For Migraine Prevention "Started candesartan in November after being diagnosed with chronic migraine to the point where I had one every day and I felt hopeless. Was given Pizotifen but that left me feeling very depressed so came off. Candesartan seems to work for me so far. Was on 4mg at night, then titrated up to 8- then 16mg. 16mg was too much for me because of feeling a bit faint (I’d say that’s the main side effect, that I felt anyway otherwise it’s really good if you don’t like side effects). I’d say take it at night if you have BP issues, to save that side effect. So I’m adjusting to 12mg at night and that seems to have got my headaches under control for now and severity reduced a lot so I’m happy. Hope it helps you."

For High Blood Pressure "This drug brought my BP down but relaxed my esophageal sphincter. Got acid reflux, but I'm healed in after surgery and prayer. Nobody told me this. I stumbled on it while doing research that this can be a side effect. Taking olive leaf extract, 1000 mg per day. Seems to be working. Getting off of this Atacand as soon as I can."

For High Blood Pressure "I am taking Candesartan 4mg for high blood pressure. While it brings my BP down, it comes with a string of terrible side effects. Headaches, unable to empty the bladder completely, difficulty breathing, severe bloating, severe water retention, blood-spotted rash on both lower legs, palpitations, and the list goes on. I'm no longer taking candesartan I have weaned myself off it. Not sure why my doctor prescribes medications that make you feel worse and cause so many side effects. I do not recommend this medication."

For Migraine Prevention "Have migraines and tried topiramate (horrific) propranolol (made hair super thin) nebivolol ( had to continually increase dose ) to prevent migraines.... then went 'cold turkey' which was hellish. Finally then prescribed Candesartan which I have been on a low dose (16mg) for a year, and now just 1-2 'average' migraines a ,month, which I can manage with triptans. a godsend!"

For High Blood Pressure "Wow I just stumbled across this site! It's nice to know I'm not the only one having health issues. Been taking 4mg Candesartan every morning for approx 2 years. I have had x-rays, blood tests , scans, amongst other things looking for my problem. After feeling dizzy often, and recently bleeding nose a lot, I decided to stop Candasartan tablets. I am healthy and fit 49 year old that runs my dog 4-5km daily. I've had constant lingering headaches that are always there. I have been worried sick for over 1 year. I have stopped any recreational habits that I enjoy trying to figure out why I always have a headache. So 5 days ago I stopped Candasartan. To my surprise I have not had a blood nose or felt dizzy. My headaches stopped until today but I had a normal feeling headache and not one radiating from both sides of the base of my neck. I'm hoping today's headache is the drug leaving my body"

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on this drug for approx one month and finally went a a chiropractor for extreme neck pain radiating to back of my head. When that didn't improve my condition so I researched the side effects of this med. Guess what! neck pain! I stopped them yesterday and already am feeling a bit better. Also don't feel so tired and achy now too. No Advil yet today....will do my own research now on other meds for high Bp and try to find one with a side effect I can live with. Then I will revisit my GP"

For High Blood Pressure "I was on Amlodipine but they were making my ankles swell so badly. Doc put me on 8mg Candesartan. My blood pressure started to rise not lower, I had bad pain in my jaw, to the point I thought it was my back molar tooth. Dentist said it wasn't my tooth but maybe a gum infection, 5 days of antibiotics and no let up of pain. I was taking up to 10 pain relievers a day. Blood pressure into the 170/103. no less than 147/90 for weeks. Asked doc if tooth pain could be causing this, he said yes. Back to emergency appointment to the dentist. Told me nothing wrong with my tooth, must be gum disease. I mentioned my blood pressure being high because of pain, he then asked if I was taking tablets for it. Found out then it could be the tablets causing my pain and high blood pressure. I stopped taking the Candesartan straight away, and after a week off them, happy to say my blood pressure is back to normal, and tooth pain fading away nicely."

For High Blood Pressure "Hi all thanks for all your comments has helped been on candesartan 4 and 2mg along with with amilodipine 10mg which was reduced to 5mg. Now my bp is too low so doctor reduced the candesartan to 2mg and off amioldipine as caused legs to swell. I go to doctors next week to see if bp ok. Fingers crossed as I feel so tired and weak and don’t sleep much, I wake up early hours so am so exhausted. Any ideas out there can help me."

For High Blood Pressure "My blood pressure was 249/149 to start tried numerous blood pressure medication and had side effects with everything up to now. I'm on 32mg candesartan and 10mg amlodipine and my bp is still 170/110. I feel rubbish all the time tired, bloated, feeling sick, urinating a lot, headache, joint pain, this is just to name a few. When asking gp about side effects, they say lets get the bp down first. I think I'm going to take my chances with out the medication because my quality of life is so bad, it was better without the medication."

For High Blood Pressure "35-year-old Caucasian male. I have taken this drug (the + version with the hydrochlorothizide diuretic) for several years and it has kept my blood pressure where it should be. No side effects. I initially switched to this ARB due to the persistent cough associated with ACE inhibitors. Recommended"

For High Blood Pressure "I'm on 2mg Candesartan for mild hypertension. A month in, I had such bad chest pain, my Dr sent me for an ECG. It was normal thankfully! Since then, I've gone on to have daily headaches and dizziness. I started HRT at the same time as Candesartan and I put it down to that. I've now started with a painful neck, pain down both sides and a niggle in my back. I didn't know Candesartan had all these side effects. I phoned a pharmacist, this morning, and she's told me to stop immediately. I'm so glad I found this forum and I hope this post helps others with the same symptoms."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been taking 16 mg of this medication for approximately 4 months. My blood pressure is the best it's been in 35 years and my heart rate is the lowest it's been in my entire life. The problem is I have absolutely no energy and feel worn out all the time. I wish there was a happy medium. I have been extremely active all my life. I hate feeling down all the time."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been suffering from migraines increasingly since 2000. I have tried about 10 different drugs for prophylaxis and only sodium valproate worked at 1g per day. It then stopped working. Candesartan 8mg has been a complete breakthrough. 4mg was no good but since I have been on 8mg I have got my life back. I’ve taken it for about a year now."

For Migraine Prevention "I started to take this for high blood pressure a month ago. Since then I haven't had any proper migraine. The treatment for me was effective within 2 days. I used to have 2 / 3 migraines per week. Therefore, if this would work forever, it would be the best treatment I have taken in my whole life. I hope the effect doesn't start to fade away; however, I only take 2mg, and I have seen that there are higher doses...so I feel optimistic that I will work for long."

Been taking it for 3 months now. I still have a weekly migraine but only for few hours. Only side effect I seem to have is an intermittent runny nose. I actually feel like I have my life back."

For Migraine Prevention "As I have a low blood pressure I was hesitant to try this medicine. However, the dizziness subsided after only a few days. After that, no migraine for a couple months! They have come back though, so I will start a higher dose as of today (the maximum dose of 32 mg). Until now very positive! It’s been a life saver"

For High Blood Pressure "I have had a terrible time with this medication. Has not brought my blood pressure down. I have been having heart palpitations, sharp pains in my chest that is so severe I thought I was having a heart attack also troubles breathing. I was fine on a lower dose with side effects but it wasn't bringing my blood pressure down so the doctor put it up to 24mg from 8mg. Also been coughing like crazy and troubles breathing. I hope other people have better luck with it. Just wanted to let people know if your having these symptoms that's what it is. Thanks"

For High Blood Pressure "Started Candesartan 6/2020, 16mg. Seem to be ok until February 2021, blood pressure started to rise. I'm assuming because of the pandemic, couldn't workout like I wanted to. Doctor increased dosage to 32mg. Since then my life has been pretty scary. Every morning before breakfast and evening before dinner, I'm so lightheaded, depressed, crying because I don't know if I'm about to pass out. Can't go in the sun, get too dehydrated. Acid reflux every evening. Can't concentrate due to tinnitus. And pressure still high. At the pharmacy now to get different drug."

For High Blood Pressure "For some reason, this medicine seems to give me nasty palpitations and arrhythmia. It also makes me really tired, even on an 8mg dose. I tried switching to another medication and these side effects went away. Sadly I had to go back on candesartan because the other medicine caused really bad vertigo. Side effects came back after starting candesartan again, so the correlation is pretty clear. Hopefully I will find something that works for me since I really do NOT want to take candesartan anymore. I know several people who tolerate this medicine well, but for me it's absolutely terrible. We are all different."

For High Blood Pressure "I'm a multi-stroke survivor who has silent migraines with auras; malignant hypertension (MHP)and Crohn's. Have tried many BP medications but the adverse effects I couldn't tolerated, especially the dizziness (already a fall risk after the strokes). A doctor seeing that I'm sensitive to medications and hypokalemic, put me on Candesartan as it's a potassium sparing medication; has a strong BP lowering effect; and less side-effects than ACE inhibitors. No adverse effects. One of the few medications that is like a sugar pill to me to take. It's not enough to control my MHP itself even at 32mg, but combined with another and a water pill it can get my 230/120 BP down to 120/80s. I still have silent migraines with auras with Candesartan, but it, and elimination of caffeine, reduces the auras to about once a month. Overall, very pleased with the medication."

For High Blood Pressure "Replying to Paul7, I was on 4mg Candesartan for 2 years & I could not sleep at night due to the side effect of nasal congestion plus urinal tract infection. I have switched recently to Indapamide 1.5mg SR diuretic which seems to work well along with my Amlodipine 5mg. Statins also gave me sinus/nasal problems so I have reduced the dosage and now fine. Hope this helps."

For Migraine Prevention "I was prescribed this drug for migraine prevention, starting at 4mg and increasing the dosage by 4mg until I got to 16mg,if the migraines had not improved. They didn't and the side effects I experienced were extremely loud tinnitus at 8mg and above, hair loss, acid reflux resulting in the need to take omeprazole to counteract this, insomnia, hot sweats, nausea and weight gain of 22lb due to the fact of feeling so ill,I was unable to do regular exercise. Not a nice drug and did not reduce the severity of my migraine."

For High Blood Pressure "Until two weeks ago I had been on this medication for at least a decade, 16mg morning. It controlled my BP pretty well. Seemingly unconnected, two years ago I developed what was diagnosed as very painful hip bursitis (both sides) when walking - I was a daily 4-5km walker. The pain steadily worsened to the point I could no longer walk. From about 8 months ago I was literally only able to hobble around the house. In desperation two months ago I changed my GP. He couldn't find anything wrong other than the bursitis, but as a last resort - two weeks ago - suggested stopping the Candestartan for a few days (it has a short half life so effect would show up within 36-48 hours). Lo and behold!! 48 hours later I was able to walk freely. The next day I walked a km, and have stepped it up over the last 10 days back to an average 5km a day. NO PAIN! I have my life back! I now find that back and leg pain are this med's stated number one side effect. I would appreciate having the kinetics explained."
