For Birth Control "Worse decision I ever made. I was given the implant following an abortion, even though I had a brief history of depression. I bled constantly for the first 9 months. I took a job abroad that involved riding 2-3 horses a day. Using tampons constantly, I got an infection. I lost my confidence, lost my energy, and became depressed and suicidal. I wanted to cut it out of my arm. I came home to the UK and couldn't find anyone to have it removed. I had zero understanding from a local GP who told me I was making the issues up. In 1 year, I have put on a stone. I can't cope with work stress, and, funnily enough, with the constant bleeding and mood swings, I can't hold a relationship or have any sex life. I have tried for 6 months to get the damn thing removed. Medical professionals using it do not value mental health or physical side effects as a problem. Change needs to happen."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon put in in May 2018, and almost immediately my mood swings were through the roof, and I gained almost 30 pounds in the couple of months I had it. I was crying over everything, I was angry over nothing, and I started to get depressed. The weight gain made my self-esteem drop, but I was trying to be patient, and it was hard. I figured it was the hormones and it would pass, but then I started my period. I was on my period for a month and a half STRAIGHT, and it was very heavy. I was trying to be patient, but as the depression worsened and the period didn’t stop, I got very frustrated and had it removed. About 6 months after removal, my metabolism is still slow, and the weight is barely starting to go away. The depression lightened almost immediately after removal. For some women, this birth control method works wonders, but for me, it just made me miserable and hate what it did to my body."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon inserted three years ago in 2015. First, the irregular bleeding was horrible. I bled for 6 months nonstop. After 6 months, my periods regulated. Then weight gain was out of control. With no diet changes after getting the Nexplanon, I gained 50+ pounds and could not get it off with exercise or diet changes. I went in July of 2018 to have it removed and reinserted. It took them 45 minutes to remove it because it had become encapsulated in muscle tissue. They had to cut away muscle tissue and yank it out, which caused horrible bruising, bleeding, and a scar on my arm. Shortly after having the new one inserted, I experienced debilitating fatigue, horrible mood swings and depression, migraines, nausea, wiped out sex drive, lightheadedness, and even gained an additional 10 pounds in 3 months. It has caused a huge strain on my parenting, my marriage, and my professional life. I finally got the implant removed this morning. Definitely would not recommend."

For Birth Control "I tried to do a lot of research before getting this birth control implant, but apparently I didn't do enough. I would not recommend this birth control to anybody. In the weeks right after I had the Nexplanon inserted, I had the absolute worst mood swings. I was horribly irritable and depressed for absolutely no reason at all for about three weeks. I had some mild cramping and spotting all throughout my time on the Nexplanon, but nothing crazy like I've seen in other reviews. However, the deal breaker for me was the insane weight gain that I experienced. I gained 20+ pounds in less than 6 months on this birth control that would not come off even with a very healthy diet and regular exercise. I made the decision to get the implant removed, and it was the best decision I could have made. As soon as I got it out, I had dropped 5 pounds in three days. I started to feel like myself again. If you have weight issues, DO NOT get this birth control. You will regret it!"

For Birth Control "I first thought this product was great. But a few months after insertion, it caused progressively worsening mood swings, depression, and anxiety. Additionally, my periods became even longer and heavier as time went on. After about a year and a half, I went to my OBGYN and started crying for no reason. She said, 'Did you know depression is a side effect of Nexplanon?' Of course, I had no idea. I made an appointment the very next day to take it out. As soon as they took the implant out, I instantly felt better. Daily pills may be a pain, but they're MUCH better than this damn product. Don't put this in your body!"

For Birth Control "I had this inserted 3 months after having my son. Spotted for a few days and then didn't have a period until I stopped nursing my son 9.5 months later. Now I have been bleeding heavily for 21 days and counting. I am emotional and have gained a lot of weight. I do not recommend this birth control."

For Birth Control "The only good thing I have to say about this is it’s good at preventing pregnancy, and my periods are a lot more tolerable. I’ve had this in not even three full months yet, and my life has taken a turn for the worst. I have horrible mood swings, I have extremely severe depression, and I’m either furious at the world or crying constantly. I feel like absolute garbage all the time. I don’t even want to get out of bed anymore. It’s really starting to affect my life and my relationship. I feel like I don’t know who I am, I don’t even feel human or alive, and I just hate it. I hate the way this stupid implant makes me feel, I’ll be getting it out soon."

For Birth Control "I was on the Nexplanon for 3 years and got it taken out on the expiration date, and the same month I seemed to self-implode. I had mood swings, depression, anxiety, laziness, and little to NO sex drive. I was going insane! My boyfriend and my relationship were on and off because of me being so emotional. I felt so weak and sad! I said never again, I would rather be pregnant than to deal with this garbage. Ladies, I do not recommend this to anyone who wants to keep their sanity. Please do yourself a favor and skip this option when asked."

For Birth Control "Over the past year, my PMS has been worse than it’s ever been, cramping, nausea, flu-like symptoms, mood swings affecting my marriage, my period flow was worse. I went to the OB-GYN because I thought I was premenopausal. Doc said I’m not and suggested Nexplanon to help my PMS. The implant hurt once in. After 5 days, I got pimples, food cravings, and was so bloated. The implant was painful, uncomfortable. I wanted it out. I went to the doc to get it removed, and after 1/2 hour of trying, she couldn’t find it in my arm. I ended up having surgery yesterday to remove it. I never write reviews and read a lot before I decided to do the Nexplanon. I was told I could try it and if I didn’t like it, that “it will be easy to take it right out.” I know everyone is different with pain and side effects. Just make sure you think it through and decide what the best choice is for you. It’s not like I died from this or anything :) Two tiny scars I have and a review to write."

For Birth Control "I cannot wait to have this implant removed! I have had it for a little over a year now, but three months in, I had to start taking the pill to offset all of the terrible things that it was doing to my body... acne, nonstop bleeding, weight gain, etc. Over the last six months, I have developed awful depression, anxiety, and have had terrible mood swings. I never had any of these symptoms before, and I literally have NO reason to have them as I live a great life and am surrounded by great people all of the time. So there cannot be any other explanation aside from these horrific hormones. I will be having it taken out tomorrow and haven't ever been more excited about something being cut out of me."

For Birth Control "I got it in late May, and it’s August, and I am taking it out. I loved not having to worry about pregnancy and the freedom and safety this BC gave me. But it isn’t worth it. I feel alienated in my own body, I don’t know who I am anymore. I’ve developed depression and mood swings that have just now started to affect my relationship with someone who’s been my best friend for years and, most recently, my boyfriend and the love of my life. It makes you feel like you have no purpose. I feel like a spectator watching some stranger live my life. I’ll sometimes do or say something and, in the same moment, wonder why I'm acting like that, and it’s all because of this implant. I know that if I keep this in, I’m going to lose myself and the person I love, and condom-free sex isn’t worth that."

For Birth Control "Warning: Absolutely horrible. I had Nexplanon for 2 years. At first, it was okay, I bled for months, then had no periods, which was great! Then it began. I am a naturally happy person, have been my whole life. After about a year on this, I turned into the worst person ever. I was always moody, hated my boyfriend (now fiancé), and yet he never did anything wrong. I gained 40 pounds in 5 months. I suffered extreme depression and severe anxiety. I had mood swings and anger problems. Went to my doctor multiple times, and they never thought it might be my birth control. I finally read reviews and had over 20 people going through the same thing. I finally told my doctor to take it out, and as soon as I did, I lost all the weight gained, and moods got extremely better, although it affected me in the long run because now I will always deal with anxiety and depression."

For Birth Control "Horrible bruising and pain right after surgery; doc got sloppy. Bruising went away after a month and a half, but was painful within my skin for the entire time I had it. Bleeding from a week after I got it, for 3 and a half months. Never stopped bleeding a single moment for 3 and a half months. Caused terrible acne and mood swings. Would cry over silly things or become enraged over nothing. When I got it removed, it cost around $200 with insurance, and stopped bleeding immediately. The risks of having it migrate and the side effect symptoms do not outweigh the pros. Taking the pill once a day at a time that works is much cheaper, safer, and better for the mind."

For Birth Control "I have had this birth control for one year. I got it two months after having my daughter, and I had slight postpartum depression. However, after getting this implanted in my arm, I became a whole different person. I started to get depressed, extremely anxious for no reason, and I have had horrible mood swings. I have always said I love this birth control because of how effective it was and because I haven’t had periods. I have had my period five weeks straight now. Today I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and PTSD. The PTSD is unrelated, obviously, but the birth control hormones aren’t helping at all. I have always been happy, and I’ve always laughed at everything. I haven’t had the desire to laugh since I got this BC. I’m begging the person reading this, do NOT get this birth control. My life has been hell, and I cannot wait to get this removed."

For Birth Control "My doctor told me about Nexplanon, and I decided not to do any research and try it out. One year later, I have gained over 30 pounds and am not the same person. I didn't notice the side effects until 6 months in. I am in school while working full time, so I assumed my weight gain, mood swings, and anxiety were attributed to that. In January, I started eating a very strict diet and working out 5x/week. I was still gaining weight! By May, I was the heaviest I have ever been. I thought maybe I was having thyroid issues. I went and got tested, and my levels were normal. A friend asked about my BC. She said she had the same symptoms, and I should get it taken out. I was sure it was my thyroid and the blood levels just needed to be tested again. THEN, I started having full-on panic attacks and breaking out in hives. I made an appointment to get it taken out and am hoping that in time I can get back to my normal self because it has been affecting my self-esteem, my marriage, and my well-being."

For Birth Control "So I got the Nexplanon put in a month ago, and almost exactly two weeks after having it put in, I started feeling the effects of it, like my doctor said I would. I started bleeding a ton! Way too much to the point I’ve become anemic and am having to have it removed today and go to my doctor to get checked up following this appointment. Once the two-week mark hit, not only did I bleed through tampons and pads within 20-30 minutes, but I had horrible dizziness and became very lightheaded all hours of the day, became very moody, like I’ve never ever had issues with mood swings before, not even on periods or during pregnancy, this was my first experience of serious mood swings. I was tired all the time, making dinner made it feel like I was running a marathon because of how tired I was getting. My nurse says that was a side effect of my major blood loss. Overall, I had a very bad experience with it."

For Birth Control "I cannot say enough bad things about this birth control. It was awful! I was on for maybe 8 months or so before I decided I needed to remove it (and my boyfriend begged me). I had zero sex drive, did nothing for my skin, didn't cause significant weight gain that I noticed, but my mood swings were unbearable and uncontrollable. One second I was angry, the next I was crying. My coworkers and poor boyfriend got the worst of it. I was so depressed and felt so ugly I didn't want to get out of bed to even go to the store or out to eat ever. I swear it even caused nerve damage in my arm. I get random pain or tingles in that arm constantly, and it was removed a long time ago now. Just DO NOT ever get this birth control, it releases way too much hormone per day. Awful!!!"

For Birth Control "This is probably the worst birth control ever made. If I could rate it a negative 1,000,000, I would. I’ve had this birth control for the whole three years because I got it in high school, and I was glad to have something I don’t have to worry about. There are times when I have been on my period for months at a time, heavy and just going through underwear despite wearing pads. I have been on my period since April now, and it’s July. Despite my birth control supposedly ending in June, I will never, ever recommend this to any women. I have gained so much weight from this, my mood is always changing, and my period is always here. I don’t remember a time I wasn’t on my period or spotting. This defeats the purpose of the birth control. I just feel as if this birth control has ruined my body and its balance, everything feels wrong about it, but I get it taken out in a week, so hopefully there are some good things to come out of it."

For Birth Control "I had this birth control put in when I was 17. I am now 18, and I have been having problems non-stop. When I first got it, after a month I wasn't on my period, but not long after I was on my period for 2 months straight, and I have had a few times when it will stop for a little bit, but then come back for a longgg time. I have gained about 40 pounds from this birth control, and I know it's the birth control because I have not changed any way of eating or anything. I'm always sad or mad, I go off so fast over dumb stuff. I wish I would have gotten it out sooner, but I thought it would change. I'm getting it out next month, I can't deal with the rubbish that comes along with this birth control. I would never recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I have been on the Nexplanon for about 1 year, almost 2, and I absolutely hate it! I regret getting this! I’m always having terrible migraines every day! Anxiety, terrible depression, weight gain, weakness, numbness, sharp pains in my neck, bad mood swings, always feeling light-headed, and lack of sleep. I can’t wait to get this taken out. I will never get this birth control ever again!"

For Birth Control "This birth control is terrible. I haven't experienced much weight gain, but it's been a couple of months and I'm STILL bleeding. This birth control is literally destroying my relationship. My mood swings are out of control, and I get so sad for long periods of time for no justifiable cause. I take a mood stabilizer and an antidepressant, so I know for sure it's this nightmare. Oh, not to mention the acne... I'm breaking out on my chest! Best of luck to anyone that uses this form of birth control."

For Birth Control "Absolutely the worst birth control I’ve had. I had my period for two to three weeks out of each month, every month. Over time, I got horrible acne, depression, and anxiety. I had mood swings like no other, and all these things continued to get worse and worse over time."

For Birth Control "This is awful. I got Nexplanon instead on February 9th, and the first month or so was fine. About a month after insertion, I started bleeding and have not stopped, and it is now June 29th. I have had a constant period for about 4 months now, and honestly, I’m drained. It has completely ruined my sex life, and I’ve spent so much extra money on pads and tampons. Not to mention, this has made my skin break out worse than it’s ever been. I’ve gained a substantial amount of weight in my stomach, and my mood swings have made me flat-out evil. I have an appointment to get it removed first thing in the morning, and I can’t wait to start living normally again."

For Birth Control "I have had the Nexplanon implant for two months, and my mood has drastically changed. I’m angry and irritable for no apparent reason. I feel down and depressed and have no desire for sex. My acne on my face is beyond horrible and uncontrollable. I had no idea all this could result from the birth control until a friend brought it to my attention, in turn, leading me to the reviews. The reviews confirmed that I wasn’t feeling this way alone. After discussing these issues with my primary doctor, she recommended I return to my OBGYN to have it removed."
