For Birth Control "I hate this birth control. I have never been so sad, moody, and mean in my life! No, I haven’t gotten pregnant, but I have had all the symptoms as if I were. My periods come and leave when they like, as well as hurt like contractions. The whole experience was horrible! I’m getting this removed. I’m so glad to have come across this forum. I was feeling real lunaticish."

For Birth Control "I have only had the Nexplanon implant a short while, and I am planning on having it removed on Monday. All I have done is cry-for no reason at all. I have blind fits of rage-for no reason at all. I have bled constantly since day 3 post-insertion. I have never been a sad or negative person, but since having Nexplanon, I can barely drag myself out of bed in the morning. I wake up crying and go to bed the same way. My husband is completely freaked out. His lovely, caring partner has been replaced with a depressed, angry she-hulk."

For Birth Control "If you are on any kind of antidepressant, I do not suggest getting the Nexplanon implant. Before getting it implanted, I didn't see any literature on drug interactions between Nexplanon and SSRIs, which I am on to treat depression and anxiety. Within days of getting the implant in, I became intensely and actively so, so depressed about life (how I would be off my meds). I attempted to cope for a few days, thinking it would wear off, but it didn't. I called my gynecologist's office asking to schedule an appointment for removal, and the nurse over the phone suggested I 'wait it out another few weeks to see if it resolves.' I made an appointment for the same week to remove the Nexplanon implant. Within 48 hours, I felt myself again."

For Birth Control "This Nexplanon was the most horrible form of birth control I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried several for heavy periods/birth control. Not only did I have a mental breakdown, end up in a state of delirium, thus biting my girlfriend, leaving a scar to this day. I also was on my period for an entire year with on-and-off infections. Definitely would never recommend to anyone, especially to someone with mental health issues. Made it hard to get through the year I did have it. Thought the bleeding would stop, but it never did, so I had to get it out. Love my IUD now!!"

For Birth Control "This was the worst thing I have ever done to myself. I am a very happy, positive, and bright person. I laugh for no reason and have a very strong will. Nexplanon, or I'd better say hormonal contraceptive, ruined me. I turned into the most negative person on this planet. It is so hard for me to control the stream of my negative thoughts. Initially, I thought, I fight, I am strong, I can deal with this. A year-and-a-half battle and I lost it when I realized I am losing my relationship with everyone. I have been to several doctors to get medications to stop my abnormal bleedings. I had another hormonal pill that made me feel even worse. I have to admit that adding extra progesterone on top to stop my abnormal bleedings was the worst thing to do. I tried an antidepressant to help me settle, nope, I got worse. Either anxious like hell or numb and sad. Today, I decided to take this monster out of me. No more anxiety, no more tears, I want to be happy."

For Birth Control "I like that I'm not bleeding anymore... But in all honesty, this birth control sucks. I asked the doctor if Nexplanon would affect my anxiety and depression. I was told it wouldn't, which was obviously a load of rubbish. I've been doing research after research, trying to figure out why I feel even worse than I ever have. Finally, I found this forum, which confirmed my worries. Nexplanon has caused me depression, I've had panic attacks after panic attacks - one so bad it put me into a mild seizure. It has affected my anxiety even more than my depression. One day I feel fine, the next day I spend all day trying to calm myself down. Migraines have been unbearable. I have no sex drive. And it's been affecting my entire life. I have nobody to talk to because of my crazy mood swings. My relationship is extremely rocky. I didn't gain weight, but I lost it, which is worse for me. I actually had a nice body, now I can't even look at myself without feeling disgust. Thank you all for your experiences. I'm definitely getting this thing removed."

For Birth Control "I had Implanon before Nexplanon with no issues. Since June 2017, I feel like my entire life has slowly started to fall apart. I have no sex drive. I have gained 40 pounds. I have wicked depression, anxiety, and brain fog, along with 72-hour migraines. These are caused by pseudotumor cerebri. This means I have excess pressure from fluid in my brain! The ophthalmologist specifically told me that this is common in birth control users. If I could, I would get it removed NOW, but I am waiting in line until the end of September, and I just hope that all of this goes away and I can get back to living my life as usual."

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for 2 years now and getting it removed next month. I gained 100+ pounds. I have bad anxiety attacks. I'm depressed almost every day, if not every other day. It does prevent pregnancy! BUT it's high dangerous mentally and physically. Took a toll on my body BAD."

For Birth Control "I have been on Nexplanon for a year now. I don’t ever have a period, which is nice, but with that came severe depression, anxiety, HORRIBLE weight gain, mood swings, acne, and fatigue. I am planning on getting it out next month. I do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "Today marks a year since I got the Nexplanon inserted. One thing I can say is it definitely prevents pregnancy. However, that is the only positive. Well, that and not having a period. The negatives outweigh the positives, though. I have a history with depression, after getting Nexplanon inserted, I felt that I was no longer myself. I snap over the smallest things. My anxiety is through the roof. I hate, hate, hate it because I used to be very active, and in one year, I have gained 40 lbs! Yes, when I got on the Nexplanon, I was 140 lbs, and I am now at 190 lbs! You can only imagine the depression I’ve gone through because of my body change. Stretch marks everywhere. I’m so ready to take back control of my life and body. It’s different for everyone, but I definitely do not recommend."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon put in January of 2018. For my 1st year, no periods after a week of getting it put in. No cramps. Also, I lost weight and it helped with my migraines. Best of all, I didn’t get pregnant. Then my 2nd year hit, I was bleeding. Also, my depression was really bad. I felt like I wasn’t myself. I remember my obgyn telling me I was going to spot or bleed a little, but this went on for weeks. So by the time I called them, I had my period for 4 weeks and they told me it’s normal to have a period up to 6 weeks on this implant. So I waited, then it got to the 3rd or 4th month of my period and I called my obgyn. I was given another birth control pill to counteract this one, which didn’t do anything. I would have to buy 4 boxes of tampons every 2 1/2 weeks. Then it came to my last month, I started getting really bad cramps (I got sent home from work), got sick, lost and gained weight, lost my sex drive, and my depression got worse that last month. So I scheduled to get it removed ASAP! I do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "From months 1-7 on Nexplanon, I was feeling fine... Five days ago, I began to have a creeping anxiety; my fear of death and worrying about things far out of human understanding or control was insurmountable. My family and I do not have a history of anxiety or depression. I then began to correlate Nexplanon to these little anxious worries that had been filling my head since I got it. I got my period four days ago and immediately began crying uncontrollably four times a day for the past four days. I had severe anxiety and almost had another panic attack when I was at the gym. The only reason I found out about the severe depression and anxiety that were side effects was because of reviews from women like yourselves. I am on day one without Nexplanon, and I still have some anxiety left over as it’s leaving my system. Do not listen to the Nexplanon company that says only a measly 5-6% statistic of women feel depression and anxiety from taking it. I have read hundreds who say the opposite."

For Birth Control "I had a horrible time on the Nexplanon implant, and I don’t want anybody to go through the experience I did. I was 18 years old when I was sold on the idea of the Nexplanon implant by my OBGYN. I wish I knew then what I know now so I could avoid the whole mistake. I didn’t know hormones in BC affect your chemical balance in your brain most of the time. I went through severe depression, really dark thoughts, erratic thoughts, and huge weight gain. The implant poked my skin and left me with a scar (I got after removing it) that reminds me of the horrible emotional trauma I went through. I'm still recovering from the mental state I was in while on it. Instead, I looked into Kyleena. It lasts 5 years and protects great against pregnancy. It doesn’t affect my mood, no weight gain, and I can’t feel it. I know BC works differently, but save the risk and avoid Nexplanon. I learned the hard way that it sucks - take my advice!"

For Birth Control "At first, I loved Nexplanon! I lost weight (which I hear is rare) and didn’t see any bad side effects. Man, did that change. My appetite was so bad that I could barely stomach a meal a day; I lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks! This was NOTHING compared to what followed. My period came at 2 weeks after insertion and stayed for 4 weeks until removal. I became extremely moody, irritable, and insecure-my anxiety was crippling; I found myself sobbing over issues created in my head. I felt so sad about my life to the point where I had suicidal thoughts. (I have a very beautiful life and normally I’m happy with where I am.) I struggled with anxiety and depression years before, but even at its worst, it was never this bad! Finally, I had it removed and I got Paraguard (the copper IUD instead). I really wish I took the bad reviews more seriously. PLEASE do your research, and if you have ever struggled with mental health, PLEASE examine all your other birth control options!"

For Birth Control "I got this horrible torture device (Nexplanon) put in my arm about a year ago, and within a few days of having it, I started getting severely depressed, and it wasn’t like a normal depression/sadness. I started to feel like I had no emotions at all, like I was numb to the world. Had absolutely no sex drive at all. And bled (and am still bleeding) at all times. I have a constant UTI (probably from all the tampons), and I have gained about 65 pounds. My skin is covered in acne. I know everyone is different, but ladies, if you are considering this form of birth control, please think again! It not only affects you but also the people around you! My boyfriend thinks I am a completely different person ever since I got this! As far as contraception, it works great, but I’m done. I shouldn’t have gotten this removed a long time ago!"

For Birth Control "Do not use it! I didn’t get pregnant, but that’s the only plus. I gained 30-40 pounds, bleed every day, headaches, nausea, indigestion. All that I could deal with because it is so effective. What I CAN'T deal with is the anxiety and depression. It’s absolutely awful, so I am getting it removed in a couple of weeks, and I am so excited I can hardly wait. I’ve had it over a year, and I can honestly say one of the worst decisions ever. I will be back on the pill."

For Birth Control "I felt the need to share my story with other women looking for a birth control. Please do your research and read the reviews before getting on any birth control. Nexplanon has a lot of side effects. When you get on a birth control, you know that there will be some side effects, but if it affects your mental health, then you need to re-evaluate your options. I had it for two and a half years, and it was very effective as far as keeping me from being pregnant, but I only had my period once, that was when I first got it inserted. In addition, I was having a lot of migraines, weight gain, depression, mood swings, low sex drive, and nausea. I got it removed, and I must say that I am in such a better mood now. I still barely have a period, and it has been 3 months, but my physician said it takes about 6 months for your hormones to get back to normal after removal. I am so thankful that I don’t have it anymore because I am at peace with myself and my family."

For Birth Control "This has been the worst experience with birth control ever. I used to be so happy, and I had the privilege of not really experiencing depression. Ever since I've been on Nexplanon, I became so severely depressed and have such dark thoughts. I have crazy mood swings, and I'm super irritable now. I'm having this taken out in hopes of returning to normal. It works as birth control, sure, but is it worth it having that many hormones in your body and essentially scarring your mental health? Not for me. Also, I gained 15 pounds."

For Birth Control "I have been an emotional wreck being on this birth control, having severe depression, sleepless nights. All I wanna do is cry every day and don’t care about anything or anybody around me. I'm feeling super sick and helpless, always feel like throwing up, severe insomnia, seeing and hearing things, being very afraid that someone is going to harm me. I’m always super terrified. I try to sleep, but I jump really bad when I try to fall asleep. And I get migraines. This is not a good birth control for me - it messes you up physically, mentally, and emotionally. I would not recommend anyone to take this birth control AT ALL. It also gives you heart and chest problems. My husband and I were trying to have a baby, but it won’t work, it will take a while after being in the arm for 3 years. This ruins your life, no doubt about it. :("

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for about 2 months now. I decided to get it because I would always forget to take my birth control pills. I had no side effects on the pills, so I figured I would be fine with the implant. BOY, WAS I WRONG... I have been constantly bleeding for 2 months and have been wearing tampons every day since I got this thing. My acne has worsened, and I have become so depressed. I'm usually a very happy and outgoing person, but since Nexplanon, my mood is always low, and I have no motivation to do anything. The depression is so bad, and the mood swings make me so irritable and angry, and I will cry at nothing for hours. I'm getting this removed soon and DO NOT GET IT, and if you do and it affects you like this, GET IT TAKEN OUT!"

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon implant a year ago. The thought of it was awesome, because I didn’t have to worry about getting pregnant. And I didn’t have to worry about taking a pill every day. I just made an appointment to get it removed! With the implant, I cry, I’m mad all the time, I yell at my family and make them not want to be around me. I’m tired all the time, I even get on my own nerves with my negativity. I have 0 motivation to do anything. I highly don’t recommend this to anyone!!"

For Birth Control "I am 21 years old and have had Nexplanon for about 6 months now, and I HATE IT. I need to get it out of me ASAP! I've been bleeding for 5 months straight, and on top of that, I've turned into one crazy woman. I've become so, so, so depressed, I cry almost every day. It's crazy how that little thing in your arm can change you entirely. I feel like I've lost myself. Do not get this birth control!!"
