For Acne "My dermatologist put me on this to regulate my acne, and I am currently on my third cycle using TriNessa. I had been on birth control for the same reason almost 2 years ago, but I had a 15 lb weight gain in under 4 months, which is crazy since I'm a runner. She told me these pills would not make me gain weight, yet I've gone up around 7 lbs and noticed that my boobs have grown a lot. The only other side effect I have noticed is dizziness and headaches. But as for its effectiveness: my period is very regular and light, and my face has completely cleared. I still get a few breakouts right before my period, but it's usually not bad at all."

For Acne "I've been on this pill for a month now, and I'm loving it. I had acne on my face, chest, and back, and now that I'm on this pill, it has gone down considerably. The rest of the acne on my body is healing, but I don't see any more breakouts occurring, and I'm so happy. The only issue I have with it is that I have to take it every day. (I'm kind of forgetful, but I've only forgotten once, and I'm not sexually active, so that's okay) and that I've noticed a gain in my weight. It's not extravagant, though. I just eat more now that I'm on it, and I'm trying to make better eating choices, but that has nothing to do with the pill. I'd say give it a try, it's not bad."

For Birth Control "I have been on TriNessa for 10 months. So far, I have had breast tenderness, fatigue, weight gain, 104 lb to 127 lb (yes, huge difference), lower abdomen pain. Headaches, mood swings not so much, but I do cry a lot, and I mean a lot. The pill is doing its job, although I've had one scare. My period comes three days late and lasts about 3-6 hours, my period hasn't been longer than a day. And it's light, very light, like spotting. TriNessa is a good pill, it has done its job, but the side effects are like symptoms of pregnancy. I could do without the side effects."

For Birth Control "This birth control has done its purpose in preventing pregnancy, but my side effects are awful. In the year I have been on the pill, I have gained about 15 pounds, and my diet is very healthy, and I'm active. This made my acne worse, I have sleepless nights, and I constantly struggle with being down and not being happy. I have been waiting it out to see if this would shift back to normal, but it hasn't. This might work for someone else, but it has not worked for me."

For Birth Control "I took this for about 5 months and didn't hate it until the last month or two, but by then I really, really hated it. My shin was pretty clear and my breasts grew two cup sizes, which was nice. However, they hurt constantly and were always sore. I always felt bloated and gained 5 pounds the first week and another 8 pounds over the next couple of months. The weight was IMPOSSIBLE to lose, and as someone who has struggled with eating disorders, it was extremely disheartening. The worst part, however, was a complete and total loss of interest in sex. It was really damaging my relationship, to which sex has been a really huge part. The sex drive wasn't hugely affected until the end of my use of TriNessa, but it was a very intense drop-off."

For Birth Control "I began taking TriNessa to clear up my skin. I have never had perfectly clear skin, but before and during my period, my skin (including back and shoulders) would break out horribly. After only a week of the pill, I noticed my skin was very clear. I have never had such amazing skin! During my period, I still get a few zits, but not bad enough to wear makeup. My period never starts until the 5th placebo, and has always been short, but I no longer cramp! My mood is stable, and I have gone up a cup size. I am stopping the pill due to a 10-pound weight gain in three months. I'm a runner, and have always been able to maintain my weight. I intake 2000 calories, burn 2400/day, and went from 120 to 131 in 3 months."

For Birth Control "TriNessa was the first birth control I had ever been on. I took it for almost a year and had to stop. I suffer from anxiety and depression. My periods were really awful before TriNessa, and when I started taking it, they were easy and manageable. My skin was glowing and clear. TriNessa made my anxiety and depression so much worse. I cried all the time, had panic attacks, and mood swings multiple times a day. I also gained about 15 pounds. I have not tried birth control since, I am so scared that it will be anything similar to TriNessa because it isn't worth it."

For Birth Control "I had to give this medication a 10 because, ultimately, it is extremely effective in the prevention of pregnancy. I started taking this pill when I was 17, and I'm now 21. As a teenager, it was great. No acne and predictable periods. But I gained a LOT of weight (I was usually 109-115, and now I'm 135-140), mostly in my thighs and lower abdomen that would not go away. I also completely lost my libido. It was devastating. I have terrible mood swings and am usually completely incapacitated every first day of my period. I also started to have quite a bit of spotting for the last year and a half. I'm always nauseous, dizzy, tired, achy, and depressed. It also increased my migraines and made them much worse. I do not recommend this."

For Birth Control "I've been on this birth control for about a year. Everything started out great until about 6 months in. I missed about three pills one month, and it caused severe nausea. The nausea wouldn't stop even after months of taking my pills regularly. My doctor had to prescribe me anti-nausea medication just so I could make it through the day. I also experienced slight weight gain, but nothing major. On a positive note, it did regulate my periods and enlarged my breasts."

For Birth Control "I've really liked my time on TriNessa. It's done everything my doctor told me it would do. My periods went from 5 days to 4, and I no longer get the debilitating cramps and body aches I used to have for three days every month. You can keep weight gain under control if you exercise when you're taking it since a lot of it is water weight. Might I also say it has done its job as a contraceptive as well, so I'm quite happy with it."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on TriNessa for about a year now, and it’s been the worst year of my life. At first, my doctor told me it would take a while for my body to get used to it, so I didn’t stop taking it. I didn’t gain weight, but I’m having trouble losing weight. I go to the gym regularly and eat well. I’m a happy person, yet now I have never felt so depressed. I randomly cry, I’m always sad, I find it hard to get out of bed, and I’m always stressed. It’s about to ruin my relationship unless I get off of it. Any recommendations on what other birth control won’t make me depressed?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I went to the doctor for a regular checkup, and I told my doctor I had heavy bleeding, and she prescribed me Tri-Nessa. I started to take the pill and instantly felt horrible, headaches, worse cramps than ever, and it's running my life. After my period ended, I am still taking Tri-Nessa, and it is horrible. I bleed every day, I have not had a break. I have to wear panty liners because I spot every day. I have been on the drug for 2 months. Slow, my period was only 5 days before I started taking the pill, and now I'm about 2 weeks long. I won't stop bleeding. The pill made me gain 2 pounds so far, and my butt and breasts have enlarged. But the medicine is not for me, I would rather just live with regular heavy periods."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on Trinessa since I stopped breastfeeding my little one about 9 months ago. My periods have been heavier and longer, and I’ve had stronger cramping than I did with my previous birth control. I’ve gained about 15 lbs since I started this medicine. I’m hungry all the time! And I get nauseous fairly regularly. Also, I’ve been very depressed. I’ve always had a tendency to struggle with anxiety and depression, so I wrote it off to that, or maybe even postpartum, but I took some time off of this birth control and have come to realize that it may have been a big cause of my unhappiness lately. Going hand in hand with my depression, I’ve had no libido on this pill. Overall, the pill has done its main job because I’m not pregnant, but after the research I’ve done, the negative side effects are going to cause me to change birth control."

For Birth Control "I have been taking TriNessa for one year, and this pill is great. I have never had a change of mood, heavy periods, breast tenderness, gained weight, or lost weight. I have had more interest in sex than I had, which is good. I love this pill, what else can I say!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've only been on TriNessa for a month now, but so far I'm having mixed results. I decided to go back on birth control after an 8-year break (my husband had a vasectomy 8 years ago). I had been looking into NovaSure due to extremely heavy periods, but decided to try the cheaper route first. I used to be on Ortho-Tricyclen before my second son was born with no problems that I recall. I asked for the same again but was given TriNessa, which I assumed would be the same. Almost as soon as I started, I've been experiencing night sweats, slight weight gain (about 5 lbs), and breast soreness. So far my period is lighter though, so I guess it worked for that. I'll give it another 2 months and see if the negatives go away."

For Birth Control "I have been on TriNessa for 4 months, and it has been awful. During the 1st week, I vomited and experienced severe nausea. Although the vomiting subsided, I continued to experience nausea through the 2nd week. By the 2nd month, I noticed an increase in weight (5-10 lbs), larger breasts, mood swings, and nausea returned on and off for the 1st week. By the 3rd month, I was an emotional wreck and experienced the same pattern with nausea. I was filled with rage, exhausted 24/7, and had trouble concentrating. I had PMS symptoms during week 1 of a new pack and extreme hunger during periods. I also noticed a loss of hair on my scalp. I'm 33, no kids, don't smoke, I exercise, and this was the 3rd brand of birth control I've tried in 15 years (previously on Lutera, then Viorele)."

For Acne "So my dermatologist put me on TriNessa hormone birth control for my severe acne. I’ve officially been on it for a month. Although I have noticed some skin clearing 2 weeks in, I still get random breakouts on my cheeks and jawline. Along with that, I’m definitely eating double than normal. I feel I’ve gained like 8 pounds in this 1 month. I always want to cry lately, have crazy mood swings, and sooo irritable. I started thinking maybe it’s the pill, so that’s how I ended up on this site, and you ladies confirmed what I thought."

For Birth Control "My regular birth control was discontinued and was switched to Trinessa 3 months ago. I had weight gain 1+ months later, but didn't put it together. I'm now in my 3rd month and I've gained a total of 15 pounds, anxiety, acne, and breast tenderness. I'm done! I'll be 48 years old this year and don't need the extra problems. I see good and bad reviews, and I'm so glad that I googled it."

For Birth Control "I started taking the pill for my irregular cycle, and it has worked, but I've noticed I started having headaches, bloating, and terrible mood swings. In addition, I've become somewhat lazy and gained a tad bit of weight. I'm about to be on my next set of pills starting tomorrow, so I hope it gets better."

For Birth Control "I have taken Yasmine and the patch before and had to stop at 2 weeks because I immediately started experiencing side effects such as weight gain, nausea, vomiting, depression, and decreased sex drive. In addition, wearing the patch gave me back pain and lots of soreness at the patch site. The IUD came out after my uterus kept contracting (total failure). I recently started taking TriNessa (started 1st Sunday of my period @ 8 pm every night) and this is my 5th day. So far, I am only feeling very mild nausea. I have noticed I feel more energetic than before, so I am wondering if this might be actually balancing my hormones. I have been having irregular periods (2x month). I will update to see if it helps with my irregular periods and if there are more side effects."

For Birth Control "I am now 37 years old with eight children. I had gastric bypass in 2012. I had originally started the depo shot after my last daughter, but my doctor was concerned with the possibility of weight gain, so he switched me to TriNessa in February 2018. I have had longer, harder periods since starting. I've had urinary tract infections every month since (thought I wasn't drinking enough water and giving myself the infection). I've had cramping, weight gain, bad headaches, breast tenderness, and recently figured out I had swelling in my legs due to this drug. I figured it out after my 2-year-old lost both my pill packets and my keys one day, and we hadn't found them for almost 3 weeks! (Found them in the box of powdered laundry soap on the dryer.) At this point, I figured I'd just wait a few days and get the new month worth of pills, so a day or so later, I was in the bathroom every little while to urinate, and I noticed that my legs were getting better! Which led me here to see what side effects others have experienced!"

For Birth Control "As far as birth control goes, yes it is effective. But the positives end there. I have been taking this pill for over 5 months now, and the side effects have been miserable. I constantly feel bloated and have gained weight. My breasts have grown a cup size, which is kind of okay, but it just adds to the feeling of bloatedness. My periods have lost some of the cramps, but this pill does not make them any shorter. The worst side effect of all, though, has to be the mood swings. Before taking this pill, I was a very calm, emotionally stable person. Not anymore. I cry often and easily, and worst of all, I angrily snap at my loving boyfriend over ridiculous things. It has seriously put a strain on our relationship. I am switching ASAP."

For Birth Control "I've been taking TriNessa for about 8 months now, and I am satisfied. No pimples, my period is lighter. I also used to get the worst cramps and nausea, and now no cramps or anything. I haven't experienced weight gain, my boobs do feel a little bigger, though. But so far, no complaints."

For Birth Control "I had my daughter 2.5 years ago and put off getting back on birth control for a year and a half after she was born because I know the horrors that can come from it. I went to the doctor for my yearly visit, and she suggested I try TriNessa, and I've been pretty happy with it. The first few months, I had extreme nausea (almost to the point of throwing up - but never did), headaches, and slight weight gain (3-4 lbs). However, I am happy with it because my skin is basically flawless, whereas before I had occasional bad breakouts. I bloat a lot the week before my period, but that would happen to me before anyway."

For Birth Control "I like it. TBH, and I’m a very paranoid and picky person. I’ve been on it for 5 years, and I rarely get cramps or much PMS. I didn’t gain weight. Didn’t lose hair. I’ve always had depression and anxiety, so I don’t genuinely see a difference in that. The only thing is I didn’t see much of a difference in my acne."
