For Migraine Prevention "I was prescribed this drug for migraine prevention, starting at 4 mg and increasing the dosage by 4 mg until I got to 16 mg, if the migraines had not improved. They didn't, and the side effects I experienced were extremely loud tinnitus at 8 mg and above, hair loss, acid reflux resulting in the need to take omeprazole to counteract this, insomnia, hot sweats, nausea, and weight gain of 22 lb due to the fact that I felt so ill, I was unable to do regular exercise. Not a nice drug and did not reduce the severity of my migraine."

For High Blood Pressure "Have been on 16 mg of candesartan for one week, now gone down to 8 mg, and considering stopping. My blood pressure was always borderline, but I was put on this drug anyway. I have floaters in my eyes if my potassium goes too high or I don't drink enough. I have muscle aches and clicking joints when I move them. I feel tired and lethargic most of the day, I have also gained anxiety, which I've never had before. Not a great medication for me."

For High Blood Pressure "I'm a multi-stroke survivor who has silent migraines with auras; malignant hypertension (MHP) and Crohn's. Have tried many BP medications, but the adverse effects I couldn't tolerate, especially the dizziness (already a fall risk after the strokes). A doctor seeing that I'm sensitive to medications and hypokalemic put me on Candesartan as it's a potassium-sparing medication; has a strong BP lowering effect; and fewer side effects than ACE inhibitors. No adverse effects. One of the few medications that is like a sugar pill to me to take. It's not enough to control my MHP itself even at 32 mg, but combined with another and a water pill it can get my 230/120 BP down to 120/80s. I still have silent migraines with auras with Candesartan, but it, and elimination of caffeine, reduces the auras to about once a month. Overall, very pleased with the medication."

For High Blood Pressure "Replying to Paul7, I was on 4 mg candesartan for 2 years, and I could not sleep at night due to the side effect of nasal congestion plus urinary tract infection. I have switched recently to indapamide 1.5 mg SR diuretic, which seems to work well along with my amlodipine 5 mg. Statins also gave me sinus/nasal problems, so I have reduced the dosage and now fine. Hope this helps."

For High Blood Pressure "I started off on the lowest dose of candesartan for high blood pressure, then I was increased to the current 32 mg over 12 months. Luckily, I had no side effects, but no effect on BP at all! I started off at 160+/90+ hr 70+/- and I am still at that now. I'm 56 years old, not overweight, eat healthily, now on clopidogrel as well and a low dose of omeprazole (16 years), feel like I'm starting to rattle!!"

For High Blood Pressure "At my request, following online research, I asked my GP to change me from Losartan to Candesartan, as I was not getting satisfactory BP control. In less than a week, my BP has gone from 160/89 down to 135/80 on 12 mg. I feel fantastic and have no obvious side effects. I wish I'd made the change sooner."

For Migraine Prevention "I'm in the UK and was prescribed candesartan for migraine prophylaxis and mild hypertension ~10 months ago, and it's been a complete success. I was instructed to titrate the dose from 8 mg up to 32 mg, but stopped at 16 mg as 32 mg was making me drowsy. Migraines have reduced from >1 per week to 1 every 2-3 months, which is a huge benefit."

For High Blood Pressure "This pill works well but has bad side effects. Pain in the back of the neck, back, feet, legs, arms, and even fingers. Stomach issues. Anxiety every evening. Palpitations, such as a thumping heartbeat. Dizziness. Tight throat and trouble breathing. Headaches. Ear pain and head congestion. Trouble sleeping. Tinnitus. Itching. All this on just 8mg. Does lower blood pressure from 160/80 to 130/72. Blood pressure rises in the evening for some reason. I am a female aged 73."

For High Blood Pressure "Diagnosed with high BP (160/100) a few months ago. Tried Ramipril, then Felodipine, but neither brought BP down, and I had heart palpitation side effects. Tried Candesartan, and it reduced BP slightly with minimal side effects. Went from 8 mg to 16 mg to 20 mg with slight reductions of BP to around 140/90. Doctor suggested further increases, but after research, I persuaded him to combine drugs and have 2.5 mg amlodipine too. This is what had worked for my dad. I had to push for it, but mixing them has worked a treat. Not many side effects, and now BP down to 120/80. If you are struggling to find a med that works, keep going, and once you find something that isn't giving you bad side effects, I recommend trying two meds. For me, it worked a treat at reducing BP more effectively."

For Migraine Prevention "I had a horrible experience on candesartan. I tapered up from 4 mg to 16 mg over a period of 6 weeks. Before 16 mg, there was no effect on my migraines, which I usually get around 6 times/month. The day I started taking 16 mg, however, the candesartan triggered daily migraines, which had never happened to me before in the 15 years since I started getting migraines (I'm now 44). It took me 4 days to realize the candesartan was triggering the migraines, at which point I stopped cold turkey. The daily migraines then continued for 6 more days until I started taking Amitriptyline 10 mg. As well as daily migraines, I also experienced severe anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and loss of appetite once I stopped the candesartan."

For High Blood Pressure "Started at 4 mg, then increased to 8 mg for high blood pressure; it is not controlling my BP in the least, seems to be like water. However, I have to blow my nose a lot, have palpitations, sore swollen legs, great fatigue, and huge anxiety. I am stopping this useless medication."

For High Blood Pressure "Took two Candesartan 8 mg. 12 hours after the second dose, I started to feel something in my throat. The beginning of an allergic reaction. I had quite severe throat swelling. It only lasted 12 hours. Be careful when you start using this drug."

For Migraine Prevention "Starting this medication just over a year ago has been a complete game-changer for me. Have suffered for 40 years and had escalated to 15+ migraines per month. My neurologist started me on this after exhausting many options and what she considered was the overuse of a triptan, which was the only thing that kept me functioning but potentially also caused rebound. After titrating up to 16 mg, my migraines have reduced to 2-3 per month. To have more pain-free days than not is just amazing, and I feel as though I have my life back. I feel slightly light-headed at times, but that’s all and doesn’t last long. Wish I had been given this years ago as this has for sure been life-changing. I’m in the UK and blessed that I receive this medication free on our NHS."

For High Blood Pressure "I was put on Candesartan from the start of this year. After that, I started having constant symptoms of respiratory infections, like the symptoms when you are developing a cold or flu. Turns out it's one of the possible side effects of this drug. Other symptoms have been brain fog. Going to switch back to amlodipine, which I was taking before this."

For Migraine Prevention "I’ve been taking Candesartan for about 6 months now. I have tried many other migraine preventatives over the years, but nothing has lasted. This medication has decreased my daily migraines to just a few a month. It hasn’t had any impact on my menstrual migraines, though. I started on 4 mg and am now on 8 mg. The only side effects I can complain about are dizziness if I stand up too fast or overexert myself. I have also found it increases the effects of any painkillers I take, so I try to take any pain meds a few hours before taking the Candesartan, which seems to help. I finally have my life back!"

For Migraine Prevention "My neurologist recommended candesartan for my migraines. I was already on Nortriptyline and getting good results. The idea was that I could stop my high blood pressure medication and use a single drug to manage both. Candesartan has worked extremely well. It has reduced my migraines from 1-2 per week to 1-2 per month. I found it works better than Nortriptyline for me. Plus, it also helps to control my high blood pressure. The only problem I have is rebound headaches if I miss more than 1 dose. It takes only 2 days before I'm hit with severe migraines if I stop."

For Migraine Prevention "Taking candesartan to prevent 3-4 migraines/week, possibly exaggerated by spinal issues in the neck. Tapered to a 16 mg dose in 4 weeks' time. Tapering felt like taking a sugar pill. At 16 mg, I did experience some dizziness, especially with hot weather or hot meals. Now I've settled in at 2 months, and my energy and libido are really low. It does seem to stop some of my migraine attacks, but these low energy states with mild headache persist almost every day. Especially in the morning, I can hardly stay awake and feel like fainting. I don't think this is the right medicine for me."

For Migraine Prevention "I took Candesartan to prevent chronic migraines. Instead, it started triggering them on a daily basis. Once I realized the medication was the culprit, I stopped taking it. My neuro prescribed me 10 mg amitriptyline, which stopped the daily migraines, but like another reviewer wrote, it took approximately two weeks for me to stop experiencing severe anxiety and panic caused by Candesartan. It was a horrible drug for me."

For High Blood Pressure "Been on this drug now for 6 weeks, also amlodipine 5 mg, 8 mg candesartan. Only side effect is swollen ankles, not sure which one is causing this. Don't like being on them, don't like taking them, but BP has come down. Maybe Doc will reduce them soon, I hope so. I was told by another GP that statin side effects are worse than the problem."

For High Blood Pressure "I have high blood pressure (BP), about 140/100, and after several studies, the doctor prescribed me Xiletil (Candesartan Cilexetil). After 1 week, my BP dropped to 130/80, and 1 month after to 120/80. I truly recommend this product. So far, it hasn't caused any side effects on me."

For High Blood Pressure "I can fully agree with many of the views, been on different levels of Candesartan sorted with 4 mg, no improvement in blood pressure. It wandered around from highs of 180/100 to lows of 111/68. Increased to 8 mg, had pains in my neck and back, along with low heart rate, nasal congestion. And also picked up tiredness and some depression. All in all, a disaster. Great if it works for you. I'm back at the doctors to discuss further."

For Migraine Prevention "I started Candesartan 2 weeks ago for migraine prevention. It had helped but has caused severe bruising and leg pain, possibly blood clots. I am stopping the 8 mg candesartan immediately under medical advice. Withdrawal symptoms are awful. Almost as bad as migraine."

For Migraine Prevention "I have taken Candesartan 4 mg for 2 months for migraine prevention, and I’m also a diabetic type 2. It really worked well for me. My migraine went away for good. But my blood sugar went up from 5 in the morning to 8-9. I read about it, and there is a component in Candesartan that increased blood sugar."

For Migraine Prevention "Day 4 of using it for migraine prevention on 2 mg, and already side effects of feeling dizzy, unwell, fullness in my ears, and stuffed nose. The light-headedness is affecting me most at work and at such a low dose."
