For Depression "Started using Lexapro 5mg and it only worked for a short time. Same with 10mg. Once I got to 20mg a day, it started providing me consistent relief for depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Feeling great daily now. Zero side effects. 10/10"

For Anxiety "The first 3-4 weeks are tough. I knew it would take some time, but I felt a bit like a zombie or a sloth those first few weeks. My anxiety fueled me before, and I suddenly had an “I don’t care” attitude about everything. Around week 3, I suddenly felt “CLEAR”. I was able to do things like go into my laundry room and do one load of laundry without feeling overwhelmed by the other 5 loads that needed to be done. My anxiety was an all or nothing situation - I either could do it all at one time or could NEVER get it done in my brain. Lexapro allowed me to realize that it’s ok to do part of a task and finish it later - and helped me remember to finish it later. I feel so much better!"

For Depression "I suffered from a constant level of anxiety since adolescence. In addition, my family life in childhood was a little turbulent. Later in life, after starting my own family and working hard in my career, depression slowly crept in. I felt a constant feeling of despair. This went on for years as I still functioned to provide for my family. I slowly stopped doing the things I loved dearly, such as fishing. I then realized through steady therapy and meditation for over a year that I still couldn't get rid of the despair feeling in my gut. This mental and physical feeling could not be eliminated. This result proved to me that what I was experiencing was not from my childhood, but it was in my DNA. I was an anxious person with an increasing depression problem my entire life. I decided that I should try Lexapro. My doctor prescribed 5mg. I've been on the 5mg for 6 weeks. I actually started to feel true happiness again. I started fishing again."

For Anxiety "I just started Lexapro 2 days ago. The doctor prescribed 10mg, but I am taking 5mg. I have severe reactions to medications which cause a racing heart. The first night I took it, I had no issues. Last night, I didn't sleep at all and had a panic attack/anxiety attack all night. Today, I still have anxiety and a tight chest. Please pray that this works for me. My husband has been paralyzed in an accident, and that's when all this started. I am his main caregiver and working 40 hours a week. It's been overwhelming. I am trying my best to stick to the meds to see if they work."

For Depression "Been off and on Lexapro for 4 years now. I dread having to go back on it as the side effects make me feel lousy - headaches, nausea, jittery, insomnia, lightheaded, and anxious. After a week though, I feel back to normal and my energy and love for life return. Being a person who prefers not to take medication, I know that sometimes you can fight too long before you need a helping hand - Lexapro helped me. If you do get side effects at the beginning, I advise you to go with the flow, understand that it's the medication working & think positive - take care to you all."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I’ve been diagnosed with GAD since I was 16. I first tried sertraline, and that worked for me until I was 18 when I stopped taking it. Once my anxiety relapsed again a year later, sertraline didn’t work for me anymore. I then switched to Wellbutrin, but that didn’t work for me after 6 months of waiting. I honestly thought I would never recover from my anxiety… until I tried Lexapro! The very first week, I felt happier, I had more energy, I was talking more, I even told others that it felt like it was harder to be sad or to get stuck in that dark place when I’m anxious. Fast forward to 1 month on the drug, I haven’t even felt anxious for a moment. I feel like my old self! I have energy, I want to go out and do things, I just feel happy. I’m so glad I tried this drug. I was in a dark place struggling with my anxiety where I told myself I’d rather not live than to 'survive' each day struggling with my anxiety… If you’re reading this, DON'T GIVE UP!"

For Anxiety "An antidepressant that makes you horny. First, I would like to say that I have tried every antidepressant known to man or woman!!! My last script was Celexa, it was okay, but coming off that stuff made me want to stab everyone, and sex was close to nonexistent. Now here is the good part! Doc tried me on Lexapro, no noticeable change after day 1. Day 2, I felt really calm, but day 3, Wow!!!! All I could think about was sex! I was so wet. I have really bad anxiety, and Lexapro is orgasmic bliss!!! Thanks, Doc. Leslie from South Carolina"

For Anxiety "Hang in there! I am a woman in my mid-fifties who has developed paralyzing anxiety over the last few years. It got to the point this spring where I couldn't go to work. My doctor prescribed Lexapro. I started at 10 mg, and he increased it to 20 mg after the first week. I had never taken any antidepressants before. It took time, but it does work. Slow improvement. I am on week 9, and I finally feel like my old self. It is so difficult to think you will ever feel better. I know. But, it will get better! It may take time, but hang in there. The Lexapro has made a tremendous difference in the life. I hope it does for you as well."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I am a 32-year-old, healthy, and happy female who has dealt with minimal anxiety over the years due to hormonal imbalances caused by PCOS. & More recently, I was diagnosed with PMDD. I never had a depressive thought in my life until I woke up a few months ago with a horrendous bout of anxiety. It spiraled into constant panic attacks all day, scary intrusive violent thoughts, and depersonalization, all of which were extremely terrifying and new to me. After resisting, I decided to start Lexapro after my doctor insisted it would help. This page was the ONLY thing that got me through. I truly believed I would feel like that forever. Slowly, the medicine started working. I started with 5mg in the first week and had headaches, nausea, & insomnia. Within a week, all-day panic attacks stopped, & I bumped up to 10mg after a week. Truly, it all started to get better in week 3. Like a cloud lifted, and I felt so much more like myself. Now I've completed week 4, and I feel happy again and love life. PLEASE STICK WITH IT!"

For Anxiety "Taking Lexapro was the best decision I've ever made!! I've struggled with anxiety and depression since I was a kid. I had never taken any medications for it until I was 24. The anxiety had taken over my life. I could barely go to work, and I was up for most of my nights because my mind would be going 100 miles an hour, and I couldn't get my mind to stop racing. I had a lot of social anxiety. Every single little thing would seem like such a huge task or issue. I felt completely exhausted all the time, all I wanted to do was sleep. After about 4 months of being on Lexapro, I can finally say I am the happiest I've ever been! I've even started college, which is something I thought I would never have the courage to do."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "First and foremost, like so many others on here, Lexapro saved my life. I was not necessarily suicidal, but literally had no life and was scared all the time. For the most part, no one knew what I was dealing with. I was a highly respected professional who somehow managed to keep it to herself. I would sneak off to bathrooms all the time to go in a stall and calm down. If no one was in there, I would indulge in laying on the cold tile floor to just try and cool myself off. I stopped going to movies, on dates, church, or anything where I felt trapped. I was not afraid of flying, I was afraid of when the time between takeoff and when the captain turned off the seat belt sign. This medicine gave ME back, 5 years strong."

For Anxiety "LIFE SAVER. I had been struggling with severe anxiety since 2021, and nothing was seeming to help. My anxiety cost me my freedom and made it impossible to live life. Before my anxiety got really bad, I was always scared of meds, I had tried a few, and they also seemed to make me worse. So, with the start of my panic attacks and intense anxiety, I refused to take any meds. Fast forward to 2024, my anxiety was much better through exposure therapy and time, but I was still struggling daily and just couldn’t take feeling like I was walking on eggshells every day. I bit the bullet and got prescribed Lexapro, I started at a baby dose of 2.5, and months later got to 10. Pretty much no side effects, except insomnia for a few days. I have been on it for a year now, and I can say this medication has truly given me my life back. After a few months, I noticed my anxiety was basically gone, and my mind wasn’t racing. TRY IT!! Literally didn’t think my anxiety would ever go away."

For Depression "Lexapro has changed my life. I was reluctant to try a drug because in the past Zoloft and Paxil gave me headaches and made me feel foggy. I confess, Lexapro made me feel that way for the first two weeks, and then it was like I took sunglasses off and saw the world more clearly. It’s like I was living in a fog before. I have way more energy, feel happier, and think more clearly. My only regret was not starting this sooner."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have struggled with anxiety for my whole life but in the past 5 years, it has gotten uncontrollable, and I was crying every single day. I didn’t feel like myself and felt so lost. I am 22 and in nursing school, so there is a lot of pressure, but this has been something I’ve wanted and knew I could achieve, but couldn’t do it with my anxiety. I was VERY skeptical about taking anything and have tried every alternative I could think of, but I just couldn’t quite get there. I have been taking Lexapro 10 mg for over a month now, and it has made my life 100x better. I haven’t cried once or felt extremely overwhelmed the entire time. The only side effects I experienced were sweating, dry mouth, and a slight headache. These have all subsided after the first week. This drug has made me feel like myself again, and I didn’t know if I would get here, but I’m so glad I am. Don’t let the reviews scare you into not trying a medicine, it can help you if you let it. Give it time and push through. It’s so worth it."

For Anxiety "Lexapro changed my life for sure! My family has a history of anxiety, so it was not a surprise when I started having severe anxiety and panic attacks. That warm, flush, buzzing feeling that overtakes your body and your mind immediately thinks you're going to die or that you're sick. Your heart is racing and feels like it's going to jump out of your chest, and your head is spinning. It's a feeling I don't wish on anyone, and it was starting to control my life. Once I started Lexapro, I almost immediately noticed positive results. It took about 6 weeks to really notice significant changes and about a year before I would say I was 100% myself. But it very quickly made my life manageable, and now I can't imagine my life without it! I still get breakthroughs now and then where I get a bout of anxiety, but it's usually short-lived and manageable. If you have just started Lexapro, hang in there!"

For Depression "Lexapro really did save my life. I have been on it for ten years on 20mg. About 6 months ago, I decided with my doctor to wean off it over a period of about 3 months. I had been off it for 2 months and was feeling fantastic. However, 3 weeks ago, I crashed, and all the old depressive symptoms and anxiety came back. My doctor put me back on 10mg for the first week, then 15mg. It has been nearly 3 weeks back on the medication, and the roller coaster ride of emotions is draining. I know it will kick in after about 4 - 6 weeks and now realize I need to be on this drug for the rest of my life. It has saved me before and will save me again. Highly recommend. 10/10"

For Anxiety "Wanting to update you all on my journey 4 months on… I feel like my old self and the anxiety has gone. It took 9-10 weeks for me to feel better once starting the meds. It was an extremely tough few months, but I encourage you not to give up. The medication is life-changing, but it takes time to work. I'm now doing Pilates and feel the days go by much quicker as I’m not anxious about anything. Please remember it feels so tough, but the light is at the end of the tunnel. Stay strong, amazing drug. X"

For Anxiety "People!! It takes about 4-6 weeks to work! Don’t write a review when the drug has not settled and begun to give you the therapeutic benefits yet! 2-3 weeks into taking it, I felt rubbish, worst anxiety of my life, then pop, after about 4-5 weeks I feel the best I have felt in YEARS. I feel relaxed, calm, and ready to take on the world, live my life like a normal person. I’ve suffered extremely bad anxiety, stress, and panic attacks for over a decade, finally decided to try regular medication, not just take a Xanax when I feel it coming on. This medication I understand may not work for everyone, but at LEAST if you can, give it 6 weeks and commit to it if you’re going to try it. Changed my life. I will say though, the first month was bad anxiety, headaches, naps in the afternoon, and just horrible. Prescribed Xanax to deal with the side effects for the first few weeks, then once it settles, no side effects, just a calm and peaceful mind. Thank you."

For Anxiety "I have been on Lexapro 10mg 3x - most recently was Jan-May and then weaned myself off (under doctor's supervision) over 6 weeks and had no problems with withdrawal. I have recently started back because of recent stress in my life (nasty divorce) which left me worrying constantly, debilitating anxiety, unable to sleep and/or eat. For me it’s the panic that’s horrible. So I started back on Lexapro 10mg 3 weeks ago today. The first 2 weeks were tough... it seemed to take longer to kick in this time and I actually referred to this site a dozen times to reassure myself that it would indeed start to work, and it did! I did have the increased anxiety, loss of appetite (lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks), the “internal shakes”, morning dread, and insomnia for the first 2 weeks. I would say around day 10-14 I started to feel the meds taking the edge off, and by day 18 I had almost no anxiety at all. Literally none. It’s so worth the wait if you can just hang in there through the first few weeks."

For Depression "After enduring severe depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, brain fog, problems with focusing, and a sleep disorder since childhood, I went on 10 mg of Lexapro at age 40. It took 6 weeks for Lexapro to work, but my entire life changed. All of a sudden, my thoughts became clear, more positive, and I could focus. My severe anxiety was reduced, my sleep disorder dramatically improved, and I stopped thinking about suicide. I was slightly nauseous for a few weeks. The worst side effect I had for a few years was fatigue. I have been taking Lexapro for 15 years in doses of 10-20 mg. I can reduce my dose during the summer months to 15 mg. I have no intention of going off the drug."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Ok, so I don’t ever do reviews. Like ever. But this medication has changed my life. I’ve been on it for about 5 months now, and I’m honestly amazed. I’ve suffered from extremely bad depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I’m also a recovering alcoholic/addict with 8 months sober. I went from being literally at rock bottom to all of a sudden living life again. For the first time in years, my body didn’t ache all day long, my anxiety went away, and I started to sing in the car and get excited about nice sunny days! It’s crazy. I’m just super thankful. I take 10mg along with Wellbutrin and Adderall. But Lexapro has been the game changer. Let your body go through a little nightmare for the first couple of weeks. I promise you will all of a sudden hit a hump that you get over, and it’s so nice. Don’t get me wrong, I still have my moments and struggles in life, but I can deal with them now instead of breaking down. And I like people again. Give it a try."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I am 60 years old and have suffered from anxiety since I was 23 years old. Many times, the panic attacks were quite severe. I had trouble holding down a job, and there were times I couldn't drive and was terrified of being alone. I've tried so many anti-anxiety drugs, but I expected them to work right away. I've done years of counseling. In October of 2020, my doctor put me on 5mg of Lexapro. I knew what side effects to expect, and they lasted almost 3 weeks before I started to notice that it was working. In January, I started 10mg. I have not had an anxiety attack since I've been taking Lexapro. It gave me my life back. I feel normal for the first time in many years."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "It works! I've used this medicine on and off for 3 years, and it works. You just have to be consistent and patient. If you are alone, come to this site and read positive reviews of other people's experiences. If you have loved ones, rely on them. Just remember this is a MOMENT, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I've used different strengths of this medicine, 5mg to 20mg, and it does come with some side effects, like increased anxiety, dry mouth, fogginess, but it will pass. I'm starting on day 8 of my medicine today, and the side effects are there but trying to remain positive and busy. It affects everyone here differently, but remember to stay positive. Based on my experience, it takes about 2-4 weeks to get the full effects of the medicine. Hang in there and be strong. Write a review if you need to, no need to internalize."

For Depression "After 27 years as a police officer, I retired. I have PTSD. The one shooting I was involved in, the dead bodies, and all the other LE activities that come with the job left me paranoid. I kept dreaming about more shootings, fighting in my sleep, extreme anger issues, and not trusting anyone wearing all black. After five weeks on Lexapro, everything changed for the best. My family and I get along much better. I’m no longer jumping and fighting in my sleep, and I’m learning that just because people are wearing all black, they are not committing a crime. The downside is I’m not as interested in things as I used to be. My sex drive has gone down, and I do have a “I don’t care attitude.” My wife wants me to stop taking Lexapro because she said I’m too quiet. I want to stay on it because it feels good not to be angry all the time."

For Depression "Here to help someone else the way you all helped me when I came here for reviews. I will say, one word that stood out to me when I was hesitant and unsure about this medication was-LIFE CHANGING. That is exactly what it has been for me. Thankfully, I did not have any stomach issues or major side effects during my first two weeks of taking Lexapro. It is now nearly two months since I first began taking this medication. Wow! I feel incredible. I'm so relieved. I used to be so irritable and moody. I truly feel that this medication has saved my marriage, and my children are happier now that mommy isn't constantly sad, angry, or frustrated. I'm sleeping so much better, I'm able to focus more at work, and my mood is just all around so much happier! If you are hesitant or nervous to take the step...do it. You will be so much happier in the long run. Now I just wish I wouldn't have waited so long. Best of luck to you!"
