For Birth Control "I have had Nexplanon since June 2016. The first couple of weeks was perfect, but after I started feeling nauseous, dizzy, and anxious all the time. I cannot stop sweating and had bad cramps during my period. I went to the hospital last week and have been told it's the side effect of the implant, therefore, I'll get it off next month, but don't know how I will survive all these side effects until then."

For Birth Control "I am not sure which implant I got, but I am sure it is the Nexplanon. I got this May 2015. I had a period for at least 2-3 months straight. I have gone from weighing 150 to 220 pounds. I have experienced major mood swings, feeling really low about life, horrible cramps, and headaches all the time. I still have irregular periods. Sometimes I bleed for 2 weeks or more straight, or I bleed for 4 days, stop for a day, and continue bleeding. Sometimes I don't even have a period. Everyone's body is different and reacts to birth control differently, but I recommend you not get the implant. I had an awful experience with it. I get it taken out in 7 days and I am looking forward to it. I have talked to others, and they have had an awful experience with it as well."

For Birth Control "Worst birth control ever. I have been bleeding for 3 weeks straight, with horrifying cramps that make me nauseous. I have no energy, and I sleep all the time. Getting it taken out in a couple of weeks! I'm only 16, and I've been very forgetful to take the pill, but I promise once I get back on it, I will never forget to take it again."

For Birth Control "I had this form of birth control in my arm since April 2016, and it's been the worst. My husband recently joined the Army, and we came to the conclusion that we didn't want to have babies until our lives were settled. I've been bleeding heavily since about a week after I got it, and it's July. I get migraines, gained about 10 pounds, and I'm super moody. Cramps are the worst! I also get very dizzy frequently. Wish I never got this. All these symptoms have added so much stress on top of the stress I'm already dealing with. Do not recommend at all."

For Birth Control "HATE this. I've been on this birth control for one year now. I gave it a chance. I have been bleeding for 9 out of the 12 months. Two weeks after I got it, I had massive depression that lasted for 2 weeks. I guess it was my hormones changing. Then, nonstop bleeding and cramps. Sometimes they were very light, but it was extremely annoying and expensive to be buying so many tampons. I also gained about 15 pounds over the last year, and I work out and don't overeat. It's very difficult trying to get the weight off. Don't use this. Your doctor will say it's great and you won't have to worry about taking a pill every day. DON'T do it...it's a trap."

For Birth Control "I thought it was great the first two and a half years. No period at all, which worried me at first (I spent a lot of money on pregnancy tests), but I never got pregnant. I did have a lot of headaches, and I kind of felt pregnant sometimes (sore breasts, cramping, fatigue, nausea). The last six months was hell, though. Had an ectopic pregnancy, which was caught early. Four months later, I got pregnant again and had a miscarriage. I wasn't aware that I was pregnant, though, I took a test, and it was negative right before I miscarried. I got it out and had a new one put in. The first three months I spotted nonstop, and I've had horrible anxiety problems and depression. I had sinus problems for an entire month. I'm definitely getting it out now."

For Birth Control "I wanted to wait some time before I gave an initial review. I got the implant in April and will be getting it taken out this Saturday. I will start with getting it placed, it was very short. I was given a local anesthetic, and the nurse waited for about 15 minutes until it was completely numb. That was the easy part, I had no pain at all, just some soreness at the incision site along with bruising. A week later, my hell started. I was on my period for 2 weeks straight with very bad cramps and mood swings. In month two, I had sporadic spotting and full-blown periods, hair thinning. It also caused a lack of sex drive, and I started to have headaches every day. Yes, it prevented pregnancy, but to me, it isn't worth the side effects. This thing is the worst."

For Birth Control "At first (2 months in), it was fine, no bleeding, nothing. After those two months, my periods started lasting longer and longer, up to 3 months long at a time. I hate everything about it. I'm gaining weight, my acne is at its worst point, and I have zero sex drive. I hate my life. It's living hell. My cramps are so bad that I'm crying on my bed all day. It's a stabbing pain! Honestly, pregnancy sounds a lot easier than this. The birth control ends up not being the stick in your arm but the person you become, from your looks to your personality. STAY AWAY FROM THIS."

For Birth Control "I had Nexplanon for almost 2 years after having my son. It was great from 18 months or so with no bleeding, but I noticed a lack of sex drive, mood swings, and extreme exhaustion with no ability to sleep at night. I had it taken out weeks ago because I bled 3 weeks out of the month for a few months, with horrible breast tenderness and cramps like never before. I still have all the symptoms but short periods frequently instead of long ones. I can't say I wouldn't recommend because everyone is different, but I'm not okay with any extra hormones in my body anymore."

For Birth Control "During my periods, I had intense cramps and heavy bleeding. That's why I chose the convenience of this birth control. I got my implant put in July 31st, 2015. Midway in August, I experienced intense pain while laying down, as if I literally was stabbed. As soon as I got up, I had major shedding of my walls. September 8th, I started my period, ever since then, I have been bleeding. During April, I went to my gyno, and she ran a test stating it could be an infection. Results came back, that's not the issue. I have gained almost 30 lbs during this time. I'm extremely irritable and get upset over the smallest things. I'm no longer able to self-lubricate, which makes intercourse painful. Overall, for me, it isn't worth it."

"I got the Nexplanon implant because my periods would come with extreme cramps that put me down for 4-5 days. I would sleep all the time and couldn't help but cry because I was in so much pain. So, my OB suggested a birth control, and I heard really bad things about the Depo shot, so I didn't want that, and I hadn't heard anything bad about the implant. So I went with it rather than the shot. I had the implant for three months. In the time that I had it, I had nothing but horrific migraines, cramping, and I bled for 3 weeks, stopped for 6 days, and now I've been bleeding for 30 days. I've had a headache since 2-1-16. I am an emotional wreck. I cry at the stupidest things and I get upset over nothing. I highly recommend not getting this implant."

For Birth Control "DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT GET THIS METHOD!! I got the implant on 2/10 (it's been about 3 months), and already this is the worst decision of my life. At first, I was so excited to not have to worry about pregnancy scares, forgetting to take my pill, and the nausea I would receive if I took it at the wrong time of day. But man, was I taking advantage of that. The first thing that happened was painful cramps and prolonged bleeding, my libido completely ceased to exist, and I was uninterested in sex. I noticed the weight gain, gained about 10-15 lb already!! Next, the acne came, but this was awful: cystic acne on my jaw, back, and face. Now I'm experiencing extreme depression and anxiety. Please do not get this, it's not worth the pain."

For Birth Control "The only good thing about Nexplanon is the convenience. This birth control gave me horrible acne on my jaw, my back, and my chest. I have never struggled with back acne, but after being on this birth control, I now have scars on my back from the acne being so bad. My jaw acne is horrible. The only relief I will find is taking the implant out, which is happening very soon. I have struggled with cramps constantly and finally got a HORRIBLE period that lasted for two weeks after the first year. I have horrible mood swings and anxiety on this. I have gained 18 pounds, and I've never had a problem with weight. I don't recommend this at all. I am so happy to be going back to pills."

For Birth Control "Nexplanon = the worst mistake of my life. I had it inserted in July 2014, removed in April 2015, and I'm still dealing with the side effects today - I'm now being treated for painful cysts and debilitating cramps, and I'm convinced this drug caused them. Side effects included: prolonged/heavy periods (lasting 3-4 weeks), anemia (due to periods), recurrent yeast infections (due to periods), painful vaginal fissures (due to yeast infections), lack of sex drive, constant bloating, rapid weight gain, increased appetite, acne, irritability, extreme mood swings, anxiety, and depression (honestly, who wouldn't be depressed). If you are at all sensitive to hormonal birth control, I do not recommend this drug."

For Birth Control "Stay away from this devil. I've had it for 2 years, and in that time I've had the worst experience of my life and didn't even know it was from my birth control! It's caused me to have serious stomach issues with pain and sensitivity. Back and forth to doctors to see why I'm always in pain. I can puke at any time I want, just like I was pregnant. My head is always pounding, my hair is oily, and I've gained over 50 pounds. I'm very active, even though I have no energy. I make myself walk or hike a lot! Sex? What's that? This makes me sick to think about being touched. But I did get it removed today. I will say I'm having serious leg cramps, just like I did when I first got it. At that time, I blamed it on work, but I'm now shown it was from the birth control. Don't get it!"

For Birth Control "Had the implant for 40 days, then had it removed. The whole 40 days, I had continuous bleeding and spontaneous cramping. It cost me $170 with insurance for removal, and the doctor had a nasty attitude because I disregarded his suggestion to leave it in. He said it can take up to 8 months for my body to adapt and stop bleeding. I am 30 and have a husband. I absolutely cannot wait that long, and I don't know how healthy bleeding for 8 months really is."

For Birth Control "Lasted 7.5 months, started July 2015. First couple of months spotted every couple of days and spotty acne started. Period was normal for September, but then was non-stop for all four weeks of October. Serious acne formed into rough patches all over my face. My hair thinned out to maybe half thickness. Doctor said this is all still normal because it's the first time in 13 years I'm without a daily estrogen dose, so it's normal to have pregnancy-like symptoms. Normal period in November. Two-week period in December, skin improving after help from dermatologist. January I had three separate instances of facial abscesses! As in dime-sized open infections on my face! Also, my January period lasted for 6 weeks until I had it removed in February. Awful cramps too!"

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon because of raging teen hormones, and I didn't want to get pregnant or take the pill. Ever since I got it almost 2 years ago, I have gained almost 50 pounds because of it, and I can't lose it. I also experience so many pregnancy symptoms that I can't tell the difference between the early signs and a period. Speaking of periods, mine used to last about 4 to 5 days, but now they sometimes last a month, almost 2. I barely can get a month between them. I cramp now, and I never used to. I am so moody that even my boyfriend doesn't want to talk to me sometimes because I'll verbally attack him for the smallest mistakes. I never used to do that. I would never recommend this to anybody. It'll cost me $381 to remove it."

For Birth Control "I got my Nexplanon inserted November 2015 while I was on my period on the 5th day. Ever since then (4 months later) I've bled constantly. My doctor tried giving me the pill to balance out my hormones, but no luck at all. I constantly have cramps and headaches, and sometimes heat flashes. I want it out so bad, but removal costs $150 :("

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon inserted on December 2nd of 2015, and I have bled constantly still to this day. I read a lot of stuff online that you should wait about 3 months to see if it will stop, and mine has gotten worse, if anything. I can't stand being on my period all the time, I feel gross. I don't want to have relationships with guys because it is embarrassing and gross to have to explain that I bleed constantly. I get angry over the smallest things, and I constantly have cramps and headaches. This thing is so expensive to get out, but I don't want to keep this in any longer. This has been the worst experience of my life, and I don't feel like myself anymore."

For Birth Control "Absolutely blooming awful! Have had this terrible thing in since January 2015. I kept thinking, no, I'll keep it in, give it a chance! Well, with most of the year and 2 months it's been in my arm, I've spent most of that on my period! Weight gain, something awful. Mood swings, and my doctor told me that's not possible (a male doctor, with no offense meant). How does he know? Did he have trouble with his implant too? Lol, honestly, I wouldn't even recommend this to my worst enemy! No sex drive, and I either want to cry my eyes out or feel like I have no heart because I can't cry! Spotting is putting it mildly. I have had normal discharge to brown discharge, stomach pains, cramps, much worse than usual period pains which have always been bad. Blood clots!"

For Birth Control "Nexplanon made me gain over 30 lbs. I get ridiculous cravings, crazy mood swings, and all I ever want to do is sit and watch TV since getting it in. I've never had any other kind of birth control, besides the earlier version Implanon, which I thought was better, but still had its flaws. The hubby and I are considering a vasectomy because of my experience with this birth control. Side effects: Major weight gain, cravings, it made me feel hungrier than I actually was, cramping, boob tenderness to where I thought I may have gotten pregnant, suicidal thoughts, and weird bleeding patterns. I got it out about 3 weeks ago and felt a boost in my mood the day after. Still haven't been able to drop any weight, though."

For Birth Control "I had Implanon for three years prior to this Nexplanon. I had no issues with Implanon at all. I was period-free for three years with no side effects. Now the problem with Nexplanon: I have horrible cramping and pain that lasts up to a week sometimes. It seems to be every other week now. It interferes with work and my home life, as we all know pain can make us miserable and cranky. I went to the doctor, she said it was this and just my normal period (minus bleeding). I've had periods for over 15 years and never had periods this painful! The pain is so bad that regular over-the-counter painkillers don't touch it, and I refuse to take anything stronger. The health risks from over-the-counter painkillers are bad enough. My only option? Removal."
