Dexlansoprazole for GERD "I've had issues with GERD for a long time and have jumped between a few different medications. First, I started with over-the-counter medications like Prilosec and worked my way along to Nexium. When that failed me, Dexilant was prescribed. For GERD symptoms, Dexilant has kept things well controlled. I've been on it for almost 2 years now. However, during that time, I've experienced a significant increase in gas and abdominal discomfort. Although I've uncovered lactose intolerance and a mild sensitivity to gluten, I still exhibit symptoms, so I'm starting to suspect that Dexilant may be contributing. If it turns out that reducing my intake of Dexilant is the culprit, I may have to choose between well-controlled GERD or Irritable Bowel Syndrome-like symptoms."

Dexlansoprazole for GERD "Works great for the heartburn. Received a sample from the doctor and took it for 10 days, no problem till day 9/10. Started with terrible abdominal pain, gas, and diarrhea. Still have diarrhea about an hour after I eat and first thing in the morning. Stopped taking the medicine about 5 days ago. Will have to go back to the Protonix and deal with the breakthrough heartburn. The difference between Protonix and Dexilant is that Dexilant has a short-acting and long-acting medication in it to prevent breakthrough heartburn."

Dexlansoprazole for GERD "Took Dexilant delayed release 60 mg for 8 days and experienced diarrhea and stomach pain starting the third day. Hoped it would resolve after a few days but did not. Have continued to have abdominal pain and now constipation and strange-colored stool (white to clay) for more than a week after stopping the medicines. Back to omeprazole for me and then to my doctor if this doesn't stop soon. Dexilant did not work for me."

Dexlansoprazole for GERD "I was prescribed this for GERD caused by gastroparesis. After 1 week, I developed severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, gas, and vomiting. I also felt short of breath, anxious, and dizzy. I stopped this medicine and will never take it again. I would not recommend this medicine to anyone, ever. Wish I could give it a 0."

Dexlansoprazole for GERD "I started Dexilant 60 mg daily after 20 years and plateau on Protonix at 40 mg and tried Prevacid for a few months. I had an EDG and found to have Barrett's that’s non-dysplasia. At first, Dexilant was a miracle drug, wow, it really works. After 6 weeks of taking this, I developed such severe doubled-over abdominal pain with diarrhea, some vomiting, and severe leg cramps. I also had new severe dizziness and heart palpitations. I had to stop and go back to Prevacid. All of those side effects had resolved. I went back to Prevacid since this doesn’t cause those side effects. I decided after a few months to re-trial Dexilant, omg, I thought I had to go to the ER. I had such severe abdominal pain I could hardly stand up. It’s too bad that Dexilant truly helped my GERD but not at the cost of those side effects. Never again. I know it helps others, just not me."

Dexlansoprazole for GERD "I have had severe GERD for over 11 years and have taken prescription Prilosec, and it worked great. However, all of a sudden, it stopped working, and I was miserable and couldn't sleep, eat, or think about anything other than how much my stomach and esophagus hurt. The doctor prescribed Kapidex, and the GERD totally went away; however, terrible intestinal pain, gas, and watery loose stools began. I tried for 2 weeks in hopes the side effects would go away, but they didn't, so now I am back to Prilosec and pain, but at least I can leave the bathroom."

Dexlansoprazole for GERD "I started taking this 6 days ago and had to stop today because of how bad the side effects are. I have severe abdominal pain that has decommissioned me for the past 3 days — can’t even sleep because the pain is relentless. Because of the pain, which is also accompanied by tiredness and nausea, I haven’t been able to eat either. Just hoping these side effects dissipate very soon so I can function again. Would not recommend Dexilant."

For GERD "First, I was put on omeprazole for my acid reflux and continued taking it for 9 years. It did the job, but after a few years, I started experiencing health issues. My muscles ached, I had pain in my joints and back pain, and I also felt dull aches on either side of my chest. It stopped working for me, and I could no longer take it due to the issues I was having with it. The doctor ran many tests, such as heart tests, blood work, CT scan, and EKG, and all checked out okay. I then was put on dexlansoprazole for extreme acid build-up and acid reflux. At first, it worked like a charm, everything was great, then the side effects came: flank pain, and I felt as though I had a kidney stone or infection. Again, the tests the doctor did on me checked out okay. Quite honestly, I would highly not recommend either of these drugs to anyone, especially NOT for the long term! If you need help with your acid reflux, try a naturopathic specialist. What these drugs do to your system is SO not worth it. They can also cause anxiety and depression. Best of luck!"

Dexlansoprazole for GERD "My Dr. prescribed this after 80mg of Nexium stopped working, but after a week of Dexilant, I'm stopping it because of the awful flatulence and abdominal pain starting about 12 hrs after taking it. So glad to get validation here that others have had similar problems since the patient info says this only happens for a small amount of users."
