For Asthma, Maintenance "Qvar RediHaler is NOT the same as regular Qvar, and any provider or pharmacist that tells you that is lying or doesn't actually know. I have had severe asthma my whole life, and regular Qvar worked well and kept my asthma controlled, so I didn't have to use my rescue as much. I live in constant agony nowadays, I can't find anything that worked as well. But do not use RediHaler, it is not good! Please bring regular Qvar back and get rid of RediHaler!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've used Qvar and had no problems until they switched to the RediHaler. Now my asthma is not controlled, and I wake up lots of nights struggling to breathe. I called the company to replace my inhaler because it stopped working halfway through. I get 3 at a time through mail order, and I think they're way too expensive to be such junk. I tried to use the 2nd inhaler from my mail order, and it doesn't work at all, so I'm going to have to call them back to replace that one as well. I would throw the inhalers away, but they are too expensive. I can't believe this company is messing with people's lives! I will be switching to another brand if I don't die in the meantime."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I too am having problems with the Red-inhaler. I’m getting tired of calling the company to get them replaced. This current one stopped working, 90 puffs left. What happens is that a big puff of something comes out and causes me to cough, and then there is nothing left in it hardly. I pulled it apart to use it like the old-style actuator, as someone suggested, and it is still mostly empty. Last time I called TEVA about it, they said they were studying this problem. I hope they get it sorted out soon and give us back the old inhaler design that worked. It’s sad, QVAR was the one inhaler that worked for me."

For Asthma, Maintenance "File a complaint, Google how to report product problems and complaints to the FDA. Teva is the marketer, Norton Waterford LTD in Ireland is the manufacturer. When we get down to about 60 puffs left, the medicine blasts out and burns my daughter. It's not possible to use it and ensure she gets the correct dose and isn't harmed."

For Asthma, Maintenance "From my very first inhalation, I found it immediately more difficult to breathe. I took my second inhalation (same dose), I was lightheaded and a headache started shortly after... (I am not prone to headaches). Within an hour, I was using my rescue inhaler (immediate relief). Went to bed early. When I woke up, I pre-decided to only take 1 inhalation... immediately difficult to breathe. Yeah, no thank you. $241 down the drain. Proceed with caution."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I’ve tried using Qvar on 3 separate occasions, each time I use it, it causes asthma symptoms (wheezing, shortness of breath), which means I have to take my rescue inhaler or albuterol right after taking Qvar. I refuse to take this medicine again! Does more harm than good!!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have had issues with 5 of the last 6 Qvar RediHalers, as they would not dispense the last 20 to 50 doses. I just bought another one even though my last one is showing 28 doses remaining. I can tell that the last 10 or so doses were not even delivered. I decided to try something. I took my old one and separated the top half of the body from the bottom half by unscrewing it. You may need to cut through the label if it prevents you from twisting it open. Next, I removed the canister by pulling its nozzle from the hole. I then took a can of compressed air using the long skinny nozzle that comes with it, I stuck that nozzle right into the hole that I pulled the canister from, and I sprayed. My thinking was that perhaps there was a blockage. I put the canister back in the hole, twisted the body halves back together, and gave it a try. It worked. It's been just like new after 10 doses. Hope this helps."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I was on the old design of the Qvar inhaler and totally fine. I have had the same issue as many other people have commented - it randomly does not dispense medicine when used, leading to uncontrolled asthma. I'm on my fourth RediHaler, and this one started malfunctioning at 83 doses left. The reason I noticed the first one was malfunctioning? My asthma became dangerously out of control, and upon inspecting my inhaler after taking it, I saw white mist slowly spew out AFTER I had already taken a puff."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia after months of experiencing chest pains, palpitations, and, in the third month, breathing difficulties. The first treatment was a Z-Pak, which presumably killed off the bacteria, but the breathing issues persisted due to hyperreactive airways after months battling an infection without a diagnosis. Singulair didn't work after using it for a week or two, so we moved to more aggressive treatment with Qvar. Using the spacer is a must, as is heavy rinsing of the mouth and gargling. It isn't supposed to take full effect until 14 days in, but it has already started helping incrementally. Certainly less coughing. With that said, by day three I noticed that I was having random spells of nausea, and by day four I was having peculiar back/chest/arm/neck aches that seem to feel like a pinched nerve. I will post another update in a few weeks when, hopefully, this drug finally resolves my post-mycoplasma lung issues."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have used the 40 mcg Qvar inhaler for several years. My past several inhalers have worked okay at first, and then one stopped counting after the 72nd dose. It no longer decreased when I used it. I do not believe any dose was being provided. Two more inhalers have given off a 'loud' gas-exhalation sound at about 30 doses left, and then nothing more comes out when you load it. Something is seriously wrong with these inhalers."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I used Qvar since 2007. I considered it my miracle drug because it had my asthma under control. I almost never had to use my rescue inhaler. Then the inhaler design was changed. I could not get the counter to go down; therefore, I didn’t know if I was getting any medicine. I tried 6 of the new inhalers. The counter did not go down for any of them. I talked to three pharmacists, and I demonstrated how I used it. All three said that I was using it properly. I also talked to the manufacturer and they wouldn’t send me any more since they had replaced the first three. I also talked to about 10 pharmacists on the phone. I also reported it to the FDA. They should not have taken the old design off the market until they were sure the new design worked."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have been using Qvar for over two years off and on for variant asthma. It kept my cough under control. A couple of months ago, I picked up a new prescription and was surprised to see the RediHaler. I thought, “Wow, this is great!” I spoke too soon, besides the expensive price tag, it quit working halfway through the doses. I noticed I didn’t taste any medication. I was going through a bout of bronchitis from a cold. The Qvar was not working at all! Thankfully, I still had another brand of steroid inhaler I started using that worked. I won’t pay for another one. Poor design. I have great insurance, so cost isn’t the main issue for me, but a waste of money when they quit working. I will be seeing my pulmonologist to change to another brand."

For Asthma, Maintenance "My first question is why was the old Qvar container discontinued if something is not broken, why would you try and fix it? If a four-year-old was having a problem with the container, the parent should have shared this information with the doctor. I am an adult patient, and my experience with the new inhaler is awful. I have not been able to get any relief since you changed the inhaler (container). If you lose the patients that benefit from the old dispenser, you would have lost money and also your customers. In order for me not to end up in the hospital, I would like to receive the oldest container of Qvar back at my pharmacy."

For Asthma, Maintenance "The RediHaler is awful. I coughed for 15 days trying to use the new design. It wasn't working. I had bought 3 units from my mail order, and the other 2 don't work either. Teva replaced the 1st unit, but I still need to call them back about units 2 & 3. I don't believe these units dispense any product. Two of them, however, spewed out product long after I took it out of my mouth. I need to speak to my doctor about another product."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've been on Qvar 80 mcg for a long while - years - with no issues and good asthma control. Swapped to Qvar RediHaler last month because the conventional propelled Qvar was no longer available. Same dose, 80 mcg. Same general method of taking, fully exhaling beforehand, then inhaling deeply and holding breath - just no shaking of inhaler and no pushing down to actuate. Only now it seems to wear off much faster, so that I feel the need to take my next dose a couple of hours before it's due (I don't take it early, but I feel very wheezy). In the past, I sometimes forgot my second dose because I didn't feel like I needed it. My pulmonologist says there's been no adverse changes in my lung health to explain this. And the medication and dose haven't changed. So it makes no sense to me that I'd be fully controlled on one, poorly controlled on the other."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Unreliable and inconsistent with dosing. One of every two is non-functional. The dosing mechanism is faulty and obviously did not get a thorough quality control evaluation. Avoid this inhaler until reliability improves."

For Asthma, Maintenance "As others report, my Qvar RediHaler 80 mcg stopped functioning properly. I wasn't clear what was happening-my hearing isn't perfect-and my asthma became poorly controlled because the drug was not actually dispensing when I was using it. Today I switched to a new RediHaler and could immediately tell it was dispensing-and that the last one had been failing to dispense before. I kept the defective device for investigators (just in case a regulator decides to do their job) and reported to the FDA and my Attorney General's office, including my contact info. I hope others will consider doing the same."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Have recently started back on QVAR after having stopped due to gastritis, which was probably caused by beta-blocker/aspirin and 2bd blood thinner for my heart attack, which turned out not to be one in the first instance but remained on these meds for months until MRI confirmed otherwise - myocarditis. Respiratory specialist states 60% fine mist particles lodge in the lungs with QVAR, the other 40% probably into my gut, which is causing me nausea, plus headaches and fungal infected fingers (2). Am back to trying an evening one single dose through spacer, rinsing mouth and hoping my body will adapt to these side effects. Has anyone got any suggestions or thoughts? I'm immune suppressed with PMR 18+ months on steroids, now tapering."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Was using the old pump QVAR, and it was working great. When it came time to renew my prescription, I was surprised to find these new devices. They do not work to deliver the medication. Went on Thingiverse and 3D printed an integrated inhaler and Aerochamber. Works great. Really sucks that Teva changed the format and is now ripping people off. The meds are the same, but the new delivery device and even the canister have changed, so that you cannot use your old inhaler body. Very sad. You can find it here to print your own."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have had to return the RediHaler twice to the pharmacy because it keeps dosing after I stop inhaling. It also dispenses particles. I liked the old inhaler device better and had no problems with it. I worry how it affects your health when the dose is not regulated."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I notice short dosing across lots of QVAR inhalers starting at 25 doses left. By 15 doses left, I might as well not use it. Frustrating because it's on the formulary. The company replaces them, but who wants to call every month? I have reported to the FDA twice. If not for this, I would rate a 10."

I will call the manufacturer to try and get a replacement, but I am surprised to see so many others have had similar problems. Do they not test these out before launching? The new design is annoyingly big too."

For Asthma, Maintenance "The new design for QVAR sucks! It's very difficult to use, and it's hard to tell if it's working. The old push, release, spray, and breath was much better. It's hard to tell if anything is getting into my lungs. Combine the fact that the RediHaler is a very poor design with the fact that the medication is very overpriced--I'll be looking for an alternative inhaler."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've used Vanceril, Flovent, original Qvar, and Qvar RediHaler over the years. The RediHaler was a bad idea from the start. Making asthmatics inhale forcefully in order to get their med is just a poor idea. Not being able to shake it means the mix could have settled and the dosage could be off. Over the 5 years I've been on this version, some inhalers have worked fine until about 10 doses left (according to the counter), but many have noticeably declined in effectiveness before 20 left. The counter is also not accurate. It frequently shows an odd number left when I always do two (yes, properly separated). I know they only switched the method to get around allowing generics and that shouldn't have been allowed. They could have added a new version and made the original as a generic on its own. Some people are bad at the timing, but for those of us who know what they're doing, this method is worse. Flovent doesn't work well for me. Qvar is currently backordered as well."
