For Birth Control "My experience with Nexplanon started out great, my periods stopped, and I was glad for that because I spent my early teenage years through high school with the worst periods. Once a year hit, my experience changed. It started out with spotting, then went into full-blown periods EVERY two weeks. It took me back to the bad days of high school. I am now on medication for the awful anxiety I have since going on this, also, the weight gain I have had has been awful as well. I am very active, and my weight won't budge. I called my doctor first thing this morning to make an appointment to get it removed this week, and I cannot wait to get it out. I do not recommend this birth control at all!!!!"

For Birth Control "The worst decision I’ve ever made was getting Nexplanon. I’ve had it for two and a half years, and the side effects are not worth it. Fatigue, dizzy spells, headaches, weakness, spotting, bleeding for weeks on end, and to top it all off, I gained ALL of my pregnancy weight back. I weigh as much as I did at 9 months pregnant. Normally, I can eat whatever I want and not gain a pound; I was always very thin, with the exception of pregnancy. My OB refused to remove the implant. The second time I asked her to remove it, I was begging her. She insisted I keep it in and told me to take birth control pills on top of the Nexplanon. I finally had enough and called Planned Parenthood to get it removed, and I am going to get it removed in two days. I’m incredibly excited to get this piece of junk out of my arm. Never again!"

For Birth Control "I don’t use both control pills, so seeing this at my gynecologist got me interested. I got it inserted 2 weeks after seeing the brochure. I made a big mistake by not doing proper research prior to the insertion. A year later after I got this in my arm, I continue to have periods twice a month and occasional spotting. My skin has changed for the worse, ever since I got this horrible birth control, I get bumpy skin and pimples. Mood swings are so bad too. Oh, three months after the insertion, I had no energy at all, just to get through a normal day was a task. My energy level is okay now. Please do some research before getting it. I’m going to get it removed ASAP."

For Birth Control "I would not recommend. I got the implant in December of 2016 and I was bleeding for a year straight. I was put on the pill while the implant was in me, but it didn’t help at all. My periods are so random. I have random spotting, and it’s so inconvenient. I’ve gained 35 lbs. I get random dizzy spells and just do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "Regret it! I've bled 5-6 days out of every week and gained nearly 20 pounds since getting Nexplanon 6 months ago. I have lost a ton of energy, motivation, and general desire to be productive. I feel like I've aged 7-8 years in the last 6 months. It's ridiculous. Don't ignore these reviews. I can't wait to get it removed! Constant weird spotting and cramps. No wonder women don't get pregnant. On this, your sex life falls flat...always dealing with a discharge and crappy mood swings, feeling heavy and depressed, etc. Don't do it. You'll regret it!"

For Birth Control "If I could give this birth control negative ratings, I would. Worst birth control I’ve ever been on. It does the job of preventing pregnancy, but with the outrageous side effects, it’s just not worth it. I get headaches every single day. My sex drive is nonexistent, when I do try to have sex, it is painful. I’m VERY moody. I started to get acne on my face as well as on my back. I have daily spotting. No “real” periods. I’ve gained 40 pounds on Nexplanon. I’ve had this in me for 2 years and cannot wait to get this thing out of me."

For Birth Control "If I could give this a negative star rating, I would. It is technically “effective” because I did not get pregnant, but the side effects far outweigh the benefit. I have never felt so depressed, out of control of my moods, and so exhausted in my life. Increased headaches, spotting for 3-4 weeks straight, the list goes on. I can’t believe the immediate difference I felt when I had it removed. Even my significant other said I was a different person immediately after removal. I finally feel like myself again after two years. I would not recommend this form of birth control to anyone."

For Birth Control "This was absolutely magical for the first 6 months, then absolute hell for 3. When I first got it, I got my period for 9 days and then rarely had spotting for the next six months. Then the hell started - I had my period for TWO straight months, my acne started going crazy, I gained 10 pounds when I had been the same weight for the previous 10 years, AND I started lactating for some reason. I almost pulled the thing out of my arm myself, but waited for my gyno to take it out. Don't let your gyno convince you to start Nexplanon. It's the worst decision I have ever made."

For Birth Control "Ok, so it's been about a month since I got the Nexplanon. I read the reviews prior to insertion but felt it was too late to back out. I was on the depo shot prior, which completely stopped my periods, but going in every 3 months was annoying. Now I want this thing taken out. I've never had acne since back in high school, which even then wasn't bad, but within a week, I got bad acne on my face, back, and chest! I started bleeding one night thinking it was a period, but it was just spotting, and I have been spotting nonstop since. It's been 6 days now, and spotting does not stop, might as well be a period. Can't wait to go back and get this removed. I don't want to go through what all these other women have gone through! Don't get this, stay away."

For Birth Control "I’m a 39-year-old female. All birth control devices always fail me, so I decided to give this a shot. I got the Nexplanon in September 2017. When I first got it, it was okay for about maybe two months. Now, NO SEX DRIVE, NO NOTHING, which is so annoying. I AM experiencing bad mood swings, constipation, nausea, all the time like I’m pregnant, headaches, spotting, breast tenderness, sick all the time. I would advise no one to get this. I know it’s different strokes for different folks, but it is not working for me. I wish I would’ve never gotten this. Now, I’m thinking of getting it removed and having a tubal ligation."

For Birth Control "Worse birth control ever. Had it implanted in June, and it is now mid-December, and I have been spotting since the day I got it. On and off bleeding from red to brown. My moods are horrible. I’m almost always in a bad mood and have NO sex drive. Talk about headaches too. I’m getting mine removed next week and am so happy. I do not recommend this birth control to anyone. Yeah, it stops pregnancy because you never had sex because you're always bleeding. Save yourself some time and do not get this, ladies."

For Birth Control "After taking the pill for 3 years, I had to switch to a new form of birth control. My gyno highly suggested I try Nexplanon, and I wish I never did. I had it for a little over a month, and I had so many side effects. I was nonstop spotting, had inflammation down there 3 different times, and the worst mood swings. I was constantly either extremely depressed or really angry. To the point where I truly feared I was going to hurt someone. I finally got it removed today, very quick but painful once the numbing goes away. I'm looking forward to being my normal self again. I would not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "Previously, I had been on birth control pills and was looking to try something that had multiple years of coverage. While I did like that it was a long-term contraception option, the side effects were unbearable, and I ended up having it removed after only one year. The main side effect that was bothersome was the daily spotting. The spotting ranged from a heavy period flow to a smaller, lighter flow. However, it was EVERY SINGLE DAY. I ended up having to wear a tampon or pad just to save my underwear. My OBGYN recommended multiple options to stop the spotting, however, nothing helped. Other side effects included a weight gain of 10 pounds and unexpected mood swings. I immediately felt 100% better after having it removed."

For Birth Control "I hate Nexplanon so much. After the first month of getting it, everything was fine, but I started my period. It was a semi-normal cycle for me, and it ended after nine days. Three days after it ended, I started spotting brown stuff. After a month of that, I went back to the doctor to see if they could do anything, and they gave me the pill to cancel out the spotting. After two weeks of taking the pill, I didn’t stop bleeding, so the doctor said to take two pills, and it finally stopped spotting. She said two days after you stop spotting, stop taking the pills, so I did. Then I got the heaviest period for seven days, bleeding through four super plus tampons throughout the day. I repeated the pill process and stopped, and my period came back heavier."

For Birth Control "I've been freaking out recently because I just don't understand what's going on down there or inside my body. I didn't have a period for about 6 months, but then early this year I experienced some random spotting. The following month I had a full-blown period, but then pinky-brown spotting that didn't stop for months. I was in and out of the doctors, insisting that there was something up, but I had several blood tests and a transvaginal ultrasound, and all was clear other than one harmless cyst on my ovary, which the technician said most women have month by month but never know. I get brown spotting for about a week after my period every month and pain after orgasming. I can only assume this is the implant now as all tests show nothing..."

For Birth Control "Getting this implant in was a huge mistake! I was spotting most of the month following my period. I can't waste so much money on pads! And the acne. Oh my goodness, my skin was ravaged. I broke out in HUGE cysts. Now that it's out, the cysts are gone, but I have deep pitted scars that are probably going to need laser treatments in order to get rid of. The only good thing is that you can just have it inserted and forget about it. I'm going to try the copper IUD next since it doesn't have any hormones."

For Birth Control "Here's the rundown of my experience with Nexplanon. Have had it a couple of months shy of a year. Month one - this is great, haven't had any side effects, can't even tell this thing is in my arm. Month 2 - k there's some spotting throughout the month, but I was warned that might be a side effect and didn't have my period the first month, still okay though. Every month after that - ok I've made several trips to Victoria's Secret/PINK spending hundreds of dollars because all my underwear have been ruined. If you think you have a safe day where you can wear cute panties, YOU DON'T. Pretty sure I'm gonna need a blood transfusion soon. My mood is fine one minute, the next I don't want to be touched, talked to, or even looked at. DON'T GET THIS."

For Birth Control "Nothing but trouble. The Nexplanon side effects caused constant spotting, made me so moody, and caused breakouts all over my face. These side effects did not subside after 9 months. The implantation was smooth, the removal was a whole different experience. 20 minutes of digging because the implant migrated to my muscle and went much deeper than subdermal. Kudos to those who had great experiences, mine, however, was the worst ever."

For Birth Control "I had 2 different Nexplanons in my arm through a 4-year period. This is why I regret ever getting the Nexplanon. 1.) It made me have awful acne. 2.) The hormonal changes made my hair thin and caused great hair loss. 3.) It made me a CRAZY BEEOTCH and very irrational. 4.) I would spot all the time. 5.) I had scars in my arm from getting the first one removed. 6.) Made me gain a lot of weight. 7.) Made me depressed. It's not worth it, at least for me."

For Birth Control "This was honestly the worst experience with birth control. It does its job and doesn't get you pregnant, but everything else is horrible! For starters, I am a diabetic, so healing does not work so well for me. The hole the Nexplanon first went into stayed open for a whole year to the point where I can see the actual Nexplanon rod in my arm and sometimes this ugly pimple-like bump from the rod trying to poke out. The side effects were also horrible, I would NOT stop spotting, I bled every day, and it is just gross. It even stopped my sex drive because I am so self-conscious because I just keep bleeding. So after 2 years of hell, I'm getting it out of my arm tomorrow and I am so excited."

For Birth Control "I've had the Nexplanon for 5 months now. I haven't stopped bleeding/spotting for the last 3 months. I've never had back acne, and now it's terrible! I can't even bear to put a tank top on, it's so embarrassing. You can pinch me and feel oil coming off my skin. It's horrible. My anxiety is off the charts. This was the worst thing I possibly could have gotten on. I should have stayed on the pill."

For Birth Control "I've only had the implant for 4 months and have booked an appointment in 3 weeks to get it removed. I've experienced weight gain, I feel so depressed, my mood swings are all over the place, I have no energy at all, almost constantly bleeding, although it's only spotting, and I haven't experienced a heavy period. I'd much rather just have a regular monthly period. Just counting down the days to get this removed, it didn't work for my body at all."

For Birth Control "Getting the implant put in wasn't bad, I hardly felt it, and it barely left a scar. I was hopeful. But getting adjusted was awful. I bled pretty consistently for two months and broke out with horrible acne on my chest and back. Then things settled down, and I would just get my period as normal with spotting after intercourse, which was annoying but manageable. Then around six months into having the implant, I had bleeding off and on again for over a month. Decided to get it taken out, and it was good I did because it had embedded into my tissue, and the nurse had to dig it out. Left a dime-size scar when it should have been more like a pinhead. REALLY unhappy with my experience. Would not recommend at all."

For Birth Control "I was 28-29 when I switched from the pill to Nexplanon. I don't have any other diagnosed conditions, and I was on no other medication. The insertion was forgettable. I made it 2 years through the 3-year life of the implant. The first year was great. But in the second year, I slowly started having longer periods, up to 21 days! Spotting or light periods more often than not. Then I developed moderate depression. After a year of misery and three clear instances of suicidal ideation, I finally put things together and went to have Nexplanon removed. My period became regular, and my emotional state became balanced within weeks. My new OB/GYN told me women my age typically don't respond well to progesterone-only BC and are more likely to suffer the side effects I did. Isn’t this medication marketed to women in their early to mid 30s? On one hand, as birth control, it was effective. On the other hand, my side effects became unbearable and decreased my quality of life. Do not recommend."
