For Birth Control "I have had my Nexplanon implant in for 1.5 years and I had it removed on the 20th of August 2020. Three days later, the nightmare kicks in! Can someone tell me when this will end? Note: 0 history of mental health problems (current nightmare = severe anxiety, sometimes panic attacks, high heart rate, dizziness, dream-like state of mind, confusion, frustration, irritation, mood swings, lack of control. Not myself whatsoever! I asked the male doctor, and he informed me, as well as the lady doctor who removed it, that this was not related to the implant removal. I think the removal has caused a serious hormonal imbalance in my body. Can anyone relate? If so, please leave a message/comment. I am 34 years old and it’s scary, so if there are any young girls or ladies out there, you're not alone! Take care, my fellow soldiers. Xx"

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon. I thought it would help. It was great at first, then two days after I got it, my vision was going crazy, I got dizzy, and I had a lot of mood swings. And I looked up some of these side effects, they are crazy. I think this birth control needs to be looked into more and maybe have fewer side effects. If it works for you, great, but if it doesn’t, please take it out. It’s not worth having it in your arm if you feel miserable. And I know every woman is different, but please be aware."

For Birth Control "Once I had Nexplanon put in, I bled for over 3 months. I also had side effects of horrible acne and skin issues, mood swings, and a smell down there."

For Birth Control "It’s awful. I’ve had Nexplanon for almost 4 months, and I'm getting mine out next weekend. The mood swings are terrible. I used to have really bad depression and anxiety, and I was finally able to tone it down, but Nexplanon brought it back, worse than ever. I always cry and get into fights with my boyfriend because of my awful mood swings. I do not recommend it for people that are accustomed to depression and anxiety."

For Birth Control "I only had the Nexplanon implant for about 6 weeks, and then had it taken out. I already suffered from mild anxiety and depression, but once I got the implant, it was like a whole other world. I couldn't get out of bed and go to work, I was crying all the time, and I was borderline suicidal. I got it taken out last Friday, and I'm so glad I did. I'm not sure if the mood swings would have gone away or not if I had given it more time, but regardless, my mental health got so bad because of the mood swings that it just wasn't worth it anymore. I didn't get pregnant on Nexplanon, which is why I didn't rate it a zero, but I would strongly caution against getting the implant if you have pre-existing mental health issues. And if you recently got the implant, and you're experiencing this and wondering if you should get it taken out, do it. It's not worth the negative impact on your mental health. There are other options."

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon 6 weeks after having my youngest in November. I got it removed that following June. The whole time I had it, I gained an insane amount of weight due to being hungry ALL the time. I had horrid migraines almost every day. It was a great week if I had 1 or 2 days migraine-free. My mood swings were horrible. My depression and anxiety were the worst they had ever been. Since August or September of 2018, I have not had a normal period. I bleed extremely heavily the first few days, have a day or two with no bleeding, then start bleeding again. Then the bleeding multiple times a month started. I'm not talking 1 normal period then some spotting. Nope, I'm talking 2 or 3 normal periods a month. I told my doctor about it, and she said it's my body getting back into balance. But almost 2 years later, still trying to get back in balance?"

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon implant in December 2018, and it’s now February 2020, so just over a year. In these months, I’ve had so many problems. Acne/spots all over my body, whereas before Nexplanon, I was quite lucky and sometimes went months without ever having one spot. My periods stopped completely. I gained around 2 stone (even going to the gym didn’t seem to help), and I have an increased appetite. My moods are horrendous, I’m constantly angry. My sex drive has diminished to nothing, and when I do try to have sex, I am very dry. It’s also painful, and I have gained a cervical ectropion (not sure if it’s linked, but seems plausible) since having it in. I also get sharp pains at the insert site from time to time. The only positive I have for Nexplanon is that I haven’t been caught pregnant, so I suppose it’s doing its job in that sense. I wouldn’t recommend it if you struggle with mental health beforehand."

For Birth Control "My daughter had the Nexplanon implanted about a year and a half ago, although I told her I thought it was a bad idea. It has not been studied in women under the age of 18. After about the first 2 months, I saw the light in my daughter's eyes go out. She had horrible cramps, breakthrough bleeding lasting weeks, and severe mood swings and depression. On Friday, January 31st, at 8 pm, my daughter was taken to the local ER for suicidal thoughts. After 36 hours of awfulness, she was admitted to a psychiatric care facility and put under suicide watch. The doctor that gave her this implant did NOT educate her on the side effects it can cause, especially the mental side effects. She will be discharged in a few days and has an appointment to have it removed immediately. Do NOT get this form of birth control! Especially if you have ever been diagnosed with any type of ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, etc. I’m grateful she saw that something was not right and sought help before I lost her."

For Birth Control "The Nexplanon was absolutely not worth it. I did not gain weight, and it keeps you from getting pregnant, but after 2 months my sex drive is GONE. I can’t even get wet no matter how hard I try. My mood is TERRIBLE! I get so angry, and I wanna cry over anything. I’m annoyed at everything. I used to be so happy, and after a year of having this in my arm, it’s ruined who I used to be. Most of all, it has made me bleed every day for a year straight and doesn’t hide my cramps anymore. I’m allergic to panty liners now, I’ve worn them so much. It burns “down there,” and sex hurts. They tried to put me on pills as well, and it worked for a bit and brought my mood back around, but it’s no longer working. They’re making me try 3 pills in one day to fix this. Not worth it anymore."

For Birth Control "Horrible. I have gained ten pounds so far, literally half of my hair has fallen out, I've been bleeding since I got it put in 6 months ago, it pinches my arm fat when I rest my arm downward, and it has made me insane, like I feel pregnant and hormonal and crying and angry, irrational, just crazy."

For Birth Control "Inserted December 2018. The first 3 months were good, I got normal periods. The next 3 months they started getting lighter and only lasting a couple of days. That was the end of my happiness. I normally get my period at the end of the month, so I got my normal June period. Then, not even a week after it was over, I got it again. And it's been like that ever since. I bleed for 2 weeks, maybe get 3 days where I can have sex with my (thankfully) patient boyfriend, but then it just starts right back up. And they aren't normal. I'm surprised I haven't passed out from blood loss, that's how heavy my periods are now. And the mood swings just add to my experience. I'm fine one minute, then the next I'm a raging psycho. Like I said, thank god my boyfriend is patient and understanding. I don't know how he puts up with it. Needless to say, it's coming out tomorrow. It was one of those 'good in theory, bad in execution' moments for me, and I'm ready to be normal again."

For Birth Control "Well, I got a nice story to tell that goes like this: I almost died because of this thing in my arm. I had it on for a year and a half, and since the first month, my period disappeared, which made me turn into a monster. I became a completely different person: mood swings like crazy, extreme headaches, always tired and depressed. Long story short, over the summer of 2019, one day this vomiting started. I thought it was a stomach virus until 15 days went by and all I could eat. I was on IV at the hospital for weeks, under observation and under medication to ease the vomiting. They came to the conclusion that I had an anxiety disorder to an extreme, got to a psychiatrist for her to tell me that all of this was happening because of that little inoffensive tube I had in my arm. She ordered to get it out of my body immediately, and I promise you I’m not making this up. After 48 hours, I was a different person. The vomiting stopped, and as the days went by, I started getting better and better. Never again."

For Birth Control "Probably the worst birth control I ever had in my life. I got the implant June 2018. Removal November 2019. I have no idea how I kept my sanity. I would bleed for 2-4 weeks and get maybe a week of no bleeding if I was lucky. It wasn't uncommon to be down in the dumps, physically or emotionally. With it gone, I feel a million times better."

For Birth Control "This is the worst birth control on the planet. I was a complete psychopath for the first 4-6 months. My mood is affected immensely, and my anxiety is through the roof. I gained about 60 pounds in the first year, and the bleeding... the bleeding is horrible. You never know when it’s coming or how long it will stay. When I first got it, I bled for about 3 months. After a while, I would skip a month of bleeding, but then when I would get it, it would last for weeks. It only seems to be getting worse. I am now a month and a half into this cycle, and there is no sign of it stopping. It expires in February, and I cannot WAIT to get it out. Don’t get this birth control! It’s AWFUL!!"

For Birth Control "I’ve had Nexplanon for a month, and I’ve been miserable. Since I’ve had it, I’ve had horrible acne outbreaks, my mood swings are very bad and very strong, and I’ve had my period nonstop since I’ve gotten it. I am switching birth controls because this is very negative towards my body. I don’t recommend this birth control."

For Birth Control "I know everyone’s experiences may be different. It was the worst thing I got! Two to three weeks after getting Nexplanon, I started having terrible mood swings, anxiety, depression, you name it!! It may be that my body reacted badly with the artificial hormones, but I was paranoid all the time, didn’t want to hold my daughters, even ended up in the ER. My family was terrified and thought I was going through a nervous breakdown. I got that thing removed ASAP and I’m slowly healing mentally. I’m returning to my fun and happy self one day at a time. Please stay away if you already deal with anxiety or depression! I gave it a try even after the bad reviews. These are side effects that they don’t even think about mentioning. I do NOT recommend! I would STAY away!"

For Birth Control "I have had this implant twice. I am currently 23. The first round was not too bad. I had minor mood swings, hot flashes, 25 lbs weight gain, and irregular periods. This second round just finished, and I have now gained 55 lbs and can not get rid of it. I have done Paleo, Adipex, and no-carb diets. I lose about 10 lbs max and then can not lose any more. My periods have increasingly gotten heavier and lasting 2+ weeks at a time. I also have had a bunch of hair loss, my hair used to be so thick, and it has thinned so much. My skin breaks out in horrible cystic-type acne. I am so over this BC. I used to swear by this until the second round. I have had it 6 years, and it is hell. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. Hope this helps."

For Birth Control "Worst birth control ever. I also had okay managed bipolar 1. Went on this, and within a matter of weeks became so moody and dark serious mood. I had to quit my job, screwed up my entire life and relationship. I can't even predict how I will feel hour to hour. Insane, volatile mood swings. I also bleed all the time, which is abnormal for me because not on birth control I have very light periods. I'm getting it taken out after a couple of months. The pill does the exact same thing to my mood, so I know it's the Nexplanon. I wish I never got it. If you have any mood problems, DO NOT GET IT!!"

For Birth Control "I'm going to make an appointment to get Nexplanon taken out. I've had it for almost two years now, and I have gained 30 lbs, have severe acne, my mood swings are ridiculous, and I have zero sex drive. Also, my arm where the implant is always itchy. Bothers me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!"

For Birth Control "I wanted to treat my roadblock - my period. My psych said the implant didn't affect mood, and most of her patients had it and were happy, I trusted that. I read about hormonal birth control worsening depression. My doc told me which had the least. I was going to get an IUD, but placement was too difficult for my shape. I tried twice. It's been 2 weeks on Nexplanon, and I have mood swings, irritability, face/chest/back acne, I can barely eat anything, 4 migraines in the past week after none for 2 years, putting me at risk of a stroke and more headaches, and I've been bleeding heavily for 14 days. I need to adjust to the hormones, but it could mean a big step back in remission from anxiety and depression, and functionality took years to reach. My doc, ob/gyn, and psych all made it sound like the side effects were rare or minimal. Irregular bleeding would be spotting here and there, not weeks on end. They said give it a few months, but that could be too long. I'm risking relapse."

For Birth Control "I had the implant inserted in July 2016 and have recently just got it removed. Let me just say it was amazing for the first year and a bit, and it all went downhill - from migraines to no sex drive, constant bleeding, thoughts I wouldn’t even think of having before I got my implant put in. My mood swings were insane, and I even got stretch marks because of how quickly I gained weight, and I never had the energy to do anything. I know they say everyone is different, but for me it was a nightmare. It did obviously protect me from having an unwanted pregnancy, but personally it’s not worth it if there are better alternatives. I’ve now been off the implant for less than a month, and I can already feel myself slowly getting better. My migraines seem to have disappeared, and overall, I seem to be a lot happier and like how I used to be! This is just my experience, and like I said, I know everyone is different."
