"On vacation, and had a UTI! I was given nitrofurontoin and they sent out for culture. Finished meds, then got a call saying the bacteria was protius morabulus which is another common bacteria but the ntrofurantoin doesn't kill it. So I needed to start another antibiotic that responds better. I can't take bactrim or cipro, so she prescribed amoxoxicillin-clav. Took with a large dinner last night, but then 6 hrs later, sick feeling and nauseous!! Threw up 2x which is very rare for me. No way, not taking these pills!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "This is a strong antibiotic and it’s horrible on the stomach.. after only a couple of hours, my entire stomach was hurting very badly with severe diarrhea and anxiety. I switched to Keflex hoping it’s better"

"I was prescribed amoxicillin/clavulanate 500mg daily for 10 days for my UTI. Got heart palpitations and blood pressure was high. Didn’t realize it was the antibiotic causing this until until I finished it. I finished the last two pills and a few days later no more palpitations and pressure normal. The UTI cleared up."

"Went to a doctors and was initially prescribed Trimethoprim for a UTI but following a 3 day course developed a temperature and vomiting so was admitted to hospital and they prescribed me Amoxiclav 3 times a day for 10 days. Absolutely vile stuff, think out of the 8 tablets I vomited violently after 5 and the other 3 I was sat there clutching a sick bowl feeling like I was going to vomit for hours. I've spoke to my doctor and now been changed to Ciprofloxacin so fingers crossed I have more luck on this one. But would not recommend Amoxiclav one bit, made me feel 400 times worse than I already did."

"After taking this for 3 days for a UTI infection, my vision was so blurry I could hardly read. I called the doctor and he changed my medication and in a day the blurriness went away. I don't know if the medication works, but it scared me that my vision was going and stopped it right away."

"I am on day 8 and I feel fantastic. I had a silent uti . Pyuria. For 2 months. I thought I was dying because I felt terrible and was sleeping all the time. The amoxicillin/clav worked on day 1. I’m taking 875 mg twice a day for 10 days. Only had slightly loose stool this morning. I think I was dying before I started this medication. Feeling alive and my energy is back. I highly recommend this medication."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Ok. I thought I could alleviate the absolutely horrible side effects associated with this medication by avoiding the adverse drug interactions and making sure I took each dose on a full stomach, but no. This is the antibiotic is awful. The debilitating side effects that I have experienced beginning on Day 4 are unrelenting nausea, headache and body aches. I can work and function with the flu, but this is worse than the flu. This is my third time attempting to take this medicine. I’ll never try it again. Avoid at all costs!"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I’ve had to take this multiple times now for extended periods of time due to tick bites because I cannot tolerate doxycycline. It hurts my stomach and makes me nauseous, causes diarrhea but stay on top of the probiotic supplements and it will resolve shortly after your antibiotics are finished."

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "Well what can I do. When you have a UTI you just have to take these antibiotics. My culture came back and I have Proteus mirabilis. So I was prescribed Augmentin. I've been on it three days, side effects aren't too bad. These antibiotics are really bad on my stomach, but it's just something I have to tolerate otherwise I will only get sicker. Just remember never have your GP just throw ciprofloxin at without having a C&S test done! Other than that good luck. My flatulence smell worse than a barn yard."

"Had a uti for ten weeks, was given three lots of trimethoprim and one lot of macrobid, they didn’t clear the infection. I took the co amoxiclav and within four hours the awful burning was subsiding, after a weeks course I felt so much better, it cleared the UTI, there were no side effects whatsoever, I always took it with food and drank plenty of water, after suffering for such a long while it was a real life saver."

"This was my second antibiotic I was trying after having a UTI that did not go away with previous drug. I was prescribed once a day for 7 days. I immediately had relief after taking a dose or two. After a few days, I noticed an extreme sharp pain in my abdominal, where I had to hung over and put constant pressure for relief. This would go away for a few hours. By the 5th day, I was waking up crying and screaming in pain. I have never felt so much pain in my stomach before. Heating pads, pain meds, nothing would help.It was debilitating. I could not do anything. Couldn't eat, sleep, work, nothing. I will never ever try this drug again. It ruined my vacation to go to my friends wedding, where I had to go home after 20 minutes. The most extreme and worst pain I have ever experienced. I hope not everyone experiences this as me, as I would not wish it on anyone."

It is making me want to cry it is so awful. I can't drink water, I already threw up for about 13 minutes and my stomach is hurting like no other. DO NOT TAKE THIS ... TORTURE"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "I took augmentin for prostatitis since I had faecalis bacterial infection. I took it for 21 days then decided to stop because of the tinnitus that started on day 10. I stopped taking it day 21 hoping it goes away I do not recommended this. I took this to try to avoid cipro and fluoroquines only to get a side effect from this"

"I started taking this antibiotic amoxicillin with clavulanate on Tuesday, 10 Dec, I have been having a nagging ear ache. When I went to see the doctor she said it was most probably a throat problem. By Thursday the 12th my throat was sore and I had problems eating, on Friday the problem was getting worse and today Saturday the 14th I woke up to a left ear with blisters that are oozing, a tongue coated with canker sores, swollen glands, stiff joints. I spent a greater part of the day in bed. Tomorrow morning I am off to the emergency rooms. Instead of feeling better I feel awful and very sick."

"Overall bad feeling after first day. Did not help even took 2 courses Got tinnitus and renal colics after Amoxiclav. I still have tinnitus a few months later. Don't recommend Probably better to have amoxicillin without clavulanate acid. Tried doxycycline and bactrim earlier - much better! And attention, I tried Levofloxacin as well. Never take Levofloxacin and never fluroquinolones. Side effects - depressive disorder, neuropathy, pain, erectile dysfunction etc So, better to take tetracyclines, bactrim probably"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "It is an ok drug for UTI was better by day three. I couldnt take the side effects though. A headache that won't go away and started mild diarrhea. The weird part is the anxiety I had with it. Im hoping that side effect goes away. I've been taking a probiotic with it and eating when I do take it. It seems to help. I'd say give it a go see if it works if it doesn't then find something else."

"I took amox/clav for three days, then spent the next ten days with a rash over every single inch of my body that itched 24 hours a day. Got rid of the UTI, but I couldn't leave the house for over a week - couldn't stand clothes on my skin. The only thing that helped was scalding water, so I showered several times a day when the Benadryl would wear off. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!"

Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate) "UTI symptoms were alleviated after day 1 together with fever. I woke up on day 2 feeling fine, started feeling worse again after 1st dosage in the morning. TAKE WITH FOOD! What I noticed is that when the antibiotics stays in my system I feel worse, e.g I take it every 12hrs, so by the 8th hour I feel better and fine until I take it 4 hours later. Bloated stomach and intestines, always passing gas, luckily no diarrhea yet. Will remember to update this review hopefully by the time I finish the 5 days in 2 more days."

"I was prescribed this drug after normal amoxicillin wasn't really working, and I kept having that horrible burning/pressure feeling in my lower abdomen, indicative of a water infection. I was a bit worried after reading reviews, as there is so much scare mongering going on with so many online reviews for meds, but I took my first dose yesterday afternoon. Within a few hours, I had mild diarrhea, low level nausea, and pains in my upper belly. But I took a cyclizine tablet for the nausea, and it worked, and I took paracetamol for the stomach pain, and that worked, so I was just left with a mild loose stomach. And this drug also knocks out your infection, least it seems, as that horrible pain/burning/pressure in my lower abdomen is gone after just one day. I've also noticed a few palpitations, but not sure if that's the drug or not. But overall, so far, this drug is nothing to worry about, and I'm a baby about taking new meds. So don't let the horror story reviews scare you."

"I was prescribed Amoxicillin 875mg and all I can say is it made the bacteria worse. It spread further up and when checked back with my urologist, she looked me in the face and told me that the discharge I’m seeing come out is supposed to happen because it’s pushing it out. After finishing said medication, my UTI is even worse than before."
