"The generic of Librax is available, but only one manufacturer is making it, so it’s hard to find and expensive. My insurance won’t pay for it now, even though I’ve been taking it for years, and two years ago they paid for it. It’s ridiculous the FDA took the brand Librax off the market! It’s the only thing that works for my IBS diarrhea, no other med compares. I paid $240 for a 90-day supply using a discount card. Please don’t get rid of this drug!!"

"This has definitely helped my irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, which are horrible gas pain and foul-smelling flatulence. It is not perfect, and I did go off it to try Linzess, but that did not work at all, so I went back to Librax. I have started adding Miralax and Citrucel because I think this IBS may be constipation-related. I take 2-3 per day."

"I have Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome. I have been through a lot getting all this under control. I have been on Librax for about a week, and the pain after eating has almost gone away completely. Although I'm very tired and kind of out of it, but I am hoping those side effects go away very soon."

"I've dealt with IBS for over a decade. I have tried diet changes, fiber, and pretty much every other IBS medication available. This is the only drug that gives me my life back. It stops the painful spasms and diarrhea. Unfortunately, even though this is an older, generic medication, someone bought the rights to it and the price has been climbing for years. My insurance quit covering it, and a month's supply can easily exceed several hundred dollars. Lately, I've had trouble finding Librax, with pharmacies telling me there is only one manufacturer and they are not currently making it. I seriously hope they don't permanently stop making this drug. It is a lifesaver."

"I too had not eaten in almost a year. Bentyl was painful, and other medicines made me ill. Librax saved my life. I lost 50 lbs, and I was not heavy. My problem now is extreme stress keeps me on this medicine. When I can find work or sell the house, when I am not about to lose everything, I hope to get off Librax and Ativan."

"Recently started treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The doctor is indeed highly experienced. On medication thrice daily since 2 weeks now. Only issue is drowsiness, don't feel like getting up from bed, even feel like sleeping during daytime. Only physical activity can keep me awake, but still, drowsiness lingers on."

"I had irritable bowel syndrome for about 7 or 8 years. Then I got pregnant back in 2007 and haven't had it since. In March of 2008, I had to have my gallbladder removed. About a month after that, I couldn't eat without getting sick. Sometimes it was so bad. I went to my doctor and he wanted me on the Librax (generic), and it's been a lifesaver. Even when I had IBS, I couldn't eat the way I can now."

"I have had irritable bowel syndrome since childhood. Bad thing was all doctors thought my symptoms were amebiasis, but from an internet search, I met a doctor. I have to praise him as he prescribed me this medicine, one daily before bed. My problem was solved for 10 days, which I've been suffering from for 15 years."

"Sell your soul. This is the hands-down best medicine for IBS; it is perfect for the first few months. As soon as the tolerance to the Librium catches up to you, then you get the bill, Google Librax withdrawal. Withdrawing from a benzodiazepine is pure hell (I am in it). If you must do it, go for two weeks to get relief and then stop."

"Recently diagnosed with IBS (D) after months of pain and significant weight loss, 30+ lbs. Hyoscamine didn't help much, Librax does, but the side effects for me are awful. After 2-3 days on it, I develop severe headaches which do not abate no matter what pain relief I use. If I continue to take it, it then triggers days and days of crippling migraines. So at the moment, I take it on and off to keep the side effects down."

"I have been taking generic Librax for about 9 years. It works up to a point, but is certainly not a cure for IBS. After eliminating nearly everything from my diet and taking Librax 4 times per day, I still have episodes where I cannot stop going to the bathroom. I have to turn to lamotil to stop the urge, even with the Librax. As someone mentioned, it has benzodiazepines in it, which take some time to get used to, but after a couple of months, you will only notice that your sense of balance is somewhat compromised. You should never stop taking Librax cold turkey. The withdrawal of the sedative is absolutely horrible. I tried to stop cold turkey once, and it was a terrible mistake. The drug is fairly effective at reducing the D."

"I have had IBS for 29 years. Started after the birth of my first child. I have been prescribed Librax for the past 15 years. It is definitely a lifesaver. I only take it when needed, and it works within 30 minutes. I will say I have been in public countless times and had a traumatic “blowout!” Probably should take it daily. As far as cost, my insurance covered it in the past, but today I start Medicare... One prescription lasts me a long time, thank goodness!"

"I use Librax as per the advice of my doctor treating my IBS, which is characterized by severe occasional cramps and huge loose motions/diarrhea. But I also have confusion as regards which is more effective, rifaximin or Librax? Though the two are different types, rifaximin is an antibiotic."

"I have been using Librax for my IBS for more than 20 years. I have recently been told it is no longer going to be covered by my insurance and they moved the drug to a different class. My doctor is looking for a substitute, but I'm not crazy about the new medication that has a lot of side effects. I don't understand how this happened."

"Librax is one of the only two medications that have ever worked for alleviating symptoms of my IBS mixed. The other is Lomotil. Due to opioid problems that some nitwits have, I was taken off Librax and first put on Levbid, which does nothing at all to help, and then Bentyl, which isn't much better than Levbid. I want to be put back on Librax and Lomotil, which work because I'm pretty dang miserable without them."

"Librax is a very powerful drug. Great deal of care should be practiced while taking it. I was on it for over a year. Now the doctor is tapering me off to put me on Bentyl. He told me that there were no withdrawal side effects. What a crock. I am experiencing brain zaps, loss of energy and appetite, stomach upset, and constipation. Hoping this goes away soon. All drugs have side effects regardless of what the doctor says. Be very careful if you take this drug."

"I had a problem with esophageal spasms in the 90s. There was a feeling that food was getting stuck in my throat, and I lost 50 lbs! Librax cured this condition, and as a upshot effect, loose bowel issues are minimized compared to previous experience."

"I was suffering from IBS for almost 8 years and didn't know what it was. I lost the quality of my life for years, having stomach pain, cramps, bloating, constipation followed by non-continuous diarrhea. I was desperate and hopeless when one doctor prescribed me this medicine, it really changed my life. I felt like I had never had any stomach problems. This medicine is amazing. I can't find it now from where I live, which is Cambodia, but I want to give a try to one of these other medicines on the list. Hope they'll work like Librax worked for me. Thanks."

"I have diarrhea once a week and cramps. I have nausea, pain in my left abdomen while walking, lost 20 lbs. weight. Different doctors diagnosed me with dysmotility, I was on Mesacol 800 for a year. Then I went to a new doctor, he told me I don't have to take Mesacol and gave me Librax to take at bedtime. I took it and got cramps and diarrhea in the morning for days. Then I stopped taking it. I am confused."

"I have been taking Librax for over 40 years. Most of the time, one at night. Foods make me sick to my stomach. I've noticed no side effects with Librax except do not drink alcohol! I did once. Never again. I had 2 beers and felt like I drank 8 and passed out. Librax does the job. No complaints. Anyway, Librax has gotten so expensive. I called CVS and it is now up to $1,500 for 60 pills! My health insurance will not pay for it. I have taken Donnatol, which helped, but I prefer Librax or the generic version. Actually, I cannot find Librax at any pharmacy near me for many years, just the generic. I am a senior citizen and cannot pay $1,500. I do not understand why it is so expensive."

"I will say I am so grateful to be able to get this medicine (Librax). It is the only thing that helps with the abdominal cramping and pain I have in my upper right side. The side effects are minimal. I only take it when needed."

"According to my physician, he prescribed me Librax 2 times a day for 10 days, which helped a lot for my IBS. But after some days, I had an appointment with my psychiatrist for severe anxiety, to which my psychiatrist prescribed Normaxin for 3 times a day for 10 days and several other anxiety-related tablets. But after the visit to the psychiatrist, I did go to the toilet for 3 continuous days, and on the fourth day (today), I did my work without any issues."

"This is the ONLY medication that helps for my irritable bowels. I also have acid reflux and anxiety. It is now NOT a controlled substance as it shouldn’t be. I take it before every meal. Bentyl and hyoscamine were way too painful. Librax is gentle to my sensitive system. Yes, I changed my diet and lifestyle too. Ask your doctor, the Valium in it slows the smooth muscle in the colon. Does not get me “high.” Some doctors need to learn more pharmacology. However, you will need prior authorizations because it is not cheap. I fought to get it covered and you should too. I also do not drink alcohol on this medication. So if you cannot stop drinking, this is not for you."
