"I've been taking amoxicillin for my wisdom teeth removal for five days now, I was only taking two a day (mainly because I wake up late), so I have some leftover. I'm very tempted to not take the rest as it's caused me severe cramps in my abdomen that come and go within seconds of each other. It's also made me constipated. I've been constipated for four days now, with the cramps still continuing. Wouldn't recommend this pain to anyone."

"Amoxicillin worked the first time I had this dental infection. The infection has come back 3 times now, and amoxicillin, for me, is pointless, but of course, the doctors don't listen or think I'm exaggerating."

"My mam hasn't eaten for the last five days because of the pain in her mouth. Three days ago, we went to the A&E, and the doctor said that these antibiotics should help. They didn't. She is still taking them, hoping for the best. Every day, she looks weaker and has barely moved out of bed for the past two days. I am absolutely losing my mind, and I'm terrified of what will happen to her. I've tried everything, but she can't eat at all because of the extreme amount of pain it causes her. Even the private dentist said she can't do anything and my mam should get better the same day - that was two days ago. If anyone at all has any advice, please, please give it to me. I have to take care of my three younger siblings, which doesn't bother me, but seeing my mam in this state absolutely breaks my heart and terrifies me. I searched up what could happen to her, and apparently, your body slowly shuts down after five days of not eating."

"This drug was prescribed by my dentist. I got a root canal, and he said it was to get rid of the bacteria. The first few days, I had a migraine and nausea. I also got a yeast infection. I finished the treatment, but I would not take this again unless I really had to."

"So I’ve been miserable the whole month because I got an extremely painful infection around the gums of one of my bottom wisdom teeth molars because it didn’t erupt fully. WORST PAIN OF MY LIFE! I had to get emergency surgery since antibiotics and salt rinses weren’t resolving the issue. Got all four teeth. Doc prescribed me ibuprofen and amoxicillin so the infection wouldn’t come back. I had to be driven to the hospital by ambulance after I finished the round of amoxicillin the day before. Had an epipen administered into me and IVs of steroids and Benadryl while my heart was being monitored. I have bad hives all over my body. My face swelled, throat was closing up. I went into anaphylactic shock because of this med. I'm allergic to it and almost died. Just beware because there are quite a few people that can be allergic to this family of drugs, so monitor yourself carefully. It was a terrifying experience for me."

"Cured the pain for my root canal and kept it from infection. However, that fact aside, guess what? I then developed a yeast infection. Ladies, it’s truly an unfair world for us. Most antibiotics cause yeast infections because they kill off our good bacteria. So just be cautious and keep a Monistat nearby if you’re a busy woman and need to get rid of that icky yeast infection fast while taking these antibiotics."

"I have 4 impacted teeth in my jaw, and I've been experiencing pain. Along with a painkiller, a doctor prescribed me amoxicillin as a precaution until I speak to the oral surgeon. I feel like the jaw pain may have eased, but I've also got new problems like headache, intestinal and stomach pain, bloating, shakiness, and anxiety I can only contribute to the side effects of amoxicillin."

"Had slight toothache for a couple of weeks that gradually got worse. Eventually, it was keeping me awake most of the night. Went to the dentist on Monday, where they diagnosed an infection/abscess due to a previous filling that was quite deep. Prescribed amoxicillin, but gradually over the next few days, the pain got even worse, almost unbearable. The sleepless nights got worse. Ended up ringing my dentist back on Thursday and told them that I couldn’t take the pain anymore. Six hours later, I was in the dentist getting the tooth pulled. Last time I had an infection in my wisdom tooth, amoxicillin cleared it pretty quickly, but this time, four days in, the symptoms were just increasing. It’s mentioned in here already, but if anyone is going through intense pain from a tooth abscess, try cold/ice water. Have a drink of it and hold it in your mouth where the tooth is. Gave me some temporary relief for a little bit."

"If you end up with broken wisdom teeth, or any other tooth for that matter, please take action immediately and see a dentist, as this may help prevent an infection from starting in the first place. A dental abscess is potentially life-threatening, and I know this to be true because as soon as the infection kicked in, my heart rate went up, my breathing became labored, amongst a few other issues such as diarrhea. I am always available for work, except this time. The pain was unbearable, now I am taking 500mg of amoxicillin twice a day and am only on day one but the pain has subsided quite a bit already. It did manage to upset my stomach, however, that’s probably because I haven’t been able to eat for the last few days. This is not my first time on this course of antibiotics, so I feel I am still able to give an accurate review. It will help if you follow the dosage instructions."

"This med will work for any tooth infection, but it needs company: Flagyl 500 mg to kill the infection. I tried it alone, and it doesn't work. Then when the dentist prescribed Flagyl pills 500 mg with it (in my country, not here in the U.S.), it worked perfectly. I feel safe with amoxicillin."

"I’ve had bad teeth all my life. I’m terrified of dentists but found a good one that I trust. I had a tooth break where I had a bad cavity... it’s at the nerve, yet I don’t feel anything. When taking X-rays, the dentist noticed an abscess on another tooth. No pain. I have a compromised immune system and need a few teeth pulled. The dentist put me on amoxicillin 500 mg 3 times a day for 7 days. Day 1, after 2 doses, I felt very tired and no energy. I had run low-grade fevers for a few weeks, and after 5 doses, I still have a slight fever. Hopefully, things start to improve. When they do, I’ll change the review."

"This medication is an 8/10 for me. It worked wonders. I was in excruciating pain as I had an abscess in a tooth caused by a cavity that needed a root canal. It took 3 pills to finally have some relief. My prescription was taken 3 times a day for 7 days. The only bad thing about amoxicillin is the extreme sickness it causes most people. It made me extremely nauseous even when I ate it with food and unfortunately gave me some bowel problems too. That may be because I’m 110 pounds at 5’4" and take it 3 times a day though. But from what I’ve heard, it’s a pretty worldwide experience."

"Many here have stated that because of Covid-19, they have been refused access to a dentist. I can confirm that even if one gets an emergency appointment, the dentist will not carry out any kind of surgery, even fillings. My dentist explained that the surgery would have to be cleaned for half an hour if he did fillings. He tapped my teeth, took X-rays, and also gave me a prescription for antibiotics. I advise anyone suffering from pain and unable to see a dentist to go to A & E. Do not suffer; you probably, like me, spent your whole life paying for the NHS; use it!"

"I described pain and hypersensitivity to temperature to my dentist of teeth on the left side. The dentist could not find anything visually or by X-rays. I asked for an antibiotic in case of infection after Googling my symptoms, and the dentist wrote a script for penicillin VK. The pain went away within the 7-day course of treatment, but of course, came back in a month. I went to an endodontist who confirmed infection and prescribed amoxicillin (3X 500 mg/day for 6 days). The pain subsided after 24 hours, nearly gone after 3 days, and then I am going in for a root canal. As others have advised, complete the entire course of treatment. But you also have to treat the underlying cause (tooth rot) to solve the problem."

"Worked perfectly for a dental abscess! I was in 10/10 pain from a tooth. The sort of pain you start to have dark thoughts about at 3 AM. Determined as a horrid abscess, and the dentist gave me a prescription for amoxicillin. I was still in agonizing pain after the first pill and of the mind that this wasn’t going to work. However, within 20 minutes of taking the second pill, my pain had significantly reduced. Within 24 hours, the pain had disappeared. I’m now on pill 6 and, although the tooth feels a little tender now and again, it is an absolutely breeze to cope with compared to that pain I went through this last week. I couldn’t eat or drink anything before I got these pills - the temperature of what I consumed brought on agonizing pain. Back to drinking freezing cold drinks without issue!"

"Now on day 3, and the pain is the worst it’s ever been. Luckily, I have an appointment at 9 a.m. in the morning to remove the tooth, only 16 hours to wait. Lol. For me, after 3 days, amoxicillin has done nothing except increase the pain."

"On Fri 06/12/2019, I went to see my dentist and needed a root canal fixed. I was in a lot of pain. She prescribed me Amoxicillin along with pain relief pills. I was told to take 2 of each the first time (which I did and had a big sleep). At that time, I thought it had worked really fast. But the pain came back, if anything, just as bad. It is now Sunday morning, and I still can't sleep properly due to the pain. I still have to wait until Monday at 5 pm to have my root canal fixed. So for me, so far, I think the drug is rubbish! I would not recommend it at all. I am trying to remain hopeful, as I have seen others say 'it works, but it works slow.' I'm praying that's the case. Otherwise, I will be ringing my dentist first thing Monday morning and complaining and getting something that actually works!"

"I had some irritation under my dental implant and had to have it cleaned. The periodontist prescribed amoxicillin to control any infection. It gave me chemical burns all over. It was smooth, red, inflamed, swollen, and making me miserable! By process of elimination, over the course of a miserable week, I eliminated the amoxicillin and started improving. I had taken amoxicillin many times before in my 66 years, and this was the first time I had a reaction like this."

"Started taking on Wednesday for mild tooth infection with no symptoms. By Thursday, I had a severe headache, extreme fatigue, and fever. Mood was affected, I’ve been very moody, almost a pent-up angry feeling. Fever and headache continued until Monday when I just decided to quit the antibiotic (5 days with fever). Dentist refused to change antibiotics. Better now."

"Ngl (not gonna lie), this does work. I remember back in September I took amoxicillin because I was having a really bad toothache, so I went to the dentist, and they prescribed me liquid Motrin and amoxicillin. I took it and had the best night's sleep. I took it again for the first week, no pain. See where I messed up at is I didn’t finish the course because the pain did not come back. Well, I should’ve, I guess, because I’m here now, because I just got prescribed again for the same thing and gone to make sure I take it till the course is finished ✔️. If you smoke weed or cigarettes, don't, to be honest, because it’s gonna make your tooth hurt more and stop it from healing as well. Honestly, I didn’t like the feeling it was giving me while smoking weed."

"Got a prescription of amoxicillin 250 mg x 4 days for dental abscess, took for a week. My abscess got worse, more swollen in gum area, experienced sickness, diarrhea for 4 days, tiredness, and headache. I wouldn't recommend for tooth infection as I had to have a second lot of antibiotics - metronidazole for a week. Hopefully this goes."

"Dental abscess in lockdown. I took amoxicillin, and dental pain slowly went over the year but caused pain in neck, jaw, arm. One year later, dentist prescribed amoxicillin for root canal, and hey presto, pain in neck, jaw, arm disappeared after the fourth tablet. Unfortunately, upon this work, taking a two weeks, pain reappeared in neck, jaw, arm, and I woke up with 'poison' pains in elbows, knees, underarms, heart, wrists, hips, groin, feet, which worked off over each day. Then added headache in sinuses and brain for three weeks so far. Doctor stumped and refused to prescribe antibiotics twice before. Now I have a one-week dose of 250 mg from me insisting third time this is a bacterial infection from my abscess and I don't want physio. I've searched up dental abscess to bacteremia to septic arthritis and lymph nodes. Amoxicillin worked 100% in lockdown and from the dentist, so I think it will work again."

"My husband has been given Amoxicillin 500 mg x 3 daily for a bad tooth and is now on day 4 of them, but he is still in very bad pain with this problem. He has also taken 1 daily of Paracetamol 500 mg, as these Amoxicillin after 4 days do not seem to have helped him. He can't eat without pain and has tried the other side to eat, but still no difference. Could anyone please tell me what he could do, as I just cannot bear to see him suffer like this? It is so very hard to get an appointment, as all the NHS dentists are not taking on new patients due to this virus. Should he call the dentist he did see or go to our nearest hospital dentist? Please could someone help me with this, please? What would you do?"

"This drug has helped a lot in healing my dental issues, but at the same time, it's really bad on my gut wellbeing. Am experiencing harsh diarrhea, stomach pain, urinary tract infections. I really don't like taking it. I have a very sensitive stomach that reacts to any change severely. I have to take this course of prescription till it's finished-what a nightmare! Does anyone have tips to help me with alleviating the discomfort and pain? Please do share."
