"55-year-old with osteoporosis (genetic predisposition as well as early menopause). Had my first infusion yesterday. Did prep with lots of water and Tylenol (hence up peeing throughout the night). Today I am sore, stiff, have a headache, and fatigued. But all manageable with Tylenol and Advil (taken 2 hours apart). Deep breaths hurt and took an almost 3-hour nap today (at least during the pandemic I don’t have to work)."

"After being reassured by 2 physicians, one an MD, another oncologist: that this option for infusion would offset any negative side effects for the benefit I would receive. Couldn't have been more untrue in my case. After infusion, bedridden for 3 days with limited movement due to extremely painful joints. Been 8 days now, and I'm just now getting back on my feet but weak. Please get multiple opinions from all before considering this medication. Never again."

"Feb 7th update. I did my original post on Jan 30 under the same name, about having the Reclast infusion on Jan. 27, 2020. Just so you know how long the side effects for Reclast last, I am still having pain in my legs, blurred vision, some nausea, and headache, but able to get up and down the stairs now, eating a little bit better. Starting to feel a little better."

"Had my first infusion Nov 15, 2019. I started getting the flu-like symptoms about 8 hours later. Thought it was the end of me. I shook for 2 days with chills. Couldn’t pick my arm up to get the Tylenol off my nightstand. 5 hours later, I finally got them and every blanket I owned. It hurt so much. Then started with throwing up and diarrhea. It’s been 4 days, and I’m still in bed, beyond tired. Not sure how to rate the medicine because it hasn’t started to work yet. But the side effects are really bad. Make sure you have lots of water, Gatorade, and Tylenol or pain meds, you’ll need them."

"I have been in pain for over 6 months after Reclast. Picking up a tiny cup of water sends pain to my back. I am okay if resting. Pain in all joints and bones. I am 82. Never a bit of pain prior to this infusion. I have never fallen as an adult. I was never told by my doctor to drink water a day prior. I would like to join a lawsuit if there is one."

"Had the infusion twice. The only side effect the first time was a slight headache. The second time, no side effects at all. I highly recommend having this. Make sure you are well-hydrated the day of the procedure."

"I had my infusion on Friday. My doctor gave me Tylenol at that time and said take one twice a day for 3 days. On Sunday, I woke up with some leg muscle pain. I took 2 Tylenol and an Aleve later on in the morning. Felt fine all day and I resumed my gym workouts on Monday. This was a breeze."

"Had my infusion on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020. Was just tired and weak at first, then in the middle of the night, I had the most excruciating pain in my bones all night until morning. Doctor then gave me tramadol, which helped the pain, but the next day I vomited all day long. It’s been 4 days, and I’m nauseous, my head still hurts, have no strength to get out of bed or eat much."

"Follow up on initial Reclast first taken 3/2022. I was never informed of any prep to do beforehand, I suffered violent, severe side effects for 8 days immediately after the Reclast infusion. I was so ill I was unable to call 911 and get myself to a hospital. I was completely incapacitated with severe bone pain, rolling head-to-toe cramps, extreme flu-like symptoms, chills, fevers, and a blinding headache that lasted for 8 days. Now, one year after, I am still experiencing severe and extreme bone pain that many times causes me to be unable to lift my arms and has impacted my quality of life. Additionally, I suffered another compression fracture with zero exertion in June of 2022. I also require several implants and refuse to potentially destroy my jaw. Reclast side effects outweigh any possible benefits. I will be 57 years old this year, and prior to 2022 had no knowledge I had osteoporosis. I pray I have no further issues!"

"I recently turned 67 and had my second annual dose of Reclast five days ago. After the first infusion in 2022, I developed body aches and night chills for perhaps up to one week. My second infusion experience has been quite worse, although I read that it's uncommon to feel side effects after the second infusion. My symptoms began the evening of day 2, with mild head and neck achiness. By nighttime, I had severe flu-like chills and more severe aching radiating to my arms and shoulders. Day 3, aching in legs, calves, big toes, areas where I have mild arthritis in my joints, milder night chills. Day 4, yesterday, extreme aching, now upper-mid back on both sides, radiating through my breastbone, actual spasms. Excruciating to roll over at night in bed. Today is day 5, and upper back pain and spasms are only on the left side but quite painful. Still spasming. I've been taking Extra Strength Tylenol, but it is not really helping. I decided to discontinue Reclast in the future."

"I had the Reclast infusion. Not one side effect. Day before and day of and some the day after the infusion, I took Tylenol extra strength every 8 hours and drank lots of water. I believe this is the key to no side effects."

"Had my first Reclast infusion on Wed, Aug 26. My whole body hurt that night and the next morning. Could not walk, my sciatic nerve also kicked in. Today is Fri, Aug 28. Still have trouble walking and need assistance. Was not told about water or pain reliever before the infusion. Hoping this goes away soon. I'm 56 years old with a dex score of -34 in my L-1 through L-5 and borderline osteoporosis in my left femoral neck."

"I can't speak to its effectiveness as I had it infused only about 4 weeks ago, but the side effects mostly went away in about 1 week. What is left is skin irritations, general tightness of my body, and extra sweating. All seem to be going away soon. If it works, I will take it again."

"My first experience with Reclast infusion, I had major cold and flu symptoms, achy legs and lower back. By the 3rd day, I was feeling loads better until I drank wine that evening (with dinner). BIG mistake! Got really fluish/worse for the next 5 days. Only Dual Action Advil seemed to help the most. I did try Claritin. It didn't help until I had taken it the second time when able. Headache and chest congestion, stuffy and runny nose (weird) and sore jaw 4 days in. Awful, but my bone density test was so much improved, I decided it was worth it to go another round. The second infusion a year later, no side effects whatsoever. Made sure I was completely hydrated and drank NO alcohol. Just had 3rd infusion on Feb 4, 2025. So far, 11 1/2 hours later, I feel just fine. (2nd bone density test had shown I had gone from osteoporosis back to osteopenia. Not at as high a risk any longer."

"I took Reclast injections for 4 years. My doctor was unaware that Reclast could potentially cause jaw bone issues. Well, my dentist, in taking X-rays, found I had jaw osteoporosis as a result of taking Reclast injections. I took the injections because my family physician thought this would help me from going into osteoporosis. Instead, it took calcium from my jaw and put it in my other bones. Please know that while Reclast, which is a zoledronic acid, is a product of the bisphosphonate group. I am happy for those who benefited from the drug Reclast, but my experience didn't work out."

"Had my first Reclast IV on Thursday morning. After a couple of hours, started hurting all over and feeling terrible. By evening, started running a fever of 100 - 101, had chills, nausea, pain all over, and couldn't get out of bed until Saturday evening. Took Tylenol every 4 hours. On Sunday, still did not feel a lot better, but fever was getting better. Hope this gets better really soon."

"On 12/6/22, I received my first (and only) Zoledronic Acid Injection (Reclast) to prevent osteoporosis from coming back (currently osteopenia) after taking Prolia shots for 2 1/2 years. I don't know whether or not the Reclast injection worked to prevent osteoporosis yet because I'm not scheduled for a bone density test until June. What I do know is that I have been in chronic pain every day since that day! There was literally ZERO warning from my rheumatologist about potential side effects or things that it could possibly trigger. And I foolishly did not research it myself. Within 6 days of the injection, I was limping and in intense pain. They had me come in the next day. Long story short, it is their belief that the Reclast triggered Psoriatic Arthritis that was already in my body (never had it before, but I did have mild psoriasis). I've had 2 BAD flares since the original flare, been in PT, on multiple medicines. In pain every day of my life. NEVER AGAIN will I have Reclast!"

"I had the Reclast infusion on Thursday, and first my vein collapsed and fluid built under my skin. Perhaps a poor choice of veins. I am 68. My arm hurt the rest of that day, of course. Then the next two days, I have had the 'flu'-like symptoms (fever, muscle aches and pains, weakness). I am hoping this subsides soon. I have things to do, places to go, people to see. Ha, the jury is out as to whether or not I would take it again."

"I had a Reclast infusion last Thursday and felt fine the rest of the day. I was tired and went to bed, waking up with severe nausea and bone pain, which created anxiety on top of that. The pain was intense, and I felt like a truck had been dropped on me. This is day 3 after the infusion, and the pain has receded some. The doctor said to take ibuprofen and Tylenol. That didn't do it for me. I took Tramadol to get some pain relief. My doctor said I only had to have it once every 3 years, and that will be soon enough to decide if I want to do it again. Today I'm a little unhappy over how sick I was, and reading other comments, I hope I don't have residual effects."

"I have been reading the other comments about side effects that happen months later. I have been taking Reclast once a year since 2009, after my cancer treatments were over. I have never had any side effects or bad experiences with it. It's cool as heck to me. I will definitely continue to use it for as long as my oncologist sees it necessary."

"The WORST side effects - one week later, still suffering from bone pain. The first night after IV - all side effects hit at once - fever, chills, nausea, dizziness, and the worst bone pain - it was even painful to take a deep breath or to yawn. I do not know how this passed FDA approval for humans. Totally unprepared for the horrendous side effects with no guarantee that it will be helpful for bone density. It was the worst experience, and I would totally advise against taking this medication. If there was an option to give less than '1,' I would do so."

"I tried oral biphosphonate and experienced severe bone pain, nausea, and reflux. My doctor suggested Reclast. I had the infusion and within 6 hours experienced nausea and tiredness. I had taken the recommended Tylenol before and after. I went to bed and began to experience waves of severe rib pain from my back to front and vomiting. It was many times worse than childbirth. Luckily, I had an opiate pain reliever. That helped a lot. The feeling bad lasted for about 5 days, but the reflux stayed. Never again will I take this drug!!"

"My first IV treatment was given on a Friday morning. By that night, I was running a fever of 103. I had 4 heavy blankets piled on me. I took Tylenol and Ibuprofen, but nothing brought my fever down below 101. I was shaking to my bones. Then, I started feeling pain in every bone of my body. The pain was worst in my back and shoulders. Even on my fourth day, my shoulders and back are still very painful. All I was told about Reclast was to drink a lot of water and take Tylenol as needed. I even told my husband that he might have to bring me to the emergency room because I was deathly ill. I wish I would have read these comments before I was given this therapy. I felt like every bone in my body was being attacked by this drug. Thankfully, I'm done for a year."

"Second infusion four years apart. The first time, I experienced hard chills during the night. Vitamin D level was 40. This time, I had a low-grade fever for two days, followed by an outbreak of herpes simplex fever blisters on my face. Vitamin D level was 61."

"Had my infusion yesterday. I drank a few glasses of water in the morning and took an ibuprofen during the treatment. I had expected the '3 days of flu-like symptoms' and even scheduled sick time to be prepared. Zero side-effects, no aches or pains, nothing...but still taking the time off so I can have fun. My stats: 50, 100#, just finished 2 years of Forteo, I take 1200mg Calcium a day plus an Rx Vitamin D each month."
