For Birth Control "I got the implant in Jan 2017. My period came, left for a few days, and then I started spotting (I guess that's what you would call it) for a whole month. I got it removed in March 2017, and I still have not stopped this spotting. It would stop for a day, or not even a few hours, and it's back, spotting. Before, I had no problem with the plumbing downstairs, but since I got this thing removed, it's hard for me to get things going and stay going. Like it really sucks. It's now been 2.5 weeks since I got it removed, and the spotting has yet to stop. I didn't recommend this to my worst enemy, it's just not worth it at all. I know it's just not for me...."

For Birth Control "I had to have my implant taken out. I had it put in 2 years ago, and since then, I have gained 40 lbs that I haven't been able to get rid of like I used to and have been agitated and moody. No one tells you the first 6-8 months you can't even have sex because you're constantly bleeding and spotting. It was good birth control, but the side effects are, in my book, not worth it. I also had hair loss and countless other side effects, which may not be linked to this, but since they have stopped after 2 weeks of having it out, I'm guessing that it was the implant. Strongly do NOT recommend! I also know someone else who had the Nexplanon, and she got pregnant and had a miscarriage while having the implant, she has since had it removed. I suggest you do too..."

For Birth Control "It's great birth control because your husband will never want to have sex with you when you are bleeding for 3 straight months. I had Nexplanon in for 3 months and bled the entire time. A romantic vacation was ruined along with countless pairs of underwear. I have never spent so much money in such a short time for tampons, pads, and panty liners in my life because I never knew what type of flow I was going to have besides a constant one. I'm 35 and never felt more like a teenager because of horrible spotting, breakouts, and no sex. I thought this would be a great alternative, but it has put a definite strain on my day-to-day life. Now I am back on birth control and still bleeding."

For Birth Control "I got Nexplanon after being on birth control pills. The insertion was uncomfortable, but only because of the numbing shot, actually putting it in just felt like tugging. I tried many different pills before this, and with all of them, I had irregular bleeding, mood swings, low sex drive, etc. Nexplanon seemed to only make things worse. I became depressed, had mood swings, I had absolutely no sex drive, headaches, and I gained 15 pounds (not sure if it was my lifestyle because I am a lifeguard and am always swimming). I also had bleeding and spotting for two and a half months until my doctor gave a birth control pill to control the bleeding, so now I'm just getting a double dose of hormones. I'm having it removed."

For Birth Control "About 6 months in, I began getting a little moody, but didn't think much of it. My periods have begun to get really heavy, and I never know when they are going to stop or start. Sometimes it will last 4 or 5 days, and sometimes I'll have my period for a month straight. My mood swings are absolutely terrible lately, and I've had some depression (I'm generally a very happy person). I have headaches regularly and have pregnancy symptoms all the time, such as sore breasts, spotting, bloating, and nausea. My boyfriend and I have barely been able to have sex because of the almost constant period, so no wonder you don't get pregnant! And my sex drive is much lower after getting it inserted."

For Birth Control "I have had this implant for 8 months now. I have had one normal period, my 2nd month. Since then, I spotted for months on end plus a period that starts very, very heavy (heavier than before I ever took any birth control). I have one week a month with no period, at best. It obviously sucks bleeding all the time. I might get it taken out. My doctor originally said it would take about 6 months to regulate in most people, some women don't have periods at all, etc. I guess I am not those women! I never got my period on my old pill, might be time to switch back to a crappy daily method. :("

For Birth Control "I got Nexplanon in January, and the doctor assured me the side effects would go away after 2-4 months. It's now September, and there's no end in sight. I have literally bled constantly (either on my period or heavy spotting) every single day for 8 months. Now I'm on my period, and it's lasted 2 weeks, and it just keeps going, so I'm getting the implant taken out. I'm fed up. I also got moderate daily headaches for the first 6 months, periods of acne off and on, and I've been more moody and depressed. Yes, it's great that I don't have to remember to take a pill every day. But I have to remember to wear a pad/tampon, and because of the moods and bleeding, I've only had sex a handful of times in the last 8 months. It's not worth it. I'm done."

For Birth Control "My experience was horrid. I got the Implanon as an 18-year-old, it made me moody. It made me break out with cysts. I got it in July of '12 and had it removed in December of '12. Not to mention, I gained back the weight I had lost the year prior. It was hell. But... my doctor convinced me to give it another shot, so I got it in May of '16 and had it removed today! When I was on it, I was moody, depressed, spotting for three months, not to mention gained the weight I lost while being off of it. I would recommend for you to do your research. If you're sensitive to hormones, it is not worth the money. My friend has the same thing, she has no symptoms and it's a breeze for her. For me, it made me into a grumpy Shrek. Therefore, I would never get the..."

For Birth Control "This has been the worst experience ever! I hate it so much! I've had it for almost three years. I was okay with it because of its effectiveness on not getting pregnant, but I used to have clear skin, and since I got it, I wake up with a new big pimple every single day! Now I have lots of scars! Have constant headaches and mood swings. I'm so ready to give up on this, without mentioning that my bleeding can last up to 3 weeks sometimes! And always spotting in between! Don't get it."

For Birth Control "I have a lot of the symptoms I am reading here. I bled for 6 months straight. Awful brown discharge. Mood swings, headaches, weight gain. I am 27, and my face, chest, and back have breakouts like a teenager. I was put on a second BC with estrogen, and it worked for the bleeding. But if I forgot to take it, the bleeding started again. The point of getting this implant was to not have to remember to take anything or risk pregnancy. I'm now only on the implant, and it seems to be working for the most part. I still spot here and there, but the acne is embarrassing. Proactiv doesn't work either. I'm considering having it removed and going back on my NuvaRing. I do not recommend this BC to anyone. Ever."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon inserted in December 2015, and I had to remove it a week ago in June 2016. I have tried a couple of different birth controls, and I have to say this was the worst one for me. I have gained 7 pounds in 6 months when I have not changed my diet at all. I was also getting random headaches and a lot of acne on my face, especially around my chin. I also started spotting a week after I put it in, and it did not stop until a week after I removed it."

For Birth Control "I hated this birth control. Yes, it was easy to use and effective (no pregnancies), but I bled or spotted three weeks out of the month for the two years I had the Nexplanon. Sex life suffered. I also think the Nexplanon caused more cystic acne on my face."

For Birth Control "I wanted to wait some time before I gave an initial review. I got the implant in April and will be getting it taken out this Saturday. I will start with getting it placed, it was very short. I was given a local anesthetic, and the nurse waited for about 15 minutes until it was completely numb. That was the easy part, I had no pain at all, just some soreness at the incision site along with bruising. A week later, my hell started. I was on my period for 2 weeks straight with very bad cramps and mood swings. In month two, I had sporadic spotting and full-blown periods, hair thinning. It also caused a lack of sex drive, and I started to have headaches every day. Yes, it prevented pregnancy, but to me, it isn't worth the side effects. This thing is the worst."

For Birth Control "I got my Nexplanon insert in December 2015. Five months later, and I wish I did not get it. I have crazy mood swings and get depressed for no reason. I have gained almost 10 pounds and work out 3-4 times a week. Although this form of contraceptive does its job of not getting you pregnant, I wish I researched more about the side effects. When I first got Nexplanon, I spotted for 2 months, and after that, I haven't had a period since the end of February. I do NOT recommend getting this insert!"

For Birth Control "I've had the implant in for 7 months. It is awful. My depression/anxiety has been all over the place. I started spotting after 6 weeks. I have been spotting/full-on bleeding ever since. I was told that only 10% of users have this problem, but the more I talk to the people I know, that's an extremely low percentage comparatively. I'm tired ALL THE TIME. I already have depression and anxiety, and this is most certainly not helping. I have endometriosis, so I need to be on birth control, but this just isn't worth it."

For Birth Control "I was recommended the Nexplanon after I was told I could no longer take the pill due to my history of blood clots. At first, I thought, 'Yay, I can just have it in my arm and forget about it!' Man, was I wrong! My insertion was in August 2015. I weighed 184 lbs after having my daughter, and I weigh 226 now. I had constant mood swings, feelings of depression, brain fog, constant fatigue, super bad acne, and I spotted ALL the time. I don't recommend this to anyone. I never had acne like this before now. I have always struggled with my weight, but I was so fatigued all the time I had no motivation to get up and exercise. I ate pretty healthy, but it didn't matter. Just getting up and going to work was a struggle. I just had it removed today!"

For Birth Control "I got this implant shortly after my c-section. My periods have been so irregular, and I spot for months. I got it in January 2013. Today, May 4, 2016, I began my period a couple of days ago, and it's never been this heavy and clotted. I don't know if this is normal. I have to change my tampon every hour, it's a regular size tampon, but I feel lightheaded too. I don't know, but this implant has been not worth the mess. I'd rather just have it once a month for a week than deal with this!"

For Birth Control "I got this implant hoping it would be the best decision of my life. Instead, I think this is the most miserable I've ever been. I've been spotting for an entire month, and it looks like it's not stopping anytime soon. I called the doctor 2 weeks into the spotting, and they told me if it continued to call them the next week. I called them the next week, they brought me in to test for anemia. They found out I don't have it, and the doctor tells me they want me to wait until the 3-month adjustment period is over (May 25) before they decide to give me medication. I get more and more frustrated every day. I don't know if it's worth waiting until May so I can get medication or if I should just get it out soon and be done with this."

For Birth Control "Lasted 7.5 months, started July 2015. First couple of months spotted every couple of days and spotty acne started. Period was normal for September, but then was non-stop for all four weeks of October. Serious acne formed into rough patches all over my face. My hair thinned out to maybe half thickness. Doctor said this is all still normal because it's the first time in 13 years I'm without a daily estrogen dose, so it's normal to have pregnancy-like symptoms. Normal period in November. Two-week period in December, skin improving after help from dermatologist. January I had three separate instances of facial abscesses! As in dime-sized open infections on my face! Also, my January period lasted for 6 weeks until I had it removed in February. Awful cramps too!"

For Birth Control "Absolutely blooming awful! Have had this terrible thing in since January 2015. I kept thinking, no, I'll keep it in, give it a chance! Well, with most of the year and 2 months it's been in my arm, I've spent most of that on my period! Weight gain, something awful. Mood swings, and my doctor told me that's not possible (a male doctor, with no offense meant). How does he know? Did he have trouble with his implant too? Lol, honestly, I wouldn't even recommend this to my worst enemy! No sex drive, and I either want to cry my eyes out or feel like I have no heart because I can't cry! Spotting is putting it mildly. I have had normal discharge to brown discharge, stomach pains, cramps, much worse than usual period pains which have always been bad. Blood clots!"

For Birth Control "My sister had the Implanon, and it worked. So I decided to get it, but they discontinued it. I've had Nexplanon for a year now. At first, it was constant bleeding, and I thought it would go away within a few months because I read that it took a while to adjust, but 5 months went past, and I was so done with it. My doctor told me that maybe if I tried to take the pill with it, that maybe that'll help it adjust to my body (I knew I would forget it some days), but now that my birth control prescription is up, I'm back to the same problem with spotting. Now I just figure to stop birth control altogether and go back to condoms. The only reason I went to birth control was because everybody was saying to be safe, but this is crazy! I have to be on 2 birth controls to adjust, my period isn't safe!"

For Birth Control "I have suffered from extremely heavy periods my whole life, along with PMDD. My husband and I are not planning on having children, and Nexplanon seemed like the best fit for us and also a way to help with the PMDD. I was told by my OB that my periods would most likely disappear, but it was possible there may be some spotting... Not a big deal, right? Welp, I had the implant for 10 months (FINALLY had it removed yesterday). My periods are consistently heavy, lasting 2 weeks to a month with clotting. By heavy, I mean leaking through super absorbent tampons doubled up with pads. My sex drive had dwindled down to nothing. I gained 30 lbs (while still working out Mon-Fri and watching my diet). My face broke out, I developed a rash on my hands....."

For Birth Control "Nexplanon had me very optimistic and hopeful at first. Nope! Not anymore. I've been bleeding heavily for about a month straight, and I've been spotting since the first week I got it! Do not get Nexplanon. It made my anxiety so, so, so much worse (so bad I was hospitalized for it). I'm getting it out next month, and I can't wait to feel like myself again!"
