For Birth Control "I got Nexplanon in May of 2017. It was amazing for the first 2 years. I had no issues. In August, I began having panic attacks. Thinking it was because of the birth control, I went and had it removed. The panic attacks didn't stop. It's November, and I'm still dealing with horrible anxiety. I wake up in the middle of the night in a panic, feeling like I'm going-it is the end of my life. I have had confusion, depression, depersonalization, headaches, palpitations, increased heart rate. Sometimes it feels like I'm high and detached from my surroundings and myself. This has been the worst experience of my life by far. Some days are better than others. I'd like to see a doctor to be sure this isn't being brought on by any other medical issues, but at the time, I don't have insurance. My hope is to let others be aware of what this implant is capable of and to see if anyone can relate to my story. I hope I find relief soon."

For Birth Control "Wouldn’t recommend. I got the implant in March 2019, and I think I have had 4 weeks of no bleeding, but the rest of the time I have been spotting and bleeding non-stop! My anxiety is through the roof 24/7, I feel on edge. I never used to be like this before I got the implant. And now I just feel like my life is a mess."

For Birth Control "I had Nexplanon about 2 years ago and hated it, got it removed. Thought I’d try it again. So far, I’ve had Nexplanon for only 2 weeks. Before that, I was taking the Errin pill. The only side effect from the pill was being tired all the time. Due to me forgetting to take it every day for safety, I decided to get Nexplanon. I already have 2 kids and don’t want more. So far, I’m just tired all the time, and I'm starting to get EXTREMELY stressed at every little thing. Always angry, and I just cry. I have no interest in doing anything anymore. I don’t want to take it out, though, because I can’t have another kid! Idk what to do. This is horrible, don’t recommend."

For Birth Control "I know everyone’s experiences may be different. It was the worst thing I got! Two to three weeks after getting Nexplanon, I started having terrible mood swings, anxiety, depression, you name it!! It may be that my body reacted badly with the artificial hormones, but I was paranoid all the time, didn’t want to hold my daughters, even ended up in the ER. My family was terrified and thought I was going through a nervous breakdown. I got that thing removed ASAP and I’m slowly healing mentally. I’m returning to my fun and happy self one day at a time. Please stay away if you already deal with anxiety or depression! I gave it a try even after the bad reviews. These are side effects that they don’t even think about mentioning. I do NOT recommend! I would STAY away!"

For Birth Control "If you are on any kind of antidepressant, I do not suggest getting the Nexplanon implant. Before getting it implanted, I didn't see any literature on drug interactions between Nexplanon and SSRIs, which I am on to treat depression and anxiety. Within days of getting the implant in, I became intensely and actively so, so depressed about life (how I would be off my meds). I attempted to cope for a few days, thinking it would wear off, but it didn't. I called my gynecologist's office asking to schedule an appointment for removal, and the nurse over the phone suggested I 'wait it out another few weeks to see if it resolves.' I made an appointment for the same week to remove the Nexplanon implant. Within 48 hours, I felt myself again."

For Birth Control "I'm just going to get straight to the point and say that Nexplanon is the worst thing ever. I've never been an angry person, but this made me have extreme outbursts of anger, and the tiniest thing will set me off, and I get irritated very easily. My boyfriend and I never got into such bad arguments until I got this thing in my arm, and the only thing it does is protect from pregnancy. My anxiety has been through the roof, and I have a psychiatrist appointment scheduled for next month because it’s becoming too much for me at this point. I will be getting this taken out soon, no doubt about it."

For Birth Control "This was the worst thing I have ever done to myself. I am a very happy, positive, and bright person. I laugh for no reason and have a very strong will. Nexplanon, or I'd better say hormonal contraceptive, ruined me. I turned into the most negative person on this planet. It is so hard for me to control the stream of my negative thoughts. Initially, I thought, I fight, I am strong, I can deal with this. A year-and-a-half battle and I lost it when I realized I am losing my relationship with everyone. I have been to several doctors to get medications to stop my abnormal bleedings. I had another hormonal pill that made me feel even worse. I have to admit that adding extra progesterone on top to stop my abnormal bleedings was the worst thing to do. I tried an antidepressant to help me settle, nope, I got worse. Either anxious like hell or numb and sad. Today, I decided to take this monster out of me. No more anxiety, no more tears, I want to be happy."

For Birth Control "I like that I'm not bleeding anymore... But in all honesty, this birth control sucks. I asked the doctor if Nexplanon would affect my anxiety and depression. I was told it wouldn't, which was obviously a load of rubbish. I've been doing research after research, trying to figure out why I feel even worse than I ever have. Finally, I found this forum, which confirmed my worries. Nexplanon has caused me depression, I've had panic attacks after panic attacks - one so bad it put me into a mild seizure. It has affected my anxiety even more than my depression. One day I feel fine, the next day I spend all day trying to calm myself down. Migraines have been unbearable. I have no sex drive. And it's been affecting my entire life. I have nobody to talk to because of my crazy mood swings. My relationship is extremely rocky. I didn't gain weight, but I lost it, which is worse for me. I actually had a nice body, now I can't even look at myself without feeling disgust. Thank you all for your experiences. I'm definitely getting this thing removed."

For Birth Control "I had Implanon before Nexplanon with no issues. Since June 2017, I feel like my entire life has slowly started to fall apart. I have no sex drive. I have gained 40 pounds. I have wicked depression, anxiety, and brain fog, along with 72-hour migraines. These are caused by pseudotumor cerebri. This means I have excess pressure from fluid in my brain! The ophthalmologist specifically told me that this is common in birth control users. If I could, I would get it removed NOW, but I am waiting in line until the end of September, and I just hope that all of this goes away and I can get back to living my life as usual."

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for 2 years now and getting it removed next month. I gained 100+ pounds. I have bad anxiety attacks. I'm depressed almost every day, if not every other day. It does prevent pregnancy! BUT it's high dangerous mentally and physically. Took a toll on my body BAD."

For Birth Control "I have been on Nexplanon for a year now. I don’t ever have a period, which is nice, but with that came severe depression, anxiety, HORRIBLE weight gain, mood swings, acne, and fatigue. I am planning on getting it out next month. I do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "Today marks a year since I got the Nexplanon inserted. One thing I can say is it definitely prevents pregnancy. However, that is the only positive. Well, that and not having a period. The negatives outweigh the positives, though. I have a history with depression, after getting Nexplanon inserted, I felt that I was no longer myself. I snap over the smallest things. My anxiety is through the roof. I hate, hate, hate it because I used to be very active, and in one year, I have gained 40 lbs! Yes, when I got on the Nexplanon, I was 140 lbs, and I am now at 190 lbs! You can only imagine the depression I’ve gone through because of my body change. Stretch marks everywhere. I’m so ready to take back control of my life and body. It’s different for everyone, but I definitely do not recommend."

For Birth Control "A few days after having the Nexplanon implant put in, I found myself having catastrophic meltdowns over nothing, like the ones I had when I was a kid. My anxiety was so bad I would have full-on panic attacks prior to going to work. This also made me have serious thoughts about my sanity. I do have a history of anxiety and depression, but I have been stable for many years until I had the implant. I was a prisoner of these hormones, making me mentally unstable. It had also given me the worst acne that I haven't seen since I was in my early teens. I also had zero sex drive with that implant. It has ruined so many aspects of my life for the past two months, I couldn't wait to see if my hormones would even out. I knew I had to get it removed immediately. It's been a couple of weeks since I got it taken out and had the hormone-free IUD put in. I could already tell after a few weeks that I am becoming more mentally stable. My acne has also gotten a lot better too."

For Birth Control "From months 1-7 on Nexplanon, I was feeling fine... Five days ago, I began to have a creeping anxiety; my fear of death and worrying about things far out of human understanding or control was insurmountable. My family and I do not have a history of anxiety or depression. I then began to correlate Nexplanon to these little anxious worries that had been filling my head since I got it. I got my period four days ago and immediately began crying uncontrollably four times a day for the past four days. I had severe anxiety and almost had another panic attack when I was at the gym. The only reason I found out about the severe depression and anxiety that were side effects was because of reviews from women like yourselves. I am on day one without Nexplanon, and I still have some anxiety left over as it’s leaving my system. Do not listen to the Nexplanon company that says only a measly 5-6% statistic of women feel depression and anxiety from taking it. I have read hundreds who say the opposite."

For Birth Control "At first, I loved Nexplanon! I lost weight (which I hear is rare) and didn’t see any bad side effects. Man, did that change. My appetite was so bad that I could barely stomach a meal a day; I lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks! This was NOTHING compared to what followed. My period came at 2 weeks after insertion and stayed for 4 weeks until removal. I became extremely moody, irritable, and insecure-my anxiety was crippling; I found myself sobbing over issues created in my head. I felt so sad about my life to the point where I had suicidal thoughts. (I have a very beautiful life and normally I’m happy with where I am.) I struggled with anxiety and depression years before, but even at its worst, it was never this bad! Finally, I had it removed and I got Paraguard (the copper IUD instead). I really wish I took the bad reviews more seriously. PLEASE do your research, and if you have ever struggled with mental health, PLEASE examine all your other birth control options!"

For Birth Control "I had this inserted right after my son was born, gained like 10 pounds right away. No acne, but I’m 34. But recently I’ve been experiencing increased heart rate, anxiety out the roof, heavy bleeding, migraines, and extreme moodiness. Worst time of my life, and I’m generally a happy person."

For Birth Control "Do not use it! I didn’t get pregnant, but that’s the only plus. I gained 30-40 pounds, bleed every day, headaches, nausea, indigestion. All that I could deal with because it is so effective. What I CAN'T deal with is the anxiety and depression. It’s absolutely awful, so I am getting it removed in a couple of weeks, and I am so excited I can hardly wait. I’ve had it over a year, and I can honestly say one of the worst decisions ever. I will be back on the pill."

For Birth Control "I could count on one hand the number of times my boyfriend and I had sex during the first year after the insertion of the implant. It left a giant bruise on my arm, and I bled and spotted heavily for over 9 months initially, and was in a constant state of emotional distress, everything made me either really emotional or really angry. I've gained 40 pounds since, and it's easy to put on more if I'm not careful. I'm currently 26 and have never been pregnant and thought this was a good option for my busy lifestyle, but this implant has left me with absolutely no desire for sex. I'm consistently constipated and retain water. I've been on it for about two years now, and sometimes get a monthly period or at least have PMS symptoms cramping, but no more random bleeding. The worst part of it for me is dealing with the weight gain, because it does NOT want to come off."

For Birth Control "DO NOT GET NEXPLANON IMPLANT!! The first few months on this, it was great, it worked well! Then after that, the side effects started. I started to get dizzy spells, and then insane anxiety and depression. I've lost a couple of jobs because of it... Even felt so dark and depressed to where I had to go to the hospital... I was so sensitive to everything and got overwhelmed by EVERYTHING. I got Nexplanon out at Planned Parenthood, and now after about 4 days, I feel a little better but not 100%. While on Nexplanon, it was the worst year of my life. I just want to feel normal again. I'm scared to do anything because of my anxiety and panic attacks. Please do not have this as your birth control, it's not worth relationships nor your mental health."

For Birth Control "I've had the Nexplanon implant in for almost 4 years. Had my second implant fitted last May, but I'm having it removed today. I have always been a happy-go-lucky person with a positive outlook on life, but it has literally sucked the life out of me. I now suffer from severe anxiety (daily) and have had depression. I am tired all the time and lack motivation due to this. I'm a shadow of my former self. After reading other people's reviews, I've realized the implant is causing my symptoms. I wouldn't recommend the implant to anyone, it drained me from the person I was. Hopefully, I will feel much better in a few days after having it removed. AVOID!"

For Birth Control "WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!! On Nexplanon, I went from being a happy, giggly, and upbeat person to a person that was crabby, sad, and depressed all the time. I felt as if this dark cloud was following on top of my head all day! I was also very fatigued all the time, with no energy to go to the gym or even go out and do things on the weekend with my boyfriend, which was very unlikely of me. I also felt like it gave me anxiety, and along with the depression, it did also give me dark thoughts. I know it was the Nexplanon and the hormones doing all these things to me because, in my 23 years of life, I had NEVER EVER felt anything like this... EVER! I would honestly say to stay away from this birth control and look into another method. I know that everyone reacts differently to hormones and no birth control is perfect, but this one was just terrible, although it did serve its purpose to keep me from getting pregnant but at a very high cost!"

For Birth Control "DON’T USE NEXPLANON. I got it on June 23rd, 2017. I will get it removed on May 8th, 2019. IDK why I waited this long. I got the BC (birth control) because I have always had really bad cramps. I would miss school when I was younger. The BC is terrible. I have mood swings, I am extremely angry, I am depressed, and I have anxiety. Almost every day I wake up, I don’t want to even wake up. I cry every day. I’m easily overwhelmed and sensitive. I’m so mean to my boyfriend. I don’t like cuddling after sex. I don’t like to be touched, but when I’m away from him, I’m constantly telling him I miss him and want to be kissed all over, but all of that changes when I actually get with him. I push people away, then complain I’m lonely. Whenever I’m mean to someone in my family, I don’t feel bad until after I’ve left them. I beat myself up for being so mean to them, and then I start crying. My boyfriend is probably more excited than I am to get this BC out, lol."

For Birth Control "I have been on it for a month today. I have an appointment tomorrow to have it removed. I have been bleeding non-stop for 12 days, and today I passed 2 huge blood clots, and that's never happened to me before! Headaches, numbness, and pain in my legs, pain when urinating. My anxiety has gotten worse, my depression has returned. My acne has also gotten worse. I have awful nightmares and trouble sleeping. I get bad stomach aches. My sex drive is gone. I'm so angry about all of this, and I can't wait to have this implant out so I can start feeling better! I'm tired of being so tired and moody and fatigued. Do not get this implant. Not worth it at all!!!!!"

For Birth Control "*DO NOT TRY THIS PRODUCT*!! This is my first time trying Nexplanon. It's been TWO weeks, and I am actually having it removed TODAY!! All the reviews I've read are accurate, and the side effects are immediate. I have anxiety, anger, depression, an empty feeling, want to be secluded, and that's just mental. Physically dizzy, nauseous, diarrhea, itching face, the area of insertion itches something wicked, like I'm rejecting it... sweating, chills, insomnia. Please don't take the chance without doing your homework first, and 99.99% of everyone asked that has used this thing hated it and/or bled for MANY months at a time :("

For Birth Control "I should have listened to my body at first! My side effects from Nexplanon: depression, anxiety, and prolonged cycle for almost 2 years! I finally got it out, and my hormones went crazy. I had hair loss, chest pain. My heart rate is high, and I now have blood pressure issues! Don't get it."
