Keflex (cephalexin) "I was taking Bactrim for 2 days with no improvement before being prescribed Keflex QID for 7 days to take with Bactrim for an infected cut on my wrist from punching glass. As soon as I began Keflex, I started noticing improvement. It's hard to say whether the improvement or my side effects were from Keflex or Bactrim, so take this with a grain of salt. I had tachycardia, chills, nausea, indigestion, gas pain that felt like chest pain, itching on arms/legs, petechiae on my upper arms, frequent urination, and eventual yeast infection for which I had to take diflucan. I had some symptoms together, and some separate. Most of my side effects came at night though, so it could've been some kind of reaction between the two? The side effects definitely hit me harder in the beginning, but by my 5th day of Keflex, almost all side effects had subsided. I suggest taking with probiotics that can survive stomach acid and easily digestible food and drink a lot of water."

"Prescribed 500 mg 4 times a day for an infected tick bite. From day one, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, major headaches and altered moods. I am on day 5 now, side effects are not any better and I am feeling depressed. The tick bite site looks like it is healing. I would not take this given another option."

"Look, as far as my skin goes, the keflex is great- no new rashes or lumps, healed swiftly, I feel human again. But three days in I start having the worst most dark dreams! And these dreams don't stop! So 10/10 if you want vivid dreams, just make sure you can handle yourself because they are not Good Dreams ok?"

"I was prescribed Keflex (500mg) every 6 hours (4x) a day, for (7) days. I have only taken antibiotics once in my life when I was in high school. I am 28 now just to give you some perspective. I had a cosmetic procedure and my surgeon prescribed Keflex. The first day I was still coming off anesthesia so I didn’t feel much. But, the next day I felt horrible. I was so delirious, dizzy, confused. That was just the start! As the days went on I experienced blurred vision, sadness, extreme fatigue and then insomnia. One night I slept for only one hour. I have suffered some acute memory issues and brain fog. I have to say that this experience has left me very afraid of antibiotics and I only kept taking it because I had to in order to avoid possible infection. I will never willing take Keflex or any other antibiotic. But, I did not get an infection so I guess it did its job."

"Real frozen shoulder, which comes out of nowhere and lasts six months, was followed by frozen leg muscles and then frozen hips. When my chest throat and lung muscles became hugely painful I realised the infection was back. I ordered supplies for a long period of being housebound again. I was prescribed cefalexin/keto, actually for a UTI, so I had some. 500 three times a day.The pain stopped in two days. My system feels light, as though the whole latent infection had been cleaned out. A side effect was that the corn on the sole of my foot has disappeared after decades! I might have had a slight headache, that was all. In my case this medicine has been a miracle! I am 79 and in the UK. I was prescribed it on the NHS."

"I take this at a dose of 500mg every 6 hours for 7 days for an abscess on my scalp which had been very painful. I noticed it start working within 12 hours of first dose because the Pain began subsiding. I seem to handle this antibiotic very well. I’m so thankful for it. The abscess was so painful it was making it even hard to sleep"

"I was prescribed this for an ingrown toenail that became infected. Gave so many stars because it is definitely working. Never did I think something so tiny could hurt so bad! After 2 days the infection looked and felt much better. But, I’m going to ask for something else. I’m on day 4 of these now and 3 of those days I’ve been getting a crazy headache. I’m pre disposed to migraines, but I don’t get them every day back to back so it definitely is from the medication. I’m also not sure if it’s another side affect but I woke up around 5 am because of HORRIBLE jaw pain. I do have TMD for the last 9 years of my life, but I never had this happen. I took some ibuprofen, but wish I had took a Vicodin I had leftover from a recent surgery instead because of how bad it was. Icing for a good while took the edge off enough for me to go back to sleep, but it was rough. Still pretty sore when I woke up but not as bad as before."

"The vet gave this antibiotic to my mastiff when she suddenly had welts raise up all over. He thought she have been stung or had some other type of introduced infection. So far so good, but it seem to give her a bit of urinary incontinence. She has had that before whenever she takes any antibiotic. She is taking other medicine too, so it is hard to say which one is helping or causing the side effect."

"Little basal cell cancer removed. I always have some back, foot, hip pain but now everything is so painful at same time, horrible diarrhea, feel fatigued, almost like flu. I'm 68 with joint issues. It's bad to stop but I can't do it. Worried about c-diff. I took it before no problem but I can't function this time. Probably age and other conditions"

"I read these reviews before I started taking Cephalexin and was scared of all the side effects. After 7 days of taking it, I have experienced no side effects but I have made an effort to take the pills with food. On the downside, the antibiotic has had no effect on my folliculitis so far."

"No side effects except a little sleepiness, and a yeast infection a week after (this can be helped if you take acidophilus during treatment, but I forgot). Cephalexin cured my infection. God bless antibiotics!"

"So I took Cephalexin to get rid of an infected cyst. It did the job for the most part, but it may have been less effective since I had already taken it before. I’m didn't have the side effects other people had: I didn’t have ANY nausea, stomach pain, drowsiness, anything with this medicine and I usually took it without food too. It didn’t really help the second time (after I got my cyst removed and stitches in) but that’s my fault, I was prescribed doxycycline and I took cephalexin AGAIN instead. Overall a good experience!"

"I've been taking cephalexin for a few days now and while my boil has reduced and no longer hurts, the side effects I'm experiencing are not worth it. If I had been informed of the side effects before it was prescribed, I would have refused it and asked for something different."

"The doctor prescribed Keflex for me, 500mg, four times a day for ten days. It seriously worked wonders. Now I am back on this medication again for the same thing 8 months later, my doctor has no idea what causes it and apparently neither does Google. Anyways, I feel I can rest easy knowing I am on this product again and that it will be cleared up within the 10 days"

"I was given this for an infected hangnail on my finger. 500mg 2x a day for 7 days. Within hours after the first dose, I saw improvement. My finger was less red, less swollen, and less painful. Side effects tummy upset (bloating, gassiness), softer stools, and I felt a little jittery, like you've just drank 3 cups of coffee, only I don't drink caffeine. But I have a very sensitive tummy (IBS) and they only lasted for a couple hours after each dose and were mild."
