For Migraine Prevention "I started candesartan in November after being diagnosed with chronic migraine to the point where I had one every day, and I felt hopeless. I was given pizotifen, but that left me feeling very depressed, so I came off it. Candesartan seems to work for me so far. I was on 4 mg at night, then titrated up to 8, and then 16 mg. 16 mg was too much for me because I felt a bit faint (I’d say that’s the main side effect that I felt, otherwise, it’s really good if you don’t like side effects). I’d say take it at night if you have BP issues to save that side effect. So I’m adjusting to 12 mg at night, and that seems to have got my headaches under control for now, and the severity has reduced a lot, so I’m happy. Hope it helps you."

For High Blood Pressure "This drug brought my BP down but relaxed my esophageal sphincter. Got acid reflux, but I'm healed after surgery and prayer. Nobody told me this. I stumbled on it while doing research that this can be a side effect. Taking olive leaf extract, 1000 mg per day. Seems to be working. Getting off of this Atacand as soon as I can."

For High Blood Pressure "Wow, I just stumbled across this site! It's nice to know I'm not the only one having health issues. Been taking 4 mg Candesartan every morning for approx 2 years. I have had x-rays, blood tests, scans, amongst other things, looking for my problem. After feeling dizzy often and recently bleeding nose a lot, I decided to stop Candesartan tablets. I am a healthy and fit 49-year-old who runs my dog 4-5 km daily. I've had constant lingering headaches that are always there. I have been worried sick for over 1 year. I have stopped any recreational habits that I enjoy, trying to figure out why I always have a headache. So, 5 days ago I stopped Candesartan. To my surprise, I have not had a blood nose or felt dizzy. My headaches stopped until today, but I had a normal feeling headache and not one radiating from both sides of the base of my neck. I'm hoping today's headache is the drug leaving my body."

For Migraine Prevention "I have migraines and tried topiramate (horrific), propranolol (made hair super thin), and nebivolol (had to continually increase dose) to prevent migraines. Then I went 'cold turkey,' which was hellish. Finally, I was prescribed Candesartan, which I have been on at a low dose (16 mg) for a year, and now I only have 1-2 'average' migraines a month, which I can manage with triptans. It's a godsend!"

For High Blood Pressure "Candesartan 8 mg has been prescribed to me for 6 months. My blood pressure seems to be regulating, but for the past 3 months, I have been experiencing increasingly debilitating side effects: throat and palate pain and irritation, sinusitis, red and tearing eyes... If this continues, I will have to change medications, as I can no longer tolerate these adverse effects."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been using this medication since 2022. Daily 8 mg, greatly reduced my BP from 160/120 to 110/80. I think it's some side effect, dizziness, frequent urination, difficulty ejaculating. Otherwise, it's the best choice to reduce high blood pressure."

For High Blood Pressure "My blood pressure was 249/149 to start. Tried numerous blood pressure medications and had side effects with everything up to now. I'm on 32 mg candesartan and 10 mg amlodipine, and my BP is still 170/110. I feel rubbish all the time: tired, bloated, feeling sick, urinating a lot, headache, joint pain, this is just to name a few. When asking GP about side effects, they say, 'Let's get the BP down first.' I think I'm going to take my chances without the medication because my quality of life is so bad, it was better without the medication."

For High Blood Pressure "Thanks for all your comments. Has helped. Been on candesartan 4 and 2 mg along with amlodipine 10 mg, which was reduced to 5 mg. Now my BP is too low, so doctor reduced the candesartan to 2 mg and off amlodipine as it caused legs to swell. I go to doctors next week to see if BP is okay. Fingers crossed as I feel so tired and weak and don’t sleep much. I wake up in the early hours, so I am so exhausted. Any ideas out there can help me."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on Amlodipine, but they were making my ankles swell so badly. Doc put me on 8 mg Candesartan. My blood pressure started to rise, not lower, I had bad pain in my jaw to the point I thought it was my back molar tooth. Dentist said it wasn't my tooth but maybe a gum infection. Five days of antibiotics and no let-up of pain. I was taking up to 10 pain relievers a day. Blood pressure into the 170/103, no less than 147/90 for weeks. Asked doc if tooth pain could be causing this, he said yes. Back to emergency appointment to the dentist. Told me nothing wrong with my tooth, it must be gum disease. I mentioned my blood pressure being high because of pain, he then asked if I was taking tablets for it. Found out then it could be the tablets causing my pain and high blood pressure. I stopped taking the Candesartan straight away, and after a week off them, happy to say my blood pressure is back to normal, and tooth pain fading away nicely."

For Migraine Prevention "I started to take this for high blood pressure a month ago. Since then I haven't had any proper migraine. The treatment for me was effective within 2 days. I used to have 2/3 migraines per week. Therefore, if this would work forever, it would be the best treatment I have taken in my whole life. I hope the effect doesn't start to fade away; however, I only take 2 mg, and I have seen that there are higher doses... so I feel optimistic that I will work for long."

For High Blood Pressure "I have had a terrible time with this medication. Has not brought my blood pressure down. I have been having heart palpitations, sharp pains in my chest that are so severe I thought I was having a heart attack, also troubles breathing. I was fine on a lower dose with side effects, but it wasn't bringing my blood pressure down, so the doctor put it up to 24 mg from 8 mg. Also been coughing like crazy and troubles breathing. I hope other people have better luck with it. Just wanted to let people know if you're having these symptoms, that's what it is. Thanks."

For High Blood Pressure "I'm on 2 mg Candesartan for mild hypertension. A month in, I had such bad chest pain, my Dr. sent me for an ECG. It was normal, thankfully! Since then, I've gone on to have daily headaches and dizziness. I started HRT at the same time as Candesartan, and I put it down to that. I've now started with a painful neck, pain down both sides, and a niggle in my back. I didn't know Candesartan had all these side effects. I phoned a pharmacist this morning, and she's told me to stop immediately. I'm so glad I found this forum, and I hope this post helps others with the same symptoms."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been suffering from migraines increasingly since 2000. I have tried about 10 different drugs for prophylaxis, and only sodium valproate worked at 1g per day. It then stopped working. Candesartan 8mg has been a complete breakthrough. 4mg was no good, but since I have been on 8mg, I have got my life back. I’ve taken it for about a year now."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on this drug for approx one month and finally went to a chiropractor for extreme neck pain radiating to the back of my head. When that didn't improve my condition, I researched the side effects of this med. Guess what! Neck pain! I stopped them yesterday and already am feeling a bit better. Also don't feel so tired and achy now too. No Advil yet today... will do my own research now on other meds for high BP and try to find one with a side effect I can live with. Then I will revisit my GP."

For High Blood Pressure "Until two weeks ago, I had been on this medication for at least a decade, 16 mg morning. It controlled my BP pretty well. Seemingly unconnected, two years ago I developed what was diagnosed as very painful hip bursitis (both sides) when walking - I was a daily 4-5 km walker. The pain steadily worsened to the point I could no longer walk. From about eight months ago, I was literally only able to hobble around the house. In desperation, two months ago, I changed my GP. He couldn't find anything wrong other than the bursitis, but as a last resort - two weeks ago - suggested stopping the candesartan for a few days (it has a short half-life, so the effect would show up within 36-48 hours). Lo and behold!! 48 hours later, I was able to walk freely. The next day, I walked a km and have stepped it up over the last ten days back to an average of 5 km a day. NO PAIN! I have my life back! I now find that back and leg pain are this med's stated number one side effect. I would appreciate having the kinetics explained."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been taking 16 mg of this medication for approximately 4 months. My blood pressure is the best it's been in 35 years and my heart rate is the lowest it's been in my entire life. The problem is I have absolutely no energy and feel worn out all the time. I wish there was a happy medium. I have been extremely active all my life. I hate feeling down all the time."

For High Blood Pressure "35-year-old Caucasian male. I have taken this drug (the + version with the hydrochlorothiazide diuretic) for several years, and it has kept my blood pressure where it should be. No side effects. I initially switched to this ARB due to the persistent cough associated with ACE inhibitors. Recommended."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been on many meds to control my migraines that I had once a week for 3 days, then fatigue and brain fog for 3 days after that. After coming off Topiramate because of the awful side effects, I was prescribed candesartan 16 mg. I've been taking it for 3 months now. I still have a weekly migraine, but only for a few hours. The only side effect I seem to have is an intermittent runny nose. I actually feel like I have my life back."

Candesartan for High Blood Pressure "Started Atacand HCT with BP ~ 180/90 & bad headache. Five hours later with BP unchanged, took 2 aspirin for headache after verifying compatibility with manufacturer. Two hours later BP 132/77. Fifteen hours after first dose, took second dose of Atacand HCT with BP 166/93. BP remained at ~ 160/90 for next 14 hours. After two doses, six aspirin, and 36 hours, BP dropped to ~ 135/78 and stayed. After a month, a high BP reading was 141/76 and a low 105/66. Noted: lim BP increase with exertion."

For High Blood Pressure "Started Candesartan 6/2020, 16 mg. Seem to be okay until February 2021, blood pressure started to rise. I'm assuming because of the pandemic, couldn't work out like I wanted to. Doctor increased dosage to 32 mg. Since then, my life has been pretty scary. Every morning before breakfast and evening before dinner, I'm so lightheaded, depressed, crying because I don't know if I'm about to pass out. Can't go in the sun, get too dehydrated. Acid reflux every evening. Can't concentrate due to tinnitus. And pressure still high. At the pharmacy now to get a different drug."

For Migraine Prevention "As I have low blood pressure, I was hesitant to try this medicine. However, the dizziness subsided after only a few days. After that, no migraine for a couple of months! They have come back, though, so I will start a higher dose as of today (the maximum dose of 32 mg). Until now, very positive! It’s been a life saver."

For High Blood Pressure "For some reason, this medicine seems to give me nasty palpitations and arrhythmia. It also makes me really tired, even on an 8 mg dose. I tried switching to another medication, and these side effects went away. Sadly, I had to go back on candesartan because the other medicine caused really bad vertigo. Side effects came back after starting candesartan again, so the correlation is pretty clear. Hopefully, I will find something that works for me since I really do NOT want to take candesartan anymore. I know several people who tolerate this medicine well, but for me, it's absolutely terrible. We are all different."

For Migraine Prevention "I have suffered with migraines for the past 34 years. I had chronic acute migraines (18-27 per month). I have been on more preventive medications than I can count. My neurologist put me on candesartan because nothing else had worked. I started at 4 mg and now take 8mg. In the three months that I have been on candesartan, I have only had a handful of very treatable migraines. I feel like my life is in my control now and my migraines no longer control me."
