For Birth Control "As far as birth control goes, yes it is effective. But the positives end there. I have been taking this pill for over 5 months now, and the side effects have been miserable. I constantly feel bloated and have gained weight. My breasts have grown a cup size, which is kind of okay, but it just adds to the feeling of bloatedness. My periods have lost some of the cramps, but this pill does not make them any shorter. The worst side effect of all, though, has to be the mood swings. Before taking this pill, I was a very calm, emotionally stable person. Not anymore. I cry often and easily, and worst of all, I angrily snap at my loving boyfriend over ridiculous things. It has seriously put a strain on our relationship. I am switching ASAP."

For Birth Control "I had my daughter 2.5 years ago and put off getting back on birth control for a year and a half after she was born because I know the horrors that can come from it. I went to the doctor for my yearly visit, and she suggested I try TriNessa, and I've been pretty happy with it. The first few months, I had extreme nausea (almost to the point of throwing up - but never did), headaches, and slight weight gain (3-4 lbs). However, I am happy with it because my skin is basically flawless, whereas before I had occasional bad breakouts. I bloat a lot the week before my period, but that would happen to me before anyway."

For Acne "Better than anything I’ve tried! Started trying birth control when I was a sophomore in high school. Tried Lo Loestrin, Depo shot, and a few others over the past 5 years. They all gave me horrible cystic acne, mood swings, extreme weight gain, etc. UNTIL TRINESSA. Yes, it will take MONTHS for your body to get used to it, and yes, your acne WILL get worse before it gets better, but this is a long-term fix once you get used to it and take it at the same time every day. Everyone’s body reacts differently, but this is an 8/10 for me (which is better than anything else I’ve ever tried). I do get very bad side effects if I miss a pill or have to double up, but that’s my fault. I do get a minor bump here and there, but if I ever get actual breakouts, it’s because I’m eating dairy or unhealthy foods/not working out, not because of TriNessa. It has also shortened my periods from sometimes even 7-8 days to 4-5 days. Some weight gain, but it all went to my breasts, so not complaining."

For Birth Control "I asked my doctor for a birth control because I was in a relationship, and we both decided pregnancy is not in our near future, and I can say Trinessa did its part when it comes to baby-making time, haha. I did not break out a lot before Trinessa, but now even during the week I get my period, I have zero acne, and I am talking no zits at all. I do not take the sugar pills during the week I am on my period because they are only there to take if you cannot remember to start your birth control that Sunday, other than that, they will make you gain weight. Downside, I'm on like month 6, and I'm nauseous almost every time I take my pill, sometimes even after I take it on a full stomach. Still regular cycle, overall I do like it besides the nausea."

For Birth Control "I was put on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for a year, then I was forced to switch to TriNessa because insurance didn't cover it. I have been on it for 5 months, and it has been the same as Ortho. I have had weight gain, which I love. Breast tenderness isn't as bad, but they swell three weeks into a pack. Nausea every first week of the pack. Cramping sucks. But I get my period every fourth day of placebo. Literally Thursday morning I start, and I LOVE it. My periods are decently light. Overall, favorite pill."

For Birth Control "I’ve never written a review in my entire life. But I feel super strong about my experience with this birth control and wanted to share. I was on and off this birth control for about two years. It helped me with my acne, I did gain about 20 pounds, but it also was very effective. Everyone on here is talking about their experiences while taking the pill, but nothing about the after effects. While on the medication, I had less cramping and regular cycles... well, I’ve been off of it for a year and 4 months, and since then I’ve had my period every 11 days. Every single time. Instead of my period lasting 7 days, it lasted 5-6. I’ve been to multiple doctors, and they just tell me it may take a while or longer than normal for my body to readjust. On top of this, I can’t conceive. It’s very frustrating, TriNessa seemed to be working great during my experience, but I just want to share with you ladies some of the side effects I’ve experienced since being off it."

For Birth Control "I started this medicine four months ago, and I've had the worst experience so far. My skin has cleared up, and I haven't gotten pregnant, but otherwise, the side effects are NOT worth it. I've gained 12 pounds since I've started, and I'm a petite girl whose weight never fluctuates. My face has swollen up like a chipmunk to where I can hardly smile anymore. I'm constantly bloated, and there's no way to fix it. My sex drive has drastically decreased. Sure, it's great I haven't gotten pregnant, but feeling so fat and bloated and insecure that it makes me want to stay inside and hide - NOT worth it!!"

For Acne "This medication definitely reacts differently for everyone. This is my ninth birth control I've been on in my life. I used to get cystic acne terribly on my face, and every birth control has had a different side effect for me. This one has been pretty bad. I no longer have terrible cystic acne on my face, but now it has appeared all over my back. Also, if you are taking depression medication, I really don't recommend it. This has absolutely made me more depressed, and I've also gained a lot of weight after almost 3 months of it. I think the pill makes me need to emotional eat."

For Birth Control "I absolutely hate this birth control. Not only do I get the heaviest periods I've ever gotten in my life (I have to change my super plus tampons every couple of hours the first couple of days), it sometimes comes a week early. Also, weight gain, some acne (which I never experienced my whole life), and terrible PMS. The only reason I'm giving it some 'stars' is because I didn't get pregnant."

For Birth Control "I was on TriNessa for a few months years ago and had a love/hate relationship with it. The pros were: clear skin, high sex drive, and very light periods, which was a plus for me. My main reason for birth control was heavy periods due to possible endo. The cons: extreme weight gain, constant headaches. My ob-gyn determined with the weight gain and frequent headaches that the hormones in this pill were too high, and triphasic pills seemed to give me headaches more often than not. I did much better on a consistent dose of low hormones. My pill at this time was switched to Microgestin 1/20. I lost all the water weight gain, and once my body detoxed from triphasic, the headaches and migraines lessened."

For Birth Control "Face cleared. Gained 5 pounds. No vomiting for me or irregular mood swings. Also, my periods are very, very precise. Only bad thing is the super decreased libido. Just don't care for it anymore, it seems."

For Birth Control "I have been on TriNessa for 3 months now. I am 14 years old and am taking it for consistency in my period, acne, and consistent flow. I was very excited to start it because I didn't have a doubt in my mind that it wouldn't work the way I wanted it to. The first month I was on my period for 24 days. In the short time I've been on it, I have gained 15 pounds!!!! I used to weigh 100-108 pounds, now I weigh 120! Makes me want to cry. I haven't changed my diet, and I have always exercised daily and remain very active. My acne has not improved, these two things are very devastating to my confidence. It has left me somewhat depressed and moody. I don't think I would recommend this, however, every person is different, and it may work differently for them."

For Birth Control "I've been taking TriNessa for over a year now, and I started taking it because I had such bad pains, where I would lay on the couch and cry. I started taking it, and the pains were still there but not anywhere near as bad. I could still function and want to get up and do things. It does not cause me to be moody, I've never gained weight from this pill, and I've never had any pregnancy scares on this pill. I do recommend this for anyone wanting to start taking birth control!"

For Birth Control "Used TriNessa for a little over a year. At the beginning, I was satisfied with this pill. Throughout time, I gained about 10 lbs. I've been really skinny my entire life and have difficulty gaining weight, so I was happy about that. My boobs grew too. I'm not prone to acne, but it helped keep my skin clear. Got headaches here and there, but nothing too severe. Eventually, I had to stop taking it because it gave me major depression and sad dark thoughts. I'm a happy person and didn't feel like my normal self at all. I also had 2 yeast infections during this time. Went back to my doctor and switched to Kariva."

For Birth Control "After being on Mirena for 7 years (2 rounds), I had my IUD removed after developing severe acne and depression. My doctor prescribed Trinessa, and I was hesitant to use it. I went birth control-free for 2 months with little to no improvement in my acne. I was also using Retin-A to help with it. I have now been on Trinessa for four months, and I'm so impressed. I rarely break out, and it clears up quickly. I still have scarring that's improving. I discontinued using Retin-A when I began using Trinessa. I gained about ten pounds, but it's not noticeable, and I actually feel more confident with my body now. My breasts did grow about one size as well. My mood also changed dramatically, I feel happier and more relaxed. The only negative I can say is the irregular periods. The first two months of use, I had very long periods, like three weeks at a time. Now I just skip the 'placebo week' and only get a bit of spotting 1-2 days. Overall, very happy!"

For Birth Control "This is my first contraception pill. I have had a great experience. I have been using it for a little over a year. The first two months were a little unusual, in a sense I was overly sensitive and emotional. However, after that, it's like I am not using any pills. No pain, no weight gain, no side effects. Oh, my boobs did get bigger since I started using them, but I don't think that was a bad side effect. My husband definitely likes it :)"

For Birth Control "This pill has been better than the last two brands I tried. I was on Tri-Sprintec for about a year, which I don't know why I put up with it that long. I wanted to throw up all the time! Second, I was on Tri-Previfem, which is also supposed to be the same pill, that one was even worse. It left a terrible taste in my mouth and made me gain weight, had even worse nausea, and worst of all, I acted like a monster! I was so irritated with everything. My doctor decided to have me try TriNessa, which all three of these pills are the same as Ortho Tri-Cyclen. This time, though, it actually worked. I feel back to myself again. I have been on it for about a year. I have had a little weight gain and sometimes slight headaches. But overall, I like it."

For Acne "I have been on TriNessa for almost 2 years now, and I haven't had any problems with it. I gained some weight at the beginning, but not too much. I started using it for acne and then was also using it for birth control, and both work great for me. Recently, I started getting a little acne back, but I'm pretty sure it's because of stress. Overall, it does the job well."

For Acne "I got it prescribed when I was 16 for my very hormonal acne (effective birth control was a nice bonus too, though). After about 2.5 months, my blotchy mess had become crystal-clear-as-ice skin. I was for 4 years, mostly very clear. Then I thought the problem was probably 'fixed,' and I went off it when I was 20. I thought it was giving me headaches too. Quitting was a nightmare. I had a 17-day period. Then it evened out to every 2 weeks. I started to break out like a volcanic range. I gained weight. I let this go on for 3 years, thinking it would stop. I finally decided I'd get back on it a month ago. My skin is so bad on the sides I wear '60s headscarves to hide it, but it's clearing up in other ways. So far, no headaches. Just nausea."

For Birth Control "Been on TriNessa for 6 months because my insurance won't give me Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I used to just go to the health dept and get Ortho for free, I was on that for 15 years and didn't have a single issue. TriNessa makes me bloated, irritable, depressed, sore, swollen breasts. I cry a lot, and I've gained 20 lbs! No babies is the only plus."

For Birth Control "My overall experience with this birth control was terrible. I had a false pregnancy and was moody and overemotional. The only two things good about this pill were it did keep my skin clear and my periods were very light. But with the weight gain/false pregnancy thing, my OB-GYN said the hormones in this pill were too high for my system. She switched me to an ultra-low dose, and the bloating was gone in no time."

For Birth Control "I went on TriNessa about a year ago for multiple reasons, such as acne, heavy periods, and just being sexually active. I went to my regular physician, and she prescribed me TriNessa. After about 3 weeks on this pill, I started noticing changes. I was gaining weight, which was strange for me as I stay around the same weight all the time. I was breaking out worse than before, and it didn’t show any signs of lightening up. My emotions were extremely hormonal, I could be laughing one second and crying the next. Not to mention, I felt as if I was going to throw up every morning. I thought maybe this was my body getting used to the hormones, so I decided to give it more time. About two months in, all of the symptoms were only getting worse. I had enough and got off of the pill. Within days, my mood was back to normal and I was no longer nauseous. But my skin has never been the same, I break out worse than before now, and I have hyperpigmentation, which I never had before. Absolutely do not recommend."

For Birth Control "I actually really like this birth control. It's doing a great job at preventing pregnancy with no alternate contraception. My only side effect has been weight gain, which no woman will be happy with, along with moodiness during my period, but that's pretty typical."

For Birth Control "I am now 37 years old with eight children. I had gastric bypass in 2012. I had originally started the depo shot after my last daughter, but my doctor was concerned with the possibility of weight gain, so he switched me to TriNessa in February 2018. I have had longer, harder periods since starting. I've had urinary tract infections every month since (thought I wasn't drinking enough water and giving myself the infection). I've had cramping, weight gain, bad headaches, breast tenderness, and recently figured out I had swelling in my legs due to this drug. I figured it out after my 2-year-old lost both my pill packets and my keys one day, and we hadn't found them for almost 3 weeks! (Found them in the box of powdered laundry soap on the dryer.) At this point, I figured I'd just wait a few days and get the new month worth of pills, so a day or so later, I was in the bathroom every little while to urinate, and I noticed that my legs were getting better! Which led me here to see what side effects others have experienced!"
