Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I have been having a hell of a time finding the right b.c.! Major mood swings, cramps, nonstop bleeding, no sex drive, but so far I like Aviane. I'm on my second month. I am no longer bleeding (first pack I did for a while, but my body had to adjust). No mood swings, normal sex drive, breasts a bit tender and larger (not mad about that), appetite a bit bigger, but for me that's good. I need to gain weight."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "My periods have been getting very heavy as I've been getting older (just turned 40). I was told to start the pack on the Sunday I started my period, so I was on my 3rd day. Every day since then, I've been bleeding various amounts, and some days have had mild cramps. Hoping by the second trial pack this stops. One week of heavy periods is better than every day of the month bleeding. My libido is lower, but not sure if that's the medicine or the fact I'm bleeding daily :("

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I started taking the generic of Seasonique on August 16th. It is now October 11th, and I have not stopped bleeding. It's the equivalent of a moderate period. I am trying to wait it out and take it through the end of the first pack to see if the bleeding subsides, but I still have another 5 weeks, and I'm not sure it's worth it."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "If you are thinking about this pill, Seasonique, one word - DON'T. I'm 45, with my tubes tied, but have had bad cycles most of my life. I thought 4 cycles a year, YASSS GREAT, now I am on day 17 and I am ridiculously sick at the stomach and still bleeding!"

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "On my second month. Just starting to get spotty (panty liner is enough) but nothing that isn't manageable. The first 2 weeks I had minor headaches and nausea, but it went away. Very tender breasts still. So far, month one--no period. Yay. Great not to have a period, but if the spotting gets worse (I think it may), that kind of defeats the whole purpose long term. I'm using this to stop periods while training for a half marathon. So far, its purpose for now, I'm fine. As far as sexual activity, it would be uncomfortable because the spotting is dark, slimy, and weird. But that's not an issue now.... So pros and cons. But no period 3 months in a row (hopefully), that's all right by me!"

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "Originally was put on Levlen as a last resort to treat my menorrhagia. After 6 months, it eventually made my cycle normal-ish, which was great after dealing with that for 2 years. Experienced enormous weight gain. Since going on it 3 years ago, I have doubled my weight. Exercise and diet haven't stopped the weight gain, heaviest I've been in my life. It has happened to other members of my family with taking Levlen, so it might not happen to everyone. Had a lot of fainting, passing out 6 months in, my GP didn't really look into it. My mental health got worse on it too. Huge difference in my mood, developed clinical depression and anxiety. When I stopped taking the pill, there was a huge difference in my overall mood."

"I have been taking the brand Mylan, I have had the worst experience with it. I suffer from ovarian cysts and am close to getting them removed, and I am on month 5. I bled every day since the first day. It switches up on me from spotting to heavy bleeding. The cramps it gives me are unbearable, and the horrific night sweats! I also gained depression and fatigue. I’m going to the hospital for the pain constantly, and they all say the same thing: “Your body needs to adjust to the hormones,” blah blah blah. I’d choose heavy bleeding over this any day! I don’t recommend this BC!"

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "Lutera has been a nightmare for me. I started it because of heavy bleeding and bad cramps. I just finished my 2nd pack, not taking the placebo pills. I haven't stopped bleeding since the end of the 1st pack's 2nd week. Four weeks straight of bleeding. Not spotting either-I'm going through a box of super tampons each week and clotting just as bad as my period off the pill. Instead of awful cramps, I'm having mild cramps and occasional sharp pelvic pain. But... it's every day now, not just two days of my period. It also left me unmotivated for the first several weeks and worsened my depression during that time. Thankfully, the mental side effects seem to be subsiding. So, not only dangerous to my mental health, it's also doing the exact opposite of what I started it for. All the nurses will say is 'the spotting could continue for the first 3-6 months.' At the rate I am having periods, SIX MONTHS is 45 periods (almost 4 years' worth of bleeding for me). If it doesn't stop by the end of this pack, I'm beyond done."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I started this pill a week before my first period was due because we were going on a holiday. About a week before we were leaving and still in the first pack, I started spotting brown. It’s now day 13, and it’s getting heavier with clots, and I’m in Mexico with my family and can’t do anything! This sucks!!! I should have just gone with a normal birth control, and I would have been fine. Or just allowed my period to come while on holiday for the last 2 days."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I started to take Alesse a little over 2 months ago, and my period has not stopped! The breakthrough bleeding is ruining my life. Every single day, I have what is like morning sickness, breast tenderness, and feel sick to my stomach. GET OFF THIS PILL. Oh, and it caused me to break out!"

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I've been on this pill for almost 3 months, only 1 week away, but I've been bleeding since the second week I started this pill. I haven't had any weight gain or acne problems, but I have had a significant decrease in energy (which, with how much I enjoy running, is not working out because I would rather sleep all day and lay around, and that's not me at all). Also, sex drive = non-existent, and I should have the urge at 23, but it just isn't there. So, this definitely isn't the right pill for me. It did eliminate the cramping, though, but the bleeding and being worn out are too much to handle."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "After years of severely painful and agonizing 7-day heavy periods, my doctor recommended Levora. I have been on this pill for over a year now, and it has been amazing. The only side effects I have had are positive-my boob size increased an entire cup, and I have just about no acne! My periods have also shortened to less than 3 days, and they are extremely light, no pain or headaches anymore either. My period comes the same time, same day, every single month. I was petrified to start birth control, but I couldn't stand the horrible periods anymore. I am so happy my doctor suggested Levora, as I no longer lose sleep laying awake in pain! This pill has done wonders for me!"

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "To preface this, this is merely my experience, for everyone's experience may be different. I was prescribed this after having abnormal periods (skipping 1-3 months, and upon arrival, lasting for 1-2 weeks in addition to excruciating pain). During the first month, the first week I felt somewhat nauseated and tired, but the rest it cleared away. Acne was gone, the period was lighter. However, starting now on the second month, I am completely repulsed by food and have other gastrointestinal symptoms on top of pre-existing conditions (which is a problem for someone who does weight training), and I'm tired pretty often, thus I will no longer be taking it. Additionally, Orsythia has also made my mental illness symptoms far worse."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "For the first 6 months, Lutera worked very well for me, unlike other birth controls that I previously took. Lutera had almost no side effects, such as weight gain and moodiness. My periods were regular and lighter, then, after about 6 months, I started getting my period every 2 weeks. This went on for 2 months until I stopped taking the pill."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "My doctor prescribed this pill to help reduce my heavy bleeding due to fibroids. I'm on my 2nd month and am very happy with the pill, it has significantly reduced my period flow. I also have anxiety and have noticed this pill has helped with my mood swings. I'm more relaxed and less irritated. I don't get spotting in between periods, and that's a plus."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "So after having my second child and finishing nursing, I was having major cramping the week of my period. Not debilitating, but extremely uncomfortable. My OBGYN recommended Seasonique more for hormone control than for birth control. I tried it and absolutely loved it for the 65 days. Then my period started earlier than I'd anticipated, but no big deal, right? I'm currently on day 18 of my period. Aside from the cramps and some general moodiness, my periods before lasted 4 days and weren't a big deal. I've now bought stock in Tampax and Kotex. It'll lighten up and then wham! Called my doctor and she's switching me back to Loestrin, which previously did nothing to help with the cramps and moodiness, but at this point, I'll take it!"

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I switched to this primarily due to the appeal of having only four periods a year and stayed on it for three years. Generally, it was uneventful: I didn't gain weight, it had no effect (positive or negative) on my acne, my breasts stayed the same size. However, it destroyed my libido. It was so gone I thought I was asexual. It wasn't until I couldn't get my script refilled (I couldn't get an appointment that mixed in with my work schedule), so I had to get off the pill, which then led me to find out that I am not asexual and, in fact, had a libido. Another down point was the spotting I got in between periods and the effects of the period seem to have been compounded (i.e., compared to pills for monthly periods). I was sore, tired, and irritable."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I've been on this for I think four months now. Before taking it, I had a weird issue where I had spotting that lasted for months. By my first week on Falmina, the weird spotting went away. However, I started bleeding a few days before my first round of placebos, and then my first period on the pills was absolute hell. I missed classes due to excruciating cramps and uncontrollable bleeding. I used both NyQuil and Tylenol but still rolled with pain for the better part of a week. Despite that, every month since has been absolutely lovely. Since starting Falmina, my libido has risen considerably, which is nice for both me and my partner. On top of that, the pills have fixed the issue that I originally took them for (except the bad period)."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I went from being a positive, upbeat, never-cry type person. I'm stopping it today because I have been having suicidal thoughts, huge bouts of rage, self-harming behavior, anxiety, extreme irritability, and horrible feelings of being worthless. I have NEVER felt like that before until I took this for 8 months. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I've been using Alesse 28 for a little over a year now, and it's my first birth control pill! I use it mainly for period regulation since my period wouldn't come for 6 months at a time and for birth control (10/10 effective when used properly). When I first started taking Alesse, my abdominal region felt a bit uncomfortable, but within a matter of about 2 weeks, it went away. Some symptoms I've taken notice of were the mild mood swings I'd have once in a while and a little bit of dizziness. Now, the abdominal pain and dizziness I seemed to have experienced a year ago have subsided, but the mild mood swings are still apparent and prevalent. I have no consistent weight loss or weight gain, acne, hair loss or hair growth, or loss of sex drive."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "Switched from Tri-Sprintec because of side effects. Started Jolessa. The first 7 weeks were great, no side effects, no issues. I'm now ten weeks in. I started spotting at the end of week 7, which was normal, but it kept getting heavier. I've been bleeding heavily for 14 days now, longer than any of my periods before birth control. I've also had cramps so bad that they caused vomiting, which has never happened before. I'm nearly doubled over in pain half the day and constantly nauseous. I saw one doctor, they told me to stick with the pill, so I did, but my symptoms only continued to get worse, so I got a second opinion from a doctor trained in this field. She recommended stopping the pill. So, I did, the bleeding is the same after being pill-free for three days. I've been really sick: nausea and headache. Starting Jolessa was great, and I thought it was helping, but if I knew it would have been such a nightmare, I never would have gone on this pill."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I started taking this medication on July 7, 2015, to try and regulate my periods and control my abnormal heavy uterine bleeding I had been experiencing. Everything was fine (minor nausea) the first 2 1/2 weeks, and then I started bleeding on July 25, 2015. Just lightly the first 2 days, and then it's heavy. Today is August 6 (13 days and counting), and I still am bleeding heavily and cramping badly."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I have been on this birth control for 4 months now. And have bled 3 out of the 4 months. I thought my body would have adjusted by now, but it hasn’t. I had a period the first month taking it. The second month I didn’t bleed until 2 weeks in, and now I’m on month 4 and still have not stopped bleeding. I started taking Seasonique because my periods were so painful and heavy. My doctor says to continue to take them, but I’m not because it should not take this long for your body to adjust. I’d rather deal with a heavy period for a week and just take ibuprofen for the cramping than to have continuous heavy spotting. I could not even enjoy the summer months at the beach because of this. I have gained 5 pounds, and I’m always nauseous and tired. I do not recommend this birth control."

Ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel "I am on my third and last package of LoSeasonique; it has been rough. During the first pack, I started spotting daily in week 5. This progressed to a full-fledged cycle by week 9 and lasted for three weeks, so my doctor instructed me to skip to the yellow pills and then begin a new pack. During the second pack, around week 5, the spotting started again. During week 8, I passed out. In week 10, I began having extremely heavy bleeding that proved impossible to contain, resulting in two terrible accidents. Thank God I was home both times. After getting the next prescription and reading the pamphlet again, I discovered all of these experiences are considered severe side effects of the pills."
