"I have been taking Valsartan for a long time and not had any side effects, but recently my supply has tasted and smelled of cellulose. The tablets are manufactured in Hungary. I've asked the chemist to give me a supply from a different manufacturer, but they say they get what they are given from their supplier. Does anyone have any suggestions."

Valsartan "Works better than Cozaar or Losartan at keeping my systolic blood pressure more even or stable throughout the day and in normal range. Losartan causes erratic pressures daily, failing to lower systolic readings for me."

"Been on Diovan for 9 years. Started with ringing in my ears and now hearing loss - had to get hearing aids. Also, in the last year, had increases in blood pressure, followed by controlled 'normal' pressure readings. My blood sugar now is classified as type II, so several of the problems with this medicine are my problems. Am going to ask my doctor to change. If you get ringing in your ears when taking this, don't delay, get off it!"

Valsartan "Diovan HCT 160 12.5mg. I've been using Diovan since 2009 with no problems until about 3 years ago. I began having severe vertigo with ear ringing and feeling like I'm about to lose it. My eyes feel like things are moving, and my voice is hoarse while talking. Two weeks ago, I stopped taking it and felt so much better, but my blood pressure went up to 150/76, and it scared me. So, I went back to taking them, and the symptoms came back. I have to figure out what to do."

"Taking Valsartan for about a year now. 160 mg twice a day. BP numbers are up and down. The worst side effect for me is the weight gain. I exercise and lift weights 6 days a week. I also don't drink or use drugs. I am eating a plant-based diet, yet still managed to gain 10 pounds!!! No thank you..."

"I have been on Valsartan 160mg 1x a day for 1 year. Prior to that, I was on the same med but 80mg. Again, for 1 year (did not lower BP on 80mg). Also, I take Metoprolol 50mg 1x a day for high BP, which I have been taking for several years to substitute for Lisinopril because of that dreadful cough. Ever since my doc upped my dose to 160mg, what I noticed is approx. 1 1/2 hours after I take it, my energy levels drop for the rest of the day to a very sluggish feeling and duh brain. I must admit I toyed with this---by taking it 1 day then not the next. Let me tell you, on days I did not take it, I felt my normal self. Even while taking the Metoprolol - great energy when NOT adding Valsartan 160mg. Additionally, it is not making a big enough dent in dropping my numbers--- doc suggested a switch from Valsartan to another med. But keeping Metoprolol as part of my BP cocktail. If this does not work, I believe I will have to switch back to Lisinopril and deal with the cough."

"While this medication is working for my high blood pressure, it is not without side effects. The one I am experiencing is severe nasal congestion 24/7. I will be going back to my doctor to see what else is available."

"Been on Valsartan 80 mg for about a month. Blood pressure still in hypertensive range (145/93 or so). Gave me stiff leg joints at first, especially after exercise - but seems to be improving. Was hoping to improve ED issues I had on Bisoprolol - but Valsartan has made it worse! Also, I have a rather high pulse on it - typically in the high 80s to 90s, which is concerning me. Bisoprolol gave me a pulse in the 60s and 70s. Will continue but hope for ED and high pulse side effects to improve soon."

"Believe it or not, I was taking perindopril for high blood pressure and began suffering from erectile dysfunction. I told my doctor, and he switched me to valsartan. Within a week, everything changed. I am waking up with erections akin to Viagra use - rock hard. I am 59 years old and thought all was lost regarding sex. My libido is higher as well. It has to be due to valsartan, as it is the only thing that was changed since the ED problems."

"I never had high B/P until a year ago. I take generic Valsartan/HCTZ - Diovan - 160 mg/25 mg. I have severe weakness, muscle and joint pain, knees are bad. Diovan does take care of my B/P, edema too. I have recently been put on Torsemide 20 mg. I was told I was in heart failure, whoa!! I am a mess! Ativan helps, but because of people who abuse, people like those who need this controlled med suffer. My Dr. gives me not enough, but 1 mg per day, so I suffer. I hope I can take Valsartan. I am overweight and too weak to exercise."

Valsartan "Just changed from Enalapril to Valsartan due to a cough, and then to Diovan due to a weird sensation that's like tripping. I can only describe it as almost an out-of-body experience. It just happens randomly but only lasts for a few minutes. Diovan is less spacey. I haven't seen anyone else report this, so I guess they are LSD flashbacks from a misspent youth. Blood pressure is very good, though."

"I came to my doctor with a sudden onset of 184/111 HBP. I told her that as soon as I noticed it, I dropped soda and added more bananas and oats to my diet. She prescribed Valsartan, which apparently holds onto potassium - so add that to my bananas and potatoes in an effort to eat better. My arms have been numb for weeks, and I was all weepy for the last week - I finally looked up side effects of Valsartan, and I am not going to take it anymore. Too much potassium messes with your nerves. I need my arms."

"My doctor put me on 80 mg of valsartan (Diovan). Today is going on day 3 of this medicine. I'm a 31-year-old female. The only side effect I get from this medicine is a lightheaded and fuzzy feeling in my head. It's not too bad, however, it does make driving a car or exercising very limited. It has lowered my blood pressure to 122/88, which is better than 150/80. I take the medicine at night so I can sleep through some of the effects but noticed I still have them when I wake up. Hopefully, my body can adjust to this side effect."

"I started on 80 mg in Oct. Two weeks after taking, my thumb went numb. We needed to increase the dose to 160 mg once a day to help control my BP. About two weeks later, my left arm went numb. I had a stress test and a brain MRI. Stress test fine and brain scan fine. I continue to have headaches and now going to a chiropractor for headaches and neck stiffness. He thinks I may have a pinched nerve. I feel like this drug has caused my arm and leg numbness and headaches. I’m also shedding a lot of hair. I began feeling like crap after I started taking this."

Valsartan "I started using Diovan 160/25 HCT in 2003 and the last two years 320/25 HCT. I have been using this product for the last 22 years. For me, it is an excellent product. But the big problem is the price. It is too expensive. My co-pay is $166.92 every month for 30 pills."
