For Birth Control "The Nexplanon was absolutely not worth it. I did not gain weight, and it keeps you from getting pregnant, but after 2 months my sex drive is GONE. I can’t even get wet no matter how hard I try. My mood is TERRIBLE! I get so angry, and I wanna cry over anything. I’m annoyed at everything. I used to be so happy, and after a year of having this in my arm, it’s ruined who I used to be. Most of all, it has made me bleed every day for a year straight and doesn’t hide my cramps anymore. I’m allergic to panty liners now, I’ve worn them so much. It burns “down there,” and sex hurts. They tried to put me on pills as well, and it worked for a bit and brought my mood back around, but it’s no longer working. They’re making me try 3 pills in one day to fix this. Not worth it anymore."

For Birth Control "I got the implant January 15th, 2019. The first couple of months were fine, insertion was a breeze, no periods for the first couple of months. Out of nowhere, I started bleeding with maybe a three-day break in between. It would range from spotting to very heavy bleeding. I also have anxiety and depression, my seasonal depression being the worst. My doctor put me on the same antidepressants I’ve used for years, and I started feeling extremely suicidal. I thought it was because we were trying medication for my ADHD for the first time in years. But I’m convinced it’s this dangerously stupid thing in my arm. I have zero sex drive, I feel like I hate everything around me, everything and everyone annoys me or frustrates me, I’m exhausted all the time, zero motivation, very little feelings of my usual bubbly, happy self. I so can’t wait to get this thing out. If I could give a negative amount of stars, I would. This will be taken out no later than the end of February."

For Birth Control "After reading these comments, I’m a bit afraid. I am scheduled to get the Nexplanon removed Thursday, however, I spotted the first month and it went away, but I now have vaginitis. Sexual intercourse is painful, and I’m always dry in that area, as well as when I do have sex with my husband, I bleed, which is crazy to me. I just wanted to let women know whoever is thinking about getting this birth control don’t because this is the worst thing ever. I was on Depo for five years and never had problems like this, so I’m a bit afraid because the way it feels down below is just not normal for me, so I pray once they remove it that my body goes back to normal."

For Birth Control "Great on not getting pregnant. 2018 was my first experience with Nexplanon. I had my period for 2 months straight, horrible cramps. Then periods went from 2 months to 2 weeks straight. So, after a few months, I just decided to keep it because I didn't want any more kids, and it felt like I already tried every birth control there is. A year rolled by, and I noticed weight gain even with me working out 4 times a week, even eating more healthier. I couldn't get the weight off, and that became very frustrating. I began to have back pain, migraines, stomach pain, nausea, sex drive is a no, depressed and very fatigued where I just want to stay in bed all day. Before getting birth control, I felt energetic and youthful, and now I feel all messed up and very moody. One moment I am angry, and another I feel worthless and sad. But I DO NOT RECOMMEND GETTING IT. IT'S THE WORST. I scheduled my appointment for next Thursday and will have it removed."

For Birth Control "I'm going to make an appointment to get Nexplanon taken out. I've had it for almost two years now, and I have gained 30 lbs, have severe acne, my mood swings are ridiculous, and I have zero sex drive. Also, my arm where the implant is always itchy. Bothers me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!"

For Birth Control "Removed my Nexplanon a day ago. I do NOT recommend it! Listen to your gut feeling to take it out. If you love feeling angry, misunderstood, irritable, severe moods, then this is for you! Looking back over the past 3 years and now reading some of these reviews, I'm saddened. I was feeling what so many felt and didn't realize it was this: decreased sex drive (my poor husband, lol)... mostly because I wouldn't stop BLEEDING! The last 2 months, I bled a total of 6 weeks, it stopped the day it was taken out! It's out and still, the next day crying, sad, mad, irritable... crazy! Pray my husband gives me a pass the next few days while this thing releases me from its chains! Words of advice... ask the doc how they bandage you up at removal? Who would put tape on an open wound?! Put antibiotic ointment on the wound and bandage! I will never do this again. Ladies, don't wait until the end of your 3 years to remove it. I hate taking a pill, but that was a piece of cake compared to this torture I endured the last 3 years!"

For Birth Control "I like that I'm not bleeding anymore... But in all honesty, this birth control sucks. I asked the doctor if Nexplanon would affect my anxiety and depression. I was told it wouldn't, which was obviously a load of rubbish. I've been doing research after research, trying to figure out why I feel even worse than I ever have. Finally, I found this forum, which confirmed my worries. Nexplanon has caused me depression, I've had panic attacks after panic attacks - one so bad it put me into a mild seizure. It has affected my anxiety even more than my depression. One day I feel fine, the next day I spend all day trying to calm myself down. Migraines have been unbearable. I have no sex drive. And it's been affecting my entire life. I have nobody to talk to because of my crazy mood swings. My relationship is extremely rocky. I didn't gain weight, but I lost it, which is worse for me. I actually had a nice body, now I can't even look at myself without feeling disgust. Thank you all for your experiences. I'm definitely getting this thing removed."

For Birth Control "I had Implanon before Nexplanon with no issues. Since June 2017, I feel like my entire life has slowly started to fall apart. I have no sex drive. I have gained 40 pounds. I have wicked depression, anxiety, and brain fog, along with 72-hour migraines. These are caused by pseudotumor cerebri. This means I have excess pressure from fluid in my brain! The ophthalmologist specifically told me that this is common in birth control users. If I could, I would get it removed NOW, but I am waiting in line until the end of September, and I just hope that all of this goes away and I can get back to living my life as usual."

For Birth Control "A few days after having the Nexplanon implant put in, I found myself having catastrophic meltdowns over nothing, like the ones I had when I was a kid. My anxiety was so bad I would have full-on panic attacks prior to going to work. This also made me have serious thoughts about my sanity. I do have a history of anxiety and depression, but I have been stable for many years until I had the implant. I was a prisoner of these hormones, making me mentally unstable. It had also given me the worst acne that I haven't seen since I was in my early teens. I also had zero sex drive with that implant. It has ruined so many aspects of my life for the past two months, I couldn't wait to see if my hormones would even out. I knew I had to get it removed immediately. It's been a couple of weeks since I got it taken out and had the hormone-free IUD put in. I could already tell after a few weeks that I am becoming more mentally stable. My acne has also gotten a lot better too."

For Birth Control "I had the implant inserted in July 2016 and have recently just got it removed. Let me just say it was amazing for the first year and a bit, and it all went downhill - from migraines to no sex drive, constant bleeding, thoughts I wouldn’t even think of having before I got my implant put in. My mood swings were insane, and I even got stretch marks because of how quickly I gained weight, and I never had the energy to do anything. I know they say everyone is different, but for me it was a nightmare. It did obviously protect me from having an unwanted pregnancy, but personally it’s not worth it if there are better alternatives. I’ve now been off the implant for less than a month, and I can already feel myself slowly getting better. My migraines seem to have disappeared, and overall, I seem to be a lot happier and like how I used to be! This is just my experience, and like I said, I know everyone is different."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon put in January of 2018. For my 1st year, no periods after a week of getting it put in. No cramps. Also, I lost weight and it helped with my migraines. Best of all, I didn’t get pregnant. Then my 2nd year hit, I was bleeding. Also, my depression was really bad. I felt like I wasn’t myself. I remember my obgyn telling me I was going to spot or bleed a little, but this went on for weeks. So by the time I called them, I had my period for 4 weeks and they told me it’s normal to have a period up to 6 weeks on this implant. So I waited, then it got to the 3rd or 4th month of my period and I called my obgyn. I was given another birth control pill to counteract this one, which didn’t do anything. I would have to buy 4 boxes of tampons every 2 1/2 weeks. Then it came to my last month, I started getting really bad cramps (I got sent home from work), got sick, lost and gained weight, lost my sex drive, and my depression got worse that last month. So I scheduled to get it removed ASAP! I do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I got this horrible torture device (Nexplanon) put in my arm about a year ago, and within a few days of having it, I started getting severely depressed, and it wasn’t like a normal depression/sadness. I started to feel like I had no emotions at all, like I was numb to the world. Had absolutely no sex drive at all. And bled (and am still bleeding) at all times. I have a constant UTI (probably from all the tampons), and I have gained about 65 pounds. My skin is covered in acne. I know everyone is different, but ladies, if you are considering this form of birth control, please think again! It not only affects you but also the people around you! My boyfriend thinks I am a completely different person ever since I got this! As far as contraception, it works great, but I’m done. I shouldn’t have gotten this removed a long time ago!"

For Birth Control "Loss of sex drive and arousal was the only symptom I experienced. But seriously, what’s the point in this implant when the point of getting it was to enjoy sex? I got it right before losing my virginity. My sex drive died immediately when I got this implant. I switched to Paragard 6 months ago, and I still cannot even get aroused. I’m pretty sure my sex drive is gone forever, and I’ll never know what good sex is. :("

For Birth Control "I felt the need to share my story with other women looking for a birth control. Please do your research and read the reviews before getting on any birth control. Nexplanon has a lot of side effects. When you get on a birth control, you know that there will be some side effects, but if it affects your mental health, then you need to re-evaluate your options. I had it for two and a half years, and it was very effective as far as keeping me from being pregnant, but I only had my period once, that was when I first got it inserted. In addition, I was having a lot of migraines, weight gain, depression, mood swings, low sex drive, and nausea. I got it removed, and I must say that I am in such a better mood now. I still barely have a period, and it has been 3 months, but my physician said it takes about 6 months for your hormones to get back to normal after removal. I am so thankful that I don’t have it anymore because I am at peace with myself and my family."

For Birth Control "I have been on it for a month today. I have an appointment tomorrow to have it removed. I have been bleeding non-stop for 12 days, and today I passed 2 huge blood clots, and that's never happened to me before! Headaches, numbness, and pain in my legs, pain when urinating. My anxiety has gotten worse, my depression has returned. My acne has also gotten worse. I have awful nightmares and trouble sleeping. I get bad stomach aches. My sex drive is gone. I'm so angry about all of this, and I can't wait to have this implant out so I can start feeling better! I'm tired of being so tired and moody and fatigued. Do not get this implant. Not worth it at all!!!!!"

For Birth Control "Nexplanon works wonderfully to prevent pregnancy and did so even when I was breastfeeding. When my baby was 9 months old, that’s when I decided to start weaning him from breast milk and start the transition to part formula, part whole milk. I had started weaning him, and that’s when my uncontrollable bleeding started, and I was just thinking all the hormones must just be what is triggering it, so I continued with the implant. Then, when my baby no longer was on formula and was completely switched to whole milk at age one, and I no longer produced milk, I still had uncontrollable bleeding. I’m talking 25 days or more out of the month of just bleeding and BAD mood swings along with depression, not feeling like myself at all. I knew in my heart something was wrong. Yes, it works wonderfully for preventing pregnancy as I had zero sex drive. Might be different for others, yet it DIDN'T work for me due to too many side effects. Everyone is different, it may work for you, may not!"

For Birth Control "I finally got this after months of debating and reading reviews. I noticed headaches right away. 7 months later, my headaches are extreme, as are my mood swings, no real sex drive, I've gained at least 10 lbs. I've always been a very happy person and good-natured person. Now, on this, I've never been so angry and sad. One awesome thing was my period stopped almost immediately, luckily, I didn't get the constant bleeding like so many others. I've been so exhausted and hungry all the time. Lightheaded, dizzy, and headaches are so bad I was ready to take it out myself. I finally got it out today, and I could never recommend. Hopefully, I will feel better soon."

For Birth Control "The first 3 months were fine, except for constant hunger, which comes with weight gain, obviously. Around the 3-month mark, I started to bleed, which didn’t worry me because they say that you can spot for a few months, however, I’ve been bleeding for 5 months, fluctuating from spotting to sometimes 5 ultra tampons a day. As soon as I think the bleeding is slowing, it comes back extremely heavy: cramps, headaches, depression, 12-pound weight gain, no sex drive at all, which has taken a toll on my relationship. I have no desire to have sex, and I mean at all! I will definitely be taking it out ASAP!"

For Birth Control "Getting Nexplanon was the worst mistake I have ever made! This birth control has been added to the list of high-risk birth control, as I found out, like Yaz, etc. It can cause internal bleeding. The side effects are horrendous, it killed all my libido. I can’t get wet for the life of me. I am so sore down in my private area, and now I’m afraid I am severely depressed. Mood swings are at an all-time high. I've been having like a viral cold and scabbing in my nose non-stop. Back pain, abdominal pain. Constant sugary food cravings, if I don’t eat chocolate every day, it feels like I am going to freak out. They said it should balance out after 6 months, I had it for 10, and it only got worse!"

For Birth Control "I have had a horrible experience. I developed horrible body acne that has left scars, and I spotted constantly. After over a year, my period stopped. No other side effects that I could tell. (Looking back, my mood was VERY ERRATIC.) After 2 years, my period came back with a vengeance (my mood was waaaaay better). When I went back at the 3-year mark to have it removed, my doctor told me, 'Oh, it does that. When you get the new one, it'll disappear again.' So I thought, okay, well, I'll have it put in, and if it doesn't control my period better, I'll get it out. Here we are. Month 4 of the 2nd Nexplanon. Not only are my periods much, much worse, I have been on a terrible heavy period for 3 weeks (think 5 maxi pads or more a day plus blood clots). 2 months ago, my doc put me on birth control pills as well to help with my period. On top of not reducing my period or stopping it, it KILLED my sex drive (pills). I'm scheduling to get it removed ASAP. Oh, and the acne came back. I'm in my late 20s."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon inserted three years ago in 2015. First, the irregular bleeding was horrible. I bled for 6 months nonstop. After 6 months, my periods regulated. Then weight gain was out of control. With no diet changes after getting the Nexplanon, I gained 50+ pounds and could not get it off with exercise or diet changes. I went in July of 2018 to have it removed and reinserted. It took them 45 minutes to remove it because it had become encapsulated in muscle tissue. They had to cut away muscle tissue and yank it out, which caused horrible bruising, bleeding, and a scar on my arm. Shortly after having the new one inserted, I experienced debilitating fatigue, horrible mood swings and depression, migraines, nausea, wiped out sex drive, lightheadedness, and even gained an additional 10 pounds in 3 months. It has caused a huge strain on my parenting, my marriage, and my professional life. I finally got the implant removed this morning. Definitely would not recommend."

For Birth Control "So I only had this birth control for 4 months, and my experience was the worst I have ever had with birth controls. First, the insertion process was a little painful, and also the healing. Followed by the scar it left. I had no periods during this period. But I did have cramping, followed by no sex drive or sensation. My anxiety got worse than ever, and eventually, I started experiencing depression to the point I started having suicidal thoughts, so I decided I had had enough and got it out. The doctor that removed it did such a bad job she cut me in all kinds of ways to remove it that I even passed out. This birth control is very dangerous."

For Birth Control "Have almost had the implant for a year and have not been off my period since a week after getting the implant. Always lethargic because of it, my skin has been breaking out like mad, I have no appetite but gain major weight no matter what I do. Oh, it's very effective birth control given the fact that some of us have never-ending periods and no sex drive. Doctors will give BC pills to regulate the bleeding and hormones, but the whole point of getting the Nexplanon was to not have to worry about missing a pill and an appointment for the BC shot, etc. Getting it removed soon and hoping my body goes back to normal as quickly as possible."
