For Allergic Reactions "I used Piriton... or at least that’s what the pharmacist told me. (Pharmacies in my country usually repackage drugs in unlabelled packets and sell them as whatever drug is famous for what that particular medicine is for.) Anyway, my hay fever got really bad, and I took one pill. Knocked me out within minutes. I woke up after 6 hours with my sinuses clear and my head less cloudy. I’m not sure how many mg of chlorpheniramine is in one tablet though."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I love this allergy medicine! It works like a charm, and it rarely makes me sleepy, unlike Benadryl. Once in a while it's not effective, but this doesn't happen often. I agree with previous reviewers-it's sometimes hard to find on the shelf."

Chlorpheniramine for Allergic Reactions "I tried this after trying all others before I got a shot for allergies. I was fine sleeping on it, then took it again the next morning, and within an hour and 15 minutes, I had severe hot flashes, got shaky, wired, and tired/loopy, then nauseated. I just had a second hot flash, and the nausea is hanging on too. I will never take it again!"

For Allergic Rhinitis "I'm glad this works for so many... but for me... it gave me bad heart palpitations and overall malaise. I took this for both seasonal allergies and the potential to act as an antidepressant, which I could use. I took 4 mg an hour before bed, then another 4 mg when I woke up around 2-4 am. I did find it to cause drowsiness, which is not a bad thing."

For Cold Symptoms "This medication has been effective in stopping post-nasal drip and the cough it caused. Issues caused by colds or allergies were addressed by this medication better than any of the newer drugs. It is cost-effective but hard to find in some cases. I frequent small pharmacies and check the house brands at larger ones."

For Urticaria "I took these pills for an attack of hives and anxiety. I am female and aged 78. After three days, I began to feel nauseous. I was OK before I went on a long car journey. After half an hour with my husband driving, I began to feel extremely ill. He managed to stop the car as I was near fainting, and I vomited at the roadside. I felt as if I was losing consciousness for about 15 minutes and felt extremely sick, but could not vomit. I felt my BP was extremely low. Finally, I felt able to return to our home. The doctor who gave me the pills was one I was not known to. I was a visitor to the town. I have a history of tachycardia and arrhythmia and was diagnosed with M.E. 8 years ago. I told the doctor of my medical history."

For Allergic Reactions "I took only one tablet, then, after 2 hours, I started to feel dizzy, sleepy, numb face, my heartbeat started to go faster, difficulty in coordinating my hands, and uncontrollable shaking of my body, headache, muscle twitching, and muscle weakness! After 24 hours, I am still feeling dizzy and have a numb face sensation!"

For Allergic Rhinitis "The most effective medication (also the cheapest) for my allergies/rhinitis. I have tried virtually all of the alternative allergy medications and found them to be inferior for one reason or another. The alternatives (Claritin, Zyrtec, etc.) have all caused drowsiness for me, despite the manufacturers' claims to the contrary. I do not experience drowsiness with chlorpheniramine. The only downside is it seems to have become harder to find in pharmacies these days, having been largely replaced with newer (less effective!) alternatives. If unavailable, I would choose Telfast 180/Fexofenadine as an alternative, as it is the only other antihistamine that doesn't make me feel drowsy/impaired, however, I find it to be less effective compared to chlorpheniramine."
