For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for over a year now, and honestly, it is the worst mistake I've made. Before I got it, I had my mental health under control, including losing over 120 lbs (this is going to be important later in the story). So I decided to get birth control (my periods were making me very sick). Well, ever since I got it implanted, my mental health has gone downhill drastically. I have gained ALL of my weight back, the arm that it's in aches, and my anxiety is so bad that I can't even go to the doctor to get it out. 10/10 do NOT recommend."

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon inserted on 7/19/19, and I'm scheduled to get it taken out tomorrow. Since this past Saturday, I've had severe anxiety (specifically about death). I can't sleep, I wake up with terrible thoughts, and all day at work I can't think straight. I hold my kids tight, and all I do is cry. I just keep thinking about death, and it's all I've been thinking about."

For Birth Control "I had Nexplanon implanted about a year and five months ago after a pregnancy scare. I was not on any birth control prior to this for about three years. Before the implant, I had my spouts of depression that were due to some life circumstances and were usually treatable without major treatments. After one month with the implant, I had taken a major decline in my mental health. I had suicidal thoughts, major anxiety, and awful night terrors. I ended up having to start taking antidepressants and going to see a therapist. Then I developed a binge eating disorder over the past year. I had always been conscientious about my nutrition and health, but I have now gained about 30 lbs. I have become a couch potato with social anxiety and no energy past making myself some food. It prevented pregnancy but is not worth me living in misery anymore. I am having the implant removed next week."

For Birth Control "DO NOT get this. Since May, I have had probably 4 weeks where I’ve not bled. My skin wasn’t ever perfect, but it is now horrific (cystic acne) - which has scarred my face. Uncontrollable extreme mood swings - depression, severe anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. Awful lower back pain, literally a 7-month period with how you feel, craving food/bloating. I will be having this removed, but seriously - save yourself the pain. I completely rushed the decision to have Nexplanon and just read about how it works/possible side effects (which sounded minor/like the pill), however, I wish I had read people’s personal experiences rather than facts about the contraceptive. This obviously is a fantastic contraceptive because you would not have sex if you bled like I have for the past 7 months. 10/10 would NOT recommend - don’t do it, girls!!!"

For Birth Control "I had the implant for about a year and four months and got it removed today. The implant made my acne severely worse, increased my appetite to the point of gaining a significant amount of weight, and seriously messed with my psyche. I’ve noticed over the last year and four months that I’ve become a lot more anxious and depressed. I never made the connection until recently that those were side effects of this. Additionally, my liver enzymes came back off the chart, which I found out is a side effect of Nexplanon. I would not use this method of birth control again."

For Birth Control "This birth control is the worst birth control I’ve ever tried. I developed tics for a short time, more anxiety and depression, mood swings, hair loss, extremely dry skin, deep muscle pain, RLS, high blood pressure, high heart rate, heart palpitations, fatigue, obsessive-compulsive thoughts and tendencies (I convinced myself that if I ate, I would have a panic attack/restless leg episode. I ate one chicken strip per day for 2 months and lost 30 lbs, this is only one example, there are plenty more.) and the one I expected, constant bleeding for 4 months. I do not recommend this birth control if you have anxiety or depression. If you suddenly develop RLS and can’t find anything about it on the internet, there are resources to help. Look for the Southern California RLS Support Group. Just look up Restless Leg Syndrome, then post about your experience. So many people will help you."

For Birth Control "I’ve gotten this birth control in only because my mom wanted me to have it. In the beginning, it was fine, didn’t have any side effects. Then, a year later, I’ve experienced the worst headaches and anxiety in my life. I’ve never had anxiety until I started to have this in my arm. I wake up feeling dizzy and lightheaded, sometimes still feel like I’m dreaming. At night is when the anxiety attacks are at their worst, to the point I cannot sleep nor breathe. My arm where it’s in hurts sometimes. I’ve begun to get cold-like symptoms, like little minor pressure in my chest. I don’t recommend this. It does work as if not getting me pregnant, but the side effects are hard to bear with. I will be having mine taken out in a week."

For Birth Control "I have had this Nexplanon implant just over 3 years. I have the worst anxiety ever since last year, May 2019. Anxiety attacks. I don't know if it could be this implant that caused all this? I've been to doctors, and they just said I have generalized anxiety and gave me anti-anxiety meds. But do you guys think it could be this Nexplanon implant? I am going to have it removed this week or next week. I am so tired of the anxiety and desperate to get rid of it."

For Birth Control "Nexplanon is a NIGHTMARE! By far the worst contraception I have ever had. I never leave reviews, but I would not want anyone to go through what I have with the implant. I have been on contraception since a young age due to acne (the pill), and I think this has always affected my anxiety. Since being on the implant, my anxiety has gone through the roof, it’s unbearable. I’m constantly tired, constantly anxious, battling trying to get out of a constant low mood. It’s honestly horrible dealing with horrible negative and intrusive thoughts! It’s a great way of not getting pregnant, but it’s not worth it at all. It’s a constant battle to try and feel and remember what your old self was like! I’ve had no bleeding, but I would rather have a period every week than have these side effects!"

For Birth Control "The worst experience of my entire life!! I have always struggled with anxiety a little, but I have always been on some kind of contraception since an early age due to acne, and looking back, I don’t think the hormones ever really helped my anxiety. But this time last year, I was so happy, the happiest I had ever been. I then got the implant, and the nightmare of side effects started. • extremely emotional • thrush • extreme acne/oily hair • low libido • EXTREME anxiety • awful intrusive thoughts • weight gain • my arm where the implant is itches constantly. I never write reviews, but I don’t want anyone to feel how I have for the past 10 months."

For Birth Control "I currently have the Nexplanon bar in my left arm and am finding it horrible physically, mentally, and emotionally. The first month I woke every night at 4 a.m. dripping in sweat (in winter) and experienced hot flushes every day randomly. I’ve bled every day for the last 2 months and in the last 2 weeks have broken out in pimples. I feel completely disconnected to myself as a woman, my usual cycle has been replaced by constant irregular bleeding that leaves me irritable and moody. I’m finding myself questioning every thought/feeling/reaction because I no longer know when my hormones/cycle are affecting my moods, which is taking its toll on my mental health. My anxiety has never been worse. I have zero sex drive or desire to be touched, which is taking a huge toll on my relationship. I feel there’s a complete lack of caution from GPs when prescribing this product. I’m having it removed ASAP."

For Birth Control "I have had my Nexplanon implant in for 1.5 years and I had it removed on the 20th of August 2020. Three days later, the nightmare kicks in! Can someone tell me when this will end? Note: 0 history of mental health problems (current nightmare = severe anxiety, sometimes panic attacks, high heart rate, dizziness, dream-like state of mind, confusion, frustration, irritation, mood swings, lack of control. Not myself whatsoever! I asked the male doctor, and he informed me, as well as the lady doctor who removed it, that this was not related to the implant removal. I think the removal has caused a serious hormonal imbalance in my body. Can anyone relate? If so, please leave a message/comment. I am 34 years old and it’s scary, so if there are any young girls or ladies out there, you're not alone! Take care, my fellow soldiers. Xx"

For Birth Control "Getting Nexplanon was the WORST decision I have ever made. Decided to trust the research I did - which was all from the drug company and Planned Parenthood. When I first got it, I was severely bruised for two weeks, my whole arm was swollen and painful, and the whole time I had it, it would poke inside my arm, which was very uncomfortable. I was always scared it had moved. I was so anxious that I had to stop intakeing caffeine. I would cry all the time for no reason, and I was so depressed I wanted to die. I gained like 30 pounds over the course of six months because the places I'd researched said that weight gain was not considered a real side effect. When I finally got this abomination out, it took MONTHS to get back to normal and for my hormones to settle again. This is NOT worth it. I am begging you, please don't get this, and read forums with people's real experiences if you do decide to do so!! Extreme weight gain is a very common side effect! I felt like I lost control. It was horrible."

For Birth Control "I’ve had the Nexplanon for pretty much two years and it’s just now caused me really bad anxiety, panic attacks, chest pain. I was really weak and I’ve never been like that in my life! Just got it removed today. I will never advise anyone to get this."

For Birth Control "This contraception is evil. Definitely do your research before getting Nexplanon. I have had 2 previously, but this 3rd one, within 10 days of having it, I am depressed, anxious, and dizzy. Overall, just not with it. I can't wait to get this awful thing out of my arm."

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for about 7 months now. For the first few weeks, I dealt with some anxiety issues, and for the first few months, I had irregular bleeding, but everything seemed to pretty much level out after that until I started having all kinds of other symptoms about a month ago. Sore breasts, cramping, and headaches, to name a few. I took a couple of pregnancy tests, and they were both positive..."

For Birth Control "I got the Nexplanon 6 weeks after having my youngest in November. I got it removed that following June. The whole time I had it, I gained an insane amount of weight due to being hungry ALL the time. I had horrid migraines almost every day. It was a great week if I had 1 or 2 days migraine-free. My mood swings were horrible. My depression and anxiety were the worst they had ever been. Since August or September of 2018, I have not had a normal period. I bleed extremely heavily the first few days, have a day or two with no bleeding, then start bleeding again. Then the bleeding multiple times a month started. I'm not talking 1 normal period then some spotting. Nope, I'm talking 2 or 3 normal periods a month. I told my doctor about it, and she said it's my body getting back into balance. But almost 2 years later, still trying to get back in balance?"

For Birth Control "I began birth control for menstrual pain. I was on the Depo-Provera shot for 2 years and stopped because of anxiety and panic attacks that occurred. Never experienced it before in my life. Doctors didn’t think it was the birth control. I’m a 22-year-old healthy female. I go to the gym and I make sure I watch how I eat. I tell my doctor I want something else, I get Nexplanon. A couple of months later, I get anxiety symptoms again, but worse. It was every day now. I tell my doctor it’s got to be the birth control. They don’t believe me. They thought maybe I was stressed. So I got it taken out. And already I’m feeling better. I haven’t had anxiety attacks since. It feels like my body’s slowly trying to regulate itself again. I get a few headaches, sometimes heart palpitations, and sleepless nights. Birth control’s been around for only 50 years, there’s more research that needs to be done. I’m looking for help. I want to know if I’m ever going to be back to normal mentally."

For Birth Control "I got the implant January 15th, 2019. The first couple of months were fine, insertion was a breeze, no periods for the first couple of months. Out of nowhere, I started bleeding with maybe a three-day break in between. It would range from spotting to very heavy bleeding. I also have anxiety and depression, my seasonal depression being the worst. My doctor put me on the same antidepressants I’ve used for years, and I started feeling extremely suicidal. I thought it was because we were trying medication for my ADHD for the first time in years. But I’m convinced it’s this dangerously stupid thing in my arm. I have zero sex drive, I feel like I hate everything around me, everything and everyone annoys me or frustrates me, I’m exhausted all the time, zero motivation, very little feelings of my usual bubbly, happy self. I so can’t wait to get this thing out. If I could give a negative amount of stars, I would. This will be taken out no later than the end of February."

For Birth Control "Had Nexplanon put in February 2018, by March, was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety, which was put down to bereavement. By April 2018, I was in the darkest place in my mind. I had postnatal depression 14 years previously, but nothing on this scale. I was treated with citalopram for my depression till they stopped working for me in September 2019. I was then prescribed mirtazapine for my depression. It wasn't till December 19, 2019, that my GP said about the low moods caused by the Nexplanon and said about removing it, booked in for removal of the implant the following day. Had implant removed December 20, 2019, and after a few days felt like the black mist that had been present for nearly 2 years had gone. I actually felt happy and normal. The following weeks, I weaned off my antidepressants and I'm really happy and positive. I'm 100% positive that Nexplanon caused my depression and super bad thoughts."

For Birth Control "This is the worst birth control on the planet. I was a complete psychopath for the first 4-6 months. My mood is affected immensely, and my anxiety is through the roof. I gained about 60 pounds in the first year, and the bleeding... the bleeding is horrible. You never know when it’s coming or how long it will stay. When I first got it, I bled for about 3 months. After a while, I would skip a month of bleeding, but then when I would get it, it would last for weeks. It only seems to be getting worse. I am now a month and a half into this cycle, and there is no sign of it stopping. It expires in February, and I cannot WAIT to get it out. Don’t get this birth control! It’s AWFUL!!"

For Birth Control "I’ve had the Nexplanon implant for 9 months now. I stop bleeding for like 5 days out of the month. The rest of the time I’m bleeding. Not always bad, sometimes just spotting, but still. It’s like it never ends. My depression had gotten so bad I had to be put in therapy. I never felt this bad before the implant. I never dealt with anxiety before I got it either. I did go to my doctor, and they told me symptoms would slow down after 6 months. It’s been 9 now, and I feel like they’re just getting worse. Not getting pregnant is a perk, but it’s just not worth damaging my mental health any longer."

For Birth Control "I just had this implant removed after having it in for only 3 days! The first day was not bad since I had it implanted around 6 pm. The rest of the days I had the worst anxiety. I cried for 2 days straight and even started thinking I would be better off dead than take another second in so much anxiety and depression. Please, if you already suffer from anxiety, don’t get it!! It seems to affect some women’s mental health more than others. I didn’t want to take the risk and had it removed ASAP."
