For Birth Control "I have had Nexplanon for almost three months now, and I hate it! I have only gotten my period once since the insertion but have very strong menstrual cramps almost every day. The first month, I would get really bad headaches, however, they have gone away. I didn't have acne before, but I am breaking out so much. I get nausea every single day, especially after meals. I have occasional discharge and funky smells down there. I am getting this taken out ASAP and going back on the pill. It's tedious having to take the pill every day, but at least it doesn't break me out, and I get regular periods."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon put in January of 2018. For my 1st year, no periods after a week of getting it put in. No cramps. Also, I lost weight and it helped with my migraines. Best of all, I didn’t get pregnant. Then my 2nd year hit, I was bleeding. Also, my depression was really bad. I felt like I wasn’t myself. I remember my obgyn telling me I was going to spot or bleed a little, but this went on for weeks. So by the time I called them, I had my period for 4 weeks and they told me it’s normal to have a period up to 6 weeks on this implant. So I waited, then it got to the 3rd or 4th month of my period and I called my obgyn. I was given another birth control pill to counteract this one, which didn’t do anything. I would have to buy 4 boxes of tampons every 2 1/2 weeks. Then it came to my last month, I started getting really bad cramps (I got sent home from work), got sick, lost and gained weight, lost my sex drive, and my depression got worse that last month. So I scheduled to get it removed ASAP! I do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I could count on one hand the number of times my boyfriend and I had sex during the first year after the insertion of the implant. It left a giant bruise on my arm, and I bled and spotted heavily for over 9 months initially, and was in a constant state of emotional distress, everything made me either really emotional or really angry. I've gained 40 pounds since, and it's easy to put on more if I'm not careful. I'm currently 26 and have never been pregnant and thought this was a good option for my busy lifestyle, but this implant has left me with absolutely no desire for sex. I'm consistently constipated and retain water. I've been on it for about two years now, and sometimes get a monthly period or at least have PMS symptoms cramping, but no more random bleeding. The worst part of it for me is dealing with the weight gain, because it does NOT want to come off."

"Insertion and removal was a breeze. Very little pain and bruising. The actual experience of the Nexplanon was horrible! I bled constantly and had cramps for 2 of the 3 years I had it in. It would fluctuate between spotting and heavy bleeding. Like 4 or 5 tampons in 8 hours, bleeding. I was anemic and had mood swings. Would not recommend personally, but obviously every body will react differently to each form of BC."

For Birth Control "I’ve had the Nexplanon implant for nearly 1 year and 2 months, and in that time I’ve been lucky enough to be off my period overall for 1 month. I’m constantly agitated and low in mood. I used to be able to do so much, and now I have constant cramping. My belly gets so bloated, my mood is all over the place. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "The first 3 months were fine, except for constant hunger, which comes with weight gain, obviously. Around the 3-month mark, I started to bleed, which didn’t worry me because they say that you can spot for a few months, however, I’ve been bleeding for 5 months, fluctuating from spotting to sometimes 5 ultra tampons a day. As soon as I think the bleeding is slowing, it comes back extremely heavy: cramps, headaches, depression, 12-pound weight gain, no sex drive at all, which has taken a toll on my relationship. I have no desire to have sex, and I mean at all! I will definitely be taking it out ASAP!"

For Birth Control "I had this inserted a couple of months ago because I figured it was an easy 3-year thing that I didn't have to remember to take daily. I have been reading all of the comments below, and I am having ALL of these symptoms, and it SUCKS. Immediate horrible cramps, eventually no period (which makes me anxious not having one), I can't STOP eating, I have gained 11 pounds so far since only inserting it 2 months ago. I always feel down, unmotivated, wanting to stay in bed, and I have NEVER been this person. My skin on my chin and around my mouth is ALWAYS dry, burning, and has zits. I am a person that hasn't had any acne issues in my 36 years of living. Bottom line, do NOT get this birth control."

For Birth Control "In a week, I will complete 2 years with Nexplanon. I have to say I thought I was delusional with the side effects I have had. I got my implant March 11, 2017. In the beginning, I was spotting for a month, and after, I barely got periods, and if I didn’t, I’d get your usual 5-7 day bleeding, very average till I reached a year and two months. I started bleeding for 3-4 weeks at a time with days in between. The cramps are painful. My periods are extremely heavy throughout the whole time. In addition, I have gained over 25 pounds since I got it inserted. My anxiety has been intense, but I not once thought it would be my implant. Now, reading these reviews, I see I’m not alone. I am calling my gyn ASAP to get this HORRIBLE thing out of my body! Initially, I was not going to comment, but these reviews helped me to learn I needed a second, third, & fourth person to tell me they felt what I have been feeling, and now I hope I can do the same for someone else. I DO NOT RECOMMEND EVER!"

For Birth Control "Had this a few years ago and needed to remove it within 6 months of insertion. I was on the pill for about 4 years before with no problems. Insertion of Nexplanon was easy. Within a month or two, I was full on depressed-not able to leave my bed, sleeping a majority of the day and night, hopeless. One reason for this was the induced IBS. I NEVER had intestinal problems before this. Sorry for the explicitness, but I couldn’t go anywhere without 3-second access to a bathroom. Diarrhea for weeks on end. TERRIBLE cramps and indigestion pains to the point that I thought I would pass out (10/10 pain scale). As soon as I got it removed, my intestinal issues mostly subsided. Still dealing with it, but not even remotely close to the problems I had on Nexplanon. I’ll also mention that it shifted from the insertion site. The nurse who removed it had to dig around my arm and through scar tissue for over 20 minutes to find it. If I could go back, I never would have gotten it."

For Birth Control "I have had the implant for 9 months now. Since I got the implant, I have had CRAZY mood swings, migraines, and severe cramping. Even my depression medications stopped working since I got the implant. At first, the doctor said wait, it will smooth out. Just got worse. For the past 3 months, I have been very nauseous as well as cramping to the point I live off Midol, and migraines that are so bad I stay in bed a lot. This was NOT the medication for me. Time for the removal in 3 weeks. Can't wait to be back to normal. I do not suggest this to anyone I know. Me, my older and younger sister all had issues to the point of removal before a year."

For Birth Control "This was the first birth control I got, and it ruined my life. Before Nexplanon, I was healthy, no allergies, nothing. My doctor recommended it, and in the first few days, I was cramping and spotting. The cramping got worse, and the spotting turned into a month-long period. I went back after a month or so to get it removed, and my doctor told me it was normal and I needed to get used to it. I decided to wait, and I would bleed for 2-3 weeks at a time, mood swings, depressed, stomach pain 24/7, and gained 15 lbs the first 4 months. Six months later, I got it removed, but I’m still in constant pain. It’s been 4 years, and I’ve been to the ER countless times, ovarian cyst surgery, and I’m now lactose intolerant, have oral allergy syndrome, endometriosis, and chronic abdominal wall pain. I can barely eat anything without having some sort of reaction/stomach pain, and I’ve had ultrasounds, CT scans, endoscopy, H. pylori tests, and all my doctors can tell me is to “take Tylenol 3 times a day” to manage the pain."

For Birth Control "For birth control, it works AMAZING at preventing pregnancy, but the garbage it comes with is not worth it. I struggle to remember taking the pill, and this implant seemed much better than IUD insertion. I got it put in, all seems well, and I get my period on time. But the period never goes away, and it's a downward spiral from there. I kid you not, I bled heavily for 7 months straight, nonstop, and suffered greatly because of it. My depression became horrible, chronically fatigued all the time, painful cramps, frequent dizzy spells, and I developed a slight iron deficiency from losing iron from so much bleeding, to the point where I had to go to the ER from almost blacking out. Do not get this product. I was an idiot who ignored the reviews and stories, thinking I’d somehow be different. Don’t make the same mistake I did."

For Birth Control "I tried to do a lot of research before getting this birth control implant, but apparently I didn't do enough. I would not recommend this birth control to anybody. In the weeks right after I had the Nexplanon inserted, I had the absolute worst mood swings. I was horribly irritable and depressed for absolutely no reason at all for about three weeks. I had some mild cramping and spotting all throughout my time on the Nexplanon, but nothing crazy like I've seen in other reviews. However, the deal breaker for me was the insane weight gain that I experienced. I gained 20+ pounds in less than 6 months on this birth control that would not come off even with a very healthy diet and regular exercise. I made the decision to get the implant removed, and it was the best decision I could have made. As soon as I got it out, I had dropped 5 pounds in three days. I started to feel like myself again. If you have weight issues, DO NOT get this birth control. You will regret it!"

For Birth Control "So I only had this birth control for 4 months, and my experience was the worst I have ever had with birth controls. First, the insertion process was a little painful, and also the healing. Followed by the scar it left. I had no periods during this period. But I did have cramping, followed by no sex drive or sensation. My anxiety got worse than ever, and eventually, I started experiencing depression to the point I started having suicidal thoughts, so I decided I had had enough and got it out. The doctor that removed it did such a bad job she cut me in all kinds of ways to remove it that I even passed out. This birth control is very dangerous."

For Birth Control "Over the past year, my PMS has been worse than it’s ever been, cramping, nausea, flu-like symptoms, mood swings affecting my marriage, my period flow was worse. I went to the OB-GYN because I thought I was premenopausal. Doc said I’m not and suggested Nexplanon to help my PMS. The implant hurt once in. After 5 days, I got pimples, food cravings, and was so bloated. The implant was painful, uncomfortable. I wanted it out. I went to the doc to get it removed, and after 1/2 hour of trying, she couldn’t find it in my arm. I ended up having surgery yesterday to remove it. I never write reviews and read a lot before I decided to do the Nexplanon. I was told I could try it and if I didn’t like it, that “it will be easy to take it right out.” I know everyone is different with pain and side effects. Just make sure you think it through and decide what the best choice is for you. It’s not like I died from this or anything :) Two tiny scars I have and a review to write."

For Birth Control "I currently still have the implant in my arm. I got it around 3 months ago, and I absolutely hate it. All I heard from the gyno and friends was it worked so well, and it was the best BC out there. I haven’t stopped bleeding since I got it. Constant cramps and weight gain. My acne is out of control. The worst part is the severe depression it has caused me. I used to be so happy and full of life. Now I’m severely depressed. DO NOT recommend to anyone who has a history with depression or anxiety. Doctor suggests waiting till I reach the 6-month mark, but I cannot deal with the bleeding and depression that much longer. Hopefully getting it taken out in the next few weeks."

For Birth Control "My daughter's periods were all over the place, bleeding for 2 weeks at a time, huge blood clots, and very painful. She got this to help regulate her periods, but instead, it opened up a world of hell, and she has not been the same. She had the implant approximately 2 months, and she had it removed. It started to cause feelings of suicide, anxiety attacks. It has been out of her physically for two months, and she now is continuing to have panic attacks, which is now affecting her job. She also just found out she is pregnant, so let's add her messed up hormones now on top of pregnant hormones."

For Birth Control "I had this thing implanted in my arm approximately 9 months ago. Everything went good until about 6 weeks ago, and I started getting my period heavily at least once a week. I have lost all control over my emotions, things that wouldn't even phase me before make me so angry. I also will all of a sudden break down in tears and don't know why. I have cramps like I have never experienced in my life, I am bloated, my back is killing me. I was on the pill for 15 years, none of this ever happened. I was off birth control for 3 years and decided this was the most convenient birth control method, so I decided to try it. I literally have been fighting with my own body and mind for 6 weeks, not understanding what was going on until about 4 days ago. I now have an appointment tomorrow to get it removed. I will be going back on birth control pills and am hoping this hormone will get out of my body ASAP. I absolutely would never recommend this to any woman of any age. Not worth it."

For Birth Control "My experience with this implant is also bad, like most! I still have it in and am calling tomorrow to get it removed! It has been in my arm since my son was born in September, so roughly nine months! My periods literally stop for one or two days and then come back for weeks! Heavy! Cramps like I have never had-so horrible, the pain! I have two small children, so this is awful! Tired isn't even the word. I have to chug coffee literally in the am to keep myself awake taking care of my babies! I have always had energy, always! Now I have so little."

For Birth Control "While Nexplanon has protected me from getting pregnant, I do not suggest it. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy! On top of the uncontrollable periods and cramps that make me vomit, I have also gained 50 lbs in a year. I am not able to remove it. My boyfriend and I want a baby, and when I went to the doctor to get it removed, my implant had moved too deep within my arm. My doctor could only find it by using an X-ray. So she transferred me to the OB-GYN, who said they couldn't do it, so then they sent me to a general surgeon who said they can't do it either. I was then sent to radiology, who also said they won't do it. Now I have to wait a month to meet with a different surgeon. I even tried Planned Parenthood and once again they said they couldn't do it. I'm glad I didn't wait until the third year because if I had, I could be infertile by now. If you are a very active person who uses their arms a lot! I would not do this."

"I talked with my doctor about all the problems with my menstrual cycle (44 years old, heavy flow, long periods, and painful cramps/backaches). I wasn't interested in an endometrial ablation, the du jour recommendation for premenopausal women. Nexplanon was a good choice since there was the possibility my period could disappear. Implantation was easy; nothing but problems after. My cycle started ~10 days after and didn't stop. My doctor prescribed a high dosage of ibuprofen for 5 days (800 mg doses, 3 times a day) to reset my cycle. I took the medication for 2 days and quit. Pretty sure I'd overdosed on ibuprofen. Next, my doctor put me on the pill for 3 months. No change, but now I had gas. After I was done with the pill, I got horrible constipation. I started taking laxatives. I’d had enough. Removing the device was easy. However, I'm still dealing with the damage caused by the constipation. I hope someday that I'll be able to have a normal bowel movement with no associated pain."

After getting it taken out, I was bleeding nonstop. Now I’m infertile, been trying for the last year and a half. My periods are irregular. This is the biggest mistake."

For Birth Control "Regret it! I've bled 5-6 days out of every week and gained nearly 20 pounds since getting Nexplanon 6 months ago. I have lost a ton of energy, motivation, and general desire to be productive. I feel like I've aged 7-8 years in the last 6 months. It's ridiculous. Don't ignore these reviews. I can't wait to get it removed! Constant weird spotting and cramps. No wonder women don't get pregnant. On this, your sex life falls flat...always dealing with a discharge and crappy mood swings, feeling heavy and depressed, etc. Don't do it. You'll regret it!"

For Birth Control "I do not recommend this form of birth control. It honestly changed everything about me. I got it in October 2017, and I'm getting it out today, January 30, 2018. I've been bleeding nonstop for those continuous 4 months! I spent so much money on pads, tampons, and medicines. It wasn't spotting, it was like my actual period along with cramps, migraines, tiredness, and acne! I used to NEVER get acne, but this birth control covered my face. I would stick with the old-fashioned birth control, which is the pill. I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I did."
