For Urinary Tract Infection "Was given a 3 day course of Trimethoprim 200mg twice a day. By day three although UTI pain had gone I started to feel so ill. Lethargic, achy, itchy, and nauseous and by day 5 I felt so nauseous I struggled to eat much at all. Now nearly a month later I still feel rough, have a very uncomfortable stomach and bowel and feel constantly nauseous, just generally unwell. I think this antibiotic has played havoc with my system and it is going to take a while for my body to fully recover. I won’t be having it again, I will ask for something different."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Trimethoprim for urinary tract infection and found that I started spotting and had no clue why this was happening . I felt alarmed and tried to find out the reason but later after I got the urine test reports , I found that I did not have any infection and was taking this antibiotics for no reason so I was asked to discontinue the antibiotic . When I stopped the medicine , the spotting stopped. I wanted to share this information as there is no mention of this side effect for this medicine anywhere."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Was prescribed a 7-day course (think curse would be a better word) for a suspected UTI. Day 3 started feeling a bit weird/off-kilter. Very anxious, tired, loss of appetite, bloating, chronic abdomen pain, but persevered as instructed by GP. Day 5, in bits !! Not sleeping, aching, anxiety borderline manic. By day 6 I honestly thought I was dying and was about to go to A&E. Finished the course but will NEVER use it again. Stay away from it, ask your GP for an alternative."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed trimethoprim by GP, I was a little confused as I was 25 week pregnant at the time. The drug can still be prescribed but during testing was observed to cause some problems????? Needless to say, the drug didn't work. I as usual ended up with thrush from the tablets and when I had a check up a week later I still have the infection. Doctor has prescribed Nitrofurantoin. These pose lesser risk to my baby, but are a lower dose. fingers crossed these will work. I live in the uk"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had an uncomplicated UTI and was prescribed a 6 day course of TMP. After the first tablet I developed intense nausea, chills and overwhelming fatigue. I have now taken 3 tablets and have not eaten in three days. Even the sight of food makes me sick. I pretty much lay on my electric blanket with alternating chills and sweating. I am terminating usage and will never accept this drug again. I think that it did knock out the UTI."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed a 3 day course of Alprim, one per night for a urinary tract infection. After taking the first tablet a red blotchy rash appeared on my lower legs, extremely itchy. Next day I noticed blisters had appeared in the rash. I also was extremely tired, and had a burning feeling in my stomach, but as I only had one tablet to go to finish the course I continued to take it as I did not want the urinary tract infection to return. 2 days after completing the course the blistered rash is still with me although the itching has ceased. The UTI has gone, but I will never take this again as I have really suffered, this must be an allergic reaction."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This drug worked very well for me and cleared up my UTI in a matter of 48hrs, although I was on a 7 day course of 2x200mg/daily. Unfortunately once the tablets finished the infection returned so needed a 2nd course. I'm currently taking a low dose at evening to keep the infection at bay while the specialists do some tests. I normally get every side effect going and dread taking new medication in any form especially after an horrific experience with Ciorofloxacin but the only side effect I experienced with this was itchy ankles and feet on day two but that didn't last into third day so I would class this as a minor side effect and insignificant. Good luck."

For Bladder Infection "bladder infection. Almost an hour later I had severe dizziness, hot flashes, extreme anxiety and felt like my blood pressure had dropped drastically. next 3 days I had a horrible headache, nausea, the worst fatigue ever, completely no appetite and severe anxiety. kidneys were very painful, hard to breathe without exacerbating the pain. 4th night I experienced all that and insomnia/strange random thoughts at night that seemed to have a mind of their own Day5 I feel much more like myself but still delicate. I notified my dr and NHs24 about my symptoms and they said to keep taking it! Glad I did because I am feeling much better now. look up "bacteria die-off symptoms" this maybe what we have been experiencing. Harmful endotoxins from the dead bacteria in our systems due to antibiotics. I've read the worse you feel during die-off, the more you needed it. Take a good probiotic at night to ease symptoms."

For Bladder Infection "I had severe cramp from the neck downwards. I couldn't sit, stand or lie down . It was so severe. I stopped taking it and went to the Doctor. It started easing off but was still there after a day . The Doctor said it wasn't the Alprim and I should continue. So I restarted the medication and it cranked up again in all its severity. It was awful so I stopped and the cramp went away."

For Bladder Infection "Due to allergies trimethoprim is the best choice for a bladder infection for me. Used once before about 4 years ago after infection from catheter after surgery. Works fine for me and I have not had the side effects some experience. So in my case a very good choice."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This is my third time on trimethoprim (Alprim) for a UTI and it has worked every time, but UTI continues to slowly come back so got told next time I will be put on a low dose of this for 3 months! Never had any noticeable side effects. Recommend to everyone to please take with a good probiotic to minimise side effects, rebuild good gut bacteria and prevent thrush."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed a course of 3 Alprim tablets for a UTI and immediately noticed a few ulcers in my mouth half an hour after the first pill. I thought it was just the antibiotic making my immune system low and the next day had my next tablet. That’s when I started feeling much sicker and my mouth blisters much worse. I also experienced numbness in my left hand. I decided not to finish the course and so wish I had of stuck to my resolve but family said I should finish the course or the UTI would come back. About 15 minutes after the 3rd pill my mouth was on fire. My tongue, lips, gums all erupted into ulcers and I couldn’t eat or drink or sleep for the pain. My blood pressure is through the roof and I have terrible headaches. The doctor said I must have an allergy. Hand is still numb too. Never again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "At first I took a couple of Amoxcillin and my symptoms had nearly gone by the time I had my appointment. My doc for some reason prescribed me this. Took my first dose last night for UTI. Got up and nearly fell into the wall I was so dizzy. Couldn’t sleep at all last night until about 10 hours after taking the pill. Experienced anxiety, however I do suffer from anxiety but it’s medicated and generally ok. Still a little dizzy this morning and my UTI symptoms have started to come back :( Going back to get more amoxicillin!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was put on Trimethoprim 200 mg tablets twice a day. After the 1st day I did get a racing heart but that stopped after the 2nd day but after that I experience feeling really really low, depressed, not wanting to leave the house and when I did I felt very shaky and nervous. I have never felt like this before in my life and I have never experienced this after taking any other antibiotic. I told the pharmacist about the symptoms/side effects and she told me to notify my doctor/GP, which I did, and she said that when I complete the course (I was on day 6 of a 7 day course) that after a few days I should feel better. She said she won't prescibe this particular antibiotic to me in the future."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed this medication, has I had sepsis about 4 weeks ago. They think it's due to, infected gall bladder which the duct is block with stone/s. I can't take any of the -cillin family of antibiotics, so was prescribed other antibiotic's 2 weeks ago. They didn't work, so prescribed these. The first day I was fine, second day started feeling yuck and not wanting to go out. The second night ruffled with anxious, horrible feelings which I don't normally have. Third day realised it was these tablets when looked online and read the reviews. I don't think these these should be prescribed at all. I'd rather have sepsis again than feel how I did in this medication. Avoid."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Dreadful! These were so bad my kidneys and bladder. Couldn’t urinate, weakness, dripping with sweat, couldn’t think or speak, trembling and breathless. I felt like I’d been thumped in the kidneys. I believe this is due to the fact that they increase potassium levels !"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was hospitalised on day 6 of a course of Trimethoprim (Triprim) with a full body rash which then turned into hives, prescribed Prednisone which caused my blood sugars to rise considerably being a Type 1 diabetic. I spent a day in hospital, was to go home that night until a GP noticed that I was at risk of renal failure. That night I stayed in hospital and all of the next day. Previously, years ago, I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic Bactrim and was told I was allergic to Sulphur. The GP knew this when prescribing Trimethoprim and I have been assured that Trimethoprim does not contain Sulphur. In my lay opinion, after the trauma I have been through I believe that the T.G.A. (who we are all supposed to trust) should take this drug "off the market" so that other human beings will not have to experience to horrors inflicted upon us. It didn't help, it didn't work, caused immeasurable damage, the dosage was 300mg once per day for 7 days."
