For GERD "Please do not take this drug. My son was on Ranitidine for years with no side effects but when they took it off the market- they prescribed Famotidine. Right away I noticed me son was not sleeping at night, it was like he was wired for days. He was up and irritable and moaning a lot and at night he would wake up throwing up so bad and would have trouble breathing. After this happening for a few nights I realized it was probably the medication so I stopped giving him it and by the second night he finally was sleeping through the night without waking up throwing up. He also has had several dilation of his throat and when he was on famotidine he developed lumps in his throat and I told his Gastrointestinal doctor I think it is from the famotidine and he said probably not. So the next dilation was 3 months later and I was not giving him the famotidine and guess what the lumps miraculously disappeared. He also is diabetic and it was affecting his insulin."

For Peptic Ulcer "Reading these reviews are almost hard to believe. Could Famotidine really be that bad? I'm a doubter & a contrarian, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Wow. It really is that bad. My stomach problem only got worse. And the biggest concern were the mental changes it undoubtably caused. I'm generally very positive & somewhat care free, and that changed within 3 days of starting Famotidine. I'm 54 years old & have never felt so down. Into the toilet the rest of the pills went and I was back to normal the next day. Be very cautious with this drug."

For GERD "I have been taking Famotidine for 2 weeks now as a subsitute for Cimetidine which out of supply at the moment. This med is really good for the interstitial cystitis in my bladder and doubles up to reduce GERD too. Taking 2mg twice per day. No other side effects."

For GERD "Controls the acid in your stomach for GERD. If you are regurgitating a lot this will definitely help painful regurgitation/reflux episodes. However, since starting this drug I occasionally get panic attacks and get severe anxiety despite never having anxiety issues my entire life. You have to weigh the pros and cons."

Pepcid AC Chewable Tablets (famotidine) "It worked rather quickly for me. Within a 1/2 hour I was feeling significantly better. I did however experience brief chest pain and tightness and a bit dizzy about 20 minutes after taking it. I've only taken one dose so far and hope that I'll be able to continue taking this as treatment for abdominal pain suspect of a peptic ulcer."

For Stomach Ulcer "The second day I starting taking this medicine it caused severe stomach pains. The pains were so bad that I almost went to the emergency room. I had severe stomach pains for 7 days. The pain would come on every day for 3 to 4 hours very intensive pains. I stopped taking the medicine and the pain ended. I was very glad to figure this out. I feel much better."

For Urticaria "I have been diagnosed with chronic hives since 2011. I was prescribed a slew of different meds from prednisone to chemo drugs. Prednisone helped but is dangerous to be on long term. My allergist tried a combo of Pepcid (Famotidine) and Xyzal (Levoceterizine) and it has made all the difference. I have been hive free for 8 years I have no side effects or other issues from being on the famotidine long-term. My insurance covers and I get from walmart $1.97 for a 30 day supply."

For GERD "I was prescribed famotidine 20 by my ENT doctor at bedtime. Went In with sinus issues and he went down my nose/throat and notice severe acid reflux which is odd because I rarely get heartburn. Been taking it for a week and noticing odd things. I will discontinue it tonight to see if the side effects go away. I started burping a lot and would wake up nauseous. Breathing sometimes is off. and felt like I have a chest gas bubble that won’t come out and I have been taking gas-x. The chest discomfort made my anxiety worse some days. At first, I was happy with this medication because it helped me sleep and stopped my dry cough at night but a lot of these issues started after taking it. When I burp it does relieve the pressure but then comes back later on and today started randomly feeling leg pain. I’m hoping after I stop the issues will subside. Otherwise, it’s another issue."

For GERD "Took it for COVID nausea/GERD and felt super drowsy 30 min. after taking it. Then anxious and paranoid for the rest of the night. My stomach was super bloated with tons of gas and pains more than without it. I've had diarrhea this morning, cried, and had a heart palp. My son took some last night as well and burped so much. Even though the half-life says 2-3 hours, I definitely believe that the side effects last longer. Drinking lots of water to get this crap out of my system. This stuff should be discontinued. Our Pedi even said there was no side effects with this.... everything has a side effect. Was $20 too."

For Peptic Ulcer "My gastroenterologist put me on 40mg, twice per day, for six weeks for my peptic ulcer. I tested negative for h.pylori. My PCP had had me on Nexium which I ended up being allergic to. Horrible headache, fatigue, hives, major bowel issues, and nausea. Famoridine has changed my life. After two doses I felt better than I had in nearly one year. I had zero side effects which made it easier for me to stay on the 6 week plan. After my six weeks I will remain on it as needed."

For GERD "I stared taking this medication 3 days ago and I’ve had really bad side effects. I’ve had diarrhea, headaches, anxiety right after I take it, and joint pain especially on my arm and my back. My dr said I had to continue taking this medication as it has been helping with my stomach acid but it takes me a while to not feel the side effects of this medication."

For GERD "I was prescribed Famotidine for my stomach issues. I took this medication for a couple of weeks and it seemed to help stomach issues however I had severe twitching and cramps in my right leg for three days so I stopped taking famotidine. Recently my stomach started to play up, went to the doctor and was prescribed another H2 Receptor medication but it was not in stock, and had to take famotidine. I took 40mg at night for 3 nights and was fine however on the third night I started to feel high levels of anxiety, had a strange feeling in my head, and had insomnia. I won't be continuing to take this medication anymore."

For Allergic Urticaria "I have a lot of allergies, grass, trees, outdoor mould, both kinds of dust mites, but the really bad ones are cold uticaria (hives when my skin gets cold) and food allergy to cashews and walnuts. I just went through an accidental exposure to cashews in my Asian Sesame Salad 2 days ago (who puts cashews in a sesame salad!). While I still experienced a lot of stomach pain.... I did not get hives down my throat with swelling, no throwing up for hours and no real gastric issues other than pain for a few hours. No EPIPEN used! I did add benadryl as soon as the pain occurred and I discovered what I had done... But Famotidine is a game changer for me! My allergies are better and no more hives all winter! As well as the best ever response to accidental exposure to Cashews! And the prescription generic is so darn cheap..."

For GERD "I've been taking this for IDK how long. Probably since ranitidine has been taken off the shelves. But I've been clean off meth for almost 4 YEARS.! Went and did a drug test for a possible new job only to test positive for meth and thats the only thing I've been taking. Thankfully was told oral drug tests aren't very accurate so had to do a urine test instead. But will not be taking Famotidine any longer. It didn't even help my acid reflux. Kept taking it because I thought it was from the stuff I've been eating"

For GERD "Worst pills ever. They don't relieve my acid reflux and they keep me up all night. It's like I'm on speed when I take them. I can't sit still and clean my house like a maniac when I'm on them. The crash the next morning is horrible and my entire body aches. Switching back to Omeprazole. This stuff is garbage!"

For GERD "I've been on famotidine for about 3 months & was advised by my doctor to taper down and stop taking omeprazole for GERD symptoms. Famotidine does absolutely nothing, though, and while I can get by with only taking omeprazole every other day, if I try to go any longer than that without taking omeprazole, the reflux symptoms kick back in worse than they were before. We're talking, "gets heartburn even from milk" without the omeprazole. I'm sure famotidine works for some folks, but it does nothing to ease my symptoms."

For GERD "I was prescribed 20+20mg for GERD. At first few days appeared great, considerably lessened symptoms, but on day 2 came the runs. Like a sudden need for toilet, and then on the worst diarrhea you can imagine. My GP recommended to continue with medication as typically the diarrhea might go away, but it didn't. Then started the headache, a throbbing nightmarish pain , and with GERD it's not like you want to take pain relievers to your already inflamed esophagus..do put up with it. And finally after few more days a nausea. Constant feeling like you're going to throw up That's it for me, swapping one symptom to three! I preferred the GERD!"

For GERD "I started this medication in the midst of a severe acid reflux flare-up after a very stressful event sent it off the rails. I was prescribed this in an emergency room when I couldn’t get in to see my family doctor - I took it for around 9 days, I believe. I noticed no difference in my reflux. I took this with prevacid, which had stopped working for me. Now, I have severe anxiety. I have panic disorder and PTSD. I noticed around day 7 or 8 that something felt a bit off, my anxiety was more on edge. I was and am still under a lot of stress from the reflux flare, so that may be entirely unrelated to the drug but it’s worth mentioning. I did realize after coming off of the famotidine that it absolutely made me a bit dizzy; it was very subtle and only really noticeable when it was gone. Not my cup of tea but worth a shot to see if it works for you. With insurance & a prescription, a month’s supply of 60 pills (20mg) was just under $10 so it’s very affordable to manage reflux."

For Stomach Ulcer "Apparently many others on this thread have not had a phone dialed to 911 in one hand and screaming in nightmarish pain. This came out of nowhere at age 42, 6 months AFTER stopping smoking, now I ended up with this bad stomach pain. No previous issues EVER. Looonnggg story short, if it wasn't for Dollar General brand (specific and exact) famotidine 20mg white pill I would still be in pain. However, because of Lawyers on TV, in November of 2020 D.G. began to pull ALL of this miracle med from their shelves and I was in a panic. They slowly put it back, but its not quite the same and now I suffer. Can't work for the pain."

For GERD "Diagnosed with GERD a few years ago. Also mild gastritis after gastroscopy. Started with Omeprazole but switched to Lansoprazole due to side effects. I have had a few flare ups in the past but recently got a bad one. GP gave me Famotidine 2xD. Within hours of taking the first dose (20mg), I started to feel sore in lower back. After the second dose, I was having sharp intermittent (every 1-5 minutes, lasting just seconds) sharp pains in my mid back. Maybe it is a coincidence but reading the comments here, it sounds like side effects can be quick to appear. Anyway, I have stopped taking it. It's been about 30 hours since the last dose but I still have the sharp pains. Anxiously waiting to see if the effect will subside or if it is something else to worry about."

For GERD "2/3 of users here, rate ranitidine very poor, most rarely 1 of 10 in effectiveness for GERD. I have 95% worst acid generation according to my Gastero Dr. , using acid meter down my throat. I get near zero help from this drug, do not understand, why anybody thinks it replaced ranitidine. Rate 0."
