"Overall, great birth control. I've tried three different birth control pills and I think Chateal is my favorite. I have, however, experienced some negative side effects. Weight gain: my weight always fluctuates, but in the last 8 months of using this birth control, I’ve gained 10 pounds. Anxiety: I’ve noticed my anxiety and my depression peak, especially the week prior to my period. I was giving it a few months, but I realize it’s the pill because my anxiety skyrockets during week 3. Now for the pros! In addition to the negative side effects, I’ve had amazing effects as well. One being regularity: my period works like clockwork and I’m back to 3-day periods like when I was a teenager. It’s great! I’ve also noticed a lighter flow. I don’t normally have skin problems, and this has had no effects on my skin, possibly has made it even clearer."

"Previously, I was on a Microgestin pill from Planned Parenthood, but I wanted a pill that would let me have my periods, so they switched me to Chateal. It was a bit more potent than the one I was previously on, but I really did not experience any worse side effects. I experienced moderate weight gain - I am already pretty petite, though, so this did not bother me. The only time I experience any mood problems is the few days preceding my period. The pack that I have has the 4th row of reminder/sugar pills, and I usually do not start bleeding until my 3rd or 4th day in, and the periods are light and very manageable. All in all, I have had a great experience, however, my transition from Microgestin pills to Chateal may have played a leading role."

"The first month of taking it, it had my emotions all out of whack. There was definitely a decrease in my sex drive. I didn't see a difference in my weight or acne. Those stayed about the same. My period cramps are much worse. But overall, the pill did prevent me from getting pregnant."

"This pill has really worked for me. It's the only BC I've ever been on, and it's been close to two years of no worries. The first week I started taking it, I had to pee like crazy. I've gained some weight, but I don't know if I can blame it on the pill."

"I've been taking Chateal for almost 6 months, and it's been pretty great. I've had no complications or side effects. I take it within a two-hour frame every morning, and my period comes on schedule every month. Other birth control I've taken gave me breakthrough bleeding for 2+ weeks, but Chateal keeps me regular."

"So I haven't really been on this brand of the pill for long, however, it has been a horrible experience. A little background: I have been on another brand of birth control before but went off of it and instead was put on this one. After a week, I started experiencing so many horrible things. First was acne, my skin is usually clear, but this made me break out a lot. However, the worst part of it all is the mood swings and emotions. I cry for absolutely no reason and just feel sad. I'm usually not like this, but now even talking to someone will make me burst out in tears, and based on other reviews I see I'm not alone. In terms of not getting pregnant, if used correctly, it does the job, but to me, it's just not worth it."

"I've been on Chateal for almost 2 months now. I went to Planned Parenthood because I was having irregular bleeding as well as really bad acne, which I never had before. They gave me a year's supply of Chateal, and as soon as I went home and saw the bad reviews, I was really hesitant to start them. The first few weeks, I felt a little nauseous, but nothing unbearable, a few headaches, but they weren't totally painful, and my acne cleared up. I was really happy that it seemed to agree with my body until I started to notice I was losing some hair. Now, 2 months into it, I feel like I've lost quite a lot of hair, there's no bald patches or anything, but I used to have really thick hair, and now my hair has really thinned out, and strands are always coming out constantly. It's making me really insecure about something I never had a problem with. As much as I'd love to stay on Chateal, I've made an appointment with my new doctor to hopefully find something else."

"Works great for preventing pregnancy. Cleared up my skin. Gained a little weight. Crazy irritable and emotional a couple of days before my period, with a few breakouts and constipation. Haven't had any luck with skipping my period-always breaks through somehow. So I'm switching, but it's been pretty good so far anyways."

"So it did its job in keeping me not pregnant, but I did notice some weight gain, and my reason for leaving this pill was huge: ZERO sex drive. I have never had a problem with this before, nor have I ever had a problem with self-lubrication, but almost immediately after starting this pill, my sex drive plummeted, and I could not get wet during sex at all."

"I took this pill for already 1 week and started experiencing negative side effects to it. I was already cautious from reading others' reviews and wanted to watch out and see what I might experience. They were so not good. I've dealt with severe acne growing up and I have finally felt confident in my skin and body when I finally got it to go away. When I got on this pill, I saw acne all over my face almost the next morning. I broke out everywhere. Then I've noticed I feel major bloating and have noticed I am way more emotional than usual. I am already a highly sensitive person and this pill was not right for me at all."

"With all the bad reviews, I was scared to try this! So far, I have had 0 symptoms: no weight gain, no hair loss, no appetite increase/decrease. I guess everyone's body is different, but this birth control works amazing for me."

"I started Chateal four months ago. Bad idea, I've gained 20 pounds, something extremely unusual for me because I had the same weight since I was 15, and I've been having acne episodes, which is even more rare because I never had it before either. No severe mood changes, but I've been very tired and sleepy too. Conclusion: This pill sucks. I can't wait to change it."

"I started this birth control a year ago, and for around 9 months, everything was fine. I was emotionally stable, there wasn't any significant weight gain, and my periods were super predictable and manageable. I ran out around the end of November, and I elected to take a break from the pills and didn't refill. When my period came in December, PMS hit me like a freight train. It was awful, so I reordered and everything was totally different the second time around. I don't know whether the formula changed at some point, or if something changed with my body, but I've had prolonged vaginal bleeding and have been experiencing crippling depression and anxiety. I stopped taking the pills last week and everything is 100% better."

"When I first started this birth control, I thought that it actually improved my mood, but after a couple of months on the pill, I have become extremely irritable. I start fights with my boyfriend constantly that end up in screaming matches, and just overall an angry person. That is not how I was at all before taking the pill. The pill has been effective in preventing pregnancy in two ways: one, its intended way, and two, hardly any sex drive save for when I'm actually on my period. I don't think this is the birth control for me, and I will be switching after I'm through with my last box next month."

"I've had a great experience on Chateal. I used to have terrible migraines and unbearable cramps that on more than one occasion threatened to send me to the ER (and only didn't because I couldn't stand up and walk to the car to get there), and that all stopped when I got on birth control. I started on Levora and switched to Chateal, the transition was seamless. I haven't had any of my previous problems and... it just works. If you are the kind of person who is able to take your pill at the same time each day (and really be consistent), then I would absolutely suggest this pill."

"I'm on my second month with Chateal. Honestly, I will stop using it for good. I gained 12 pounds in less than two months. I go every single day to the gym. I eat healthy, healthy, healthy!! My mood changed. I can't see my boyfriend because I feel like he is disgusting. I can't remember the last time I had sex with him. I have nausea, can't sleep, my knees are weak, my stomach hurts so bad. The good thing about it is that my periods are better. Every woman is different."

"I've been taking Chateal for 7 months now. It's been effective the whole time I've been on it, but it's been a horrible experience overall. It did not help with my period in any way. My periods are still the same length, they're heavier, and my cramps are worse. Acne never played a part in this as a side effect since I've never had a problem with acne. Taking Chateal literally made me feel insane. I have never in my life felt so sad, angry, and depressed for no reason. I used to only cry getting close to my period, and now I cry all the time the whole month about anything. I constantly felt depressed without a way out because I couldn't figure out why I felt this way. No one should have to feel this way."

"I must say this birth control was a horrible experience. I had taken Chateal for about 11 months. I experienced horrible mood swings and depression while taking this. I didn't pinpoint that it was the pill until I finally switched birth controls, and my mood swings have been far less than they have been the last 11 months. I know everyone reacts differently to birth control, and this one was NOT for me. Please be in tune with your body and how it reacts."

"Lately, I've been feeling 'off.' I feel moody and sometimes want to cry for no reason. I recently felt super nauseous, dizzy, and felt like I was going to faint while driving, but for no apparent reason. I went to the doctor, and everything was fine. I went to the optometrist, and everything with my eyes was fine. I've had panic attacks, severe anxiety, a feeling of 'blah,' headaches, and dizziness, plus all-around weirdness, and I believe it's from these pills. I was on a different birth control a while ago, and I got weird symptoms from it too. I'm going to change my pill and see if that does the trick. Plus, I've gained so much weight from this pill."

"I have been taking this pill for some time now, the first time I took it, it cleared my acne. No weight gain except in my boobs, went from a B to a C. Got off of it simply because I ran out. Back on it now. Some days I get nausea in the morning, some days I can be moody, and this time I have been breaking out like crazy. Been on it for 2 months now since the last time, will give it a few months to see if everything gets better."

"First time taking birth control. These pills were the worst. First week was fine, then I started noticing my hair was getting thinner and started spotting brown discharge for almost 3 weeks and started getting redder. I stopped taking them for 2 days and started bleeding heavy. The pills had me dizzy and really bad mood swings!"

"NO! Like someone said earlier, every pill affects every woman differently...but NO! Mood swings galore, like you would not believe. So bad some days I felt I was losing my mind. This happened to me once before on a different pill and I wasn't aware of it, but this time around I knew to be in touch with my body while using a different pill."

"This pill isn't horrible, but it isn't pleasant. You just have to ride out the initial side effect you feel (if you do, everyone is different). Mood swings and nausea were my biggest side effects. My mood swings were so awful, my boyfriend and I had constant nonstop fighting that nearly brought us to the end of our relationship numerous times. It's something you can't explain. I was so irritable for no reason and somehow always took it out on him. I just started my 5th month pack, and everything is so much better. My body has probably adjusted to the pill already."

"This is my first birth control. I'm 18 years old, and I've had it for about three months. It's not very long, but I've had a lot of side effects. I'm very emotional, and normally, it takes a lot to make me break into tears. Now I cry for everything. The worst side effect I've gotten is the pains. I get really sharp pains on my sides around my hip bones or right above my uterus, and it's not cramps. They come out of nowhere, and they are so painful I can't move. While my body is still adjusting, I still am not on the colored pills during my period. I get my period about mid-color, then once I'm on the white normal pill, my period stops, which in my opinion is great because for seven years, I was used to a whole seven-day period, now it's about four."

"I have been on Chateal for almost 3 years. I’ve read all these reviews and see that everyone hates it the first couple of months and gets off Chateal. Well, I hated it too the first 6 months. It gave me the worst headaches, backaches, and my breasts were sore. Also, I would get horrible chest pain. However, after those 6 months, I was fine. I never experienced any breakthrough bleeding. I always get my period when I’m supposed to, and it lasts 4-7 days. I think this is a great birth control because my partner and I don’t use condoms, and I’ve never had a pregnancy scare. I like it."
