For Anxiety "I was taking Xanax..0.25 mgs three times everyday for over 13 years. My Dr wanted me to wean off of it so to help thru the process she had me take 5mgs per day of Lexapro (escitolopram). I kept taking the Lexapro for 1-1/2 years. During this time my Dr raised the dosage to 10 mgs daily. Lexapro wasn't the medicine for me. It caused more anxiety, mood swings and weight gain along with not feeling like myself. With the help of my Dr I weaned off Lexapro over a period of 3 weeks. After the 2nd day of not taking Lexapro I started with constant brain zaps, fatigue, dizziness with vertigo and felt overall awful. This continued for the next 7 weeks but the withdrawal symptoms lessened each week. I am now at the 8th week and feel wonderful!"

For Depression "I was diagnosed with PTSD,GAD and MD .My life was falling apart.I had dark thought ,wasn't cleaning my house , completely let myself go , No patience with my kids and a negative outlook on life .my anxiety was So bad I was taking Xanax to cope . lexapro has been a life saver for me 6 weeks later I'm back to my " normal self " I'm very productive , positive , I take care of my house , myself ... it will not make you happy or " high " but make life so much more enjoyable and easier . I'm at 20 mg of lexapro a day ! And I thank god for it ... I'm 10 lbs down . SSRI work different for everyone but if 2 month ago told me my life would change for the better I would have never believed it ! Give it a try ! We are all SURVIVORS! Good luck !"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I was terrified of taking lexapro after having horrible side effects with every single antidepressant known in the market. I am a 52 year old female and after reading all the negative reviews I quit taking it for a period of 2 weeks. I finally decided I was so miserable I would try it again and 3 monthes later I am doing great! No more fear of leaving house, negative self talk, constant anxiety and worry! I may have gained 1-2 pounds but if you take it you will be more likely to go out for walks, gym and get moving again which I have. Please dont let the negative reviews influence if the med will work for you or not. Im obsessive about weight gain and I am not gaining! Im really liking my new calm self, give it 6 weeks, big difference!"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I took this 10 years ago to help with depression and anxiety through a divorce in 2006. It helped... I got better.... I stopped taking it. This year has been difficult and after car accident I am nervous, anxious and very irritable along with depression and hopelessness. I just started taking again with just 10mg and can already tell a difference.. However due to no sleep Dr put me on a sleeping pill as well so I can't tell if the Lexapro is adding to the sleep aid for my sleeping."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Was absolutely awful for me. After 1 pill at the lowest starting dose I experienced horrible anxiety, insomnia and panic attacks in the morning so bad I was worried I'd have to go to ER for my heart. Prescriber told me to halve the dosage and this only somewhat lessened the effects. I could not tolerate this med at all."

For Anxiety "Have been on and off lexapro for the last 20 years (more on than off). This time I was off the medication from for about 5 months and the anxiety and depression was back even though I had a change of life style, doing plenty of exercise and changing work environments. For me the side effects were feeling nauseous, insomnia (normally 1 nights average sleep and the next no sleep, constant swallowing which I think is called dry mouth and just feeling miserable for the first 3 weeks. I'm into my fourth week now and sleeping a lot better and feeling much better in myself. If you are having the same side effects, hang in there as life will get a lot better"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I've been taking Cipralex on and off for the last 7 years but have been on it steady for the last 2yrs. This time I've only been taking 5mg. because of the side effects I got before, but due to certain circumstances in my life I need to increase it because my depression has worsened and my anxiety is very high. The reason I went on it again was because of anxiety attacks and my depression was not good. I really hate to have to increase it again because of the side effects but I have taken many other anti-depressants and their side effects were worse. I'm very sensitive to medication in general even Tylenol makes me fall asleep lol. But I'm also thing that maybe taking Clonazepam on a regular basis may help with my extreme anxiety."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I've been suffering from depression and GAD since 2000. It was pretty bad and I was immediately put on Paxil but also tried Welbutrin, Celexa, and Trazadone. The last three didn't really work for me but Paxil in combination with Clonazapam did help me after a period of time. I had some good stretches and some bad ones. In 2010 my doctor suggested Lexapro at 10mg. It was amazing. I felt great and I didn't need the clonazapam. This lasted for about 2 years but then a few stressful situations made my anxiety and depression come back. My doctor increased Lexapro to 20mg and also put me back on clonazapam. I was on this for about 2 months with no relief. Either my anxiety and depression were quite bad or the Lexapro just pooped out."

For Depression "I've been on Effexor XR before and was off it for a few years. Life got tough again and new dr put me on 10 mg lexapro. After a week, I can see light at the end of the tunnel and it might not be a freight train! After months of not being able to get back to sleep when I wake in the middle of the night, I'm now sleeping much better. Fuzzy thinking and digestive upset for a few days. I don't have much of an appetite, but that is really a good thing! I feel a little more focused too. I can feel my mental energy returning. So far so good."

For Anxiety "So far I'm happy with the Lexapro I had the yawning, drowsy in the afternoons one night consisted of the jitters but half a 5mg valium had me soon settled, and so far only needed it the once. I still don't have much of an appetite at the moment so that's the worst of it all so far fingers crossed it stays that way. I have noticed my anxiety getting better slowly it's only been 1 week on 5mg I don't want to get my hopes up but I guess that's my anxiety way of thinking kicking in."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I would rate the effectiveness of this medication pretty high. I took this medication about 12 years ago but it seems to be working better this go round. I feel more cheerful, am sleeping a little better and the best part is less anxiety which was severe. I'm super happy about the decrease in anxiety I've experienced. I'm probably going to ask for an increase in dosage. I'm currently on 20 mg. I wish you well to those of you who are just beginning this medication."

For Anxiety "I have a fear of driving and social anxiety when it comes to standing in line etc. did Zoloft for 2 weeks and thought my life was over. Went and changed my meds to lexapro half a pill every night before bed.i feel like me again. Not a different happy weirdo but the old me. I am now on 10mg and it's only been a month but I'm so glad how it's working. A little sweaty but that's about it . I also take blood pressure meds for my anxiety as needed. Before anyone tries xanaex or lorazepam I highly recommend this medicine. No side effects and non habit forming"

For Anxiety "I have pretty bad anxiety, with some depression. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed that I feel like my life is falling apart, and it feels so real. When I take my lexapro, I feel so much better. It's just a baseline, it doesn't MAKE me happy, it just allows me to feel like a normal human. I'm most myself when I take my medicine because I can focus on things outside of my own stress and fears. It can make you a little nauseous at first, and I experience some insomnia the first few weeks, but it goes away. SO worth it."

For Depression "I started taking Lexapro for major depressive disorder about 8 months ago. It started to work great and I got my energy back. I wasn't as depressed either, but that only lasted about 7 months. After a while my sex drive completely went away and it put a strain on my relationship. I also noticed I started to become more depressed as the time went on. I started to lose all the energy the medicine gave me. I tried to ween off of the medicine and it gave me terrible head aches and horrible nausea. I currently have been perscribed Effexor, hoping that will help with the sex drive."

For Anxiety "The reason for my review is in hope that I can convince someone out there who needs help with their anxiety to try this medication. It seriously has been changing my life. It's only been 2 months and I'm already feeling "normal". It took a little less than a month for me to really start feeling happier and less anxious. I used to be very negative because of my anxiety. I never wanted to socialize or do anything. I started a new job, which used to be one of my biggest anxiety triggers. But it has been going so well! I'm social and can talk to my coworkers and customers with confidence and my negative thoughts aren't really there anymore. I'll admit the side effects the first few weeks were horrible! Just stick it out, I promise it's worth it."

For Anxiety "I have been self medicating for years with tramadol. I suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. I was taking way to much tramadol to cope with life and was spending money I didn't have to buy it! It's a miracle that this drug works so great! I was at the point where all I did was sleep and dodge all things social! I'm only on day 3 and I already feel the pre depression me returning! Oh, I also take vistaril when the panic and anxiery really hits! I've only taken my 10 mg Lexapro and one 25 mg Vistiral this morning and I feel great! It doesn't give me the euphoric feeling that tram does but this is so much better! I almost feel normal! If I feel this great already I can only imagine how much better it'll get!"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I've been taking lexapro for depression and anxiety for the past 3 or so months. at first I saw a change in my mood and anxiety levels, and my anxiety overall is a bit better. I don't know whether i need to talk to the doctor about upping my dosage or about taking another medication on the whole. Anyone else have or had this problem with lexapro?"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have been on Lexapro for just about 3 years. I was first diagnosed with both depression and anxiety my sophomore year of high school, after I had missed weeks of school due to these conditions. After just the first week on Lexapro I felt better. Eventually, I had to have my dosage raised as I started to feel anxious/depressed again. I'm now a freshman in college, and couldn't be happier with what Lexapro has done for me. I'm actually studying to be a psychiatric nurse to help people like myself, with mental disorders."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have had anxiety since childhood. I never knew what it felt like to be without it until the first time I took Lexapro. It was amazing to feel "normal" for the first time. I had been on Zoloft and Prozac before and neither made me feel normal. I've had to quit Lexapro due to insurance at times and being without it is not something I ever want to do. I've tried Celexa and the generic forms as well but they come with sexual side effects. With Lexapro I have very little sexual effects. In fact, it seems to enhance orgasm for me. Initial side effects when starting it included very bad diarrhea for a week or two, but it goes away. I take 20mg which seems to be perfect. 10mg didn't do the trick. If you haven't tried it, give it a shot."

For Anxiety "23/F I was diagnosed with GAD a few months ago and started on generic lexapro, first 5mg/day then up to 10mg/day. It took a few weeks to take effect, but it was incredible at counteracting the anxiety. My self-confidence increased and panic attacks went away completely. The reason I give it a 6/10 and the reason I came off it, however, is because of the sexual side effects. It took away my ability to orgasm, which was extremely frustrating for me. I'm working with my doctor to find a different med to treat my anxiety without the sexual side effects of SSRIs."

For Depression "So I was initially prescribed Lexapro over this past summer. It was supposed to help out with my mood and overall sense of well being. After taking it for about two weeks in a row, my doctor told me to stop taking it and switch to Trintellix, since the Lex was causing an unbearable amount of drowsiness. I stopped going to work because on average, I'd get out of bed after 12 or so hours of sleep. Ridiculous, but I figured it would be worth powering through. It wasn't until my mood started getting worse, like I was running on 4 hours of sleep and didn't study for a final every day. Trintellix has so far been a godsend, no adverse side effects. Unable to refill the trin at the UC, I went back to lex, and after 2 days, the dread was too much..."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "My doctor prescribed me this medication for Generalized Anxiety Disorder as it was crippling and ruining my life. I was reluctant to try it because I've heard so many horror stories about the side effects but I figured I'd give it a shot. First week or so was a little rough. Lots of nausea and brain fog but I was determined to give it at least a month. Once my body adjusted my symptoms slowly started to disappear. Today I feel like a different person. I feel free from my obsessive worries and panic that had plagued me all my life. This truly is a wonder drug if you're lucky enough that it works for you!"
