For Birth Control "I was on the Nexplanon for 3 years and got it taken out on the expiration date, and the same month I seemed to self-implode. I had mood swings, depression, anxiety, laziness, and little to NO sex drive. I was going insane! My boyfriend and my relationship were on and off because of me being so emotional. I felt so weak and sad! I said never again, I would rather be pregnant than to deal with this garbage. Ladies, I do not recommend this to anyone who wants to keep their sanity. Please do yourself a favor and skip this option when asked."

For Birth Control "I cannot say enough bad things about this birth control. It was awful! I was on for maybe 8 months or so before I decided I needed to remove it (and my boyfriend begged me). I had zero sex drive, did nothing for my skin, didn't cause significant weight gain that I noticed, but my mood swings were unbearable and uncontrollable. One second I was angry, the next I was crying. My coworkers and poor boyfriend got the worst of it. I was so depressed and felt so ugly I didn't want to get out of bed to even go to the store or out to eat ever. I swear it even caused nerve damage in my arm. I get random pain or tingles in that arm constantly, and it was removed a long time ago now. Just DO NOT ever get this birth control, it releases way too much hormone per day. Awful!!!"

For Birth Control "Probably the worst experience ever. I went in to receive an IUD, but after having some issues, the doctor insisted on sticking this thing in my arm before I had a chance to research anything about it! About a week into it, I started bleeding and bled for 3 months straight. Suddenly, my emotions were all over the place, and I had bad depression and anxiety. Worst of all, it wrecked my sex drive. So that's awesome for my poor husband. I got it taken out 2 weeks ago and am still not back to normal. Wouldn't recommend to anyone."

For Birth Control "I have had Nexplanon for over 2 years. The 1st year, I didn't really notice any side effects. However, the last 6 months, I haven't felt like myself. I feel extremely anxious almost all of the time, which isn't like me at all. All I want to do is sleep. My greatest concern is the way it is affecting my relationship. I also have noticed a steady decrease in my sex drive, have gained 30 lbs, started getting acne in random places (chest/thighs), and my bleeding is so irregular. There are months I bleed for 2 weeks, spot for a few days, then go back to bleeding heavily for a week! It's just weird because I went so long without any negative side effects, little did I know it was the calm before the storm. I hate how I feel and truly wish I would have just stayed on the pill. The side effects for me are NOT worth it! My happiness and quality of life have suffered greatly. I have a gyno appointment next week and am so looking forward to getting it removed. Hoping and praying I return to my old self!"

For Birth Control "Got my Nexplanon in Nov 2016. First 6 months were great, no period. After that, I had a period for a month, with a one-week gap in between. Went back to my doctor, who gave me a birth control pill (defeats the purpose) and said to take it for 3 months and it would 'reset' my cycle. Should have known better. Now here I am having heavy periods. Bleeding through tampons all the time at work. No libido. Breaking out. Serious PMS, anxiety, and depression. Migraines. Period ends on a Monday, starts up heavier than before on a Friday. Absolutely exhausting. I have an appointment to get it out in 2 weeks, and I cannot wait. I took this to make my life and cycle easier, never expected it to be worse."

For Birth Control "Where do I even begin!? When I first got the Nexplanon, I bled for 3 months straight. Had terrible mood swings. Felt depressed. Had really bad abdominal pain. Then everything kind of leveled out, and I liked it for about 6 months. I didn't bleed for a year! But I started gaining weight rapidly. I've never had a problem with my thyroid before, and now I do. I've also started bleeding again (this time for 3 months so far), and it is like a blackish color with a terrible smell, and I've gained 35 lbs! Until I got on this birth control, I was actually down to my pre-baby weight 4 months after my baby was born. Now, 18 months later, I'm almost as heavy as I was when I gave birth. The only reason I'm giving it a 1 is because it has prevented pregnancy. Did I mention that I've had zero sex drive!? Yeah. I know it will affect everyone differently, but I don't recommend this."

For Birth Control "This implant really decreased my quality of life. I would not recommend this drug to anyone. I had numerous side effects over the course of 1-2 years with the implant. I was only off of my cycle for 3-4 months throughout this period. I also gained 30 lbs and got painful acne all over my face. I started getting headaches, and also lost my sex drive. The least I could say is that it did prevent pregnancy, but it wasn't worth it. Since I've had it taken out, I've lost weight, and my acne has reduced. I'm glad I don't have to deal with any more side effects."

For Birth Control "After having my son in October 2017, I got my Nexplanon implant in December 2017. I was so hopeful as I was told I should not react to it as I did the Depo shot. :( Well, I started bleeding about 2 weeks after and bled nonstop until about midway through April. Throughout this whole time, I experienced mood swings, absolutely 0% sex drive whatsoever, and weight gain (and that's with completely cutting out fried food, sodas, sweet tea, and walking 2.5 or more miles per day). I just had mine removed today. Absolutely would not recommend this to anyone! The ONLY positive thing for me was my milk did not dry up. So I say this: take Nexplanon at your own risk!"

For Birth Control "Today is my 6-month mark since getting Nexplanon in, and I have bled non-stop since getting it except for one week. Libido went from very high to non-existent. Calling my doctor today to schedule removal. It's not worth the convenience. I'd rather take a daily pill than this, and I got this in the first place because I was trying to avoid a daily birth control. Doctor gave me pills to take while on the Nexplanon, stopped the bleeding at first, then stopped working, and I bled despite them. I do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I'm 24 years old, and I've had Nexplanon for almost 11 months. Worst decision I've ever made. I had major depression before I got the implant, and the longer I have it in, the worse it gets. I'm more irritable, stressed, emotional, and fatigued than I have been in my life. There are some nights when I honestly hope that I don't wake up the next day. My breasts were awfully tender, and my periods were irregular during the first three months, and then I experienced a fishy brown discharge for six months before my period finally stopped. I've also gained 15 pounds, which, for somebody who didn't even weigh triple digits before this fiasco, is VERY noticeable (my pant size went from a 1 to a 9). Between the staggering depression/anxiety wombo combo, almost completely replacing my wardrobe because I don't fit into anything anymore, a sex drive of absolute zero, and scarcely having enough motivation to keep myself alive, I can't recommend this birth control to anybody in good conscience."

For Birth Control "I’m 23 years old, no kids. I had the Implanon from 2011-2017. In 2017, it was changed from the Implanon to the Nexplanon... cool. I've been with the same guy for 7 years, not pregnant sounds good to me. Then I got engaged and wanted to lose some weight (that I have been gaining since I got with my now fiancé). I kid you not, I have gained about 90 pounds since 2011 of weight that I cannot lose. Dieting, going to the gym, putting in actual work to lose weight, and I just keep gaining. After I started realizing this, I started looking back. My sex drive is very low and has only been worse as the years go on. I get headaches all the time, seriously sometimes more than one a day. I have little energy, I’m grumpy sometimes for no reason at all. A couple weeks ago, I go in for an appointment to get this birth control out. For the love of all things in this life, don’t get this birth control!"

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon inserted 2/15/17. It was fine at first. It does the job. At first, when I got periods, they were light, and I wouldn't bleed heavy at all. I am currently in the most painful period in a long time. I had breast pain. Acne pops up now and again. I've had random leg pain. I've had shortness of breath. I lost my sex drive, bled from August 4th, 2017, until January 5th, 2018. After this, I bleed for two weeks, get off for two weeks, then it'll come. I constantly feel like I'm on my period. I'm drained all the time. No vitamins help. I'm moody and emotional always. It's made me nervous and anxious a lot of the time. I've gained 25-30 pounds at the most, and it fluctuates all the time. My back hurts all the time. I've been more emotional now than before. I got this because I always forget the pill. That's why I like it. Everyone is different, it doesn't hurt to try and find the birth control that works best for you. I'm planning to get it taken out."

For Birth Control "I got the implant on January 2nd, 2018, and it's been a nightmare. I bleed constantly, bad lower abdominal pain and headaches, no sex drive, which is affecting my marriage, acne, depression, and anxiety. Oh, and it really affects your pH balance, which causes a lot of yeast infections and makes you smell (BV). I would not recommend this to anyone, it has definitely made my life horrible. I don't even want to get out of bed most mornings. I don't want to get pregnant, but I need my life back and to feel normal again. I'm getting it removed ASAP!!"

For Birth Control "If I could give this birth control negative ratings, I would. Worst birth control I’ve ever been on. It does the job of preventing pregnancy, but with the outrageous side effects, it’s just not worth it. I get headaches every single day. My sex drive is nonexistent, when I do try to have sex, it is painful. I’m VERY moody. I started to get acne on my face as well as on my back. I have daily spotting. No “real” periods. I’ve gained 40 pounds on Nexplanon. I’ve had this in me for 2 years and cannot wait to get this thing out of me."

For Birth Control "1. I bled every day for the first 8 months. Once it settled, my period would still last a full week with heavy flow. So yeah, useless/miserable in this aspect. 2. I fell into depression. I was so anxious and depressed all the time, I thought something was wrong with me. Miserable. 3. NO SEX DRIVE, DRY AS A BONE! Sex was a bit painful, unsatisfactory, and very frustrating. I felt more depressed. It's been 3 months since it's been removed. My partner says there is a big difference in sex! My emotions are much more stable, and my periods are lighter, ironically! The MOA for this birth control (how it works) is to thicken the cervical mucus, inhibiting the passage of sperm to the uterus. Natural lubrication = sticky mess = BAD SEX! Not all BC do this. Do some research, and choose the right med with your MD. Not everyone reacts the same to birth control! I gave it 1 star because I did not get pregnant!"

For Birth Control "I have had Nexplanon for a month, and it has sadly been one of the most depressing months of my entire 30 years. I just had a baby in November, which is even more sad that Nexplanon has made me this depressed, and I have a two-year-old. My doctor said this would be great, but it hasn't. It's been terrible. I've never been on birth control before, and I will never do it again. I'm getting this out of my arm tomorrow, thank goodness. On Nexplanon, I have had serious depression, sadness, no energy, exhaustion, fatigue, no sex drive, and weight gain, even though I'm eating very healthy and working out. I'm normally a happy, upbeat, and optimistic person. I can't wait to get this out. I do not recommend this."

For Birth Control "I’m a 39-year-old female. All birth control devices always fail me, so I decided to give this a shot. I got the Nexplanon in September 2017. When I first got it, it was okay for about maybe two months. Now, NO SEX DRIVE, NO NOTHING, which is so annoying. I AM experiencing bad mood swings, constipation, nausea, all the time like I’m pregnant, headaches, spotting, breast tenderness, sick all the time. I would advise no one to get this. I know it’s different strokes for different folks, but it is not working for me. I wish I would’ve never gotten this. Now, I’m thinking of getting it removed and having a tubal ligation."

For Birth Control "I am a 20-year-old woman. I had this birth control for about 5 months. I know hormones work well for some people, but clearly not for me. This is how Nexplanon ruined my life: - my hair started to fall out - my anxiety had skyrocketed - I couldn't control my emotions. I would randomly have a breakdown in public - I was depressed (bordering suicidal) - I got constant yeast infections - it became really hard for me to get turned on - WORST of all, I had my period for 4 and a half months straight"

For Birth Control "Worse birth control ever. Had it implanted in June, and it is now mid-December, and I have been spotting since the day I got it. On and off bleeding from red to brown. My moods are horrible. I’m almost always in a bad mood and have NO sex drive. Talk about headaches too. I’m getting mine removed next week and am so happy. I do not recommend this birth control to anyone. Yeah, it stops pregnancy because you never had sex because you're always bleeding. Save yourself some time and do not get this, ladies."

For Birth Control "This is the worst. Previously, I've used the pill (multiple forms) since I became sexually active, and while I didn't love having to take it every day, the side effects were minimal. After having my first child, I had my Nexplanon inserted, thinking it sounded like a great long-term solution to contraception. I knew at first there would be side effects, and they did clear up within a few months. However, the longer I had it in, the worse things got. It's been nearly 2 years now, and I have major depression, almost constant bleeding, and mood swings I'd almost describe as mania. I experience acne, which I've never had to deal with before, my smell 'down there' has changed (no infection or anything), and my sex drive is ZERO. I'm getting it taken out!"

For Birth Control "I got this thing out of my arm today. I made an emergency appointment at family planning to get it out ASAP. I had extremely irregular periods and stomach pain. I had insane mood swings and no sex drive at all. How my husband is still with me, Idk. The past few weeks, I have felt really sick, went to walk-in care because I was passing out (3x). All tests came back normal. I have been extremely nauseous, dizzy, ears ringing, headaches, convulsions, and full-blown panic attacks. I have NEVER felt anything like this. So glad it is out."

For Birth Control "Honestly, my time on Nexplanon was awful. My period was irregular, but when I got it, the bleeding would last for 3 weeks at a time. I had to have a tampon in 24/7. I followed my typical eating habits and workout schedule and gained at least 20 lbs in a 6-month time span. I got the worst acne of my life, honestly, so bad, and had literally zero sex drive, so there was no point for this thing. My mood swings were insane, and I honestly felt like a different person. I kept waiting to get it out, thinking these things would have to resolve, but nope, never did. Thank goodness my removal was easy! I got it out, and things went back to normal relatively quickly. I know everyone reacts differently to birth control, but I would not recommend even risking it."
