For Bipolar Disorder "I'm on 60 mg twice a day. I have been on Geodon for about 2 weeks. I am 42 and just diagnosed with mixed mood bipolar. This medicine has done nothing to my mood but make it worse. I'm about ready to bite people's heads off. I am extremely agitated, with thoughts of rage running through my head more than not. I also sweat more and am paranoid a lot. I want to give it some time but don't know how long I can take these feelings."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been taking Geodon for about four weeks. Before that, I was on Quetiapine, which works well but gave me horrible weight gain (their paper says 10 pounds a year on average, and I gained 23 in 6 weeks! Still eating well too!) I have had minor side effects. When I first take it, it affects my concentration. I have a hard time driving, and specifically moving things, like looking at the road makes me sleepy. If I'm not driving (or looking at the road specifically), my tiredness seems to be much better. I have had some short-term memory problems, especially if I'm stressed at the same time. Other than that, this med has worked well for me and is keeping my weight down. Now I just have to exercise off the 23-pound belly and thighs the Quetiapine gave me."

For Bipolar Disorder "Geodon at 80 mg makes me dazed, confused, and dumb as a rock. I lost my job due to it (forgetfulness, can't concentrate). For Bipolar II and me, it's not a drug for me, but when I complain to the doctor that I want to come off Geodon, he increases it! I am in the process of changing doctors, but in the meantime, I am hostile and negative to the world, especially my partner... not good!"

For Bipolar Disorder "Geodon has been great for me. It balances out my moods. I'm weaning down off Lamictal because it just didn't do the trick. Geodon makes me feel more 'smooth,' I guess, not apathetic, but just my overall mood is on an even keel, without taking away from the creativity I like to display."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been taking Geodon for a little over a year, and I am constantly exhausted. Tired, no memory, no motivation, raw depression. I'm sure it works for some people, but me? I feel dead inside. So, do not recommend."

For Bipolar Disorder "Other than feeling numb on Geodon (partly I think my antidepressant too), I love it. I've been on Geodon for a little over a year. Honestly, I'll probably die taking this drug. It has saved me and brought me back to reality after a mania-induced psychosis a year and a half ago. I'm almost never paranoid anymore, I can function in my day-to-day life, I am stable. I've even been able to cut down dramatically on how much I take."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "This drug, Geodon, was amazing. I've felt the best I have ever felt mentally in 12 years. I was literally crying of happiness because I didn't think I could ever feel normal again, it was that good. But unfortunately, I got horrible akathisia (intense restlessness) and tapping of my foot that caused me to stop the drug. The foot tapping took 2 weeks to go away. I also would get watery diarrhea and episodes of overheating where I thought I had a fever, but my temperature was normal. I would also get intense dizziness if I took my dose late, and felt like I had to drop dead of sleep no matter where I was as soon as I took my dose. I wish I didn't have such bad physical side effects! This is the only thing that has worked for me so far."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Geodon is wonderful for me. For a very long time, my mind was cluttered with particular obsessions. I couldn't think straight. I've tried Luvox, Anafranil, and a few other augmenters, nothing worked. Now, I take a low dose of Geodon, 40 mg a day with 300 mg Luvox-and have success. It's not a total cure, but I would say symptoms are 70-80% better."

For Bipolar Disorder "Geodon causes horrible nausea and working memory problems. I can't remember what I'm supposed to be doing at work sometimes. I go into a room and forget why I'm there. I had to switch to one dose in the morning (I work at night) because taking two doses a day just made me too sleepy. Truthfully, this is the best antipsychotic I've been on (I don't like antipsychotics period). At least it doesn't cause weight gain. Risperidone made me a zombie, Latuda didn't work, Abilify gave me insomnia, and Seroquel made me suicidal."

For Bipolar Disorder "This medication turned me into a zombie. I was so tired and unmotivated all the time. I decided I wanted off of this poison and had to taper so slow because I got bad withdrawals in the smallest dose changes. I even went down to 10 mg by emptying out half the capsule. When I went to zero, I ended up in the emergency room with severe dehydration from the vomiting and diarrhea caused by the withdrawals, and I was unable to care for myself or my daughter for about two weeks. I thought my body was giving up its will to live. I have quit dilaudid cold turkey with minimal discomfort, so it's not like I can't handle discomfort, but quitting Geodon was terrible, and from now on I will be doing more research on each medication I put in my body."

For Schizophrenia "I've been on Geodon for probably about a year, and I like it. It works, I don't really hear voices. From time to time, like once a week, I'd hear like half a min of voices compared to 24 hrs of my day before taking Geodon. My dose is always changing, but as of now, I'm on 20 in the morning and 80 at night. I get muscle tension and jaw locking. Sometimes it will look like I'm flipping people off, or I'd hide my thumb and squeeze. I'm taking Benadryl for that, which helps, I'm taking 50 mg for morning and night. I had tingling in my head, feeling like I could faint, but that only lasted a month or so. Overall, it's a good medication, I'm happy as long as I don't hear angels and demons!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I have a 10-year-old daughter (bipolar, anxiety, and ADHD) who has been taking Geodon for about two months, and it's been working great! I think the most important thing to remember is to go slow: 20 mg for a couple of weeks, then 40 mg for a couple of weeks, and so on and so forth. It does make you tired at first, but it wears off after a while. My daughter was first on Risperdal for a couple of years starting at age 6, but it stopped working well, and she was gaining a lot of weight. Then we eased her into Abilify, and she was on it for 2 years and still was gaining too much weight. I don't think the Abilify ever worked that effectively, and she was just getting out of control."

For Bipolar Disorder "Mania, and especially mixed mania, are the problem. Geodon is my solution. I took myself off because of mouth moves. Bad move? Almost divorced. I can tell when I am manic because I have ideas and insights. Example: the graph of user ratings for Geodon treatment of bipolar is itself bipolar. I was doing 3x80mg when the moves started. Back to 1x80 now. Will report back. P.S. great site. I've been here many times, but my first post. Thought I should contribute."

For Bipolar Disorder "All I can say is that for the first time in my life, I feel like I can take care of myself. I owe this completely to this drug. No more manic episodes. Everything has sort of evened out for me. It's wonderful, and I cannot be without it and will freak out if I ever have to! Oh, and I'm on 20 mg twice a day. So far, no side effects other than a small twitch in my face. That sort of thing can easily be counteracted with additional medicines, though. It is very expensive, but it is completely worth it."

For Bipolar Disorder "After horrible experiences with a multitude of different antidepressants, the realization came upon me that I was possibly bipolar due to a prolonged episode of what I thought could be mania. Well, my psychiatrist put me on Geodon (40 mg in the evening). So far, it's been 2 months and I have had not one depressive or manic episode during this time. The first 2 or 3 days of taking the drug were awful, I had terrible brain fog and just felt totally whacked out, but that feeling disappeared after just a few days, so I can't complain too much. I'm starting to take an additional 20 mg in the morning to hopefully curb some of my anxiety, so we'll see how that goes. As far as psych meds go, this one has reigned far superior so far!"

For Bipolar Disorder "When I got on this, I was self-diagnosed with depression and tried about a dozen antidepressants without getting better. My gyno, who was prescribing, said I had to see a psychiatrist because he was scared he'd 'scramble my brain.' I was diagnosed with atypical bipolar and put on Geodon and Lamictal. The Lamictal did nothing, but in 3 days I went from work or just being in bed the rest of the time, gorging on food and not wanting to be bothered, to feeling much, much better. I started on 30 mg and am now on 80, about 10 years later. I highly recommend this for bipolar. I've lately started getting into bipolar depression again, though not like it used to be, and am trying a medicine with great reviews that I'd never heard of called Symbyax."

For Bipolar Disorder "At first, taking Geodon, it was great, felt alive for the first time in so, so many years, it was for my major depression disorder. Then, after three weeks of taking it, it stopped working. Now increasing to 40 mg daily. I’m hoping that works, but kinda nervous it’s not going to. Just my experience for taking it for 3 going on 4 weeks. The side effects I had were nausea, lack of appetite, shaking, and some vision issues. Side effects seem to be subsiding."

For Bipolar Disorder "Best med I've been on for my bipolar. I also take buspirone and trazodone for sleep. I've been bipolar since 21, I think I have taken every drug there is for this illness. And since my doctor has put me on these drugs, I'm finally stable for once in my life."

For Bipolar Disorder "Geodon has worked great for my bipolar. I do not struggle with mania symptoms anymore. My thoughts are more clear and feel more stable than I ever have. I take it at night to avoid the heavy fatigue that occurred when I took it during the day. I had some weight gain, but it is worth the quality of life I now have."

"My husband had dementia and was sent to a doctor's behavioral hospital for evaluation only. After a few days, he was put on Geodon without permission. He started having seizures. Not only did he get a drug that says not for dementia and may cause death, but they also overdosed him. He did not have any other health issues, he was not bipolar or schizophrenic. He went there walking, talking, had a gentle disposition. He left in an ambulance and passed away a few days later. His death was written as pneumonia. Your warning says this may happen with dementia (and they did nothing wrong). Right!!!!!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I started taking Geodon last week. It has pulled me out of a terrible depression I was under for over a year! I was taking Latuda before Geodon, and it caused me to have panic attacks and bad thoughts. So far, it has been a miracle medicine! God has answered my prayers! Now I just pray it doesn't cause weight gain."

For Bipolar Disorder "Because of this drug, I have the most stability I've ever had in my 23 years with bipolar. I also take lithium, Lamictal, and Pristiq. Lithium is a great stabilizer also, but Geodon is the cornerstone of my treatment. I suffered for 12 years before Geodon. I was an ultra-rapid cycler. I had a lot of people make fun of me during that time. Now I'm married, and I have achieved so much. One word of caution: do not drink Diet Mountain Dew or any drinks or food with a flame retardant in it (brominated vegetable oil, for example). These will cause an onset of tardive dyskinesia."

For Bipolar Disorder "Geodon has been a lifesaver. It took a while to get the right dose and know when to take it (AM versus PM), but I am doing great now. I take it in the evening and still have morning grogginess after several months. My doctor prescribed Provigil, which really helps (although costly). I take the Geodon in conjunction with Lamictal. I have less agitation and find (at least my family finds) that I am much less hostile than before. Do be careful in the heat, as I got very sick from overheating, and follow instructions and do not drink alcohol. One piña colada felt like a whole case of beer."

For Bipolar Disorder "This drug is great. I have been more stable than ever since I started taking it. I have to take it at night though because it makes me super sleepy if I take it during the day. I can hardly sleep and get manic if I don't take it for a while. I don't get any side effects either. I was taking two 80 mg pills at night, but now I only take two 60 mg pills. I lost weight while on this medication. Sleepiness is horrible if I take it during the day. I, at one point, was taking 80 mg twice per day, but I almost got fired! I would fall asleep at work. It was uncontrollable sleepiness. No matter what I did to stay awake, I couldn't. Two 80 mg at night made me sleep until real late, so that's why I take two 60 mg pills at night. Haven't been manic."

For Schizophrenia "I am only on day 3. I have to say I like it. I do not hear or see voices or people. I have a wild thought process that can imagine anything and make it real in my own mind. That is under control almost completely, which is AMAZING! Living in my head without this medicine was a nightmare. 60 mg before bed did not work for me. I couldn't sleep. So, I now take it in the morning. I also have A.D.D. (no medication for A.D.D. though). Just the Geodon and Topamax. It works perfect for me. Weight gain was a BIG problem on the other medicine they tried, so far I think I have lost, I know I have not gained, which is very important to me. I had gained 14 pounds in 3 weeks on the other medication (that's a lot of weight really fast). No jaw issues or shaking."
