For Birth Control "HATE IT!! Nexplanon does its job at preventing pregnancy, I give it that, but the side effects are terrible. I've had it since August 2014. I've bled 3 weeks out of every month since I got it, constantly have a headache, nausea, weight gain, always bleeding, period cramps are worse than I had before I got the implant, all around terrible. I would not recommend it to anyone. Getting it removed as soon as I get insurance again."

For Birth Control "I've been having a pretty heavy period for about 2 weeks now, where I actually still need to use tampons. I've never experienced anything like this and plan on getting it removed as soon as possible. Very unsatisfied and can't stomach the thought of always bleeding like this. It has made me so weak and the cramps have been nauseating. Can't wait for this piece of garbage to be out!!"

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon implant because I needed something very reliable. I loved the idea of not having to take a pill every day but quickly changed my mind after getting it. I got it on Sept. 18, 2015, and it is now Nov. 19. These last two months have been terrible. Right after getting it, I got a bad yeast infection. Then, once I got rid of that, I started the period from hell on Oct. 8 that is still going. It started very heavy, with terrible cramping, and then went back and forth between light spotting and mild bleeding but still hasn't stopped completely. Now I have stitches in my arm where the implant used to be. I would not recommend this birth control."

For Birth Control "I've had this thing in my arm for a year and 4 months. I bleed 3 weeks at a time, I may go a whole week without bleeding before I start up again. I am very hormonal and difficult to be around. I have always been fun and outgoing, I have turned into a crab since I've been on this birth control. Last week, I started passing clots and bleeding extra heavy, the cramps were out of this world. I literally could not move. I called my doctor to hear this is completely normal, and yes... after a year! I told her I wanted it removed, and now I have to be counseled on the matter. I do not recommend this to anyone..."

For Birth Control "Every single negative and terrible side effect you will get if you take this birth control. I am 5'5, usually weigh 100-105. I took this for 7 months, gained 20 pounds. Doesn't hurt to get inserted. The only good thing about this birth control is that you don't have to remember to take a pill. I bloat, cry, bleed, cramp, and can't sleep every day. When I first started, I had terrible migraines, but that went away after 3 months. I bled more the past 5 months than I would in a year not being on birth control. I don't know why I haven't gotten this taken out of my arm sooner. I get it out in 1 week and will be trying Beyaz or Lolestrin."

For Birth Control "This was an awful experience for me. Bleeding for 28 days a month was terrifying and miserable. I cramped 24/7 and had weight gain. I gained 20 lbs within a year, and I still exercised and kept an eye on what I ate. My periods beforehand were wonderful! I recently had it removed."

For Birth Control "So a year ago when I got this, I saw a lot of bad reviews. One lady said she itched every time she would sweat. I thought she was overreacting. I sweat and get hives that look and feel like mosquito bites all over. I don't get my cycle anymore, but I cramp bad as hell, and that's the only reason I got it."

For Birth Control "After I had my son in Jan 2013, I needed birth control. I could never remember to take the pill, the patch always falls off. I hate needles, and so on. So my midwife suggested this. In March 2013, I had it put in. I was moody for the first month of having this put in, and I never get moody while I'm in PMS. It caused unbelievable headaches and cramps! It made my periods 30 days long. I would have 1 month on period and 1 month off, which I believe is the reason it kept more kids from coming with me. No time for sex when you bleed for a month straight. I finally said enough is enough after calling and calling my doctor, and her saying, 'It will even out, it's normal.' 2 years later, I had it removed! I couldn't be happier with that choice. Less headaches."

For Birth Control "I've been on the Nexplanon for almost 2 years now. There has not been one month where I have gone a full week without having my period. These last two months I have had my period consistently, cramping, weight gain, sharp pain at the injection site, and increased amounts of ovarian cysts. I will never use this implant again and will be sticking to the pill."

For Birth Control "I was so excited because everyone said it was so good. But now it's been 6 months. At first, it was awesome. But now I have gained weight, and even when I don't eat or only eat salads and eat healthy, I can't lose weight. And lately, I'm extremely irritable, and my depression has gotten much worse than before. Now my menstrual cycle lasts up to ten days, and this month it stopped for 2 weeks, and I started spotting again. And I've always had bad cramps during my menstrual cycle, but now it's all the time and twice as bad sometimes. I used to recommend this, but now I don't anymore. I'm going to make an appointment to have it removed this coming week."

For Birth Control "I had a horrible experience with Nexplanon. Potential side effects were not disclosed to me, and when I brought them up to my Nurse Practitioner later, she completely downplayed them and refused to take the implant out of my arm. On this birth control, I had 2 month-long periods with only a couple of weeks in between. The periods were intense - significant bleeding, bloating, cramping through the whole duration of the period. I felt anxious, nauseous, dizzy, and tired on this BC method. I was told the symptoms become more mild over time, but after almost a year, this still did not happen. The first time I requested this be taken out of my arm, I was convinced to give it more time. The second time I went to the NP, I did not take no for an answer and was extremely adamant about needing this out of my arm. Please, ladies, do your own research because the medical establishment does not have your best interest in mind when it comes to this."

For Birth Control "Well, let's see. I would not recommend this to anyone. Why? You like being bipolar II? Because that is what you get. Do you like your monthly period for a month with 2 weeks of no period? Because that is what you will get. My OB/GYN lied to me. She said this was better than the pill (I was having massive mood swings as well as really bad cramps being on the pills, and I would always forget to take them) and told me that this birth control method would be the way to go. I lost my health insurance, so for almost 3 years, I had to deal with having suicidal thoughts nearly almost every day, being over-emotional, anxiety through the roof, mood swings, and a period for a month with 2 weeks off (AND NO, IT IS NOT SPOTTING). I currently just got my health insurance back, so in September (because that is when I can get in), I am getting this awful thing out of my arm. It's okay because now I am going to be more cognizant of what I put in my body. NEVER AGAIN!!! I know people are different, but nope, NEVER AGAIN!!"

For Birth Control "I started Nexplanon 2 1/2 years ago. Severe mood swings! One day I will be happy as can be, and the next I’m suicidal. I’ve blown up on family and friends over nothing. I will have weeks where I’m so depressed and angry, and the next week I feel fine. I also noticed I cried more and got more sensitive. This birth control works and will keep you from getting pregnant, but I have suffered from cramps and bleeding about once every two months. Headaches have been more common and also acne. I do not recommend Nexplanon unless you want to feel bipolar and manic."

For Birth Control "The Nexplanon has been a terrible year experience for me! Yes, it prevented me from getting pregnant; however, the side effects caused me to feel it was not worth using. My first period on the Nexplanon lasted over 6 weeks with a steady flow. Since then, I’ve gotten my period every two weeks, and it lasts 2 to 3 weeks each time. Also, I’ve gained 35 pounds in 7 months. I’ve used oral contraceptives for 6 years before making the switch, and I have never had drastic weight gain. I’ve been a steady weight for 8 years. Another problem I’ve had is it causes me to get terrible cramps on my period. I’ve never experienced intense cramping until I’ve been on the Nexplanon. I highly recommend not going with the Nexplanon."

For Birth Control "I have had the Nexplanon implant nearly 3 years after having my son. Initially, I noticed that I started experiencing headaches, period pains but without the periods, and I thought I could bear this. I liked the idea of not having any periods for the whole 2 years, but as soon as I started to bleed, I noticed it was irregular. I didn't like this at all and sometimes noticed some blood clots. I remember at one point I had to go to the hospital for breathlessness, tiredness, and had never experienced this before. I have noticed I continue to get chest pains, and I have had muscle aches all over my body almost every day. I have also had panic attacks too. I have also gained weight, and I don't easily do. It's due to be removed in 2 months, but I am scared to get it removed because of fear of contracting Covid-19. Lately, I have become bloated, have pain in my left lower abdomen, and my breasts are sore. I have no idea how I can get this removed without risking my health. I want it out!"

For Birth Control "The first 7 months everything was fine, no bleeding or spotting. Then I started to have abdominal pain. I complained, but the doctors said it was normal to have slight cramping sometimes. Then the cramps started to become so severe. It felt like labor cramps at times. I was in and out of my OB-GYN offices and the hospital for the pain. Finally, I had an ultrasound done, and my uterine lining had become so thick. They scheduled an appointment to go in and clean it out. But before they could do that procedure, I made them remove it. That was on a Friday, the next day, the cramps had already eased up. That following Wednesday, I was at work and felt like I was in labor. On my way home, I felt a big gush as if my water had broken. Come to find out it wasn't water, it was blood. It was all of my backed-up uterine lining from not getting my period for a year. It was the worst experience of my life. It was almost exactly a year to date when I had it removed too."

For Birth Control "I’ve had the Nexplanon implant for almost a year now after I switched off from the Depo Provera shot. The first several months, I was fine. No bleeding, cramps, or mood swings. But just recently, I started spotting, and I noticed my anxiety has gotten worse with it, and I can hardly sleep at night. It’s to the point where I feel like I need to go to the emergency room every day now. My chest feels like it’s vibrating, my hands sometimes get numb, I get these weird pulsating feelings all around my head. I went to the doctor and they all tell me it’s just anxiety, which I already know, and they just prescribe me pills that do absolutely nothing. I’m at the point where I want to cut this implant out of me. Hopefully when I get it out, I’ll feel back to normal again."

For Birth Control "I was 16 when I got Nexplanon, and I right away felt like I was a different person. I was angry, I hated life, and my depression was through the roof. My periods the first 3 years were pretty regular, but the periods always would last for 2 weeks+ and tremendously painful cramps. When I turned 18, it was time to get a new one, again, I felt the same symptoms but about 30 times worse. I never changed my eating habits and gained a little over 30 lbs, and the weight is impossible to shave off. Sex drive is a no, and my periods are consistently going with extreme flow and horrible cramps. My anxiety is at an all-time high, depression is even worse than before, I’m overall just not the same bubbly girl I was. My body’s always in pain, and not to mention, not till recently, I started blood clotting consistently for 2 weeks at a time and then switch back to a heavy flow, and I barely get 2 days between periods. I will not be choosing to ever use this birth control again. I recommend you don’t either, more harm than good."

For Birth Control "I do not recommend the Nexplanon implant whatsoever. When I first started Nexplanon, I bled every day for 3 months straight. It started out very heavy and eventually went to spotting. Then I had a month without a period, then I would be on for 2 months and then be off for a month. My period had been very easily triggered, sex and too much exercising have both made my period show up sooner than expected. I have had several yeast infections and bacterial infections since having this. It has messed with my mood to the point that whenever I feel down, I’m really down. I feel like I've experienced symptoms similar to pregnancy symptoms. From being overly emotional, intense cravings, cramps, and sore breasts. It has kept me from becoming pregnant, but honestly, there isn’t much that you can do when you're constantly bleeding..."

For Birth Control "I got this birth control implanted 4 weeks after my son was born. I had a C-section when I had him, so I was already bleeding when I got the implant. I bled for 4 months straight after having my son! EVERY SINGLE DAY! I then had to take the pill to regulate my cycle, and that is what stopped the bleeding, I believe. Then, a month later, I had a very bad cycle, had bad PMS symptoms, and very, very bad acne, emotional, mood really out of hand, bad cramping, etc. I bled for one week, and now it's been about 1 week off, and I'm cramping and breaking out again, so I am almost positive I am about to start bleeding again. After I had my son, I was 8 lbs under my starting weight of pregnancy, and now I am back over it. I've gained like 15 lbs in 3.5 months. I was already overweight to begin with, I do feel extra down and depressed. I am done, I am going to have this removed now. Wouldn't recommend to anyone with PCOS."

For Birth Control "I started Nexplanon over a year ago, and I loved the idea of “get it & forget it.” It was very convenient, I could go about my sex life and be worry-free. Although I recently removed the Nexplanon due to the side effects it has. I gained about 15 lbs in one year, I’m 5’0”. Right away, in the first week of insertion, you feel an increase in appetite. I didn’t get my period for months apart, in the entire year, I got my period 3 times! Convenient, yes, but I liked the security of having a period. On the weeks I was “supposed” to have my normal period, I got cramps & acne, no bleeding. You can feel the implant under your skin, and twice a month it does hurt a little. I did notice I didn’t feel pleasure nor wanted to have sex often. Since I’ve removed the implant, IMMEDIATELY, my food appetite went back to normal, and I didn’t have cravings anymore. This type of hormone isn’t for anyone, and remember: this is a Progesterone-only. I would personally not recommend it."

For Birth Control "Giving two stars only because I am not pregnant. I got my implant in February of this year and was unaffected for about two weeks. I bled for 78 days, after which it only recently has stopped. Now I am discharging from my breasts, and I have severe cramps in the morning and nights, sometimes waking me up. I never gained any weight, but my acne that began to clear up before the Nexplanon has become more persistent. My moods are awful and inconsistent. My gyno recommended the pill on top of the implant, but I am now just working up the courage to have it removed. I hate to complain so much, but I didn’t take the poor reviews seriously before deciding to go through with it. I hope anyone who reads this and decides to has a better experience."

For Birth Control "At first, I loved the Nexplanon. But after having it in for about 4 months, my periods got longer, and the time between them got shorter. I currently have it for a month straight and only get a week or two break before having it for a month again. There have even been a few times where I have had spotting in the week or two before having it for a month. My mood swings are really bad. When having my period, my cramps are really bad, and the bleeding is heavy. It gets a 10/10 for stopping pregnancy."

For Birth Control "I’ve only had Nexplanon in for about three months, but my experience is horrible. This thing has literally made me crazy, my mood swings are horrible. I get so mad, and it usually is something so small, and my blood boils. I cry so often, and I used to never cry. Not to mention, I’ve been bleeding for about a month now. It’s a bit more than spotting and is so annoying. I don’t have a whole lot of cramps. I used to have a Skyla IUD and got rid of it because of all the cramping I got and the heavy periods. I’d honestly rather have all the pain than be depressed and moody all the time. Least I’m not pregnant."
