For Urinary Tract Infection "I took this medication for a simple UTI a year and a half ago and have been disabled ever since. Who would have thought an antibiotic could cause full body musculoskeletal damage and central nervous system damage for a lifetime after only taking it for 7 days? I was a 24-year-old geologist, avid hiker, and world traveler, and now I am a disabled 25-year-old who had to move back in with her parents because I need help with every task in my life. I lost all my muscle strength and muscle tone. All my collagen is gone. The medication made me lose 10 lbs in just 4 days, and I only weighed 102 to begin with. My hands are numb and weak. I constantly feel like I have a bad case of the flu now, and I am allergic to eggs and chicken due to the med."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Dr. prescribed cipro, so I took it twice a day for 3 days for a UTI - turns out I didn't have. On day 3, my children called an ambulance because I passed out and had trouble walking for several months afterwards. I've been to several specialists trying to find a solution to my cipro-induced weakness in my legs. I can't even think straight! This drug ruined me. I wish I never went to the Dr. that day. This has taken a heavy toll on my family and career. :("

For Salmonella Gastroenteritis "27-year-old female. I was prescribed this drug, ciprofloxacin, yesterday and took my first dose this morning. After one pill, I had muscle pain and weakness, pain and popping of my tendons in my feet, ankles, hands, and shoulders. Neuropathic symptoms, trouble walking, and panic started almost immediately. I am just hoping that this goes away. I’m so glad I only took one pill. I would not recommend this to ANYONE. I have never in my life had a bad reaction to any drug until Cipro. Currently afraid to get out of bed due to my popping tendons and the anxiety I have wondering if I’ll be able to walk normally again or if this is permanent. 0/10 Please, please, please take something else."

For Bacterial Infection "I took ciprofloxacin to treat a gut infection caused by Aeromonas that showed up on a stool test. I was first prescribed Bactrim, which caused intense tachycardia, dizziness, nausea, and dysphoria. Cipro did cause waves of dizziness and nausea, which meant I couldn't drive right after taking it. It would have been a problem if I had been working. But in the end, the side effects were mostly tolerable, knowing that the infection had to be dealt with. After I finished my 10-day course, I had some weakness and exercise intolerance. My doctor prescribed supplements to rebuild my mitochondria."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Never take ciprofloxacin, even 1 pill. After 2 pills, I had muscle weakness. I had difficulty putting my young son in the car. Now, I have a little pain in my arms and legs. I won't take more pills. The pharmacist told me to stop it right now. I hope everything will go back to normal in a couple of days."

For Urinary Tract Infection "PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS. If you have a UTI, there are safer antibiotics out there that you can take. I took this medicine twice and have had several months of side effects from it. The first day I took it, I was fine, no side effects. The second day I took it, while lying in bed, I felt a stinging pain in the back of my knee, where it folds. It shook me up quite a bit. I thought maybe something bit me. I found nothing. A few hours later, I felt it again at work. I put two and two together that I started a new medication and happened to look up the side effects. This medicine causes nerve damage! While at work, I felt it several more times. After work, while at home, my legs started to get very weak and achy, it was hard for me to walk. I went to the emergency room, and the doctor told me it was the Cipro and that a buddy of his had taken it, causing a ruptured tendon and muscle. A few months later, the continuous pain is gone, but my leg is now sensitive to cold air/water, causing aches/pain."

For Bladder Infection "I have had a lot of bladder infections years ago from pregnancies, but haven't had one in 4/5 years. A few days ago, I noticed the symptoms, went to the doc, and he prescribed me this. I've always been prescribed amoxicillin, and it's worked great. This time, he prescribed this because of my history. Took my 1st pill today, and within 30 mins, started to feel faint, weak, and an out-of-body experience. I was at home by myself with my 8-month-old baby, so I immediately got in the car, drove to the local hospital, which is conveniently only 5 mins away, and sat in the parking lot. I started to feel better, but still not 100%. Called a nurse I know who said I'll be fine, but get a different prescription. I'm going to try taking half for my 2nd dose or else I'll stop."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Diagnosed with a UTI. It was either in its very early stages, or my own immune system was doing a fair job combating the infection, since I didn't realize I had the UTI until a general wellness exam revealed its presence. My doc prescribed Cipro, 500 mg X2 daily for a week. I had never taken this type/class of antibiotics, and I had no known allergies of any kind. About a half-hour after swallowing the first pill, I felt hot, dizzy, nauseous, and within five minutes of those symptoms, I started violently vomiting...the kind of projectile launching that feels like it originates in your toes. About an hour later, shaking and weak, I contacted my doctor's office for a different Rx. I'll never again take Cipro-Floxa-anything."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I initially started taking Keflex for a UTI, then I was prescribed Cipro 500 twice a day for 7 days. Symptoms delivered after the first tablet: sore ear and throat. Very sore knee, followed by stomach cramp and weakness/joint pain/popping joints.... Read the warning signs before taking this. I feel so anxious and so sad that there are doctors out there who simply don’t care and will prescribe chemotherapeutic antibiotics to the average healthy person just for a UTI. I’ve read a lot of reviews saying lifelong issues now; I’m just praying that’s not true..."

For Urinary Tract Infection "While taking Cipro, I developed weakness and instability in my shoulders while surfing. The tendons in my elbows became stiff and sore as well. After a few months of surfing like this, I eventually developed shoulder impingement in the left shoulder, which immobilized that shoulder, and then mild impingement in the right shoulder. It's been 7 months now, and although the impingement has improved somewhat by ceasing, reducing, and adapting activity, the inflammation and tendonitis are still present, and I don't expect it to go away within the next few months. Hopefully, it does go away."

For Intraabdominal Infection "I have been in the hospital for four days on IV piperacillin for a ruptured appendix. Within one day of starting Cipro at home, I had substantial muscle weakness in my right arm and a bit of neuropathy in both arms. I also had tingling in my back and a little bit in my legs. I also had a new anxiety I didn’t even have in the hospital! After doing a little bit of reading and realizing that this can be a serious side effect from the Cipro, I decided to call the doctor right away. They have written me a new prescription for amoxicillin. I’m writing this to say don’t be afraid to get a different antibiotic if this one is causing you these kinds of side effects. Apparently, you should grin and bear it because the nerve and muscle damage doesn’t always go away."

For Salmonella Gastroenteritis "I am 19 years old and was diagnosed with food poisoning (no test was taken, though). So the doctor recommended this drug, and every time I use Cipro, I can't stop throwing up the whole yellow coloration of this drug. I have lost my appetite, and I'm generally weak. Wouldn't recommend this drug, its side effects are extremely bad."
