"I've been on this pill for almost a year. The first nine months (three cycles) went by without any issues. I was put on it because I get sick every time I get my period and my cramps are terrible. Halfway through my eleventh month, I got my period, but I figured it was just spotting, so I continued to take the normal pill. Almost six weeks later, I'm still bleeding, and I've felt faint the past few days. This is hell. I'm switching off of it next week."

"I was referred to get on birth control because of my abnormal menstrual cycle. At first, I was on Orthocyclen Lo, and after a year, decided that I didn't want to be on birth control anymore as I never remembered to take the pill. I then didn't have a period for about 5 months, and finally, it returned to my normal 7-day cycle. The next month, it was on for a whole month before I decided to go back to my doctor's office because it was driving me insane! They then suggested that I take LoSeasonique. I just finished my first pack, but I don't like this pill at all. I feel awful each and every day! I have really bad stomach pain, and I constantly feel like I have to vomit. Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing these symptoms!"

"I have been experiencing quite a few of the symptoms I've read in this forum due to Seasonique. I am looking to stop taking the medication but only saw a couple of people that stated they stopped taking it, but no follow-up information in regard to what happened when they stopped. I'm curious to know how long the bleeding took to stop or if maybe switching to another medication stopped it? Please HELP!"

"I have finished a 3-month pack for the purpose of reducing heavy bleeding probably caused by fibroids. The breakthrough bleeding never stopped. The package insert says this symptom occurs in 10% of the patients. Pros: more energy because I have fewer heavy periods. Cons: still have abdominal pain once in 3 months during period, and have a small amount of bleeding every day. I haven't decided whether to continue for another 3 months or seek a different treatment."

"Started taking the generic brand. The first two months worked fine. Three days into my third pack, started spotting. Now I'm full-blown on my period. Have always bled for five days and always lighten up by the fourth day. I'm still bleeding very heavy, and it's day six. Not sure if I should stop taking the pill or wait it out."

"I started taking this medicine in the beginning of Nov. 2011, mainly to reduce my hormonal acne and to regulate my period. At the end of that same month, I got my period, and surprisingly, the cramps were not severe. In fact, I had never had such a peaceful period in a long time. Since then, my periods have been painless. :) In mid-December, I noticed that the severity of my acne had diminished and my skin had started to clear. At the end of Jan. 2012, I got 5 painful cysts on my face. I was extremely upset, but I decided to be patient and stick with it. My patience paid off. It is the end of February 2012, and my face looks way better. I haven't had any cysts since then. As for the side effects, just nausea when the medicine is taken on an empty stomach. I LOVE IT."

"I didn't even make 6 days into the pack before I had to quit from the worst bleeding I've ever had and severe depression and anxiety. I have 2 LOs 22 months apart, and I'd rather do that all over again than take this birth control."

"I have been on Orsythia for 6 months for controlling dysmenorrhea, or painful periods. Before starting birth control overall two years ago, I missed at least two days of school and work a month because my cramps, backache, nausea, and headaches prevented me from doing more than sitting in bed crying. After Orsythia, I barely get a period, it lasts four days, and I rarely need to use anything more than a pantiliner. I get the occasional cramp, but nothing unmanageable. I love this pill!"

"I’m currently on Levora and have been taking it since mid-July. I’ve had my period for 11 days now, which is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It isn’t an unbearable period with bad cramps (although there are random rumbles here and there), but it IS a big nuisance! And so random! Thankfully, I’ve experienced some weight gain (I was quite slim and was pleasantly surprised to notice my breasts getting bigger. My bf is quite happy too :)). I hope this period ends soon, though, because it’s not exactly the easiest thing to have for this long, and I’d like to be able to enjoy the rest of the summer without a nagging period to ruin plans."

"I've been taking Lutera for dilated veins in the uterus (PVC). I've been on it for about 3 months to ease cramps and decrease bleeding, but it hasn't really done either. During the first month of the pill, I bled daily, so I didn't necessarily have a period. I also gained about 5 pounds within 2 weeks, became extremely moody, and still had issues with cramps. Month 2, I still experienced a lot of spotting, but it would be suppressed for about a day or two, then continue for a week. I actually had a lighter period, and some of the cramping was eased, but the weight gain and moodiness came with depression, lack of energy, and made my skin break out (seeing I never really had acne issues). I'm almost done with my 3rd pack, and I plan to switch pills once I'm able to visit my doctor again."

"I was put on this because I originally had irregular bleeding. Normally, a week before my period, I would spot, have my period for about 3 days, and be done. Since being put on Orsythia, I've already been fully bleeding for 2 weeks plus 1 week of heavy spotting beforehand. Needless to say, I have an emergency OB appointment on Monday to get me on something else that doesn't make this condition worse than it already was. The only two things this helped with were the life-altering cramps/body pains during PMS, and it also did not take away from my sex drive (though I could not even have sex because of the erratic bleeding).... I would NOT recommend this to my worst enemy."

"A new doctor switched me to this one from Beyaz. I had gotten migraines once every six months or so before I started birth control, and on Yaz and Beyaz, I had never had any real issues, I was able to function with over-the-counter medicines for them. I just finished month number 3 today. During the first month, I had 2 migraines, with one that lasted two days, and I had to go to the health center because I couldn't stand it any longer and got a shot for it. After that, I went to my family doctor and was given migraine medication. I have had 8 migraines in the span of three months and have had to medicate with migraine medication instead of Motrin or Excedrin, add in extremely heavy period, cramps, and nausea, and you can see why I'm switching back."

"I've been on Sronyx for about 2 years. It is an incredible birth control for lighter periods and less pain. I have little to no back pain on this pill, and before it, I would have unbearable back pain. I really didn't experience any weight gain or physical changes. However, I noticed that my sex drive dropped completely. I have no sex drive and just have become overall not interested. I also have noticed that I feel almost flat in emotions, as if my emotions are not very happy anymore. When I did try another BC brand, I noticed a significantly higher sex drive and better mood, but had extreme pain on it, so I had to switch back to Sronyx. Sronyx is a great pill, but for me, the flat moods and low sex drive have caused me to search for another brand where I can truly feel myself 100%."

"I have been on this pill for 5 weeks. I started it the 3rd day of my period as my Dr. instructed. It seemed to make my period go away! That was nice. I have consistently taken the pill every morning at approx. the same time. I have not spotted at all. I have not been on any pill in at least 15 years. I'm 35 with heavy periods and cramps and taking it just for that. As my cycle is around 35 days, I'm anxious to see if it shows up or if this pill is already working! I hope it's working because I've been a hormonal mess, and my skin has been breaking out. Pros and cons are currently even."

"I am on my 2nd pack on my third month of pills. I have been on the generic brand of Seasonique called Ashlyna, starting on my 6th month. The first month, as soon as I started, I thought it was going to be awesome. By the second month, I started bleeding and bled like a heavy period for a little over 3 weeks. Called my doctor, she said that my body just had to get used to it. The third month was just fine, and the 4th month as well. The fifth month, I started spotting here and there, but nothing serious. Now I am starting on my 6th month and on the last pack, and I have been spotting since October 6 and just got a heavy period today, and I am not due for a period till 3 more weeks. I am going to wait it out and see what happens. Good luck, everyone."

"I was on Falmina for three years, but when Walgreens bought Rite Aid, I was given Aviane, exact same low dose as Falmina but the generic brand. I've never had breakthrough bleeding on Falmina, but with Aviane, I bled EVERY DAY of the pack. Also, I've had terrible anxiety and mood changes. Never taking this pill again."

"My doctor recommended this pill to help balance my hormones and regulate my flow. I have been on the pill for a month and will not be taking it a second month. I had spotting every day and became anemic."

"So I started these new pills, Seasonique, in September 2019. All went smoothly for the first 12 weeks, got my period at the end, it wasn't too horrible like before either. Well, I started the 2nd 12-week pack, and about 4-5 weeks in, I started spotting and have been since. About 6-7 weeks now, and next week I'm due for my normal period. I'm going to give it a chance, and maybe after my 'regular period' and starting the next pack, it'll regulate again, but if this happens again, I'm done!"

"I was put on this birth control about four months ago. My skin is dry, itchy. My breasts are tender. I feel fatigued most days. Let's talk about periods. My first period on this pill was fine - less pain, less bleeding. I thought, oh my goodness, I'm going to love this pill. Then, bam, massive blood clots, heavy bleeding. Now I'm having my period twice in a month, about 7 days apart! What!? I'm in my early 40s, this is no good for me. I went through a large pack of pads and an entire pack of tampons in two days! Then it appeared my period was black, not red, but black! I told my husband we have given it 24 hours before I was going to the ER. I'm constantly hungry and thirsty too! I really think this pill really needs to be evaluated again!"

"I'm a 43-year-old black female and have been dealing with fibroids since 2013. I was told that the BCP would stop the bleeding. I would bleed for 90 days at a time and had to be put on iron pills and stool softener. I've been on them for over 4 months. Two days after I started them, I started bleeding. Now I'm about to have a hysterectomy due to going from 1 fibroid to 7. They didn't shrink at all. I got the last 5 in the last year. I did not break out, but did gain a lot of weight. My doctor wanted me to take them for another 12 months. I said to heck with that! Glad to be off these babies."

"This medication is absolutely awesome! I had been taking Ortho-Tri-Cyclen for years and had continuously suffered from breakthrough bleeding. I have tried other birth control medications, but nothing helped until I decided to try Seasonique. It is a miracle drug, no more mood swings or abnormal bleeding. This pill is a lifesaver!"

"I have been on Portia for 4 months for heavy and long periods. I had an ablation for fibroids 2 years ago, and it was a failed ablation which left me with one tiny fibroid. It was causing problems with periods lasting up to 8 days and spotting in the middle of the month. I am so pleased with this pill. I am 47, and I am ready for my periods to be over. Being on Portia allows me to plan my vacations. My periods are lasting about 6 days now, with the 1st days being basically spotting and day 5 being light and day 6 being spotting with a watery drainage. My only problem is that my sex drive has been very high. I thought it was my age. I have always had a sex drive, but now it is so unbearably high. I like this pill and hope that my days continue to decrease. I will keep the sex drive because I am going to need it when my soulmate comes. lol"

"I have been taking this pill, Sronyx, for a year now. I had originally started to help regulate my cycle. The first three months were bad! My period was so heavy and a little over 2 weeks long. I asked my doctor for advice, and she told me my body just needed to get used to the pill. So I continued to take it. My periods are about 7-9 days, they still are not predictable, moderate amount of bleeding, however, very painful cramping. I have headaches frequently and have noticed bloating. I also have bad breakouts around the time of my period, like cystic acne. Overall, did not really help me with what I needed, so would not recommend."

"Seasonique was great for 2 months, and then on the 3rd month, I started to bleed heavily. Every time I stood up, I felt like I peed myself. Every minute, I had to change my pad/liner, and then blood clots. It was just bad. Very uncomfortable. My period was light for the first week, and then 2 more weeks, that’s when it got heavy, heavier than my regular period. So yes, maybe my body was transitioning, but I honestly couldn’t stand it. I hate that uncomfortable feeling, especially at night. I would leak all the way down to my bum crack (sorry). And I would get very hot at night. I am officially off birth control. I’d rather get my period every month for 2-3 days, work out, have a good diet, and drink water and know my body, rather than not knowing what is going to happen. Obviously, everyone’s body is different, but the heavy periods ain’t it. Ain’t about that life, like I said, I’d rather get a light period every month than deal with a heavy one for weeks. Also, I had bad cramps!"

"This has been such a sweet relief. I wish I started sooner as soon as my periods were getting slowly heavier and horrible. After throwing up on my last period and getting anemic - enough was ENOUGH and decided to speak to my doctor. After getting my script filled and examined (I had nothing wrong internally), I got Seasonique. Took about a month for my body to settle down. EXPECT some side effects: headache, tender breasts, and fluid retention until your levels even out. YOU MUST take the pill the SAME time EVERY DAY! I experienced one breakthrough bleed because I was 8 hours late in taking one, and it lasted a week. This is because the hormones last so long in the bloodstream, and any slight dip triggers bleeding. Good luck in starting!! :)"
