For Asthma, Maintenance "As long as the inhaler works, it's fine. The problem is, it's not reliable after a while. Sometimes it gives the dose, and sometimes it doesn't. Took me a while to realize it wasn't working. Now I try it first before I use it, but that means I'm wasting half of it."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I’m so annoyed (understatement) that Qvar changed my 3 months of inhalers to 1 at an astronomical cost. My 3-month inhalers worked just fine. Now I have to pay for a one-month inhaler at the same price I got 3. AND WHEN I OPEN THE INHALER, IT COMES APART SO I CAN'T GET THE MED INSIDE UNTIL I PUT IT BACK TOGETHER. It sucks, damn drug companies. I will need to contact Teva directly."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Was on Pulmicort 180 for just over 16 years, worked amazingly. Then my insurance decided not to cover it anymore, which they only covered half in the first place. Then the doctor put me on Qvar 80 inhaler. A few issues at first, but got better and asthma was well maintained again. About 3 months ago, they came out with Qvar RediHaler. HORRIBLE!! I have to take rescue inhaler with this 1-3 times a week. I used to only have to take it 1-3 times a year with Pulmicort. It doesn't even feel like I'm getting anything in my lungs when taking it. Would not recommend to anyone! Going back to the doctor this month and begging them to contact the insurance company and ask them to please start covering Pulmicort for me, for it is needed. It's $120 vs $60, but I'd rather breathe!!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "Although I'm paying a king's ransom for this thanks to my garbage insurance, this immediately improved my asthma. I'm not sure why so many people seem to have a problem with it, but I'm having great success. I'm actually sleeping now, and I'm not rasping all the time. I'm not even kidding, it made a difference after the first dose. To be fair, I was also enjoying good results with Advair, but this seems more effective."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I pushed for Qvar since it was no longer on the formulary and considered an exception through my insurance. The old version was my go-to savior for controlling my asthma with no side effects. I found reviews here that confirm my suspicions, which is my inhaler stopped dispensing the medication properly. AFTER I’ve inhaled it, the powder starts to come out of the canister. I’m not sure how many days' worth of medication I’ve lost, and my copay is $50. I’m on a budget, so this is extremely worrisome. Now I’m not sure if I can afford to continue with it when I’m not getting my money’s worth. Also, it seems that the new version isn’t as effective as the old one, so I’m not sure if there has been an ingredient change or if it’s just the inefficient dispenser. I also noticed it caused hoarseness in my voice. Total disappointment, to say the least."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've been taking the 80 mcg for going on 3 weeks now, and I don't feel like it's doing any good. I am still using my rescue inhaler 2-4 times a day. I also, in the last week, have developed what feels like a lump in my throat and trouble swallowing/dry throat, along with headaches."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I started using the new Qvar RediHaler inhaler in December 2018 and had issues almost from the start. I’m happy to see that others have as well because my pharmacy made me feel as if the fault was mine. I know the RediHaler is ineffective because I had an old inhaler that had 100 puffs left on it, so in March, after many calls to the company (and they did graciously replace the inhalers a couple of times at their expense, but to no avail), I finished out my old inhaler, and I was fine during that time. Now that I’m back on the new inhaler, I’m wheezing again, and I’m very unhappy. Anyone who suffers from asthma knows all too well how frightening it is to not get relief from a trusted medication. This once effective, expensive medication (I pay out of pocket) is no longer doing its job! Please find a way to return to the original dispenser without compromising the quality of the medication."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've used Qvar for years, after using Azmacort, which started giving me panic attacks. I only use it once a day, which is fantastic. The expense is horrible. It's gone up in price drastically over the past three years-just went up again, I believe, to $178 for a 40 mcg inhaler. It's the best medication for me, as I need very little of it, and I don't, except in extremely rare circumstances, need my emergency inhaler. It's great for the management of my mild asthma. Insurance helps a lot with the expense."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have been using the Qvar inhaler for years. It's annoying that they switched to the breath-activated inhaler, and I have been feeling like it didn't quite control my asthma as well as the old kind. The last two RediHalers I've used have been absolutely terrible. When about half the doses are used up, the inhaler has a very weak spray that goes on for about 20 seconds. Likely I'm getting way less than a full dose since breathing in doesn't take that long. Utterly unacceptable!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "This is my second Qvar RediHaler, and both stopped working at 90 doses. I've complained, and nothing was done about it. Seems like it's a known problem, and the company does nothing. I'm out of 100 bucks now, but I'm going to ask my doc for something new."

For Asthma, Maintenance "This stuff is literally a lifesaver. I've had chronic, severe asthma for as long as I can remember, and I finally stopped being scared of steroid inhalers to do something about it. I've been on Qvar for about 2 months, and I couldn't have ever imagined waking up without needing to use my inhaler right away, let alone actually sleep through a night without grabbing for it multiple times! Sometimes I even forget to bring my emergency inhaler when I leave the house, which was once completely unimaginable, because I rarely use it now. I've had no side effects from Qvar; I rinse my mouth out after use and all that (tip: you have to close the cap between each puff to reset it). The potential of a weakened immune system does admittedly freak me out, but personally I would rather live in comfort and without fear of an asthma attack striking at any moment than possibly getting the cold more easily."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Well, in 2021, this is still an issue. 60 puffs left, and it quit working. Glad this isn't an emergency inhaler. To make matters worse, I didn't notice it preventing any of my asthma attacks, they are just as frequent as ever."

For Asthma, Maintenance "My pharmacy has just sent me my Qvar 100 Autohaler in the new design dispenser (22 actuations). This is a garbage design and is very difficult to use correctly. Often the medicine doesn't come out of the inhaler properly even. Why, oh why, do they change what worked perfectly well? TEVA should be told to immediately offer the original design, there is no doubt some reason behind it, an increase in cost perhaps! This isn't even worth a 1 out of 10, to be frank!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "Worst inhaler design I’ve ever seen. Doesn’t work when you most need it. When paired with a nebulizer, you have to remove it from the nebulizer every time to reset. Adds time to a process that’s already fraught. Company thought that this amount of failure was acceptable and put it on the market anyway."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Qvar was a major disappointment to me. I asked my doctor if I could try it out for my asthma because I had heard that apparently this medication goes deeper into the lungs than most other asthma medications. Long story short, I could have inhaled water vapor, and it probably would have worked better than the Qvar. If it works for you, fantastic; however, unless your asthma is very mild or very complicated, I would not recommend Qvar as a first-line treatment."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I had been on Qvar for a couple of years. I didn’t realize for a while, but when the inhaler changed to the RediHaler, my health went downhill. My thyroid was affected, and I ended up with adrenal fatigue as well. No appetite, and after 9 months, I was dropping weight fast. What finally clicked was my super, super dry mouth-thrush. I started researching and found that the RediHaler can have side effects, but they are rare. The day after I stopped this medication, my appetite was back. 2 1/2 months later, my energy is slowly getting back to normal, but I need to rest a lot."

For Asthma, Maintenance "The pharmacist explained this does not puff the drug out into your mouth. You must suck it out of the device. Being asthmatic, sometimes that is not ideal as I don't have much suck. IDK who thought of such a design. So in order to get the correct dosage, you kind of have to really exhale, then fully inhale with your mouth closed on the device. Then, after you have fully inhaled, hold your breath in for a second or two. I am trying this inhaler for the first time after my pharmacist consult."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have used a Qvar inhaler twice in the past 6 years. Every time I used it, I had many serious problems with the drug. It caused dizziness, sleepiness, and hard to think. My body was deteriorating quickly, with skin peeling, always feeling weak, and my chest tightening. When I switched from Qvar to other inhalers, these symptoms improved significantly or disappeared. Qvar has serious problems and should be used very carefully. FDA should re-evaluate the drug and publish the results."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have tried using the RediHaler 3 separate times. Each time, I get hoarse within 2 days! My mouth feels like it is full of cotton. I rinse well and even gargle with fresh water, but symptoms persist. QVAR 80 was terrific with a spacer. Now I will have to switch to Flovent, which was never as effective as QVAR 80. TEVA, you made a big mistake; your greed will cost you many customers. I suspect there may be a class action lawsuit in your future!!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "The changeover to the new dispenser - RediHaler - has been a disaster for me. About halfway through the doses on my first one, it stopped dispensing the medication. I called the manufacturer, who did replace it with a new one. It is very expensive for the new RediHaler, so that was a relief. Now I am halfway through the second one, and it is not working again. It acts as if it is dispensing, but I definitely don't feel anything going in my lungs. I tried to clean it with a rubbing alcohol tissue (like the manufacturer suggested), and it did not work. I know it is not working because I can feel the asthma in my lungs after being in control for over 6 years. It is very disheartening. Also, I have no health insurance until next month, which makes it even more nerve-racking. I called my doctor, and he is prescribing me a different daily inhaler so I don't have to deal with this again."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've been on QVAR Redi-inhaler since Sep. 2023 and it's currently Jan. 2023. So far it is working well for me. I take 2 puffs of 80mcg in the morning and at night. I have honestly had no side effects from QVAR. The only thing I will say I have noticed is that immediately after taking it, I notice sometimes my asthma/breathing feels worse, but that usually subsides after 30 mins or so, nothing too bad. I've been going for fast-paced walks in the winter and it does a good job of keeping my asthma controlled with only slight flares here and there. I've maybe only had to use my rescue inhaler once or twice a month, but that's usually because either an allergen in a new room/space triggered it or bad weather. I was on Symbicort initially but experienced fast heart rate, difficulty sleeping, heart pounding in the chest, and feeling a bit too hyper. Did not like the feeling at all. QVAR is definitely more friendly on the body in regards to side effects. I have had no issues with the dispensing of QVAR."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've been using Qvar 40 in the AM for 2 weeks. My breathing still sucks, and I constantly feel congested and like I can't get enough air. I've had to use my albuterol inhaler multiple times a day. My doctor wants me to try using the Qvar twice a day to see if it helps. I'll update in a couple of weeks."

For Bronchitis "I've been on Qvar 40 mg, 2 shots twice a day for over 12 months. My morning cough disappeared when I first started taking Qvar, then after several months it started again. I've also noticed that I've been having more sinus issues and respiratory infections: flu-like symptoms. I'm 66 and usually never get sick, but I believe Qvar has compromised my immune system. I've also noticed a lack of energy and upper back pain and muscle aches in my thighs. My voice has been affected also. I don't know why my doctor has me on twice the recommended dosage. I have early stages of emphysema. I wonder if the side effects of Qvar are worth it... I'm going to stop Qvar and see what happens. I'm tired of feeling sick and rundown."
