"Can't recommend. The mood swings and fatigue were nothing compared to the violent nausea I experienced when taking this pill. I actually mistook the symptoms for food poisoning for the first couple days I was taking it. I figured my body would adjust eventually, but after a couple weeks I couldn't handle it anymore. The sickness subsided immediately when I stopped taking this pill. Estrogen can irritate the stomach, so it might just be that I'm particularly sensitive. I'm now taking a progesterone-only pill and so far no upset tummy. :)"

"I started Chateal four months ago. Bad idea, I've gained 20 pounds, something extremely unusual for me cause I had the same weight since I was 15 and I've been having acne episodes which is even more rare cause I never had it before either. No severe mood changes but I've been very tired and sleepy too. Conclusion: This pill sucks I can't wait to change it."

"I was on Chateal for 4 months and I didn't like it. I was always moody and very emotional. I was always feeling depressed and I didn't like that. I'm normally a happy person so when I started feeling this way. I immediately wanted to switch birth control. Only thing I liked about was that I had an appetite and was able to gain weight like I wanted too unlike the other birth controls I've taken. I didn't like being moody all the time so I switched to the depo shot and I've been so much happier."

"I always had really severe period pain and I would throw up. So I started a birth control and it made me feel horrible. I no longer threw up, but it made me severely depressed. I was afraid to try another pill. I started chateal and I didn't gain any weight. I didn't get depressed or break out any more than normal. And I no linger felt pain , I do still get slight nauseous around my period but no where near as bad as before. I have taken this pill a little more than a year and I have not gotten pregnant either. Although I use other precautions as well. My sister is looking for a good birth control and this is the one I've been recommending."

"I'm 18 yrs old and I started taking this after the first time I had sex, overall this proscription has proven to be so accurate but I am very big on taking it every day at almost the exact same time(30 mins off but never more than that) And I did notice when I first got on it my sex drive went down and I had been really moody. Things that wouldn't normally get to me did but not 6 months in everything is getting regular. Very, very effective!"

"This is the worst pill I've ever taken. It made me feel very sad, depressed and I questioned everything and everyone's existence. I felt crazy and not like myself for the whole 2 weeks I took it. My face started to break out severely and it only got worst in a short span of time. I'm glad I stopped taking this pill because I probably would have attempt suicide. I do not recommend this pill to anyone. Stay away from this one!"

"When I first started this birth control i thought that it actually improved my mood but after a couple months on the pill I have become extremely irritable, I start fights with my boyfriend constantly that end up in screaming matches, and just overall an angry person. That is not how I was at all before taking the pill. The pill has been effective in preventing pregnancy in two ways, one it's intended way, and two hardly any sex drive save for when I'm actually on my period. I don't think this is the birth control for me and I will be switching after I'm through with my last box next month."

"I've had a great experience on Chateal. I used to have terrible migraines and unbearable cramps that on more than one occasion threatened to send me to the ER (and only didn't because I couldn't stand up and walk to the car to get there), and that all stopped when I got on birth control. I started on Levora and switched to Chanteal, the transition was seamless. I haven't had any of my previous problems and...it just works. If you are the kind of person who is able to take your pill at the same time each day (and really be consistent), then I would absolutely suggest this pill."

"I must say this birth control was a horrible experience. I had taken Chateal for about 11 months. I experienced horrible mood swings and depression while taking this. I didn't pin point that it was the pill until I finally switched birth controls and my moods swings have been far less than they have been the last 11 months. I know everyone reacts differently to birth control and this one was NOT for me. Please be in tune with your body and how it reacts."

"I took chateal for 3 months, I was depressed, got nauseous every day, get horrible headaches, gained 20 pounds, got horrible acne, had the worst cramps, lost my sex drive. Stopped taking them 3 weeks ago, my acne is clearing up, my headaches are gone, my sex drive is back but I have been bleeding since I stopped taking them."

"The first month of taking chateal was fine. After a month went by I started getting acne which I never had, my mood swings were very uncontrollable, I became very very depressed, and very emotional. The side effects aren't the best"

"NO! Like someone said earlier, every pill effects every women differently...but NO! Mood swings galore, like you would not believe. So bad some days I felt I was loosing my mind. This happened to me once before on a different pill and I wasn't aware of it but, this time around I knew to be in touch with my body while using a different pill."

"This pill did clear my acne, but it took about six months. It gives me this weird feeling like I am about to burst out in tears, but I do not because there is nothing to be upset about when I think about it. I was in a negative mental rut today, and I think it was due to this pill. No weight gain, and I hope the mood swings are not as bad as I am naturally already a moody person. Very effective in preventing pregnancy. I stopped it a year ago for a more natural method of B.C., but resumed taking it because my acne came back."

"Been on Chateal for about a month now. Tried Depo previously, which was terrible. I bled for 6 months straight, my face broke out terribly and my sex drive was in the gutter. So far, the only thing I notice with this pill is that my cramps during the placebo week are WAAAAY worse than my cramps prior to taking chateal. And my sex drive went down a bit but not too bad. Also, breakthrough bleeding since I started taking it but I'm giving it a 3 month window to see improvement with that to see how my body adjusts to the hormones. Prior to taking chateal, I had a "luxury" period. About 4 days, barely any cramps or mood changes. Just a bit of nausea. I hope that doesn't change drastically."

"For many years I took a different form of combined hormone birth control pills (Apri), I eventually discontinued this when I realized it had been what was causing anxiety (panic attacks), low libido, and migraine headaches. Earlier this year I decided I would like to try a different type of pill and was given Chateal. I started in early March and have constantly questioned it. This type of pill has not caused the problems I had with Apri, which is great, and has also made my boobs about 2x bigger (!! awesome) but I have many other side effects. Side effects include: severe breast tenderness, weight gain (5lb in 4 months which is very unusual for me) but also just general abdominal bloating, cystic acne on face/chest/back (which I never have usually), poor sleep (waking up frequently), mild anxiety and sharp irritability, and thick white vaginal discharge (unrelated to yeast infection). Maybe this pill works for some people, but after 4.5 months, my body is clearly not taking well to it."

"Overall, great birth control. I've tried three different birth control pills and I think Chateal is my favorite. I have, however, experienced some negative side effects. Weight gain: my weight always fluctuates but in the last 8 months of using this birth control I’ve gained 10 pounds. Anxiety: I’ve noticed my anxiety and my depression peak, especially the week prior to my period. I was giving it a few months but I realize it’s the pill because my anxiety sky rockets during week 3. Now for the pros! In addition to the negative side effects, I’ve had amazing effects as well. One being regularity: my period works like clock work and I’m back to 3 day periods like when I was a teenager. It’s great! I’ve also noticed lighter flow. I don’t normally have skin problems and this has had no effects on my skin, possibly has made it even more clear."

"Previously, I was on a microgestin pill from Planned Parenthood, but I wanted a pill that would let me have my periods so they switched me to Chateal. It was a bit more potent than the one I was previously on but I really did not experience any worse side effects. I experienced moderate weight gain - I am already pretty petite though so this did not bother me. The only time I experience any mood problems is the few days preceding my period. The pack that I have has the 4th row of reminder/sugar pills, and I usually do not start bleeding until my 3rd or 4th day in, and the periods are light and very manageable. All in all I have had a great experience, however my transition from microgestin pills to Chatel may have played a leading role."

"The reviews online are correct. I got this form of birth control after explicitly telling my doctor I wanted to reduce breakouts, and she said this would help. I was excited. Went home and decided to read some reviews online. All horrible, especially regarding acne. I decided to give it a go anyway, hoping that only those with negative experiences reviewed the medication. After giving it my best shot I have given up. Nausea, headaches, and ACNE. The explicit thing the doctor said would improve (I actually have nice skin off birth control, except around that time of the month). Not only do the personal reviews often say this causes breakouts, the side effects of the medication literally says acne vulgaris is a possible side effect. HORRIBLE"

"This pill has really worked for me. It's the only BC I've ever been on and it's been close to two years of no worries. The first week I started taking it, I had to pee like crazy. I've gained some weight, but I don't know if I can blame it on the pill."

"I started taking this a week ago and I have also been very sleepy. I had about 12 hours asleep and felt the need to take a nap that afternoon. I also have been feeling like my ovaries were tender and somewhat sore. It's not very painful but uncomfortable. I was also very moody."

"Gave this an 7/10 because I’ve been on it for 3 years and haven’t gotten pregnant (yay!) BUT I recently found out this birth control has been suppressing my hormones. My hormone levels are at 1.4 and they should be at a 2.5 and above. My doctor told me birth control is supposed to regulate your hormones NOT suppress them. Also, my sex drive is nowhere to be found."

"I was on Chateal for about 2 months and the first month wasn't too troubling until I hit the second month and I developed a lot of emotional and mental instabilities that I've never had before, I came across suicidal thoughts and my sex drive was pretty much non existent which has never been a problem before (hence the bc). I got off of it after a week of a mental break down and I started feeling much better and myself again but I had HORRIBLE intense period cramps immediately after, I personally did not like this birth control "

"So I had to switch to Chantel because I do not have insurance. I had emotional issues amd I think for me personally was due to switching birth control pills. I was leaving for school like I had time after time and this one day I was leaving and I saw my cat and I had tears well up in my eyes. Omg. It has been better since im on my second month. I read some comments and I guess I am experiencing some fatigue As well. My biggest complaint for this is the acne!!! I didnt have flawless skin before but I would rarely get pimples and since I switched to this they are all over me! Face, chest, back of my neck and even on my scalp!!!! I can not wait to get a new pill! Acne alone makes me want to stop This pill!!"

"Works great for preventing pregnancy. Cleared up my skin. Gained a little weight. Crazy irritable and emotional a couple days before my period with a few breakouts and constipation. Haven't had any luck with skipping my period--always breaks through some how. SO I'm switching but its been pretty good so far anyways."

"So it did its job in keeping me not pregnant, but I did notice some weight gain, and my reason for leaving this pill was huge: ZERO sex drive. I have never had a problem with this before, nor have I ever had a problem with self-lubrication, but almost immediately after starting this pill, my sex drive plummeted and I could net get wet during sex at all."
