For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon in December, and it has been awful ever since. I haven’t stopped bleeding the entire time I’ve had it, so my doctors put me on a birth control pill to regulate the bleeding. Safe to say I feel crazy. The whole reason I got the bar in the arm was so I didn’t have to take a pill! Over the past few months, I have been increasingly becoming sadder and sadder. It’s to the point I don’t even want to be here anymore. I pick stupid fights with my boyfriend and get mad over things that don’t even make sense. I am terrified he’s gonna leave me because he never knows what mood I am going to be in when he calls me. It feels like I’m self-sabotaging my entire life. I read a review on here that is posted further down, the woman described it as split personality disorder and being stuck in a mood you simply cannot escape. All of that is true. I will be scheduling my removal ASAP. The side effects aren’t worth it."

For Birth Control "I wish I would've read these reviews earlier. I'm relieved to know I wasn't losing my mind and that it was this drug. It all makes sense now! I've never been so depressed in my life! I was wondering what was wrong with me and why I was losing interest in life altogether. I couldn't think, I couldn't sleep and had zero energy, mood swings... I had it removed after only 7 months due to bleeding almost incessantly for 3 straight months. I guess it makes great birth control if you can never have sex, lol. I feel like it has damaged my relationship with a very special person. I would spot all the time and think it stopped, but when it came to intercourse, it was like a full-on period. We tried several times and it kept happening. I've never been more embarrassed and mortified. It was a fairly new relationship, and this drug has taken a huge part of what should have been great about it away from me. I'm so disgusted and angry that they can even sell this."

For Birth Control "Worst birth control out there. It’s completely changed who I am and how I feel in the worst way. I can’t ever feel normal on it, and it causes mood swings so bad that it’s destroying my relationship."

For Birth Control "I had Nexplanon from 2017-2020 and had no issues with it. I had my old implant removed and replaced in February 2021, and I have had a massive change in mood since it was put in. From the next day, I found myself struggling to concentrate on anything, staring into space for long periods of time, very low mood. It’s gotten progressively worse since then, I cry when I wake up and cry myself to sleep every day pretty much. I have no interest in socializing with anyone, even speaking on the phone is hard. I’ve had a lot of thoughts about harming myself, which at 29 I haven’t experienced since I was a teenager. I’ve not been able to concentrate on work or do anything, most of my days are spent struggling to get out of bed. I feel like a shell of who I was, and it’s quite scary how much my personality has changed since getting this thing in. The mood change itself is contraception enough because I feel absolutely hideous. Do not recommend, counting the days till I get this thing out."

For Birth Control "Wow, where to start!! Feel like I’ve had every side effect: depression, lack of sleep, intense headaches, migraines, no sex drive whatsoever, tender boobs, and mood swings. And for me, the massive one was swollen lady parts - where I couldn’t do anything!! Walking or sitting just hurt. Lying down was the only thing that was comfortable but not realistic with children. Felt like that (what I can imagine as) I was having a prolapse with everything going to fall out of me."

For Birth Control "I would 100% not recommend Nexplanon. My period was so irregular. I wore tampons for more than a year. I had zero sex drive and mood swings galore. I kept hoping and waiting until the day my body would adapt. After about a year and a half, I decided to get that thing out of my arm. I’ve had the IUD for three months now, and I absolutely love it. I feel like myself again. I want to have sex with my boyfriend. I’m not bleeding anymore!! The insertion really sucked, but it was totally worth it. IUD for the win!!"

For Birth Control "I would not recommend. Has pretty much ruined my life. My periods have been going on for weeks, up to months long, along with brown, bloody, and liquidy discharge. I’ve had horrible mental health, including suicidal thoughts, worsened depression, anxiety, and obsessive thoughts. I’ve had mood swings and gained around 5 lbs even on a healthy diet and exercise every day. My 'you know what' has had a horrible smell. I’ve tried everything from medication, figuring out my pH level, wearing cotton panties, to taking showers often, and still, there is a very bad odor, especially from my discharge and period blood. The cramps are debilitating, and I couldn’t even walk. The application area has ached ever since I got it, and I’ve had migraines constantly. If your body is sensitive to extreme hormonal changes, you have depression or any mental illness, or sensitive in general, I would not recommend this. It has been the worst experience of my life, getting it removed soon."

For Birth Control "It was horrible, not motivation for everything! Ruining my relationship with my partner, now ex. I bled since the day I started it, November 22, since the day I got it removed, April 7. My libido was gone, I was no longer sexually interested. I was depressed, suicidal, the mood swings were so bad, dizziness, weakness, and a lot of sleeping. I felt like I would just sleep my life away, but at least I’m not pregnant. It’s different for everyone, but I 100% do not recommend."

For Birth Control "I’m a teen, and after I had my baby, doctors pressured me to get on Nexplanon and told me it would stop my periods, so I got the implant on January 7th, 2021. In the beginning, everything was fine. About a week after getting the implant, I started my period, and the longest it has stopped for has been 5 days. It’s now April 6, 2021. I’ve been suffering with depression, BPD, and anxiety, but ever since getting on this implant, it has skyrocketed. I’m always depressed, I get anxious all the time. I’ve been having the worst thoughts, hate my body image, and my overall mental health is the worst it’s ever been. I would never recommend this to anybody. I feel like I’m living in a nightmare. Constant mood swings, always mad, horrible acne, suicidal thoughts. I'd rather be pregnant again than to use this. Doctors should really express to people with a history of bad mental health that it will make a horrible impact on your mental health. I’m getting this removed within the next week."

For Birth Control "Don't do it. This thing should come with a health warning. I have had the implant for 6 months and have bled every day since I got it, not even light bleeding that you could live with, heavy bleeding. My mood has changed, I am normally a very positive, easy-going person. Since having this inserted, I spend most of my days crying, getting angry-I am not an angry person-and feeling suicidal, and that is scary. It has got to the point where my two kids are even asking, 'Are you okay today, mummy? Why are you crying, mummy?' I have spent days just sitting, crying, or extremely anxious. I have contacted medical services to get it removed and have been put on a waiting list. Also, I have put on over 20 lbs, considering that I haven’t been overeating, and no matter what I do, weight does not shift. My advice would be to stay clear, the implant is purely awful and just not worth it."

For Birth Control "I've been on Nexplanon for 4 months at this point, and I've been bleeding 95% of the time. To say that it's “inconvenient” is to say NOTHING. More than that, my mental health is a complete mess right now. I went from being a light, positive, energetic person that brings happiness to everyone around to a totally crazy one. Mood swings, depression, hysterical crying for a reason and no reason at all, suicidal thoughts... all of these are my besties right now. I wake up with them in the morning, and I go to sleep with them at night. I pushed away everyone... my friends, my family, my fiancé. We had the most beautiful relationship that now turned into constant fights and misunderstandings, and all because of me. I didn't really link all of that to the implant at first, but after reading other women's experiences, I can definitely see a lot of similarities, which led me to the decision to remove it ASAP. I have my appointment in 4 days, and I honestly can't wait to become myself again."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon implant put in right before I went to college. I thought that the mood swings, impulsivity, anger, and overall lack of control over my emotions were the product of being a freshman in college. A year later and it has only gotten worse. I have no control over my emotions, I sob hysterically over little things, I have constant anger and aggression, depressive episodes, and I experience irregular bleeding, breast tenderness, and back pain. I barely recognize myself at this point. I'm getting this implant removed ASAP and looking into other forms of birth control. I truthfully believe something is wrong with this method of birth control. It is not worth"

For Birth Control "I got on Nexplanon 5 months after getting in a relationship. I have been on it for about a year now. Thinking back, I remember myself being really happy before it. As soon as I got on this birth control, I felt like everything went downhill. I am really depressed. I cry randomly, I get sad at least every day. I have a lot of good things going on for myself. I just got hired for a job I've been wanting for a while. I was really happy about it for about an hour, then the rest of the day my mood changed. I was crying and didn't know why. I have been thinking the worst. Also, I now feel like I don't even want to be with my boyfriend even though he treats me good. I just don't want to be close to anyone. I have pushed everyone away. I've isolated myself. I get bad mood swings. I am mostly irritated and sad every day. It has been horrible for me. It might work for some, but for me, it hasn't, so I'm going to schedule an appointment to get it removed."

For Birth Control "I started getting terrible side effects. Ridiculous mood swings, rage, social anxiety (I'm usually a social butterfly), depression, suicidal thoughts. I got a period/bleeding/spotting for 30 days straight, constantly exhausted, fatigued, lost my sex drive, very constipated and bloated, nausea. Because of the way I was reacting, I at times thought I was pregnant, so add in constant pregnancy scares. Hair was shedding like crazy. I have now fallen out of love with my boyfriend, I am unsure if this relationship will survive. He has been nothing but absolutely supportive and caring, but I've tried to break up with him at least 6 times in the last 2 months. I got the implant out after 3 months and now am on nothing. Everyone is different, trust your body and gut. Nothing says 'effective birth control' better than being super gassy, bloated and constantly cramping from not being able to poop around your new significant other, lol – can't get pregnant if you don't want to have sex, lol."

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon inserted right before I got married last April 2020. It has been horrible. Mood swings, depression, periods every other week (at least 2 a month). I made an appointment to get it removed this month because I can't take the negative side effects anymore. I'm losing myself. I did gain weight, but I was able to lose around 10 pounds, but it took me forever! And there is still quite a bit more weight I want to lose, and it just is not coming off. I'm bloated almost every day, whether I'm on my period or not, and my emotions have been all over the place. Can't wait for this nightmare to be over. No more synthetic hormones for me."

For Birth Control "I was on this for 6 years and got it removed 3 years ago. My period is still highly irregular, to the point that it is affecting my mental health. I have mood swings, I've lost some hair and firmness in my face. I'm only 33 and wish to have a normal period... I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It did not improve my quality of life, it only made it worse..."

For Birth Control "Had Nexplanon for 6 weeks in 2015. Worst decision of my life. 1st week, arm sore at insertion, became painful, and then couldn't use that arm. Shooting pain, couldn't sleep on left side, and strength gone. Awful mood swings, hair thinned, plus 15 lbs in 2 weeks, bled horribly, large clots, always tired, heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, and no energy. All new symptoms. Became depersonalized and felt outside of my body looking in. One minute was intense emotions: sadness or rage, then emptiness. Horrible thoughts or blankness... don't wish that on anyone. Went to the ER twice to get checked for extreme bleeding, barely left the house. The tech looked for a sac, couldn't explain my 8-9 weeks pregnant thickened uterine lining. Said it was very strange. My doctor wanted me to keep it longer, but I was falling asleep, even sitting up, worried my 3-year-old and 7-month-old would get hurt, seriously concerned for their safety. Also got some acne. Removal day, I felt better, and in 1 week almost back to normal."

For Birth Control "Nexplanon is not worth the mental toll it takes on your daily life. I'm willing to cut it out of my own arm at this point. I'm constantly pushing away my loved ones every night. I have had more mood swings and suicidal thoughts than my entire life and I have a good partner, promoted to my dream job and none of those things matter anymore. The joys in life are gone. It's like having split personalities with this product. The one I got four years ago was great and I would only cry at stupid things. This time around I can't stand to be alive. Don't do it. Find another way there is something wrong with this product."

For Birth Control "I got the implant Dec 5, 2020, and now, in January, I’m calling my gyno to get it taken out. Full disclosure, I don’t seem to do well with hormonal birth controls. The only one I’ve ever taken where I reacted okay was Levora. Anyways, the reason I’m taking it out is because within a month, I’ve gained 10 lbs, my hair is falling out, and I’ve had severe mood swings. It’s also made me slightly suicidal. Everyone reacts differently, but if you’re sensitive to birth control, reconsider before getting this one."

For Birth Control "DO NOT get this. Since May, I have had probably 4 weeks where I’ve not bled. My skin wasn’t ever perfect, but it is now horrific (cystic acne) - which has scarred my face. Uncontrollable extreme mood swings - depression, severe anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. Awful lower back pain, literally a 7-month period with how you feel, craving food/bloating. I will be having this removed, but seriously - save yourself the pain. I completely rushed the decision to have Nexplanon and just read about how it works/possible side effects (which sounded minor/like the pill), however, I wish I had read people’s personal experiences rather than facts about the contraceptive. This obviously is a fantastic contraceptive because you would not have sex if you bled like I have for the past 7 months. 10/10 would NOT recommend - don’t do it, girls!!!"

For Birth Control "This birth control is the worst birth control I’ve ever tried. I developed tics for a short time, more anxiety and depression, mood swings, hair loss, extremely dry skin, deep muscle pain, RLS, high blood pressure, high heart rate, heart palpitations, fatigue, obsessive-compulsive thoughts and tendencies (I convinced myself that if I ate, I would have a panic attack/restless leg episode. I ate one chicken strip per day for 2 months and lost 30 lbs, this is only one example, there are plenty more.) and the one I expected, constant bleeding for 4 months. I do not recommend this birth control if you have anxiety or depression. If you suddenly develop RLS and can’t find anything about it on the internet, there are resources to help. Look for the Southern California RLS Support Group. Just look up Restless Leg Syndrome, then post about your experience. So many people will help you."

For Birth Control "Loved the Nexplanon implant until I gained 15 pounds within a year! I never had bad periods or acne, but I had horrible mood swings and hot flashes. I tried to ignore them, and then when I realized I was putting on so much weight (I'm normally a very petite person), I had it taken out. It just wasn't worth all of the weight gain to me, especially because I was eating healthy and trying to take the weight off, and it seemed like nothing helped. Definitely don't recommend it. I ended up getting back on the pill."

For Birth Control "The worst experience of my entire life!! I have always struggled with anxiety a little, but I have always been on some kind of contraception since an early age due to acne, and looking back, I don’t think the hormones ever really helped my anxiety. But this time last year, I was so happy, the happiest I had ever been. I then got the implant, and the nightmare of side effects started. • extremely emotional • thrush • extreme acne/oily hair • low libido • EXTREME anxiety • awful intrusive thoughts • weight gain • my arm where the implant is itches constantly. I never write reviews, but I don’t want anyone to feel how I have for the past 10 months."

For Birth Control "This thing has made me insane. Hot flashes, constant bleeding for nearly two months, mood swings, and I’m not talking like little ones. I mean straight happy to completely psychotic over the littlest things. I have never felt so enraged over anything in my life, it’s scary. I also get dizzy and sick randomly. I’m actually scared to drive because I feel like I’m going to pass out at the wheel. I’ve passed out more than once just from standing up. This is a horrible option, and I’d advise anyone considering getting it not to. For your health in every aspect, your family and loved ones, please do not get this little lump of nightmares implanted into your arm."
