For Bacterial Infection "Taking amoxicillin for a tooth infection, the first day of taking it was horrible. The tooth hurt more than it did before I started, but I think that was the drug doing its job trying to fight off the infection. Second day, same situation, still more pain. The third day was great, finally no more pain from the toothache! Pain-free. Only thing is I woke up with swollen gums. Side effects from this drug are hard to bear, especially for me since I work 9-9. I was very tired on a daily basis, my body was weak, stomach pain, woke up in the middle of the night not being able to sleep. I mean, side effects were horrible, but I only had to take this drug for 7 days until I was able to get the tooth pulled. Thank God."

For Dental Abscess "Got put on amoxicillin liquid suspension for 5 days to clear up a dental abscess. Whole right side of face is swollen. After 5 days, the swelling is the same, no results at all. Lost 3 days' money so far because I'm missing work due to the pain. Have booked another dentist appointment for the morning to hopefully get put on some stronger antibiotics or get something done to this horrible abscess. Never felt so run down in my life. I have a toddler, and I would gladly choose the pain over having more children than having this dental pain."

For Dental Abscess "It was a very helpful medication to relieve my symptoms of my dental abscess. However, I'm experiencing some swelling of my upper lip, which I'm brushing aside given that the abscess is right under there. No other side effects were noticed. The abscess seems to be going away a bit, still swollen but only on my 3rd dose out of 15. It's working nicely, and yet again, very useful medicine."

For Dental Abscess "Woke up to entire left side swollen the size of a basketball. Went to the ER, and they gave me two shots of a strong antibiotic. The dr prescribed 500 mg Amoxicillin and Metronidazole three times a day. I’ve been on both for four days, and although a lot of the swelling has gone down, it hasn’t at the site of the tooth that is causing the abscess. It’s still just as bad, and the only thing that has worked for the pain is ice packs applied constantly to the site of swelling. Thank goodness for ice packs. They are the only reason I’ve been able to sleep. Hopefully, the antibiotics will work better over the next few days, or it’s back to the ER, as it will be four more days before the dentist's office opens."

For Dental Abscess "So I’ve been miserable the whole month because I got an extremely painful infection around the gums of one of my bottom wisdom teeth molars because it didn’t erupt fully. WORST PAIN OF MY LIFE! I had to get emergency surgery since antibiotics and salt rinses weren’t resolving the issue. Got all four teeth. Doc prescribed me ibuprofen and amoxicillin so the infection wouldn’t come back. I had to be driven to the hospital by ambulance after I finished the round of amoxicillin the day before. Had an epipen administered into me and IVs of steroids and Benadryl while my heart was being monitored. I have bad hives all over my body. My face swelled, throat was closing up. I went into anaphylactic shock because of this med. I'm allergic to it and almost died. Just beware because there are quite a few people that can be allergic to this family of drugs, so monitor yourself carefully. It was a terrifying experience for me."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a throat infection with white dots and pus at the back of my throat. It was even hard to swallow my own saliva. I went to after hours and was prescribed this drug. After 5 days, I noticed improvement. It wasn't as painful anymore. So it did work. I was to take this medication for 10 days, but on the 8th day, I was experiencing side effects such as hives all over my cheeks and chest. As well as swelling underneath my tongue."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "My daughter was given this by her pediatrician for strep and tonsillitis. It's day three, and she still coughs at night, and the marbling on her tonsils is still not gone or the swelling. Most of the redness is gone, but the bumps in the back of the throat are still there too."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "Strep was diagnosed on the 3rd day, and the 1st dose of Amoxicillin cleared all the pus. Also had a steroid shot for swelling, but 1 Amox pill, and I was 75% back to normal. I never take antibiotics EVER, so I think that really helped the drug kick ultimate germ ass."

For Dental Abscess "I had some irritation under my dental implant and had to have it cleaned. The periodontist prescribed amoxicillin to control any infection. It gave me chemical burns all over. It was smooth, red, inflamed, swollen, and making me miserable! By process of elimination, over the course of a miserable week, I eliminated the amoxicillin and started improving. I had taken amoxicillin many times before in my 66 years, and this was the first time I had a reaction like this."

For Dental Abscess "I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed, plus 4 second molars (two on top and two on the bottom). Doc prescribed this antibiotic with T3. Antibiotics caused my entire body to be itchy. Each time right after taking the antibiotic, I get chills and then fever-like symptoms...dizziness, shakes, and nausea, and very disoriented. Also caused hiccups every time afterward. Goes away, but the itching doesn't. The left side of my face is more swollen than the right one. It's day two. Was told it would be much worse at day 3. Not liking this antibiotic at all. But because I had so many teeth removed at once, I have to stick with it and rinsing with salt water in order to avoid infection."

For Bacterial Infection "I was put on amoxicillin yesterday. I have had what we believe is a virus for a week, but it spread to my chest and a secondary bacterial infection formed. I couldn't breathe easily, especially in my right bronchial area, there was a burning sensation and my heart rate was higher than normal, so I couldn't sleep easily. In the past 24 hours, I've had 3 pills, and the burning sensation is nearly gone. I had an excellent night's sleep. However, tonight the inside of my lips began to swell. I have no known allergies and have taken amoxicillin before. Luckily, the swelling seems to have stopped without them getting noticeably large, so I'm going to go to sleep and see how it is tomorrow. I'm tempted to try continuing the course for the remaining 4 days because it's really helped, but I know it's said if you get swelling, that's considered a severe reaction and to discontinue. Curious what others would advise having had a similar reaction."
