For Middle Ear Infections "Have had a blocked ear for 5 days now. Went to the doctor last night as the pain was unbearable. I have absolute no hearing in my left ear and was really concerned. I have been prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg and just have taken two doses. It had eased the pain, but there is still a dull pain remaining. Still no sign of my hearing coming back, hopefully, it does soon, driving me mad! Upset stomach from this antibiotic, which is one side effect."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "Had symptoms such as swollen gland on my neck, sore throat. Doctor prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg (to be taken every 8 hrs). Got so much better after three days after taking amoxicillin! But do keep in mind, if you have any symptoms such as rashes, stomach upset, or nausea, stop taking amoxicillin because you might be allergic to this antibiotic."

For Dental Abscess "Every time I take Amoxicillin, I get stomach/abdomen problems and can't control my bowels. Also, I feel very anxious and can't think straight. I try not to do anything important, as I can't focus at all. Other people I know have also experienced this (thankfully), as I thought I was getting mentally ill! These antibiotics really make you feel low, but they work! I was prescribed 3 x 500 mg for a week after dental extraction but could only manage to take 2 a day. I quit after 4 days, though I know it's important to take the whole course. I try to stay out of the sun when I'm on this drug, as symptoms are worse if you sunbathe."

For Sinusitis "Had to take this 3 times a day for 21 days. Only used it for 3 days. Had side effects. Stomach upset, intestinal upset, headache, and felt anxious. I've used it before years ago with no problems, but this time it's a no go. I guess our systems change as the years go on."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "The drug was effective after the seventh day, I was suffering from tonsil stones and a sore throat, probably strep throat. On the seventh day, it's gone, and the only reaction I had with the drug was an upset stomach."

For Middle Ear Infections "Starts to work after the first dose. I have taken this for ear infections, as well as sinus and chest infections, and it is always very effective. Symptoms start to ease in around 12 hours and are almost completely gone within 48 to 72 hours. Always finish your entire prescription though to help avoid antibiotic-resistant bacteria and to stop the infection from returning. The only downfall is that it can upset your stomach, so always take it with food. Depending on your condition, you might need to use other medications or remedies along with amoxicillin to ease other symptoms. Some pharmacies offer this on their $4 prescription plans."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "Was taking amoxicillin 875 mg twice a day. Tablets had excessive tiredness, chest pain, and upset stomach. First pill ever that made me so sleepy every day. I'm 18, so it might work differently for other people."

For Bacterial Infection "I have emetophobia, and I know other people browsing this site will be the same. I was prescribed this for Lyme disease (after being unable to take doxycycline due to anxiety). I am currently on day 20 of a 21-day course (!!). I am taking a very large dose, 2x 500 mg tablets, 3x a day, about twice the usual. Side effects have been mild, I already have IBS but have only had very mild and occasional stomach upset, no real diarrhea. I have experienced nausea, but again very mild, and it's been manageable/not so bad that the anxiety has spiraled - mainly felt like acid reflux to me. The Lyme rash has gone, and I don't have the symptoms I did before treatment, so I have to go on the assumption it's worked! An unpleasant 3 weeks, but I've got it done, and you can too!"

For Bacterial Infection "Got a bacterial infection on my right tonsil and was prescribed to take amoxicillin 500 mg, 10 tablets, 3 a day. Need to be taken until finished. In total, I had to spend from Friday to Monday to finish the medication. I got no symptoms except fatigue on Friday. On Saturday, I got nausea, stomach ache, fatigue, sore muscles, heart palpitations, anxiety attack, and trouble sleeping. On Sunday, I got all of the symptoms mentioned plus a severe headache. On Monday, the headache was gone, but the rest of the symptoms stayed, but the infection is cured. It's been two days after finishing the medication, and the remaining symptoms are still hanging around. Cool med but has hellish side effects."

For Dental Abscess "If you end up with broken wisdom teeth, or any other tooth for that matter, please take action immediately and see a dentist, as this may help prevent an infection from starting in the first place. A dental abscess is potentially life-threatening, and I know this to be true because as soon as the infection kicked in, my heart rate went up, my breathing became labored, amongst a few other issues such as diarrhea. I am always available for work, except this time. The pain was unbearable, now I am taking 500mg of amoxicillin twice a day and am only on day one but the pain has subsided quite a bit already. It did manage to upset my stomach, however, that’s probably because I haven’t been able to eat for the last few days. This is not my first time on this course of antibiotics, so I feel I am still able to give an accurate review. It will help if you follow the dosage instructions."

For Bacterial Infection "My tooth wasn't painful when I started this, but after 4 days in, I started having diarrhea. I took the last pill yesterday, had to go 3 times and 2 times today, also had a stomach ache. I'm hoping it will go away."

For Middle Ear Infections "I had a sudden, painful ear infection in my left ear. Doctor prescribed a round of 500 mg Amoxicillin for 10 days. (AMOX 500) by Sandoz at a dose of 2 pills every day. No effect until the 3rd day when finally the pain went away. I still have some fluid pressure buildup behind the left eardrum (tympanic membrane), but the pain is much less. Stopped taking Advil (ibuprofen) after the 4th day of treatment. Stomach was a little grumbling and uncomfortable, but not severe. Taking yogurt and probiotics each day to help with stomach problems. Had a few big zits (acne pimples) erupting on my face (not severe). Going to continue treatment and finish the full course of 10 days as instructed by the tele doctor. Pleased with results because the earache pain from the ear infection is finally gone, and side effects were not too severe. It was worth the peace of mind knowing that my ear infection is under control and helping my body to heal itself. Would recommend Sandoz Amox 500 for Acute Otitis Media (AOM) due to bacterial infection."

For Sinusitis "I took this medication, amoxicillin, for a sinus infection/tooth infection after a root canal. I was so extremely nervous about taking it at first. I am allergic to sulfa. I am also allergic to Ceftin. However, as I sit there with my EpiPen at six in the morning, scared to death, I had no reaction. This medicine may have saved my life. Even though they removed the infected nerve in my tooth, I still had traces of bacteria and a severe sinus infection. I noticed no major side effects with this medicine other than an upset stomach. Drink with plenty of water and eat a heavy breakfast or meal. The medicine made me hungry. It also made me very hyper but productive. I was able to get housework done because I was not in pain. I worked better with my co-workers. This tooth/sinus infection was really bad - a bad tooth infection can take you out of this world. I took 875 mg twice a day for two weeks. Hope this helps!"

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "This was for a prophylactic dose to protect hip replacements. The one and only time I did take only one dose, I had severe stomach cramps, multiple bouts of diarrhea about 12 hours after taking the med. I had also tried Clindamycin, but after taking it for many years each time I needed dental work, I ended up getting a rash over my neck and chest. The next time I had a dental appointment, my doc prescribed Cipro, from which I had no side effects after one dose. Around that time, friends began posting a lot of negative side effects from Cipro on Facebook. I demanded a change and was given Amoxicillin. The first dose caused diarrhea, but with the second one came severe cramps and diarrhea two days post-ingestion. Several days later, I experienced respiratory problems. Wish I knew if it was the Amoxicillin."

For Bacterial Infection "I'll start off by saying, I have a severe phobia of anything to do with vomit. This is relevant because I EXTENSIVELY research anything I have to put into my body, and I'll be honest, these reviews put me off taking my amoxicillin for a few days. I had a tooth infection, so I had to take a 500 mg pill every 8 hours for 7 days. To prepare myself, I bought some antibiotics, 4% fat cottage cheese, and yogurt. Two hours after each antibiotic, I took one probiotic pill. I experienced constipation and stomach cramps for one night. As someone who turns into a GIANT baby whenever they have any kind of tummy issues, I can honestly say it was bearable. Please don't take in all the negative reviews you read and be scared like I was. This antibiotic is very common, and so many people use it every single day. People tend to leave reviews more often if they're negative. That's why I'm writing this out! Have a great day, everyone!"
