Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Had my first Reclast IV on Thursday morning. After a couple of hours, started hurting all over and feeling terrible. By evening, started running a fever of 100 - 101, had chills, nausea, pain all over, and couldn't get out of bed until Saturday evening. Took Tylenol every 4 hours. On Sunday, still did not feel a lot better, but fever was getting better. Hope this gets better really soon."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "Had the Reclast infusion on November 16, 2019. Seemed fine after the infusion, but the next day woke up with every joint hurting. Couldn't hardly stay awake all day. Severe chills and then a 100.5 fever. Took Tylenol and alternated with Ibuprofen. Nauseated and no desire to eat. Had to force myself to drink. Day 3 started with rosy cheeks and still have them on day 4. Looks like a butterfly lupus rash. Headache for about 24 hours. Neck is still a little sore, but luckily the hips don't hurt as bad. Also had stomach pain and seem very bloated. I don't think I will do this again. Just hope no other symptoms come along as some of these posts talk about."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "The WORST side effects - one week later, still suffering from bone pain. The first night after IV - all side effects hit at once - fever, chills, nausea, dizziness, and the worst bone pain - it was even painful to take a deep breath or to yawn. I do not know how this passed FDA approval for humans. Totally unprepared for the horrendous side effects with no guarantee that it will be helpful for bone density. It was the worst experience, and I would totally advise against taking this medication. If there was an option to give less than '1,' I would do so."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Had the infusion - 15 minutes - 4 days ago. On the day, felt fine. The next day, thought I was dying, chills, fever, nausea, whole body/bones/joints extremely painful. Woke up every hour and had to drink water. Day 3, felt a lot better and managed to go to work. Day 4, I feel fine. Not sure how effective it will be, will have to have a bone scan in a year's time!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 41, with Crohn's disease causing my lack of vitamin absorption. I had my monthly Entyvio infusion, and right after my first Reclast infusion just yesterday. I was just fine until about 5 hours after when I started having diarrhea. It later turned into severe watery diarrhea shooting out into my ostomy, chills, sweating, fever, aches, and weakness. I was told it may happen but was hoping not to me. If this helps me, a few days of this is worth it, and I will do it again. Like in Harry Potter, 'growing bones is a nasty business!' Lol"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I have severe arthritis anyway and have a lot of pain, but this was over the top. First day fine, but the next 4 days I was down with bad joint pain, back pain, chills. Not sure I am going to do it again. I have already had 3 breaks and cancer, so I don't know if that's an option for me."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "Less than 36 hrs after my first Reclast infusion, I began shivering violently for over 2 hrs. Then I spiked a temp of 102.7. Within 24 hrs, that had gone. Day 4 post-infusion, my left arm, wrist, and hand began to hurt. This was the arm I received the infusion in. Now it has been 8 days since the infusion, and each day the pain gets worse in my arm and hand. When I awaken, the entire area is swollen and so painful even a sheet touching my fingertips brings excruciating pain. 2 extra strength Tylenol lasts about one hour. 4 Ibuprofen lasts about the same. Aleve (Naproxen) will last about 6 hrs. 2 Tylenol #3 gives relief for about 2 hrs. The pain and swelling have traveled up my arm, into my upper arm above the elbow."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Reclast IV last week, and I had side effects of sore throat, chills, headache, fever, severe bone, joint, and muscle pain, in bed for the past 8 days. I originally was going to cancel the IV after reading all the side effects, but the nurse talked me into it. Never again! I can’t really rate the drug as it’s only been a week."

Zoledronic acid for Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "I have had three infusions (1 monthly) intravenously administered. No one advised that I should continue taking calcium supplements - good thing I asked! The first infusion led to three days of severe joint pain abating each day. The second infusion had lesser effects, and the third one lessened from the 2nd. Hydrate well before and after the injections. I've had transient chest pain, chills, side pain, episodes lasting for 1-2 minutes."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am a 56-year-old female with sudden onset of osteoporosis, meaning I had no previous knowledge I even had osteoporosis until I obtained a total of 6 disc compression fractures over 2 and 1/2 months in 2022. The head of the endocrinology department told me to get Reclast, told me I have nothing to worry about, so I did so. No one, including this doctor, gave me any info as to how to prepare properly, nor did anyone state side effects. Because I am not normally ill, it did not occur to me to Google Reclast or that there could be a potential problem. Oh my God, what a nightmare! Within 6 hours, I had severe bone pain, a screaming headache, rolling cramps from my toes to the top of my head non-stop for 2 full days, and I became instantly so weak I couldn't lift my arm to cover myself with a blanket. When I thought the worst was over, suddenly I was hit with severe flu-like symptoms, chills, vomiting, all for 8 days. I literally felt like I was dying. Will NEVER do it again. The doctor thinks I'm crazy. She should be sued for malpractice!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Had my first Reclast Nov. 2020 at 75 years old. The rheumatologist I saw said nothing about side effects. Never told me to prep, i.e., drink lots of water, etc. He didn't tell me the name of the drug, and I didn't ask, which was my fault. Also, I didn't ask about side effects. The only reason I know it was Reclast is because the technician showed me the box. That night I woke with chills and terrible pain. I thought I had COVID. When I checked the side effects of Reclast (something I should have done before I had this poison put in my system), I saw chills and aches were side effects, along with insomnia. I suffer from recurring bouts of insomnia. Had I known that side effect alone, I wouldn't have gotten the poison. I barely slept for 3 days. The muscle aches lasted over 2 weeks. Now, months later, I can't sleep without taking Trazodone. Never, ever will I get this again."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I am on day seven post-Reclast infusion. I’m still experiencing flu-like symptoms. I woke up in the middle of the night after I got the infusion… I was so cold and chilled, nauseous, and my muscles and joints hurt everywhere. It also made me constipated. I will never take this awful drug ever again!"

Zoledronic acid for Hypercalcemia of Malignancy "Went the day before Thanksgiving for my regular shots for my neuroendocrine tumors (NETs)/carcinoid syndrome with mets to liver. Nurse said a 'calcium drip' had been ordered. I figured it was a type of vitamin, although the nurse said some people get mild flu symptoms. I left 40 mins later, went home to a houseful of guests. (I'm the cook for record in our family) About 10:00 that night I felt like a ton of bricks had hit me! The chills, uncontrollable shaking, and violent vomiting began. Every bone and joint in my body ached. I'm now 4 days past treatment and I'm still just 'off.' I'm having trouble searching for words, forgetful, & inexplicably depressed. (sobbing for no reason?) I, too, like the previous post, am furious with my doctor. NEVER AGAIN."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I had my first Reclast infusion on 4/8/21. I had been on Evenity (romosozumab-aqqg) for the previous year with no side effects and with significant improvement in my bone density. My endocrinologist wanted to seal the increased bone density in with a Reclast infusion. I drank lots of water and took calcium and vitamins D and K. On the 6th day after the infusion, I was off my water and vitamins. That night, I had a headache, swollen, painful joints in my hands and wrists. My left wrist and right thumb joint were swollen, painful, and red. I had chills and a very stiff neck. I definitely started the water and supplements again! These symptoms, except for the chills (only one episode), took about 12 days to resolve. Finally feeling like myself again and am on the other side of it. Not sure if I will take another Reclast infusion."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "Cancelled Reclast infusion 3 months ago after seeing many negative and alarming reviews. PCP changed my decision by informing me of the high percentage of possible fractures. Had 1st Reclast infusion a few days ago. I took a couple of Tylenol and drank a bottle of water. After arriving at a clinic, my vitals were taken, I.V. line started, and the infusion given. I arrived and left in less than an hour. Going home, I drank more water and had a couple more Tylenol. During the next few hours, I did mental body scans looking for pain, muscle cramps, aching bones, chills, or nausea. I found nothing. And I've continued with no difficulties. No discomfort of any kind. I experienced no side effects of any kind from the Reclast infusion. I'm 70 years old and shall continue to ride horses and have no fear of falling. Hopefully, my next year dexascan will show improvement."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "Day 1 was wrought with fever and chills, followed by excruciating back pain and chest pain. Had to be rushed to ER. Day 2 and Day 3 - same story. No warning, despite repeatedly asking if there would be side effects. Really hoping it gets better."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 54 years old, a breast cancer survivor, and Reclast knocked me on my butt. Had it Friday afternoon, and by the evening, I had a 103°F fever, chills, and the worst bone pain I have ever experienced. It is now Thursday of the following week, and I'm waking to swollen joints and can barely walk or get ready for work. The fatigue is insane. I'm praying this helps my bone density because I am second-guessing if I can do this again."

Zoledronic acid for Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "I had Zometa for the first time 5 days ago. Had experienced chills on the 2nd night, weakness, and body aches all over. Then on the 5th night, had chills again, weakness, and body aches. Tylenol alternate with Advil helped, but I will never have this medication again. I have no problem with chemo, only this medication. (I have mild osteoporosis and breast cancer.)"

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "Wednesday, I had a zoledronic acid infusion. That night, I had a hundred and two fever and chills, and everything ached from my bones to my muscles. By Friday morning, I was having seizures on the floor of my kitchen. I woke up in time to watch my body flopping around like a fish! It soon stopped, and I got up off the floor and walked to my husband's condo, which is three steps away. I told him I didn't feel very well and immediately did a face-plant in his dining room! I hate this stuff, my jaw is locked and my eyes are fuzzy off and on! Time will tell what other damage will have been done..."

Zoledronic acid for Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "My oncologist, for some reason, changed my medication from Exgiva to this medication. I have been having the worst side effects ever. I have bone pain, stomach pain, fever, and chills. I am on the 5th day, and I’m still experiencing chills and fever. I would never take this medication again. I just wonder how long this is going to last. If I ever get better."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I am taking this drug to help my bones because of the drug letrozole I am on. Have stage 1 breast cancer with radiation and partial mastectomy. Very small tumor removed. No lymph node involvement. This drug made me so sick. 102 fever, chills, and depression. When does the depression go away? Miserable."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I, too, am a 'victim' of zoledronic infusion. I had been taking Prolia for 3-1/2 years. I went in for a scheduled Prolia injection. I had a scheduled Dexa scan prior. The report showed a bone density increase of 6.8%. The doctor said 'good,' 'but we are not doing Prolia today. We are going to do something better than Prolia.' He said it is an infusion, better than Prolia. He said 'sometimes' insurance does not want to pay for Prolia because it is expensive. He told me nothing about side effects. He said, 'nothing to it, you come in, sit in the chair, it takes about 15 minutes, you get up, walk out, you are fine. You come back in one year.' Everything he said was true until I got home. I started with flu-like symptoms which lasted for two days. The headache and chills went away, but I still suffer from horrible pain in my muscles and joints all over my body and occasional diarrhea. I went back to the doctor after two months of constant pain. He brushed me off, saying my pain could not be because of the injection."

For Osteoporosis "Took Reclast, which is the same thing. I will never take it again. I have never been so sick in all my life, my symptoms were off the charts, and I had a liver transplant. Literally, at one point, I didn’t think I was gonna make it through the night, that’s how bad it was. I had a fever of 103.9 and severe chills. I think I even blacked out at one point, and I couldn’t walk either, like some other people have said. I usually don't take any meds, I'm just fine. Maybe it was an allergic reaction, not sure, but I will never take it again."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Follow up on initial Reclast first taken 3/2022. I was never informed of any prep to do beforehand, I suffered violent, severe side effects for 8 days immediately after the Reclast infusion. I was so ill I was unable to call 911 and get myself to a hospital. I was completely incapacitated with severe bone pain, rolling head-to-toe cramps, extreme flu-like symptoms, chills, fevers, and a blinding headache that lasted for 8 days. Now, one year after, I am still experiencing severe and extreme bone pain that many times causes me to be unable to lift my arms and has impacted my quality of life. Additionally, I suffered another compression fracture with zero exertion in June of 2022. I also require several implants and refuse to potentially destroy my jaw. Reclast side effects outweigh any possible benefits. I will be 57 years old this year, and prior to 2022 had no knowledge I had osteoporosis. I pray I have no further issues!"
