For Allergic Rhinitis "I had a very extreme adverse reaction to azelastine. I took one spray in my right nostril. Immediately, I had intense nasal burning, terrible pressure over my sinuses, and a severe headache, muscle spasms in calves and shoulders, drowsiness, and increased blood pressure. Days later, I developed nerve irritation and occipital neuralgia and dizziness due to pinched nerves from the muscle spasms in my shoulders. My mouth became extremely dry with a bitter taste, but luckily that only lasted a couple of days. The occipital neuralgia has been the worst part. It has been almost two weeks, and I still have the neuralgia. Massage and stretching help relieve it temporarily, but then the pain comes back."

For Allergic Rhinitis "My PCP prescribed azelastine 7 days ago for my nasal congestion. It worked like a charm on day 1, and I was able to have a good night's rest finally after 2 weeks of pre-allergy season nasal congestion. But a few days later, not sure what happened. I am more congested than ever. It keeps me awake at night, and then when it does kick in several hours later, that's when it's almost time for me to wake up for work. And that bitter taste it leaves behind is horrible. I'm always trying to cough it up before it gets down my throat. I would not recommend this drug. Hasn't worked for me since day 2."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I have seen so many doctors for asthma and non-seasonal allergic rhinitis. I was put on azelastine HCl 3 weeks ago. I now have an improved quality of life. This drug is a lifesaver for me. Only has a bitter taste if you don't follow directions. So what? It works."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I've been using this azelastine for a few months. The bad taste has pretty much disappeared. Keep your head tilted forward for a few minutes as you do stuff and walk around. Unfortunately, it seems to only slightly work. But slightly is better than nothing, which is what I got from other nasal sprays."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I had sinus surgery a long time ago. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't!!! I have tried numerous meds and seen several doctors. MISERABLE was my first, middle, and last name. Azelastine has been the best med this far. I do have an aftertaste, but it's tolerable. I do experience some burning in my nose, but it goes away quickly. I can't just depend solely on meds but must do my part. That is, wrap up when I go out into the cold and inclement weather. What's the use of using any meds if you won't put a hat on? That was some of my battle."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I used this before my shower and-oh, the taste is so horrible it's hard to stop thinking about it. I feel it in my throat every time I breathe in, and it's such a gross feeling I just want to spit it all out."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Have been using for a couple of years with little relief from post-nasal drip and blocked nasal breathing. Also now giving me headaches and nosebleeds, plus the awful aftertaste. I wake up with muscle pain and general fatigue, which I just associated with it-doesn't happen when I don't take it, so will discontinue."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I flew with a head cold about 8 months ago and had not since been able to relieve the pressure in my sinuses and ears. I finally went to an ENT after a couple urgent care trips for supposed ear infections. The ENT prescribed this... Within minutes, I felt a clarity in all my head sinuses that I hadn't felt since what feels like last year. Absolutely amazing. I didn't get the bitter taste my doc warned me about, but I'll just chalk that up to what others are saying (I tilted my head forward when administering, like in the medication's instructions). It only gets a 9/10 because I haven't been on it long enough to notice any negative effects."

Azelastine nasal for Allergic Rhinitis "My asthma and allergist prescribed this for me when continued use of Flonase was giving me nosebleeds. I took it the next day and never have again. I could not get the taste out of my mouth for half an hour, no matter what I ate or drank to get it to go away. I have a bad cold right now and the Flonase isn't doing very well, I'm considering trying the Astelin again, but I don't know if the taste is worth it."

"My PCP prescribed this after I blacked out and made a trip to the ER in November, where they found no cause for my 'spell.' Followed up the following week with PCP as directed, and she found fluid in my right ear. This was given to me to treat fluid and post-nasal drip. No matter how I hold my head, the taste is horrid. After using for a few days, the previously unaching ear started to hurt. I have discontinued use as it also seemed to make my sinus drainage seem worse. On to the ENT this month. Had over a month wait to get an appointment. Personally, do not recommend."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I was prescribed this nasal spray today, and I honestly can say it’s the absolute worst-tasting medicine I have ever tasted. No, I didn’t drink it, but the longest-lasting chemical bitter taste in my passages will not go away. Gagging on this stuff. So glad it was free through insurance because I’m calling my doctor tomorrow and telling her to never prescribe this awful stuff again. Not to mention, it burns!"

For Allergic Rhinitis "Instant relief for me. Stuffed-up nose, unable to breathe. I have been reluctant to use it because of all the comments about a horrible aftertaste. Thank you to all of you who have described the proper way to use azelastine, which is: bend your head over (forward), point the nozzle toward your ear and spray while breathing in through your nose and exhale through your mouth, remain bent over for 30 seconds. I guess I got lucky, no bad aftertaste at all. So refreshing to be able to have both sinuses clear and working 100%."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I am so glad my doctor prescribed this to me. I was constantly sniffling and reaching for tissues practically year-round. I started using this 2 weeks ago, and I can finally breathe through my nose 99% of the time! It has a bitter taste, but it is not all that noticeable to me, and I don’t use any specific spray technique. I have noticed zero cognitive effects like sedation."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Terrible. I blame the pharmacist for not giving me directions for use and side effect information. So, at 4 pm, I sprayed it inside each nasal, right away, that bitter taste was horrifying and lasted 5 hours. Later, at 7 pm, I took my Ativan. About an hour later, I felt so sleepy/tired/drowsy, and my blood pressure was sky high at 179/101 while all alone, it was under control without meds. I’m very upset at my new doctor and the pharmacy for neglecting my safety."

For Allergic Rhinitis "The worst tasting thing ever. I've been battling the bitter/acid taste for 30 min now and can't stop gagging. Now I'm sick to my stomach as well as this cold."

For Allergic Rhinitis "It relieves my sneezes and nose itching just ten minutes after using it, unlike most oral antihistamines. It's the only thing that has worked for my rhinitis! It has definitely improved my quality of life. Just have your head tilted to your chin to avoid a bitter taste."
