For Migraine Prevention "I was prescribed Candesartan 8 mg for migraine prevention. I tried for a little over one month, but unfortunately, in my case, it didn't help. The attacks remained just as frequent (>15 a month). Maybe the intensity of the attacks was a little reduced, but not considerably. I could not go on a higher dose because my blood pressure tends to be low at times. For this reason, I was often feeling weak and dizzy when standing up. Other than this, I had no side effects."

For High Blood Pressure "Trialing this drug due to side effects from similar antihypertensives. Initially, polyuria continued, as well as very low BP, extreme fatigue, breathlessness on minor exertion, with some mild chest pain and nausea. The dose was halved, and blood pressure increased to normal and polyuria stopped, but the rest of the symptoms continue. Trying to get in to see a doctor. Yesterday, an ambulance was sent for fear I was having a heart attack. I suspect they are drug side effects."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on it for nearly 20 years now, taking 16 mg per day. I've never really noticed any side effects at all! I came off it for a while, but my blood pressure again hit the heights, so I went back on it (I'm summarizing this), and it dropped again. It just seems to work."

For High Blood Pressure "I have only taken this drug at 8 mg for a week, but already have stuffy, burning nasal congestion issues. Also, post-nasal mucus causing a constant cough, especially at night. Heart rate is 15 points higher with a jittery feeling all day. Loopy, lightheaded, and exhaustion, which includes difficulty walking from seemingly weak legs. Was hopeful, as other ARBs give me migraines with auras. Will have to scratch this off my list too. Bad medication for me. Wish others would mention what alternative BP med is working for them."

For High Blood Pressure "I am male, 5'10", 125 lbs. Concussed. I've now been taking candesartan for 4 weeks. I called a teledoctor. Told them my blood pressure tests that I take throughout the day. During 8 mg peak effectiveness, I still have 125/85, BPM 95. I Dr. increased the dose to 2X daily. It was wearing off, and I would spend all night with a terrible headache. I was offered BPM reducers, but I said that doubling the dose of candesartan. 'Let's wait and see.' I already take other drugs that reduce respiration and heart rate (diazepam). Sometimes it feels as if I am my own Dr. making medical decisions. One at a time! I won't know what is helping if I start more than one at once. Not to mention other dangerous interactions. This medication works very well for BP reduction. Carefully find the right dose."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on 4 mg for 2 weeks and have had severe headaches, nose bleeds, upper back ache, anxiety, jaw pain, and bloated stomach. I noticed a bit of swelling in my feet. After being off one day, no more symptoms. I've been put back on the Sandoz brand."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking candesartan 8 mg for about one month. Apart from a bit of back pain, my blood pressure has come down really well. I am sleeping better than I have in years. I take them at night as they help me to sleep. I also have more energy than I have in years during the day and feel great. They are amazing. I know not everybody has the same experience. For me, it works extremely well and makes me feel so much better."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on Candesartan for 4 years. I am 70 y.o. female. Started on 16mg, then 32 mg, controlled and lowered BP. Retired and after a few months went back down to 16mg, 6 mos later 8mg. Cardiologist approved as long as my BP was still good. Since then I have been taking 4mg, still with awesome BP's. Important: while on for 2 yrs and feeling good, when I picked up prescription I discovered that my fatigue was extreme. BP still good but could barely get off couch. Noted that my drugstore had changed vendors, new contract. Wow! I kept a bottle of when I was feeling good, former manufacturer and found pharmacy who used that and felt better immediately. If you experience sudden changes make sure your manufacturer has not changed. Who knows what inactive ingredients made me completely exhausted. I am taking 4mg presently and went back to morning dose from night. Only side effect is dry mouth and if I take it in the morning at least I am drinking most of the day and don't notice dry mouth."

For High Blood Pressure "Was put on this drug at 8 mg and later, the doctor increased it to 16 mg. I developed tinnitus after the increase to 16 mg. I can't sleep, I reduced to 8 mg, the tinnitus is less severe but still there. Going to my doctor to discuss other meds."

For Heart Failure "I had terrible reactions to previous blood pressure meds. I was on them for approx 4 months. I was in the hospital with chest pains, constantly dizzy, and felt like my heart was going to fail. Had a nuclear stress test, everything was fine. My doc put me on Candesartan 16 mg, now, 4 months later, exactly the same side effects but worse. Felt like my heart is giving up, muscle pain, dizziness, and weakness. Every time I go to the doc, they want to put me on a stronger dosage, they just don't listen to me."

For High Blood Pressure "I feel that this medication caused excessive sleepiness. I found myself sleeping for 12 to 14 hours, and even then struggling to get out of bed. I discontinued it, and my sleep returned to normal. I would suggest starting very cautiously, at a low dose. If you get the right dose, the side effect of extra sleep could even be of benefit to those sleeping too little. But in my case, even a low dose made me too sleepy. I don’t know what it could have done for my blood pressure because I didn’t take it long enough to see any effects."

For High Blood Pressure "High blood pressure and migraine preventative. I was diagnosed with hypertension and was given 2 mg per day of candesartan, which was fine for me and lowered my blood pressure. I started getting worsening migraines (have had these for 20+ years), so it was decided that candesartan would increase to 8 mg per day - absolute disaster, intense blurred vision within 24 hours, unable to work, drive, etc. - have stopped and am waiting for this to resolve. Horrible experience."

For Migraine Prevention "I've had aura migraines since I was 10 (I’m now 25), and they have gotten increasingly worse. So much so, I developed anxiety when I was 18 at the fear of getting them, affecting my everyday life. I was prescribed 20 mg Amitriptyline at 21, which I was on for 4 years. I found it helped with the anxiety but didn’t stop the attacks I was getting. Last summer, my migraines spiked from 1 or 2 every other month to 5 in 3 weeks, and I was prescribed 8 mg Candesartan, as I was confused as to why I was even taking a drug if it weren’t helping the core issue. From then until a month ago, my migraines have actually increased! Recently, I’ve had one every week for the past 3 months. I’ve now been jumped to 32 mg, and I’m nervous about the results! Fingers crossed it’ll reduce, otherwise, it’s back to the brain fog of Amitriptyline!"

For High Blood Pressure "Just started this, and blood pressure was normal to start. It is being used to protect kidneys from spikes in BP. So, blood pressure was fine before taking, then had a spike, then blood pressure was lower than before. Then felt sort of pressure in the chest, sort of a sinking feeling in the chest. Then BP spikes again, and now ear ringing. It could be the spike after the chest feeling came from anxiety, but now BP is higher than wanted. It may be the extra ingredients in the drug or the drug itself. I am allergic to preservatives."

For Migraine Prevention "I'm a 41-year-old male who had suffered with 20 years of horrific migraines with increasing use of triptans up to 12/month. After 6 months of 12 mg, I have only taken 3 triptans as I have been practically migraine-free. This drug totally changed my life, I wish I had found it years ago. Had 2 or 3 days of lightheadedness when starting out, but this went away. I've also had a mild upper respiratory tract cough, which I'm suspicious is a side effect, even though studies show that it shouldn't be. Also reduced my blood pressure from 135/90 to 120/78."

For High Blood Pressure ""May take up to 6 weeks for full effect." I was assaulted, hit in the head. I lost consciousness for about 5 seconds. I also have an undiagnosed "thing" (it's not a blood clot, unlikely to be a tumor according to the CT specialist). I am waiting for an MRI. I am male, weigh 125 lbs, about 5'10. I was 161/122 BPM 76. I took 8 mg about 16 hours ago. 123/88 BPM 80. I felt like I put my head through the wall. Obviously, I don't feel perfect. But my headache has gone from 7 to 3, ten being pain so bad you lose consciousness. I do have "post-concussion syndrome". This drug is reducing my blood pressure with certainty. It does make me tired. I am a little dizzy. My nose is running into my throat a bit more. Don't ignore your body. I was throwing up for 3 months. This drug lowers blood pressure, and I am perhaps mildly more dizzy. We'll see in the future what is wrong. I still have a headache, but my BP is good again."

For Heart Failure "Started on Candesartan 2 mg for reduced ejection fraction in the hopes that Entresto would be the next step. Day 1 - headache, lightheadedness. Day 3 - backache, abdominal cramps. Days 4-10 - dreadful volatile black tarry stools, fecal incontinence, runny nose, ears, cough, and tiredness. I persevered for 10 days, as everything I’d read said symptoms would subside, but they got worse. I’m confined to the house, can’t leave the toilet, so abandoned the drug."

For Migraine Prevention "Initially 4 mg seemed effective at preventing migraines, but within about 6 months, the effects seemed to wear off. I went up to 8 mg, and the same pattern repeated, but overall I think I have slightly fewer migraines than before I started taking it. Compared to other preventatives I’ve tried, the side effects are mild."

For High Blood Pressure "I use 8 mg for over 1 year now. Will say okay. But I was on ramipril 10 mg before with amlodipine 5 mg and was perfect. But after swollen ankles, the GP told me to take amlodipine every 2 days. It worked! But because my HBP went down, the GP decided to stop both and replaced them with candesartan 8 mg. No change in my HBP, it was just at the borderline. It was better with ramipril every day and amlodipine every 2 days."

For Migraine Prevention "I am a migraineur from my 7th. The triptans were a game changer for me. They still always work. I still have a lot of headaches that would have resulted in migraines if it weren't for the triptans. I know I can manage fairly well with paracetamol and codeine, and when it gets worse, I take triptan about once or twice a week. I was advised to try Candesartan. I used 4 mg (tried 8 mg too) for one year. I am keeping a statistically graphed diary in Excel so I could fairly well monitor the efficacy of Candesartan. It worked for what I call 'being migraneous' (nagging not coming through headache). So, quality of life went up a bit but not enough to keep taking it. When taking it before exercise, I became very dizzy because of low blood pressure, so I took it before sleeping."

For High Blood Pressure "My doctor prescribed 8 mg candesartan, lowering my blood pressure from 160/80 to 140/80. Blood test came back and no deterioration in my kidney function. The doctor wanted me to increase the dosage to 16 mg. I resisted and said I’d take an additional 4 mg tablet daily. Three weeks later, my blood pressure is down to 129/80, but my kidney function has declined and I was fainting. Saw another doctor who told me to take only 8 mg dosage and will reassess in a month’s time."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been taking 16 mg of Candesartan for the past 2 years, and now I only experience a migraine approximately every 3 months. Candesartan and Apo brand names are most effective for me. I have found that other brands of Candesartan do not work as well, and pharmacists suggest that those brands may contain fillers that do not agree with me and cause mild episodic headaches."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on this medication a few years ago and had to stop it on 8 mg. The doctor put me on so many different meds that all gave me side effects. This time I have been on 8 mg for 6 weeks, flu-like symptoms. Like a dull ache in my legs and back all the time, bad headaches. Depression and anxiety cut down to 4 mg and feel my body back to normal, even my pulse rate tinnitus is quieter."

For High Blood Pressure "Candesartan lowered my high BP immediately and heart rate back to normal. 10/10 for this point. Negative effects were, I urinate hourly like a horse and I haven't had a hard-on since starting tablets. Slight headaches at times. Neg effects 0/10. Overall 5/10."
