days. He was up, irritable, and moaning a lot, and at night, he would wake up throwing up so bad and would have trouble breathing. After this happened for a few nights, I realized it was probably the medication, so I stopped giving him it, and by the second night, he finally was sleeping through the night without waking up throwing up. He also has had several dilations of his throat, and when he was on famotidine, he developed lumps in his throat, and I told his gastrointestinal doctor I think it is from the famotidine, and he said probably not. So the next dilation was 3 months later, and I was not giving him the famotidine, and guess what? The lumps miraculously disappeared. He also is diabetic, and it was affecting his insulin."

For Indigestion "Just wanted to share my experience. I took 20 mg of famotidine to help with heartburn from long Covid and possible side effects from Losartan. I took the pill around noon, and it knocked me out cold. I woke up from terrible nightmares and felt like a bus hit me - out cold for over 8 hours later. Terrible flu-like symptoms, felt morose and depressed, and felt like a zombie. It took 5 hours to shake it off. What is in this? And it's OTC? Horrible drug. (from just one dose!) Beware of this garbage drug. Stay safe."

For GERD "Worst pills ever. They don't relieve my acid reflux, and they keep me up all night. It's like I'm on speed when I take them. I can't sit still and clean my house like a maniac when I'm on them. The crash the next morning is horrible, and my entire body aches. Switching back to Omeprazole. This stuff is garbage!"

Famotidine "It worked rather quickly for me. Within a 1/2 hour, I was feeling significantly better. I did, however, experience brief chest pain and tightness and a bit dizzy about 20 minutes after taking it. I've only taken one dose so far and hope that I'll be able to continue taking this as treatment for abdominal pain suspected of a peptic ulcer."

For GERD "Controls the acid in your stomach for GERD. If you are regurgitating a lot, this will definitely help painful regurgitation/reflux episodes. However, since starting this drug, I occasionally get panic attacks and get severe anxiety despite never having anxiety issues my entire life. You have to weigh the pros and cons."

For Urticaria "I have had stomach pain, uneasiness, and awful gurgling sounds in my belly for days. Diarrhea also. Just an overall unwell feeling after being on this for 3 days. My doctor put me on it to boost my Zyrtec and Allegra meds. I'm throwing them away tonight."

For Stomach Ulcer "The second day I started taking this medicine, it caused severe stomach pains. The pains were so bad that I almost went to the emergency room. I had severe stomach pains for 7 days. The pain would come on every day for 3 to 4 hours, very intensive pains. I stopped taking the medicine, and the pain ended. I was very glad to figure this out. I feel much better."

For GERD "Appears to be working quite well at 20 mg/day, but I've been using this for only a few days. No more GERD symptoms and no other issues. Not clear for how long this is safe to be taking. My wife (an MD) is keeping track of things (she didn't prescribe it, that was a gastroenterologist)."

For Indigestion "Like many of the users on this site, I have found that when CVS required me to use this pill manufactured by Aurobindo Pharma Limited from my prior manufacturer used by Rite Aid (little brown discs), that the Aurobindo product does NOT work, even in the 40 mg pill (designed in a white square with rounded edges with 'CC' on one side and '61' on the other side). It is my opinion that this product is a phony and should be avoided."

Famotidine "For 2 years, I would break out with these very painful and itchy bumps. That would start on my forearms, then it would go to my stomach, back, and legs. I tried everything from changing laundry soap, bath soap, etc. Then I finally had enough and went to the doctor, and she told me to try Pepcid Maximum Strength. Being a Pharmacy Tech, I am thinking this doctor is crazy, not once in school did I learn that Pepcid treats hives. Well, I can honestly say I was wrong. I have been taking Pepcid and Claritin twice a day for a month with no breakouts."

For GERD "Took it for COVID nausea/GERD and felt super drowsy 30 min. after taking it. Then anxious and paranoid for the rest of the night. My stomach was super bloated with tons of gas and pains more than without it. I've had diarrhea this morning, cried, and had a heart palp. My son took some last night as well and burped so much. Even though the half-life says 2-3 hours, I definitely believe that the side effects last longer. Drinking lots of water to get this crap out of my system. This stuff should be discontinued. Our pedi even said there were no side effects with this... everything has a side effect. Was $20 too."

For GERD "I was prescribed 20+20 mg for GERD. The first few days appeared great, considerably lessened symptoms, but on day 2 came the runs. Like a sudden need for the toilet, and then the worst diarrhea you can imagine. My GP recommended continuing with the medication as typically the diarrhea might go away, but it didn't. Then started the headache, a throbbing nightmarish pain, and with GERD, it's not like you want to take pain relievers for your already inflamed esophagus... do put up with it. And finally, after a few more days, a nausea. Constant feeling like you're going to throw up. That's it for me, swapping one symptom for three! I preferred the GERD!"

For Stomach Ulcer "Apparently, many others on this thread have not had a phone dialed to 911 in one hand and screaming in nightmarish pain. This came out of nowhere at age 42, 6 months after stopping smoking. Now I ended up with this bad stomach pain. No previous issues ever. Long story short, if it wasn't for Dollar General brand (specific and exact) famotidine 20 mg white pill, I would still be in pain. However, because of lawyers on TV, in November of 2020, D.G. began to pull all of this miracle med from their shelves, and I was in a panic. They slowly put it back, but it's not quite the same, and now I suffer. Can't work for the pain."

For GERD "I started taking this medication 3 days ago, and I’ve had really bad side effects. I’ve had diarrhea, headaches, anxiety right after I take it, and joint pain, especially in my arm and my back. My doctor said I had to continue taking this medication, as it has been helping with my stomach acid, but it takes me a while to not feel the side effects of this medication."

For GERD "I started this medication in the midst of a severe acid reflux flare-up after a very stressful event sent it off the rails. I was prescribed this in an emergency room when I couldn’t get in to see my family doctor. I took it for around 9 days, I believe. I noticed no difference in my reflux. I took this with Prevacid, which had stopped working for me. Now, I have severe anxiety. I have panic disorder and PTSD. I noticed around day 7 or 8 that something felt a bit off; my anxiety was more on edge. I was and am still under a lot of stress from the reflux flare, so that may be entirely unrelated to the drug, but it’s worth mentioning. I did realize after coming off of the famotidine that it absolutely made me a bit dizzy; it was very subtle and only really noticeable when it was gone. Not my cup of tea, but worth a shot to see if it works for you. With insurance and a prescription, a month’s supply of 60 pills (20mg) was just under $10, so it’s very affordable to manage reflux."

For GERD "Diagnosed with GERD a few years ago. Also mild gastritis after gastroscopy. Started with omeprazole but switched to lansoprazole due to side effects. I have had a few flare-ups in the past but recently got a bad one. GP gave me famotidine 2xD. Within hours of taking the first dose (20mg), I started to feel sore in my lower back. After the second dose, I was having sharp intermittent (every 1-5 minutes, lasting just seconds) sharp pains in my mid-back. Maybe it is a coincidence, but reading the comments here, it sounds like side effects can be quick to appear. Anyway, I have stopped taking it. It's been about 30 hours since the last dose, but I still have the sharp pains. Anxiously waiting to see if the effect will subside or if it is something else to worry about."
